Hillary Clinton said a gun buyback measure similar to the one in Australia "would be worth considering" in America.
Oh Hillary, you came and you took without giving, and I voted you in anyway...
Hello, eh?
Does not scan.
But does it surf?
Hello.
"Hillary Clinton said a gun buyback measure similar to the one in Australia "would be worth considering" in America."
These people.
"These people"
Ah... an "Anti-Othering" approach. How very inclusive of you, Rufus.
More importantly than gun buybacks*, however, is the question of your opinion regarding Canadian Bacon on pizza.
*Lie; although I am interested in your opinion on the latter point since I already know your opinion of the former.
Bacon is delicious in a pasta dish called alla carbonara or on pizza (a good replacement for pancetta) as far as I'm concerned. Not sure about Canadian bacon though.
You?
I draw the line at pineapples though. And chicken. At that point just call it a pie with shit people put on it because they feel like it.
Rufus, talking to yourself online is a sign that something is wrong.
Did you see that 1/3 of Canada watched game 5? Is Canada appropriating the United States' national pastime?
I know. Nuts. But it was some game.
I originally tried Canadian Bacon on a pizza for no other reason than the "a pie with shit people put on it because they feel like it" reason you mentioned, and then I found it surprisingly compatible with the pizza. After that I ordered a lot of pizzas with Canadian Bacon on them. Oddly enough, I found that pineapple and Canadian Bacon together worked wonders for my palate, so you and I are opposite in that regard.
Any cooking plans this weekend? One thing we seem to have in common is the joy of cooking for friends and family. And, of course, eating what we find tasty.
Actually I'm off to Cooperstown tomorrow but I will be glad to let you know what I've been up to!
Hit up Ommegang while you are out there. This is great time to go because foliage will make the area seem nice.
Yeah, I've been doing ham on my pizza occasionaly after it was suggested to me. I like it.
If you ever put Canadian "bacon" on a pizza, pineapple is an appropriate added topping (known as a "hawaiian").
Of course, Spam is also a favorite there...
Canadian bacon is good on pizza, though not as a substitute for pancetta or regular American bacon.
Yeah. I agree.
Gotta run. Off to dinner with the family and the MIL.
She's paying.
Soooo. I pick that over you all!
I object to calling it bacon at all. It's basically ham.
True. At the local pizza places here, they give you the same thing if you ask for Canadian bacon or for ham.

And bonus points for choosing a song by Manilow, who is a hearthrob for Hillary's generation.
A HEARTTHROB FOR EVERY GENERATION.
+1 Can't Hardly Wait.
Great at-bat music
I have considered it and I reject it. I also reject anyone who is still considering it.
OK. I've considered it.
By 'worth considering,' she of course means 'failing to implement it would be failing to compromise on the issue.'
Hey, Gun Buybacks are a great idea! Please support mine.
First, please forgive me for that term that strikes of Marxism.
Reeks or stinks, but not strikes. And I hate being that grammar nit-picker, but you're a better writer than that.
More toxic reframing by the progs:
a gun buyback
I didn't buy it from the government, so how is the government buying it back from me?
By using this language (and thanks for uncritically parrotting it, Reason), the implication is that the guns are all the property of the government, really, and that they have let us have them for awhile, but now their patience is exhausted and they want them "back".
Meh, on the term. They are not uncritically parroting it so much as quoting. Yes, it is an inaccurate and dishonest term for the reasons that you and AA have stated.
How can you "buy back" something that was never yours to begin with?
The government owns everything including your flesh and the products of your labor.
They have to write Warty down as a liability on the balance sheet though.
A federal judge today continued to block an Arizona law requiring doctors to tell medical abortion patients that they can "reverse" the procedure.
You can reverse an abortion?
Is Episiarch not proof enough?
He survived his own abortion and was born six months prematurely, but i don't think that counts as a 'reversal.'
So... You're saying that Epi is basically Charlie Kelly?
This puts a whole new perspective on the Night Man.
+1 Boy's hole
What do you do? Just shove it back in?
Well, you have to take the coat hanger out of its ear first.
Ah, yes... Plan C.
That was really good, Shirley!

