FINAL UPDATE (1:22 a.m.): The Missouri vote is nearly complete for both parties and it's still extremely close. NBC News says Trump and Clinton are the apparent winners.

Earlier: Florida! Ohio! And … the rest. Okay: Illinois, North Carolina, and Missouri, too.

For the Republicans, though, eyes are mostly on Florida (home of Sen. Marco Rubio) and Ohio (home of Gov. John Kasich). Will either of them win their home states, or will Donald Trump triumph?

The Democrats … have votes, too. Okay, I'm possibly not being fair to Bernie Sanders. Some polls have him close to Hillary Clinton in Missouri and Illinois. He could fare well this evening. And we've had polls being wildly off this election cycle anyway.

Here is the blog post I'll be using to update readers on the outcomes of the primary votes tonight. The first polls close at 7 p.m. Eastern. This post will be updated periodically with new information. I'll post new news up at the top, and then update each state with numbers as each race is called. Poll closings noted in Eastern time.

Well, it took a year, and the timing of the indictment was... curious. It came out *right* after everyone suddenly got really worked up about the case. She of course asserted that she was totally planning to charge him the whole time, and it was just a coincidence that he was arrested moments before the rioting started. Disbelief was semi-universal.

Her office has also been just as zealous in pursuing police misconduct as you'd expect of the Cook County State's Attorney, and people finally noticed. She became so radioactive that the local party endorsed a challenger - around here an incumbent usually needs to actually be incarcerated for that to happen.

There are now three possible pledged-delegate results for the first ballot of the Republican convention:

1) Trump
2) Cruz
3) No majority

On #3, a key thing to remember is that delegates are not chosen by the candidates/campaigns, but by the local party organization in each state. So when they go unbound, they may or may not have any sympathy for the candidate they were pledged to.

I don't know why you guys are assuming this means Trump wins the nomination. Cruz is very close in Missouri and Rubio dropping out helps Cruz tremendously. If it were head to head, all the polls show Cruz annihilating Trump. 3 way is tougher, but a lot of Rubio's support is going to go to Cruz. I don't think we're going to get a result outside of a brokered convention and anything could happen there.

If Trump had swept today, it would have basically been over, but losing Ohio (which is a winner take all state so he gets nothing) and potentially losing Missouri still keeps him short of what he needs to win outright. And Cruz is going to perform better going forward because most of Rubio's support is going to shift to Cruz, based on the second preference polling I've seen.

I just don't see any way Trump wins outright with the field the way it is.

Now, it's totally conceivable that Kaiser drains off enough support to keep Trump,from winning outright, which is why the establishment wants him to stay in. But there's no way in hell that Cruz can win cleanly.
