Watch Bill Cosby Tell Tipper Gore That Writing Children's TV 'is as juicy as sex'
When Bill and Hillary Clinton, Tipper Gore, Mr. Rogers and the Cos joined at the White House to lament the state of children's TV programming
Bill Cosby, as noted below, has had better days. Here's a video clip from one of them: July 29, 1996, when the then-beloved comedian joined such luminaries as Hillary Clinton, Mr. Rogers, Jack Valenti, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and President Bill Clinton at a White House summit to, um, clean up children's television.
The whole summit is worth watching (on drugs), but here's a weird snippet beginning with Tipper Gore, who literally says to the Cos "We want more of what made us love you so much," and then ending with Cosby saying, out of nowhere and with a strange look on his face, "It's as juicy as sex." I wish I was kidding:
The Clinton administration, we must never forget, was just lousy with efforts to crack down on entertainment and communications companies in the name of The Children (here's a big yet incomplete list of such activities lovingly compiled by the administration itself in preparation for the First Lady's run at the Senate). Hillary Clinton, as she bragged in a startlingly alarmist 2005 speech, "spent more than 30 years advocating for children and worrying about the impact of media." And that was a decade ago.
As I argue in my otherwise unrelated L.A. Times op-ed this morning, thank the Constitution that such illiberal exertions—in this case the Communications Decency Act, the Child Online Protection Act, the ideas within the Family Entertainment Protection Act—were declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court on First Amendment grounds. And that the Tipper Gore fantasies about the once-vaunted V-chip somehow being able to help "direct children" also died on the vine.

Pudding Pop, anyone?
Tipper? Cos doesn't even know her!
Cos loves pudding!
Did he and Bill share any tips?
Just the tip.
You win.
"Stick to the kosher chicks and tell 'em it's parve, just like my J-e-l-l-o!"
"You don't need quaaludes to hold them down if you've got the Secret Service!"
How does mention of the V-chip not link to this?
Yep, the v-chip was forced upon the industry, worked exactly as expected to, and was used by like ten parents.
That's it, I'm burning my Cosby sweaters.
Be careful - polyester gives off toxic fumes
Will you at least keep your Gordon Gartrell shirt?
I remember that. That's funny.
Today I learned that Bill Nye has always been an asshole.
Phew! I though it was contagious.
And that the Tipper Gore fantasies about the once-vaunted V-chip
I assume that has something to do with a Vagina-chip and I just don't even wanna know.
Best song about Tipper Gore. Important to remind Gore admirers that he has a record of imbecility that they've conveniently forgotten.
I can't tell you how glad I am that he's the face of climate change. Imagine if it was somebody competent and charismatic.
^This. Plus, his high "carbon footprint" makes him easy to discredit.
No, it was a parental control chip. The content rating was encoded into the broadcast and if you tried to watch content above the level set by whoever setup the TV then the content was blocked. As stated above, this was forced on the industry, worked perfectly, but parents were too damn stupid or lazy to use the thing.
Can't watch the vid at the moment, hope it's the Mojo Nixon rant against Tipper.
No, but thanks for mentioning because it led me to this side-splitting exchange with someone I'd forgotten all about, Jean Dixon:
(Jean Dixon): We're talking about a segment of music that is promoting illegal acts to our young people. ...we're talking about lyrics that promote bestiality, sex with animals, and necrophilia, that's sex with the dead...
(incredulous host): Do you have any evidence that any teenager has ever listened to these albums and gone out and practiced sex with an animal or sex with a dead person?
(Jean Dixon): Do you have any evidence that they haven't?
Speaking of juicy, a Texas teacher was arrested for bonking students in a ministry program. Yowza. I mean, YOWZA.
Hmmphgraaaaa
That deserves more South Park.
NICE
She had me until I saw the inner upper arm tattoo. *shiver*
I saw a guy the other day with an honest to god bar code tattoo. WTF?