Dammit, ENB!
Okay, I read "medical abortion" as meaning the non-drug-induced kind.
The terminology is medical vs. surgical.
For whatever reasons, I first read that as medieval vs. surgical.
We don't read the links, ENB; you think we're going to read another link explaining the link?
There are links?
Cool Link
What are these "links" of which you speak?
Who wants a zombie baby
A medical abortion involves taking two drugs separated in time by like...a day? Something like that.
Anyway, this law wants doctors to tell patients that if they take the first dose and change their minds, they can skip the second one and not abort.
However...that's probably not actually true.
If you're interested in birthing a retard, that would be a great way to do it.
Different strokes for different folks, Playa.
So it would seem, Playa.
If not, there's always the more widely applied solution to not having a fully mentally functioning child, which is to raise them to be mentally deficient.
By sending them to an inner city public school?
Not limited to inner city ones, I assure you.
When I was a youngster, MPG, I eventually met the parent(s) of some of my similarly aged schoolmates.
I remember thinking things like "Ah.... This explains much."
It was on several of these occasions that I realized that my own parents, despite the flaws I perceived them to have at that time of my existence, were not only preferable to the alternatives, but greatly superior in many ways.
That's risky, though. They might rebel and do something independently.
Want to see a picture of my baby? Just look here in this microscope.
That sounds...risky.
However...that's probably not actually true.
If it's not true, why are they taking the second drug?
Oklahoma's attorney general said he won't seek any new executions during an ongoing investigation into how the state used the wrong drug during an execution in January.
So that deterrent is off the table? WOOHOO! CAPITAL CRIMES ALL THE WAY BABY.
"Two Chicago police officers are under investigation for allegedly advertising a 14-year-old girl and possibly more teens for commerical sex. "
These are the only people in our society who should have guns.
How many more cases of corrupt cops do we need before people stop acting like all cops deserve an especially high level of respect and deferential treatment?
THEY ARE EXCEPTIONS PLAYA.
Shouldn't this bring some kind of enhanced charges? THEY WERE POSSIBLY ARMED WHEN THEY COMMITTED THE CRIME.
Mitigated by the fact that they are cops.
These are the only people in our society who should have guns.
Who, the 14-yo girls?
Not a bad idea.
I can't decide if that would make 14 year-old girl cattiness worse or better...
I'm guessing much worse, for a few days, and then a hell of a lot better.
An armed society is a polite society.
OMG, RC, did you see that outfit kibby is wearing?
You cannot generalize anything about a group from forced prostution of one or two (or 1400) under-16s!

Most amazing part of the CPD sex-trafficking story:
Oh, well at least there's THAT.
They probably just didn't receive the proper training.
Proper training? Call Don Magic Juan!
They wanted to make it clear that there were no policies or procedures violated. Just the 14-year old.
Idiots can't even goldbrick.
They were getting their sleep on-duty.
Pimpin' while off-duty ain't easy...
And how the fuck do they know that none of this happened on-duty?
Plus, why aren't their names and pictures being plastered all over the news stories about this?

That's not a peephole.
But you get actual sex, not almost nudity.

Do they have internet in their rooms? What else do you need?
Seriously. Maybe they caved to some Christian fundies, and maybe the margin on PPV porn has dropped a little since PornTube came along.
I've heard that the reason they charge for internet access is to make back the money they've lost on porn

