Daily Beast Reports That Ivana Trump Once Privately Accused Donald Trump of Rape, Trump's Lawyer Threatens Reporter

In case you thought Donald Trump couldn't get any more awful, The Daily Beast just published a story about a decades-old encounter that Trump's ex-wife Ivana later privately described as rape, according to a 1993 account.
Trump's lawyer responded to The Daily Beast in extremely aggressive terms—claiming that, legally speaking, it's not possible to rape one's spouse, and by threatening, in vulgar and suggestive language, The Daily Beast's reporters.
The Daily Beast's report draws from the 1993 book Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald Trump, in which former Newsweek reporter Harry Hurt III describes a violent sexual encounter between Donald Trump and his former wife Ivana. After a scalp reduction surgery (intended to cover a bald spot) performed by a surgeon Ivana had used, Trump was extremely angry. After yelling at Ivana and pulling her hair, Hurt's book says, he tore her clothes, and then "he jams his penis inside her for the first time in more than sixteen months. Ivana is terrified…It is a violent assault. According to versions she repeats to some of her closest confidantes, 'he raped me.'" The next day, according to the book, Trump casually asked her, "Does it hurt?"
When Daily Beast reporters Tim Mak and Brandy Zadrozny called Trump Organization Special Counsel Michael Cohen about the accusation, he threatened the reporters (or perhaps "reporter" if only one of them made the call) with lawsuits and unspecified "disgusting" actions:
"I will make sure that you and I meet one day while we're in the courthouse. And I will take you for every penny you still don't have. And I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know," Cohen said. "So I'm warning you, tread very fucking lightly, because what I'm going to do to you is going to be fucking disgusting. You understand me?"
"You write a story that has Mr. Trump's name in it, with the word 'rape,' and I'm going to mess your life up…for as long as you're on this frickin' planet…you're going to have judgments against you, so much money, you'll never know how to get out from underneath it," he added.
Cohen, who is, again, Trump's lawyer, which you might presume implies some legal knowledge and competency, also argued that legally it's not possible to rape your wife:
"You're talking about the front-runner for the GOP, presidential candidate, as well as private individual who never raped anybody. And, of course, understand that by the very definition, you can't rape your spouse."
"It is true," Cohen added. "You cannot rape your spouse. And there's very clear case law."
As The Daily Beast points out, that claim is (like a lot of things that have come out of the mouth of Cohen's client) totally untrue. New York law has had a provision on the books making spousal rape a crime since 1984. Apparently, Donald Trump needs, among other things, a different lawyer.
In Hurt's book, Ivana Trump gave a statement, provided by Donald Trump's lawyers, describing the incident. She said that in 1989 "Mr. Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently toward me than he had during our marriage. As a woman, I felt violated, as the love and tenderness, which he normally exhibited towards me, was absent. I referred to this as a 'rape,' but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense." As The Daily Beast notes, the terms of Ivana's 1991 divorce from Donald Trump prevent her from speaking about their marriage without his authorization.
Donald Trump, who recently accused Mexican immigrants of being "rapists," is leading the GOP presidential primary field in multiple polls, including the latest from CNN, although he's still virtually certain not to win the Republican party nomination. Thank goodness.
Update: Cohen has made the following statement to CNN apologizing for…well, it's not entirely clear. But for at least something he said in the Daily Beast interview.
"As an attorney, husband and father there are many injustices that offend me but nothing more than charges of rape or racism. They hit me at my core. Rarely am I surprised by the press, but the gall of this particular reporter to make such a reprehensible and false allegation against Mr. Trump truly stunned me. In my moment of shock and anger, I made an inarticulate comment—which I do not believe—and which I apologize for entirely."
CNN also reports that Ivana Trump responded by saying that "the story is totally without merit."

So Trump met Ivana at UVA?
You know what other presidential candidate was accused of sexual misconduct?
Thomas Jefferson! Scrub him from the history books!
he founded the university of virginia. he has a built-in defense.
Originally, the University of Vagina.
Mmm, delish.
Also...yes Trump is horrible, but I honestly don't see him being any worse than Hilary. And I agree he can't win so I hardly give a rat's ass what he does or says.
Trump is better than Jeb!
I get the very strong impression that Reason disagrees.
Based on their recent coverage, Reason seems to think Trump is the worst possible candidate in the history of the multiverse.