I might be mistaken as to the girl in the second photo being Ms. Teacher. I think it might be a case of mistaken identity. But the mugshot is definitely her.
Early adopter. Barcodes will be mandatory in 2018 just like back up cameras in cars. Read Your Bible
Would be interesting to know what it decoded to. You can get barcode reader apps for cell phones, they use the camera and work pretty well. I used it with my movie database app so I didn't buy duplicate DVDs when hitting the sales. Also works well with the shopping apps - scan that bottle of mustard before pitching it and it ends up in your shopping list.
DVDs? 2006 called. It wants its media back. And also wants to know what a shopping app is.
Laugh all you want. When the zombie apocalypse hits, I'll still be able to watch movies by candlelight while all you losers try to stream netflix over two cans and a piece of string!
OK, I admit it. I am one of those cops.
Nice.
I wish I were the underage boy gettin' with the blonde teacher.
Hawt but so sad on the snitching. WTF is wrong with highschoolers these days. We call them "kids" but do they seriously want to be treated as kids? I mean according to the law, she's a child rapist.
She started fucking another student and the first one snitched. I still think we should use the second student's Luckiest Boy in America trophy to smack the first student upside the head.
Second student: "I did Ms. Wey down in Affffrica. Gonna take some time to do the teachers that I never had."
Oh my god.
As soon as that teletubbie held a purse I knew we were doomed as a nation. Years later, the gay cabal forced Kim Davis into prison. That slippery slope is real, and it all started with children's television.
Teletubbies were a BBC show. Gay cabal...riiiight. Davis was never in prison as a result of the marriage licensing kerfuffle; she was briefly in jail. Also, she was denying licenses to all people, not just those icky gays; IOW, she was NOT DOING HER FUCKING JOB.
Shorter: Fuck off.
*headsmack*
You see that you're responding to Crusty and not John, right?
whoosh. whoosh.
Tonio, as someone who totally digs you, you totally whiffed this one.
It wasn't even that well-done, or funny (it was slightly funny).
Tonio's just touchy because he's part of the gay cabal that forced Kim Davis into prison.
When are the unfashionable finally going to get a fair shake in society?!
Someone reversed the polarity on his sarcasm detector.
Oh, a sarcasm detector? That's a *real* useful invention.
When legislators would have trouble passing laws or when there are pressing cultural issues, they always resort to congressional hearings to compel the private sector to "voluntarily" comply with their demands.
I was highly skeptical of the accusations against Cosby for a long time. Now, not so much. I am not entirely sold though. The proggies lost their minds too much over his stance on race relations and his non-left leaning tendencies and they are just the kinds of people to cook up some shit like this.
Still, it looks pretty bad for him at this point.
It's difficult to imagine a scenario where a whole bunch of women who stand to gain just about nothing subject themselves to the media circus, years later, where they don't feel like they were seriously wronged by dude.
One? Ok.. Two? Ok... Five? Ok..
Forty? Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh.. .... ......... ...... ............
(That said, he is innocent until proven guilty, blah blah blah...)
You didn't factor in just how low the credibility of the people who hate Cosby politically is.
Still...I agree with "One? Ok.. Two? Ok... Five? Ok..
Forty? Yeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhhh.. .... ......... ...... ............"
Another factor - You can't get away with this kind of shit for so long with so many people and be part of the hollywood crowd without others finding out, rumors going around, etc.
Where are those people?
I do wonder about that. How did it not "get around" in 40+ years? He was that machiavellian/intimidating/whatever?
I had heard rumors of it over decade ago, and there was a scene several years ago where it was implied that Cosby had raped a character's aunt. Supposedly, some folks over at NBC were aware of what was happening and helped cover it up.
I now know that Hillary's characteristic headbob dates back, at least, to her husband's admiinistration.
We remember it well. Especially the Clinton administration negotiating with TV writers at the time to insert anti-drug messages and what-not. Goebbels would have been jealous.
