Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders Pack New Hampshire Arena For Democratic Lovefest
Bonus: Ben and Jerry's co-founder is happy to have allies at the Cato Institute.

On the heels of last night's bruising Democratic debate,

where Hillary Clinton tried to paint Bernie Sanders as an in-over-his-head foreign policy neophyte, and in return, the Vermont senator strongly implied that the former Secretary of State was politically compromised by the millions of dollars she earned in speaking fees from Wall Street banking firms.
Held at Manchester's Verizon Wireless Arena, the organizers of the New Hampshire Democratic Party's McIntyre-Shaheen 100 Club Celebration said over 6,000 people showed up for the largest fundraiser in their history.
On the floor of the arena, where the minor league hockey Manchester Monarchs normally skate, about two hundred donors ate buffet-style dinners. In the stands, Clinton and Sanders supporters were seated on opposite sides of the arena and engaged in various competing chants, a spectacle which resembled a European soccer match.
We caught up with one of these esteemed donors, Ben & Jerry's ice cream co-founder Ben Cohen, who as denoted by his gray Bernie sweatshirt is a fervent Sanders supporter. Cohen told us about the special edition ice cream flavor called "Bernie's Yearning" he created to help raise funds for Sanders' campaign, and said he supports the senator because "he's the only guy who's going to shake up the system."
Cohen also indicated he would not support Clinton in the general election if she were

the Democratic nominee because "she's part of the system that has created this government run by the corporations and ultra-wealthy." He said the fact that Sanders refuses to hit Clinton on her key role in creating the failed state of Libya doesn't bother him at all and that it's more important for him to point out the distinctions between the two of them, rather than campaigning aggressively negative.
Upon realizing that he was speaking to a reporter from a libertarian publication, Cohen said that he "had no greater ally than the Cato Institute" in his years-long fight against Pentagon boondoggles like the pointless F-35 fighter jet. As the head of a group called Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities, Cohen even co-authored op-eds advocating for the cessation of funding for obsolete Cold War military programs with Cato Vice President for Defense and Foreign Policy Studies Christopher Preble. He said Cato "does some of the best work" on taking on the military-industrial complex and even though he disagrees with them on any number of economic issues, he says it's important to have allies wherever they lie on the political spectrum because "We need to find the areas we agree on and get that shit done."
After remarks from former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), and Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster (N.H.), Bernie Sanders took the stage to thunderous applause. Through a gravely hoarse voice befitting a candidate days away from the nation's first primary, Sanders referenced the rancor of the previous night's debate, but made an effort at being a team player by offering, "On our worst day, we are a hundred times better than the Republican candidates on their best day."
The rest of Sanders speech was of the red-meat-to-the-faithful kind ($15 minimum

wage, student debt relief, Medicare-for-all, opposing free trade agreements). His supporters were thunderously loud, but at least three-quarters of them bailed following his speech, not sticking around for the night's closing speaker, Hillary Clinton.
When Clinton took the stage around 930 p.m., she noted the significant lead Sanders holds on her in the polls for New Hampshire's primary (which drew boos from the remaining Sanders supporters), but said she refused to give up on trying to win the state. Like Sanders, she also stuck closely to her typical stump speech, but her supporters (a good number of whom were applauding while seated in the media section) lapped it up and applauded with the thunder stix passed out by the campaign.