There's a simple explanation for that:
Trump is the worst possible candidate in the history of the multiverse.
And anyone who thinks otherwise is as much of an imbecile as Trump is.
^Look at the TEAM RED Fan Boi:Ready4JEB!^
So your contention is that if you aren't supporting Trump, you are supporting Bush?
Care to explain that?
As if the article before this wasn't clear = trump is not a candidate. He's a sideshow that is interesting mainly because other candidates are self-consciously boring because its 'safer' at this stage. And meanwhile trump is free to gore (pun intended) the media in ways that reveal the superficiality of political 'news'. He exposes the gap between political bullshit and reality.
I like trump for this alone - not who he is, which is a boorish clown - but for now he makes the media shit itself with apoplexy that despite their denouncements, he's only grown in popularity.
Well, Huckabee is up there, since we don't need another stupid bible thumper in office. But, yes, Trump thinking he can solve international incidents by acting like an asshole and getting the people to say "You are so right, President Trump. I am a poor loser compared to you, and my daughter isn't nearly as beautiful as Ivanka!" would turn America into Idiocracy.
And I couldn't stop laughing at his foreign policy plan, which is basically "get scarier weapons and ISIS will give up." Like it's just a dick measuring contest to them.
Its a lesser known fact that Hillary Clinton also raped Ivana Trump. But not in the legal or criminal sense, to be clear.
STEVE SMITH RAPE ANYONE WHO NOT VOTE TRUMP
STEVE SMITH RAPE ANYONE WHO NOT VOTE TRUMP
FIFY
STEVE SMITH AGREE WITH FIX!
The Daily Beast just published a story
Old News, Mr McArdle
"Mr. Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently toward me than he had during our marriage. As a woman, I felt violated, as the love and tenderness, which he normally exhibited towards me, was absent. I referred to this as a 'rape,' but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense."
This isn't quite up there with the Bush Administration creating sympathy for terrorists by torturing them, but it's in the same ballpark.
Donald Trump is so awful, I don't who's trying to create sympathy for him, but accusing him of being a hypocrite for calling out rapists--after his alleged victim has publicly denied that she was raped--is a great way to drum up sympathy for Trump.
Is the Daily Beast owned by Donald Trump? Is he paying them to publish this?
Trump should donate some $$$ to Reason. They're working hard to win my GOP Presidential Preference Primary vote for Donald Trump. Or better yet, Trump should say it is a tragic shame that Fonzie caught the AIDS.
you think her statement helps him?
I think falsely accusing a candidate, yeah, helps that candidate--especially if he's running as a maverick.
They're accentuating his outsider status, and they're feeding into the narrative about everyone being out to stop him.
They're making him seem like even more of a credible threat.
Ken, I think you might want to read the full Daily Beast post and think about why Ivana made a statement like that (which was included in the book, published in 1993, and not made this week).
I was making a tongue in cheek accusation about why the Daily Beast might be bringing this up now.
I suppose Poe's Law applies here, but I was going for irony.
In trying to make him look bad, isn't it ironic that they're actually making him look good? If they had set out to make him look good, isn't it ironic that they might have written the same thing?
I didn't really think they were trying to make him look good. My post was supposed to be a statement about the feebleness of their effort.
Well, it doesn't seem feeble to me, and he isn't looking good to me.
What doesn't seem feeble?
Making Trump out to look like a hypocrite for calling other people rapists--because his ex-wife claimed that she was never raped?
I've never raped anybody either! Maybe I should be careful what I say about rapists, too!
Trump's wife accuses him of never having raped her, and we're supposed to find that disturbing?
Meanwhile, Trump is a scumbag for a hundred other real reasons! Why not focus on any one of those?
Nikki...Have you never had sex with someone you had fallen out of love with? You did it anyway, my guess is you conveyed that in 10 little, or big ways. And, it hurt the guy. He wasn't raped though, and it shouldn't be written in an article saying he was.
P.S. The Bush Administration wasn't trying to create sympathy for terrorists by torturing them either, but guess what happened.
The media is just in the tank for him. He's going to go into the debate, get heated, and say "You're a failure, I'm a winner. You even failed at marriage. Your husband shoved a cigar into some big fat fatty! Have you seen my wife? Beautiful! I wouldn't take a second look at Monica. She's a poor loser! And ugly! And fat! But you're fat and ugly, too! How does it feel to be such a big fat fatty with cankles?" Then Hillary wins 47 states.
