9-Year-old Boy Who Passed Love Notes to Girls Threatened with Sexual Harassment Charges
School safety paranoia is out of control.

A fourth-grader from Hillsborough, Florida, was warned not to pass any more love notes to his female classmates—and will be charged with sexual harassment if he persists.
That's right: It's not merely inappropriate for a nine-year-old boy to write such sexually-charged messages as "her eyes sparkled like diamonds," but actually a criminal offense, according to the principal of an unnamed school.
This mom says her son passed a very sweet note to his crush.
"How she wears the same uniform and how her eyes sparkled like diamonds," his mother said.
But soon, she says other students started teasing her son about wanting to see the little girl naked.
"That's when the principal proceeded to tell me that it wasn't appropriate that he was writing the note and that if he writes another note, they are going to file sexual harassment charges on my 9-year-old," the mom said.
Hillsborough school district said the boy wrote more than one note and that the notes were unwanted, so that borders on harassment.
Students shouldn't be passing amorous notes during class; they are a distraction. And it's perfectly appropriate to tell the boy not to bother his female classmates—particularly if the messages are unwelcome. Little boys should learn to respect girls' boundaries (and vice versa).
But at no point was it necessary to threaten the boy with sexual harassment charges. Actually levelling them would have been a flagrant abuse of his rights. Kids need to be allowed to screw up and learn from their mistakes—particularly when their mistakes are as innocuous and consequence-free as they were in this case. And yet schools seem possessed by a pernicious drive to involve the police in trivial disciplinary that are better left to teachers, parents, or administrators themselves.
Mild-mannered love notes sent by nine-year-olds do not constitute sexual harassment, and the principal who thought otherwise needs his safety-paranoia meter recalibrated.

I'm thinking having a couple of cops taze him 20 times in 30 minutes (or until he chokes to death on his own vomit) sounds about right. The little monster.

Well, I guess we now know who didn't get any dates wif da cheerleaders in high school - sorry about your luck, loverboy.
Are you kidding? Have you seen Robby's hair? HE was the one getting the distracting, unwanted love notes all the time.
From the football players.
My point stands
"Students shouldn't be passing amorous notes during class; they are a distraction"
So they're not ok?
zing!!!

No, that principal needs to be fired, and should never be in a position of authority over children again.
"That's not in my contract."

I would argue that by the logic that children of that age lack the knowledge and understanding to consent to sex they also lack the knowledge and understanding to sexually harass another child. They do not understand what they are doing in a meaningful enough way to satisfy Mean Res requirements for sexual harassment. Maybe you could argue regular harassment, but even there you would have to prove that the child has been taught that what they were doing is wrong (at that age they could not be reasonably expected to have deduced it on their own).
No one cares about your "facts" and "logic" and "principles, Illocust. We have Feelz, and Power, and Zero-Tolerance Policies!

If they charge him as an adult, he'll learn real fast.

Say, can you that again?

You can really say that again, really.

CB, it only works if you double-post.
Mine double-posted when I spilled my Everclear on my mouse (stupid DTs). Dunno what happened to Almanian.
Me? I'm just a dick.
duh!
"I would argue that by the logic that children of that age lack the knowledge and understanding to consent to sex they also lack the knowledge and understanding to sexually harass another child."
Interesting. That mirrors the 'two people under the influence of alcohol having sex' matter. // Not to be mean, it's mens rea.