By creating ever more of it, apparently.
Bernie's backers are the only people less credible than Trump's lunatic supporters. At least the Trumpalos are motivated by a tangible goal. It may not always be realistic or palatable, but it's discrete and articulable. Bernie on the other hand wants to upend the table and have his fringy fuckwit moron mouthbreather aspirants squabble over scraps.
Not sure I agree about "upending the table". He's all about flipping up the drop-leafs and loading the top with more shit until the table's legs shatter. I agree totally, though, about the "fringy fuckwit moron mouthbreather aspirants squabbling over scraps."
Are you saying that 'moar free shit' is not a tangible goal?
Thank you for quoting this. Except for a high aptitude for making ice cream, Ben Cohen must be an imbecile. Barack Obama was supposed "shake up the system," remember? Does Cohen have the memory of a goldfish? It takes 8 years to traverse his fishbowl and he's already forgotten that these charlatans never "shake up the system."
Multimillionaires for Socialism is full of idiots and manipulative geniuses. Which one is Cohen?
Don't you mean former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch?
Sounds like someone lives in NH.
Also, with his micro-aggressing name, why was he even invited?
Wut? Is John microaggressing against sex workers? Or somehow legitimizing sex workers?
I ask because I don't know which side of the sex work conumdrum the true feminists come down on.
I was offended by the word Governor. Nobody tells me what to do.
I thought you were offended by his last name, because it was appropriating Southern culture.
Today, more than ever, a cry goes out: Barfman! Where art thou in our hour of need? Barfmaaaaaaan!!!!
Hell, I'd settle for Sandi... I'm sure she must have visited Manchester at *some* point. (But I do miss Barfman, too. Sniff.)
Does Reason need an editor? Does anyone proofread this stuff before posting?
" ...politically compromised the millions of dollars she earned..."
"...she refused to give up on the trying to win the state."
It's a blog post, not a magazine article.
It's a pro-market publication. They outsourced editing to their readers.
The first paragraph has a long WHILE clause which ends without any primary sentence to lead into.
I think this whole election is making me slightly insane. It feels like a bad dream. If Hillary or Bernie get elected, the next Supreme Court appointments will seal the fate of the nation. They'll discover that, somehow, for 200 years, we've missed the fact that the Communist Manifesto has been inside the Constitution all along! Free stuff for everyone, forever! Including anyone who can make it across the border. However, complaining about any of it will be racist hate speech, as prohibited by the First Amendment (under the new interpretation)....
You sound like a Fox News PR expert with all of the same falsely outrageous paranoid talking points of the American conservative party that has gone off the rails with fears that the Soviet Union is still alive and well and that it's hiding beneath your pillow at night along side Ebola, ISIS, ACA death panels and Mexican rapists.
Maybe you need the Disney channel to tell you fairytales so you can sleep at night?
Falsely outrageous? Wouldn't that make them not outrageous at all?
You havent been paying attention to progressivism. They have a desire to force you to do what they want.
And the bern wants to provide free middle class welfare to people who want to mooch and be coddled their entire lives.
Bern it all down
Right on.
Their nominees will be odious lefty cretins and this country has no conservative party. Opposition will be token and ineffective and the fragile judicial stalemate will dissolve. The Court will lean more heavily to the socialist left than it has in nearly a century, and the cause of liberty will be set back generations.
Not into comic hyperbole, huh, pmahcud?
You had me at Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders pack...
Lost me at "Bernie's Yearning".
Anyone else starting to get annoyed with bernie sanders, his demagoguery and his cult followers?
I wish hed go away. The more i hear him talk the more this being authentic and genuine appears to be a load of crap.
He is a career politician that hasnt had a real job ever
The Bern has a real job as a fairy.
I... I... am speechless.
*Presses index finger to Rhywun's lips*
Just let the magic happen.
*bite*
You know I've had that finger?
In Bernie's Yearning?
Even I got woozy at that^
*shudder*
Enh, WTF.
Would, because I'm very attracted to creativity.
Your search history must be a treat.
Yup.
O. M. G.
Additionally, I am disappointed that not one of you has commented on the gif attached to my handle. It is wonderfully terrible
I was going to comment but I never click on people's handles so I thought it might be old or something. Well done.
I just thought it fit with my motif. It is very funny.
Crusty, why can't that rabbit slide back and ride pillion, like during a normal double deuce drop?
I found the spare key.
I just got the spare key reference. Well done, sailor.
Reference?
Part of me thinks we deserve him right about now. Show people the error of their ways kind of thing.
Who's this "we"?
Well, based on your handle it seems like you're an American so FEEL THE BERN DUDE.
This is why I kinda hope he wins; sometimes you just have to let the idiot stick his hand in the fire for him to realize it 'berns' (haha, that one just came to me). Just wish the idiot didn't insist on putting my hand in the fire too.
We have to destroy the country to save it.
Tao Te Bern
The Bern that can be spoken is not the eternal Bern
The policy that can be named is not the true policy
The fossil-fuel-less is the origin of Heaven on Earth
The 1% is the mother of ten thousand new programs
Thus, constantly without desire, we must not consume
Constantly with desire, we must spend
These two merge together
Mystery of mysteries
Free shit for all
And free shit be with you. Amen.
Though the risk is the proggies dont learn from their failed policies, blame capitalism and corporate greed and then double down while screaming for moar
Like reversing the frog boiling analogy. If you want to boil the frog, you put it in the water and boil it slowly. But, if you want the frog to live, maybe all yo can do is boil the water as fast as possible and hope he'll notice and jump out of the water?
One gets the impression that he gives the same stump speech to his wife every morning over bagels.
That we didn't Bern hard enough?
Yes. It's the only way we can return to some kind of sanity.
Not sure we want to go there (we'll go there). But, we'll trade up from the wreckage of Bernie to the disaster of Sean Penn (or whatever more fervent lunatic is eletorally available).
Think about what has happened since September 11, and realize that we are far some kind of sanity. The glass is half empty.