Case closed. They didn't have Amazon Prime.
P.S. make sure to buy your killing drugs through my link. Reason gets a cut.
Is the perp dead? If so, they didn't use the "wrong" drug.
Not sure if this was a case where he was guilty beyond the shadow of doubt, but given the many, documented cases of executions of innocent men your faith in the criminal justice system is misplaced.
But is the Emperor as forgiving as you are?
...Hyatt Hotels announced that it will stop offering porn on-demand in its hotel rooms.
Unless they're also not offering wifi, the effect should be minimal.
Wait, people used to pay for that?
Many hotels charge for it.
"I didn't watch that! Take it off my bill!"
Suckers.
Plus, the speeds on most hotel wifi make streaming video a distant memory.
Hotel porn is the stuff you fast forward through, and with the stuff you wanted to see excised.
"Under pressure from a Christian morals group, Hyatt Hotels announced that it will stop offering porn on demand in its hotel rooms. "
Translation:
Offering porn on demand has stopped being profitable because 90% of our customers are just streaming it for free to their laptops and ipads so we're gonna throw the fundies a bone and home to get some pr value out of canceling the service
And we are also going to charge more for wifi.

"the book is excellent."

The Wikipedia link below sums-up fairly well - essentially the story is circular: young man willing to die/sacrifice for his country; destroyed by war and wishing to die himslef; ultimately desires to again sacrifice himself as a display to show the horrors of war.

Why does ENB even bother showing up any more?
The commenters are awesome, that's why.
These scoundrels will certainly regret their actions after they get placed on paid leave and their charges eventually dropped.
Now, now, Free Society. Dropping the charges would be too blatant even for Chicago. They will be charged and the DA will completely mess up the prosecution and they will walk. Remember, dropped charges can be reinstated, but once acquitted they're golden. The only recourse after an acquittal in state court would be federal prosecution.
Acquittals won't protect you. There's probably 20 different identical federal and state laws on the books covering the things they did that the DA could whip out when the first one fails. Statutory law has a way of circumventing basically any common law and constitutional protections you could name. But they're cops, so that won't happen anyways.
I learned about this on the page where they were showing that depressing cop story:
"A woman who disappeared 31 years ago in Germany and was registered dead after a man confessed to her murder, was found two weeks ago living in Dusseldorf, the International Business Times reported."
(I didn't link to the International Business Times story because it has autoplay)
(I'm not sure if the man who confessed was actually convicted of killing the woman - he was being investigated for another crime at the time)
I'm sure he wasn't under any duress at all when he made the confession. (Or maybe he's just crazy.)
So if he served a sentence for her murder, can he go and kill her with impunity now?
Is Paraguay the Texas of South America (and Brazil its CA)?
Paraguay offers Brazilian business owners various incentives, such as more affordable electricity, lower taxes, and the so-called Maquila Law, which establishes a tax exemption for foreign companies that import raw materials and machinery, so long as they export the finished product.
Furthermore, in Paraguay, the income tax (ISLR) and value-added tax (VAT) are each set at 10 percent.

My understanding is that he did post that on Yelp under the name Werner Herzog, but I've never endeavored to confirm it.
1/3 of the people laughing don't know who Werner Herzog is but are afraid of being embarrassed.
Its similar to the highbrow-humor of "Why did the chicken cross the road", answered by famous figures.
My personal favorite was Yukio Mishima
" The chicken's extension of its sinuous
legs sent shivers of a dark despair into the souls not only of the silently
watching hens but also the roosters, who felt a sudden sexual desire for
their exquisite comrade. The dark courage of the chicken was as beautiful as
drops of dew upon jade at midnight, struck by a partial moon, its light
filtered through clouds. One of the deeply aroused roosters could stand the
intensity of the moment no more and bit off the head of the beautiful,
courageous chicken-hero, whose wine blood was deliciously drunk by the road,
and he died. "
Yukio Mishima and Agile Cyborg seem to have a few things in common.
They both make a lot more sense in Japanese
Ok, that's fucking hilarious... and I say this as someone who's never found Comedy Bang Bang as particularly comedic.
Agreed, but Paul F. Tompkins can be really funny.