Fuck, Rico, really? Boundaries? Here is an idea for any parent, or student, or silly blog writer who thinks that there should be "boundaries" about note passing. TELL THEM NOT TO READ THE FUCKING NOTE!
Giving these mini Maos the benefit of the doubt will leave us with college students who are like little babies. Opps, to late!
Wow, I really need to get into a Safe Space? right now. Sorry...
I'm going to start a chain of safe spaces called Panic Wombs. $10 a minute to be coddled and told you're special and nothing will be allowed to hurt you.
Your branding is exquisite - and I would be interested in subscribing to any newsletters customer-outreach marketing you may publish
LOVE WILL FIND A WAY!
Love will keep us together
Well, not us. Sorry man, I just don't think of you that way.
*runs away crying*
So nine year olds are being charged with sexual harassment, and 19 year olds need adults to choose their Halloween costumes for them...
Good fucking grief, if it were like this when I was in elementary school, half the fucking class would have been in prison.
I truly fucking hate these people, I mean that. It's not that I don't like them, it's that I hate them. I'm not part of the same species as these imbeciles and I don't even want to live in the same galaxy with them.
"How she wears the same uniform and how her eyes sparkled like diamonds," his mother said.
If anything the kid should be disciplined for leaning on cliches. That is no way to impress the ladies. That's why Gore Vidal never found a wife.
Um...
That is no way to impress the ladies.
So wrong. The ladies love hackneyed cliches. See Fifty Shades of Grey and Twilight. Now if you want to attract a better class of broad...
When you put it that way, the kid might be onto something. Why go to the trouble of being original when you can snag a basic bitch with threadbare platitudes?
Which is the class better than ladies, dames?
"Now if you want to attract a better class of broad..."
you call an escort.
Sounds like he's working his PUA game. A little negging on her clothes, and a compliment. He's a playa!
"My other girlfriend thinks you are cute."
And yet schools seem possessed by a pernicious drive to involve the police in trivial disciplinary that are better left to teachers, parents, or administrators themselves.
That's because each of the parties mentioned that could deal with this are such pants shitting cowards that they can't. They'd rather call the goon squad in and watch some fat slob 300 lb cop slam this little 9 year old around.
I hate people.
Kids need to be allowed to screw up and learn from their mistakes
No. Children need to be violently pushed up against a wall, frisked, handcuffed, tased and made to understand the police most be respected. Little pervert.
Don't summon the Tulpa.
This is just fucking bizarre. Passing notes in class may be a distraction that should not be allowed. The content of the notes (unless it is truly threatening or harassing) is irrelevant. And it seems like these were perfectly appropriate notes for 9 year old crushes.
I guess if expressing unwelcome romantic messages to people you are interested in is harassment, we are going to have to go back to arranged marriages for everyone. I'm not sure how else you can meet and start relationships with people.
The Federal Department of Marriage Arrangement? Yep, it will need to be a cabinet-level post.
"Well, we haven't filled our gay marriage quota yet. I guess Zeb is going to marry the Sandwich. "
I guess this means they think that George Strait is a rape-enabler, because of his song "Check Yes Or No".
Now you're starting to see the violence patriarchy inherent in the system!
1) Notes during class are a distraction. Agreed.
2) If told by recipients thank you, but no thank you, he should learn the lesson and stop. Agreed.
3) Guilty of a CRIME that involved State Force and the development of a record. Not a chance in living hell.
One only has to connect the dots between the shit we've seen on campuses the last few weeks and the dreck administrative talent running the average grade school. We are in full economic and cultural fascism at this point.
There's a glimpse of the note on the video at 49 second mark. I think the boy wrote 'I like your hair because it's sloppy'. Perhaps this the basis for the threat to charge him with harassment.
Wow! Only 9 and he's mastered the art of negging!
In that case, lock him in jail and throw out the key.
Hey, that 9-year-old girl probably spent 20 minutes in the morning getting the perfect JGF hairstyle.
Why, that little heterosexual pervert
The kid's real sin is passing a note to the popular girl when he's probably a nerd. Stick to your own kind, geek, and no one will be pressing charges.
/mean girl
How... uh, nice of the teachers to help mate-guarding.
If he had been a Transgender 6yr-old, he could have had his Xer teacher & administrators sued, fired, raked over the coals..... which is why all my kids are cross-dressing until they're 13, at least.
And used the girl's bathroom.
Good lord, that whole thing is fucked up. I just don't get it at all.
It's not to "get" it is to destroy
I remember in 3-5th grade, that's when girls are still strange members of an alien tribe that have the dread cooties and you surely wouldn't dream of actually touching one, but during that time you also couldn't help notice that there was something interestingly... pleasingly different about that. You wouldn't care admit that to your friends. Anyway, we had Valentines day and we passed out our valentines to all of our classmates. There was always lots of giggling and teasing going on. These days the swat team probably would have came down and tossed flash grenades in the room.
Kids these days sent to public schools have about 0% chance of ever experiencing all the wonders of childhood that I experienced, without accruing a long criminal record. I truly feel sorry for them.
Old Man With Candy, I am totally telling Hyperion that you highjacked his handle.
I'm getting tired of typing now, so I hope he steps it up.
I agree with what's been said here but there's more to consider. We have turned into the land of the bully and the home of the coward. These principals and teachers are afraid of the avalanche of toxic bullying that will fall on them if they make the slightest decision that might upset someone, so they pass the buck. Take a look at the fate of a lot of whistleblowers for edification.
But I found out some years ago taking an elective library science course that the real lions of free speech are librarians! I haven't checked lately but I'm hoping it's still true.
Yeah, I'd like to know more about, too.
As a former library employee worked at a few different libraries, I concur with your statement. Librarians are an odd breed - they seem to adore quiet, rules, order, and don't like people actually using the library, checking out books, or asking questions. They love rules with a passion that would make a fascist or Party Member proud. But if anyone dares tread on free speech or tries to prohibit what goes on their shelves, they go full Hulk.
If thats harrasment then Trump should be jail
The thing about Trump is that he won't take any bullying. I like watching the fireworks but that's a long way from being qualified to be president.
And everything these bully's do enhance Trump's chances.
FTFY
Does anyone else find Robby's style a little tiresome?
He introduces an outrageous example of SJ/PC overreach. In this case, the application of sexual harassment laws to a nine year old boy.
Then he always has a caveat paragraph in the middle of the article that basically says that he doesn't agree with any transgressions against the victim class, and that the concerns of the victim class are very real, so we shouldn't (in this case sexually harassment/rape victims, in others minorities, in others transgender, etc.) take his article as a suggestion that he doesn't think that the SJ/PC crowd has very legitimate concerns. It's just that maybe they went a little too far this time.
Robby: stop taking these people (the SJ/PC mob) seriously and that their arguments deserve real consideration. They are either irrational or seeking control. Either way, your pandering to their "complaints" only encourages them, and brings about the very types situations that your frequently write about. Write honestly about these jerks, please, or find a new specialty. Thanks!
I wonder what sort of weight is squeezing out that outcome?
The highest virtue in the land at the present time is victimhood.
Robespierre said, "Terror is the natural outcome of virtue."
The ball started rolling with Summers at Harvard. It's going to get more and more difficult to stop.
I am ashamed to say that I am unable to say with certainty that I would act any differently than the cowards.
One should collect all these particular rules that follow from and are consistent with the concept of non-harassment/non-hostile environment. The resulting rule book should be presented to the people who deem even particular rules mandatory.
What a tragedy that this little future rapist wasn't castrated. We'll never stop rape culture we're not willing to get #ToughOnCrime!
What has this pathetic country come too. Stupid kangaroo courts and idiot police officers. An utter joke.

All your children and childhood are belong to us
I remember a girl who would put love notes in my desk but she cut each individual letter, like a ransom note. It was weird and a bit cool to me then, funny now though.
What kids shouldn't be allowed to have that story?