The glass is always full. It's half full of air.
Not if it's in space.
What? Are you on Elon Musk's payroll? Leave my metaphors alone.
I have lived in NYC since 1998 - I have seem my city and country change before my eyes into something barely recognizable.
"seen", even
All of the major presidential candidates are saying that they will screw you over, and make you pay for the prIvilege of screwing you over . The only one who doesn't say that is Cruz, and he sucks soooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
All of the major presidential candidates are saying that they will screw you over, and make you pay for the prIvilege of screwing you over . The only one who doesn't say that is Cruz, and he sucks soooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
Heh, like there was ever any chance I was going to vote.
Really? Did you miss Ruby Ridge and Waco?
The whole Drug War?
While I'm not saying 9/11 has helped the freedom in this country, but frankly, it's not something that affects the average person.
OTOH, the militarization of the police probably does. Unless you are a muslim (or possibly Irish), you likely aren't to ever be the focus of a terrorism probe. OTOH, literally anyone can be the target of a drug investigation. You can have a SWAT team break down your door at any second looking for drugs. They can kill your dog, or even you and your family and face no sanction or penalty. Hell, they probably won't even have to apologize.
And then look how the Democrats are using government to crush political dissent. The IRS scandal most obviously, but also those John Doe warrants attacking supporters of Scott Walker.
And guns. While terrorism is somewhat being used as an excuse to try to take them away from citizens, more often it's just a crazy person doing something
With the SJWs as their semi-organized brownshirt street fighter division.
Ruby Ridge and Waco were local concerns that had no impact nationwide as far as I can recall.
The drug war didn't get any worse because of 9/11 - it was a horror-show before then and it still is.
But the whole ramping up of the police state has gotten hugely, noticeably worse since then. Maybe that's my NYC bias or maybe not for anyone who flies or crosses the border.
I think the take away here is that the left is having a generational crisis.
and it might result in some surrrious problems when/if they lose. because recrimations will abound, and the hills will no longer have any political shelter.
I'm not sure which generational crisis you're referring to, since Bernie and primary base are about three generations apart, and each seems to be having its own generational crisis. I don't think either side is what the other side thinks it is. Bernie think he's found a crown that wants to bring us back to the good old days of FDR and the command economy, and the millennials think they've found the candidate to 'bring us into the 21st century' or something, which is pretty ironic.
I think the take away is that history is cyclical. If an Old Socialist from the 60s (or 20s) lives long enough eventually the ideological cycle will come full circle and he'll come back into style again.
"Hillary Clinton tried to paint Bernie Sanders as an in-over-his-head foreign policy neophyte, and in return, the Vermont senator strongly implied that the former Secretary of State was politically compromised by the millions of dollars she earned in speaking fees from Wall Street banking firms."
Aren't they just duking it out to see who gets top billing and who has to be Vice President?
If Hillary ends up on the undercard, that would auger well for the Republican nominee to pick Fiorina as his running mate--since Fiorina could kick Hillary's ass in a debate and not look like an insensitive male clod for doing it.
There is not a chance in hell she would settle for VP.
I dunno. Bernie won't live forever, after all. Especially not with her as VP...
She won't settle for it until she doesn't have any other choice, but once she's got no other choice? VP's a great gig.
You gotta debate a Vice Presidential candidate every four years, break ties in the Senate, and that's about it.
And you never know. Eight years is a long time to back up a 75 year old guy like St. Bernie. He could croak any minute!
Yeah, she's as cynical and calculating as any one of us.
*shudder*
A Vice President can still sell a lot of influence.
Cha-ching!
Statistically speaking, she probably would get to be president for at least a year or two if he manages to win two elections. What's the life expectancy for Bernie? 81, 82?
Sanders will never be president. The US has gone partly insane, and is heavily infested with idiotic leftist ideas, but we're not that far gone. We're not as gone as Venezuela electing Chavez. At least not yet.
There's a lot of ultra-sensitive anti-fascist radar aimed at Trump by opponents, and the operators claim their dials are showing signals. But the Trump = fascist equation has about 1/10th the evidence as Sanders = communist. Trump's never vacationed in fascist countries and praised his hosts.
Unfortunately, anti-communism is out of fashion, so few are noticing Bernie's fellow-traveling past, and the fact that he's never renounced it. Instead we get Facebook derp about how democratic socialism is something entirely different than plain-old-socialism. And it supposedly has nothing at all to do with "scientific socialism," now nearly extinct (except in North Korea, Cuba, and universities everywhere).
Sanders is an ancient radical who thinks Hillary and Obama haven't made the federal government nearly big enough. He wants to send taxes through the roof. He wants to control political speech (a.k.a. overturning Citizens United, a.k.a. banning political books). He is said to be a rather unpleasant person, and has steered political money to his family. And he's just a few steps away from looking like the Cryptkeeper. Trump, Cruz, Rubio: any of them can beat Sanders, and as much as it pains me to say it, any of them would be a better choice.
Where did you hear he was unpleasant and steered money to his family? Interesting...i can see that as he seems really angry. And the only money thing i know was his wife screwing over some university in vermont and getting a nice severance package or something
The money.
The unpleasantness.
I thought Sanders wasn't going to take money from corporations. Or is that only from corporations that don't agree with his policies?
well, that is how he's going to pay for his platform.....oh, you meant campaign contributions.
See this is what concerns me about people with no principles. It is totally ok for alll that money from the right thinking corporations and people to the right team
in-over-his-head foreign policy neophyte
As opposed to Clinton, who's replacement was John Kerry.
Inanimate Carbon Rod had other obligations.