US Economy: Effects of Excessive Drinking Costs Nation $249 Billion, CDC Study Says
I bet unions cost 10 times that in reduced work productivity alone.
True, although in some cases separating the effects of the two might be difficult.
10? Not even close.
Incorrect assumption on the CDC's part.
"excessive" drinking is far more often a symptom of other problems and an attempt to either avoid dealing with them or self medicate them. Eliminating the drinking does not solve the root problem and therefore the "lost productivity" and crime would still occur, just for different reasons (and likely in slightly different ways).
In the cases where the excess drinking is not a symptom of some other cause it is almost always a case of someone releasing pent up stress and while that can sometimes lead to missed time at work and even some criminal activity again, not getting that stress release will eventually do the same as well.
The end result, excess drinking probably has some net negative effect on the economy, but it is likely a small fraction of what they are attributing to it here.
The idea that you're "costing" society through "lost productivity" by not contributing your fair share is just so totally evil. Not giving = taking, in other words. If society has some sort of claim on your productivity, you're not a free human being, you're livestock.
If you're not drinking excessively, you're just not trying hard enough.
So the CDC lied and people died?
I like the U.S. government's handwringing over 'lost productivity' as it relates to this or that social phenomenon.
The reason they do this is they believe you OWE the government a certain minimum level of productivity which translates to tax revenue.
My excessive drinking doesn't *cost* anyone else anything that isn't handled between me and that anyone else.
What does this have to do with bioterror or infectious disease? Nothing. Time for a CDC budget cut.
Sounds like we need a new Soviet...I mean American man.
Glad you settled everything in your China Summit, Obama
China Huffs, Puffs, Insists Islands 3000km from Mainland are Sovereign Territory
China said on Friday it would not stand for violations of its territorial waters in the name of freedom of navigation, as the United States considers sailing warships close to China's artificial islands in the South China Sea.
A U.S. defense official told Reuters on Thursday the United States was considering sending ships to waters inside the 12-nautical-mile zones that China claims as territory around islands it has built in the Spratly chain.
Western media reports quoted U.S. officials as saying the action could take place within a matter of days, but awaited a decision by U.S. President Barack Obama.""
For a visual reference
Fwiw, this is an issue that's been on the low-boil for a few years now. Instead, Obama pretends 'climate change' is diplomatic priority.
Look, Gilmore, China is just defending its territorial integrity. They literally built those islands from fucking nothing, and now you want to deny them the rights? NEOCON!

American imbeciles (usually East Coast urbanites) do not realize how destructive elephants can be to crops and livestock especially in a country where people live on subsistence farming.
I remember seeing a documentary on that. An elephant in Kenya was in a pumpkin patch plucking pumpkins and eating them like they were potato chips and all the while stomping the ones he wasn't eating. He ruined every pumpkin in a 5 acre patch in about 30 minutes.
Despite that, I could not bring myself to shoot one.

Here's an interesting article about how Denmark works. It's more free market and more highly taxed than America, with those taxes overwhelmingly being waged by local-government. HIV is also the counter to "that which does not kill us makes us stronger"
"Positive Anything is Better than Negative Nothing"
What is that even supposed to mean? Isn't negative nothing just nothing?
In the context of jail, I'd much rather have negative zero dicks forced into me than positive anything. I can think of plenty of other counterexamples too.

However, from what i understand, the level of risk-reduction is really only relevant in places like Africa where there's such a high proportion of HIV positives floating around, and there are zero other preventative measures being taken. Something like that.
It definitely does decrease the risk of HIV infection, and it also decreases HPV transmission. Just sayin'.

A federal judge today continued to block an Arizona law requiring doctors to tell medical abortion patients that they can "reverse" the procedure.
First of all, it's MEDICATION abortion, not MEDICAL abortion. A difference in a few letters makes a huge difference.
But I actually clicked through to hope that wasn't actually what the law mandated.... and, nope, the law actually requires that doctors tell patients that medication abortion is reversible. Which is.... quite simply astounding.

