The judgement could spell the closures of scores of Catholic-run nursing and care homes across Belgium because the Church has stated explicitly that it will not permit euthanasia "under any circumstance".

Everyone is happy. The church gets to make a stand for its faith, and the government gets to assert its authority at all cost. And the displaced nursing home residents, well, they don't matter so much.

I've seen people who have suffered severe strokes and ALS. It's a horrible way to die.

If I get to the point where I can't even talk, or change the channel, and I have to shit in a diaper. Then fuck it, put a shotgun against my head and blow my brains out.

That said, I am sympathetic to the local healthcare workers. Nobody wants to shoot old Old Yeller. Forcing people who wanted to extend life to violate their beliefs just because the government said that's the law is all sorts of fucked up.

I'd like to Brickbat the medico-legal establishment of every country that has Right-To-Die, but not Right-To-Try, for being part of the problem of the world being too damn death-happy.

It's like how every school has to have accommodation for sub-normal kids, but the high-IQ ones get squat most of the time.