Comrades - Feel the Bern's hand in your wallet !!
Free costs a lot - unburden your wallet for the good of all and the central committee !

There are still some honest liberals out there, I guess. It's just that you won't find them running for reelection.
Saying that he wouldn't support Hillary if she won the nomination, at least, suggests that there's something more fundamental there than just partisanship.
I can actually see Bernie and Rand working together on some things, like criminal justice reform, maybe cutting the military budget down to size some. Of course then Bernie will want to borrow trillions more for free stuff. But he has to be that through a GOP Congress. Bernie would probably be quite harmless as POTUS compared to Obama, and certainly compared to Hillary.
Hey Ben, nobody needs 23 different flavors of ice cream.
He's better be quiet about that 'no one needs x pairs of shoes' line or else he'll lose the wiminz vote.
Sometimes yo you jsut have to roll with it.

It's always nice to start mardi gras parties with a hangover.
A look into Beenie's life reveals alot. The only thing he applied himself to was Marx, Lenin, etc, and politics. He never held a real job for long at all. It was said he was a shitty carpenter. He did writing and film work. Mostly crap that promoted socialist heroes and so on.
When he was on unemployment, he advocated there be no time limit on stealing....err "benefits". So no steady job, no attempts to better his skills, until his steady "job" became that of a career politician.
So if i couldn't rely on him to build a cabinet for me, or do much of anything else, why would I employ him to run sometging far larger when he has no real world experiences, nor ever applied himself to anything? He is all about taking from others, and giving it away to people like himself, who never applied themselves, and want others to be forced to pay for their benefits and so on.
Would it make sense for him to be the CEO of a cabinetry company, or even a supervisor when he couldn't even apply himself as a worker? "Voters" (on both sides) are seriously fucked up. Ready to sell everyone else's liberty down the drain in order to promote socialism, which is ultimately theft and violence, that has failed time and time again to lift up the individuals it claims to support and fight for.

The shameless "Clinton-shilling journalists" will not be denied, but they could try to be a bit more subtle about it.