I don't think that Ivana has to worry about that anymore. I even think that she is STEVE SMITH safe. On the other hand, you have to admire The Donald's ability to dump a diminishing asset.
As I said in the other thread, there are so many awful things you could go after Trump for--all of them true--why resort to this?
They're actually making The Donald look credible.
It's like accusing Hitler of having only one testicle--as if perpetrating the holocaust weren't bad enough?
Hitler has only got one ball,
G?ring has two but very small,
Himmler has something sim'lar,
But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.

The British are the funniest people on earth.
I had similar thoughts. This is the best they can do?
Lesson: never leave your washed-up former model wife for a younger beauty pageant bimbo?.else wife #1 will say bad, bad semi-true things about you in a tell-all book ? things she'll attempt to retract later
in the salon/ daily beast/ twitter / gawker era no one can un-ring the rape bell.
He only had one testicle! My God! Do people know this? And, they still like him?
In related news, Sarah Palin thinks she can see the Kremlin from her kitchen window.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/palin/russia.asp
So she's saying, it wasn't rape-rape.
I think it means it was angry sex but consensual.
Make-up sex can be great.
Sometimes angry sex and make-up sex can be hard to tell apart.
Surprise sex is criminal.
Non-consensual sex is criminal.
I think she's saying it was consensual.
It sounds like it was rough sex that went 'too far' or something.
If the Daily Beast is trying to discredit Trump with this, it'll probably backfire.
"If the Daily Beast is trying to discredit Trump with this, it'll probably backfire."
Probably, but he's more than capable of doing that himself.
Dunno. I expected his campaign to implode and/or him to bow out earlier. Yet, he's still here.
Actually, the correct translation is, "I want some money from this fucking rapist."
What a night.
AC is out.
While fixing it I almost fried the computer.
I can live without AC.
"AC is out."
Are we to presume this is in contrast to DC, or perhaps a comment regarding posts that normally take up this shift?
AC - for those of you who live further than 10 feet from Hell - is 'Air Conditioning'.
Its 2200 and 85deg F *in* the house.
I thought he was referring to Agile Cyborg's absence.

Just finished "Once Upon a Time in Russia"
http://www.amazon.com/Once-Upo.....+in+russia
Written by a 'journalist' and in a journalist's style; cross-country plane ride will get you through it. Needs 'way more context to help with understanding who's zoomin' who; Putin comes across looking almost statesmanlike, while some of the oligarchs seem to be buffoons.
But whatever passed for capitalism in post-commie Russia wasn't for the faint of heart.
Hey Sevo, C. Anacreon says SugarFree is trying to get in touch with you. If that hasn't happened already, send me ( @gmail.com) your email and I'll forward it on.
...he tore her clothes, and then "he jams his penis inside her for the first time in more than sixteen months...
Judging from her choices in men, Trump sounds eerily like Hillary's kinda guy.
Penises do tend to get jammed into vaginas. It isn't like there is a lot of room to spare around them...ergo they are 'jammed' in. And, what does the 16 months have to do with anything. Is there a time limit upon which one can't go back?
*ahem*
doot doot doodle doo doo doot doot doo doot
Is this what you mean?
and of course the next trump "moment" will be when he's asked if he agree's with his lawyer that a husband can't rape his wife.
i can't disagree more with anyone who suggests this will help him in anyway. it's not a knockout punch, but you have to remember, it's early yet. reporters just started really looking, and they're coming up with this already?
how trump exits the race is now clear to me. he'll withdraw saying that the process isn't worth it. there are other ways to serve, and he'll encourage his supporters to hate the media even more than they already do, because they deprived them of a trump presidency.
""the next trump "moment" will be when he's asked if he agree's with his lawyer that a husband can't rape his wife.""
Oh, it will be awesome.
"Rape Ivana? The whore was begging for it. Don't make me laugh. All the drugs she was on she didn't know what was going on half the time. You people are sick and you disgust me. My lawyer is going to take your children away and burn your houses down. All legal too - he's that fucking good. But seriously, I love Ivana, she's hilarious. Next question"
It is as if GILMORE can see the future!
Gilmore....absolutely you nailed it. Nothing phases the guy. As well it shouldn't.