OK, I just had a record broken. The single most retarded thing I've ever heard from Progs.
There's a radio show here in the afternoon drive time called Wayne Besson (not sure of spelling). His theme today, beyond the usual "Republicans, are they more evil or more stupid? Why are quacks like Ben Carson and Rand Paul allowed to practice medicine?" shtick was mass shootings.
He crowed that 4 out of 5 mass shootings are committed by white people (not sure how he counts mulattos). Then spent the next hour speculating about "What is it about white people which makes them more likely to commit mass shootings?"
So, that's just normal stupid-innumerate. Here's the icing.
A guy calls in, announces that he's a black man, and talks about the cultural differences between white and black people. "When a white man feels that he's been wronged, his reaction is to go get a gun and start shooting. Black men just don't do that." Besson agrees with him.
THIS IS A CHICAGO RADIO SHOW.
Just...pretend the caller was trolling...it's the only way to stay sane.
And so was the host. That I find more believable in a world with Michael Savage.
Aren't "wight males" most likely to go on murderous rampages according to a majority of the available literature, OMWC?
Time to take a statistics course, Mr. E.
Spelling, too, but I'm a shitty typist, so I have a bit of sympathy.
W-H-I-T-E
The joke, you didn't get it.
It was intentional and a bit of a jest, OMWC.
Wights, as "introduced" to the ordinary readership of his time by Tolkien, and later "reinvented" by the creators of the early AD&D game system, were a type of ravenous undead creature. By their inherent nature they'd be mass murderers (in line with the suppositions of the individuals you mentioned hearing on the radio with regards to white males).
I doubt many will find this interesting: Wight yet I shall post it regardless.
Having written that, I'll get serious and eventually look into "who" has committed the majority of mass murders.
Ah, gotcha. I read The Hobbit, hated it, never read anything else by him. Never saw the movies. Whizzzz, right over my head!

Ideology often blinds people and makes them say very stupid things. But even Mother Jones says 16% of mass shootings 1982-2013 were committed by blacks, so they seem to be over-represented compared to population.
RACIST! RACIST! RACIST!
True, though.
My favorite retarded bit of prog thinking is the "Butterfield Effect": the "paradox" of prisons getting fuller even though crime rates were dropping.
Unfortunately, some conservatives bring up the Fox Butterfield Effect to end any discussion about the US incarceration rate, which happens to be the highest in the world. As if there's nothing wrong to be a prison nation as long as the crime rates are relatively low.
Just respond with:
I see your Butterfield Effect and raise you one Blackstone's Formulation.
True, the Butterfield Effect is not some sort of air-tight argument in favor of mass incarceration. It's just mocking liberals for not grasping how imprisoning criminals might reduce crime.
You would sound so much cleverer if other jurisdictions hadn't seen the same drop in crime without so much incarceration, and if the recent policy in Texas and other states of releasing more prisoners had caused an increase in crime (it hasn't).
There are too many factors involved to credit any one thing, and of course it matters who gets released. If you're letting out pot dealers, you might well see no increase in the crime rate. If you let out career armed robbers and car thieves, you might.
Plus, of course, jurisdictions are well known for often fudging their stats. SF is having an epidemic of car break-ins, but the police don't really care. Citizens learn this and stop bothering to report them. A few years ago Chicago got exposed by a magazine investigation. Turns out that you can improve the city murder stats if you do things like count the body of a woman tied to a chair and tortured to death as a "suicide."
I'm going out on a limb and guessing this epidemic of car break-ins is another one the fantasies you huffed on some nutjob website where other nutjobs come to congregate and spread lies. See also, 'Ferguson effect', 'war on cops'.
No, it's because I live in this city and read the comments on local newspaper websites. It's not a scientific analysis, but that's what lots of SF people are complaining about right now. That, and the homeless shitting on the streets.
And, of course, you seem to enjoy challenging my assertions as baseless fantasies, and then when I link to proof you either dismiss it because it showed up in a publication you don't like, or simply ignore it. As you did the other day when you claimed there was no increase in rapes in Sweden due to immigration, and once I posted proof, you just disappeared.
Here's a new link for you. Yes, it's on Breitbart. Do you expect to read this sort of thing in the New York Times? Anyway, it's a Danish source originally.
I 'dissapear' because I have things to do that are more important than listening to your pants-shitting routine. Your Breittard article is typical weaksauce. "Oh my God, a poll finds X like the Quran more." BFD this is not really demonstrating much and I am sure your 'proof' of an increase in Swedish rapes is the same.
Sweden's 'apparent rape rate' likely has a lot to do with the fact that rape is recorded very differently there. The track "each case of sexual violence separately. So for example if someone says they were raped by a partner every day for a fortnight, officers will record 14 potential crimes. Elsewhere, many countries would log the claim as a single incident."
I'm sure women around the world appreciate your claim that 14 rapes is really only 1 rape.
The rapes just kind of blur together after awhile
So, you're saying that the increase comes from rapists becoming monogamous with their victims?