Rather odd that this book is 22 years old and only now is this sensational story being reported. It's not like Trump has been an obscure figure since that time.
Just when you though the Trumpmania couldn't get more annoying
So a disguntled ex claims rape?
Sorry, I don't give a rat's fucking ass.
This story is just so much fluff.
If Reason gets any fluffier, it's closest competitor will be HuffPo. Sad.
"So a disguntled ex claims rape?"
No, she claims consensual sex that was scary and felt kinda rapey. Journalists are claiming rape.
huh it's usually the right that claims their opponents are "projecting". i can't argue with it coming from them, nor can i here, but i do usually jump on any opportunity that presents itself to think badly of our lords and masters. donald trump has been successful enough at whatever it is he does that he's in the position to run for president on his own money, so i suspect he's not a complete idiot, but he makes himself awfully easy to dislike. i guess im just waiting for him to pull off his human mask (which is not a great one, by the way)
So, a decades old passage, from a tell-all book written to sell copies, by an ex-wife, who even admits that it wasn't rape, literal or criminally, revealed during a campaign, in a time when dubious rape allegations, especially from journalists, are the latest fad, and Reason appears to side with...the Daily Beast? The site's position on Trump is clear but how about some objectivity...c'mon.
And I don't support trump either, but this story is a fluff and bullshit. I expect better.
"I referred to this as a 'rape,' but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense."
"I referred to him as a 'possible sheep fucker,' but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense."
"I referred to her as 'being fed into a woodchipper,' but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense."
lulz
Juanita Broaddrick had no comment.
HIYO!
This just shows the depths people will go to. They're scared of me. It's clear. And that's because they're losers. And I'm a winner. And that's what America needs. Thank you, Pottstown!
/Trump Voice
The accusation itself seems dubious at best, given Ivana's statement that it wasn't rape. But why the bizarre, threatening response from the lawyer? Why not just say: "Mrs. Trump herself said explicitly this wasn't rape so it's a non-story"?
Threatening the reporter with personal financial ruin, and denying that one spouse can legally rape another, is...weird. Is Trump's lawyer mentally ill?
The staff here may want to let this story play out a bit before gleefully rushing in due to their obvious bias against Trump. I also think he's a moron, but you can't rail against organizations and institutions who are quick to pull the rape card, then throw caution to the wind when it suits your own motives. I don't care whether the story is true or not. Please try not to be too hypocritical on this subject in the future.
Jesus Christ Trump do not fuck this up for me.
Takes one to know one?
STEVE SMITH KNOW THEM ALL.
Could it be she couldn't talk about it for legal reasons- the article said she wasn't allowed to talk about her marriage unless trump ok'd it. Or maybe she thought between trumps money and he said/she said that she wouldn't win, and that trump would come after her. And now she sees a way at getting back? Just playing devils advocate here
So, the Don is an illegal immigrant?
I'm not sure about the law in NY, but it is legally possible to rape your spouse: a wedding ring does not equal unwaivable consent. That said, I have no idea if Ivana's allegations have any truth to them.
However, one thing should be clear: the guy making lewd curse-filled threats to a reporter is a lawyer for the current Republican frontrunner.
Ever hear/read any Derschowitz rants?

Trump's lawyer handled this well. Someone wants to destroy my life by writing a false article about me then I want my lawyer to let the guy know in no uncertain terms what I'm doing back to him. Maybe the bluster works.
I barely read anything about Hillary, and she's done some bad stuff. Meanwhile I could have read 2000 articles about Mitt putting his dog on his car roof while going on vacation. These people think nothing of doing whatever they can for the sake of their ideology to destroy people, be it a Trump or a baker somewhere. Someone is fighting back. Good on him.
So, (pure speculation) here is Trump's game. He runs, he loses. While doing so he is slandered 1000 times. He is lied about and treated like crap. He sues them all and ends up owning the NY Times.
i'm actually amazed at the degree to which the media thought there was no story here. which, of course, made it easier for people to pretend that 1) ivana said she never said "rape", which is factually false, and 2) that this was all a new accusation by the daily beast, rather than simply repeating something already public, just forgotten about. it's impressive really. it's like the media had it's feelings hurt that trump felt like he was being unfairly attacked, and decided to give him some space because, god forbid, he leave the race or something.