Isn't it bizarre how many criminals visibly mark themselves that way? I guess that's a clue that prisons aren't filled with high-IQ types.

I think of it as an indicator of extreme anger and extreme stupidity.
It's funny how first impressions can be misleading.
furthermore it looks like it's in the style of HR Giger, who is very cool but I doubt even he would have his artwork tattooed on his face. It would be inappropriate in like 99% of social settings
""It would be inappropriate in like 99% of social settings'"
Well, probably not in the circles he socializes in.
That said = i'm not sure what's more appalling
- the crime he committed
- the fact that he tattooed his face to guarantee he's permanently shunned by society
- or that fact he has a Monster Energy Drink logo tattooed on his neck. It pretty much ruins any of the Hip Cred he might have had even in the lowest of the SuperFreak circles.
Yeah probably not. Which you'd think would be a tip-off. Some aspects of appearance say more than others because they are conscious choices.
Or the fact that someone trusted him as a babysitter.
Does the neighborhood have no 14-16 year old girls? Or do they not do that sort of thing any more?
I'm guessing it was the mother's poorly-chosen boyfriend.

Large corporations want to add to the legal burdens of their small competitors. Or in journalism terms, responsible corporate citizens are fighting for civil rights in Indiana.
"Major corporations and business groups based in Indiana ? including pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, Cummins Engine Company, the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, and a coalition of tech companies ? are pushing for a broad civil-rights law to protect people from discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation, according to officials who spoke to BuzzFeed News....

One in six Texas residents was born in some other country.
And probably not the country you think.
More immigrants now come to Texas from Asia than Latin America, at least based on trends since the 2013 figures published this week by the official state demographer.

If you're born in Texas, you WERE born in a different country.
"Caught on camera: Amazing moment a woman gives birth to a premature baby girl at 30,000ft on a Bali to Los Angeles flight with crew and passengers helping out
"A doctor on the flight delivered the baby after her mother went into labour
"The Taiwanese woman gave birth to a baby girl six hours into the flight
"Both baby and mother are reported to be in good condition....
"According to the China Post, the Civil Aeronautics Administration have confirmed that the baby's nationality will depend upon the birth certificate issued by the Anchorage hospital as she was born in U.S. airspace aboard a Republic of China carrier."
It is my opinion that the baby will be better off with PRC citizenship. More freedom, more free enterprise, greater respect of private property and capitalism, great food, hotter women, the list goes on.

What are you drinking? What are you listening? What threads from today should I skip?
Drinking: Mr. Pibb
Listening: Pete Rock, Petstrumentals.
That's funny. I didn't know anyone "listened" to that. I always thought it was only released on vinyl just for DJs to use. Was it on BBE? (barely breaking even) they had a few others of the same basic approach if i recall. Jay Dee, Spinna....
here. The comp was pretty good. All that stuff was constantly getting used
(Stupid squirrels ate my post)
I was just thinking of buying Petestrumentals; I listen to things like Instrumental HipHop Beats on Songza while I'm working and there's some stuff from Petstrumentals in there
Of the more 'melodic' and loop-driven type of stuff like that, I liked Iron Horse, and the first Express Rising album (havent heard his newer stuff)
Stuff more like the Pete album, there's that Jay Dee release (1st link above) and of course there's always DJ Krush, DJ Cam, Vadim etc., a dozen other people who made the more laid back 'trip-hop' stuff. It was tres internationale.
You can also pretty much dip into anything on the Mo'Wax label and fund stuff you might like. That stuff was all hugely fun to mix with in the late 1990s. After the Neptunes sound (more staccato & synthy) sort of took over in the early 2000s not many people seem to make much of that kind of thing anymore. (*with the exceptions noted above)
Thanks, I'll check some of those out; I've already got a bunch of Krush/Vadim/Cam along with lots of releases from the Ninja Tune label, on the trip-hop side of things.
Sculpin, as always. Even better in cans; the recycling doesn't fill up too quickly.

At least I'm not posting nonsense about how everyone believes that entitlement programs don't work while hardly anyone will agree to actually cut them or not create more of them.
No one complains about what you're not doing.
Hi Gilmore, let's talk foreign policy. You raised an interesting point about trade last night. During WWI the British blockaded Germany so how was the US supposed to keep trading with Germany? Not really sure what "non-interventionist" way to handle that was. I suppose they could have threatened to, or actually, attack the Royal Navy but not only would that be interventionist but that would have required a major naval buildup.
I'll take a stab at it:
The government does nothing.
Private american ships can choose to try running the blockade, or not.
Whoop de doo.
So "trade with all" is unworkable then?
"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto." - Thomas Jefferson
Well the first part is impossible then.
Of course it's unworkable, in the sense of not being achievable under all possible circumstances.
If a foreign country is embroiled in civil war and it's too dangerous for Americans to go and trade there, is the government supposed to invade and restore order?
If a country fills itself with landmines, messing with overland trade, is it the responsibility of the US government to go over there and demine the place? What about nuclear fallout?
Should we invade foreign countries that ban certain of our exports, Opium wars style? What about double digit tariffs? Protectionist subsidies? Overregulation? Societies that practice Autarky willingly?
"Military action to enhance trade" leads to pretty dumb interventions pretty fast.
I'm not saying you can't make a limited case for stopping third parties (pirates, other countries) from infringing on existing bilateral trade. But doing it by appealing to "we should trade with everyone" as a motivating principle is a really weak argument.
If Charles E. shows up here again, yeah, ham is fine. But I like when it's cut thinly on a pizza. Some people prefer chunks - chacun sont gout. I do put it on my pizza from time to time. There's an Italian ham called 'prosciutto cotto' which is nice on a pizza too. Not to mention prosciutto (any kind except culatello which really should be eaten straight up it's so good) itself.

Hadn't thought about those in years.
The belief now is that water bongs filter out too much of what you want. Vaporizers are much better, plus you avoid all the combustion products. And decent pot these days is much stronger than in the water bong days, so you need less of it, anyway.
New York teenager caught with scary knife has charges dismissed
He claimed that he was some sort of "Sikh," that his knife was something called a "kirpan" which the Sikh religion requires men to carry, and that he was on his way to evening prayers when he was caught.
The soft-on-crime judge and prosecutor agreed that the charges should be dismissed in the interests of justice.
Fortunately, this does not set a precedent - charges can still be brought against these "Sikh" weirdos in future cases.
(the foregoing contains sarcasm)
As far as religious rules go "Carry a knife everywhere" is pretty damn good.
I think its closer to 'Hyatt Hotels is dropping porn because a) nobody's paying for it since they have wifi on their phones in addiction to unlimited data plans, and b) because we're not losing anything otherwise (and may gain a little if people will pay our ludicrous daily wifi access fees) we believe that we can get some positive PR out of this.
Nice.

Who has that? Verizon Wireless has a 12G plan and then it's pay as you go. I crossed that bridge a few days ago, as I do most months. I do watch some porn but never to the end.
