Brickbat: Maybe Some Day When They Learn, Cherokee Nation Will Return

The Madison, Wisconsin, school board has banned students from wearing "shirts, hats, or other attire depicting Native American team names, logos, or mascots." The vote was unanimous but only after one board member was assured the rule would not require Black Hawk Middle School to change its name.

Ah, the Fuqawi tribe.
That's some good ole' fashioned FAMILY racism!!!
Buncha "indians" played by a bunch of Jewish middle-aged borsht-belt comedians in brown make-up. I fucking love it.
Larry Storch was actually closer to being a cavalry officer than those guys were to being native americans....
I loved that show.
And wasn't Melody Paterson 16 when the show started? Borscht Belt Indians and perversion. Now you have to go to the Disney Channel for that stuff.
What will Warren supporters wear? (Obvious, but needed sayin')
Blinders
Rose colored glasses. And obviously a Che t-shirt.
"Rose colored glasses"
So EVERYONE'S Native American now, huh?
Do they have a lot of Injuns in Madison, or something? Complaints? Or is this just a bunch of proggies assuring themselves that they are the right kinds of people?
And we have a winner? But where're the FUQAWIS?!?!?!
They hav a lot of "prigressives" in Madison. U of W is there. Not sure why they hate Badgers so much.
They can hate badgers all day long - Honey Badger doesn't care.
They do have a lot of native americans in Wisconsin. Mostly the Ojibwe I think. I know that the Ojibwe are spread across WI and MN for the most part. They were pushed out of IL and in turn pushed the Sioux out of MN and into the Dakotas.
And Chippewa.
Wisconsin is full of Indians.
White man's burden.
Here's a fun use of statistics by our friends in blue
Holy math fail, batman!
So why are they trying to erase every trace of Indians from our culture. Is it just me or does trying to erase every mention of a specific race of people from the culture seem a bit racist?
brilliant, henceforth when I encounter mascot-banners I'm gonna agree wholeheartedly with them, but make it evident that I just hate those red-skinned savages.
All that will remain will be a whiff of Zinn and a Toad the Wet Sprocket song...
That's correct, Swiss:
"And half and hour later we packed up our things
We said we'd send letters and all those little things
And they knew we were lying but they smiled just the same
It seemed they'd already forgotten we'd came"
This was my thought. Erase them from memory and then eminent domain the reservations? I couldn't think of a better way to destroy what's left of the Native American culture.
Kill the Indian, save the man.
He is kind of a mixed bag. He thought native Americans could be "real people", but at the same time has no respect for their way of life. I will choose to hate him because he might have killed my uncle at the battle of chickamauga.
How old are you?
Quiet. Most people don't know I'm nosferatu. Also he was a great-great-great uncle.
I had family at Chicamauga, including relatives who were in a house near the battlefield. We have an old pewter tray with a minie ball hole in it from the battle (they abandoned the house during the battle, of course).
That's neat. I need to read up on the battle more.
Minie ball sure.
I think that it is far more likely that you have your ancestral glory hole that your relatives ran for the passing troops.
I was thinking the same thing. What would the reaction be if they went with all-European mascots when humans are used? Better. . .or worse?
Only Patriots allowed
Like the Vikings. Spartans and Trojans?
You know who else tried to erase a specific race of people from their culture?
The proggies secret hero.
Jesus, white people are patronizing in their social justice racism.
Hey, when a race makes it to the nineteenth century without mastering common language, written history, gun powder; who missed the bronze age, iron age, and couldn't even master the fucking wheel, that's a culture that needs all the help it can get, patronizing or not.
But....the narrative tells me they were peaceful and never warred with other!
each
I'm not going to sugarcoat it... A few relevant details may of been "glossed over". Never let the truth get in the way of a great story...
I like to think it's possible to have a healthy disdain for silly political correctness without becoming a full-blown white supremacist. You can think it's stupid to ban depictions of American Indians as team mascots without condemning entire cultures, particularly when, as in your case, you don't seem to know much about them or have much interest in learning.
I ran across someone yesterday on the intertubes who was asking a rhetorical question about our fed govt being upset at the Washington Redskins even though the fed govt, in the form of the military has a few problematic names for its aircraft:
Apache
Black Hawk
Chinook
Comanchee
Tomahawk
Redskins is a pejorative, where those are the names of tribes or in the last case a type of hatchet.
Yes, but I've read complaints over the military's penchant for naming weapons and vehicles after American Indian stuff. The argument is something, something, stereotype of savagery, something, something, the U.S. Calvary is complicit in genocide of said people, something something.
Except for the fact that that is how they referred to THEMSELVES to differentiate from the "white eyes" and the "white men". AS "red skinned" and as "red men".
Hope that didn't trigger you, fag...
Not if you're a potato.
Technically Chinook could be named after the river.
As a male who was born and then grew up to be an overweight man, I find the nicknames given to atomic bombs offensive.
Don't get my wife started on 'Minuteman'
Not that there's anything wrong with that, Enola
Now, if you're just happen to BE Indian and want to, in some manner, celebrate your heritage - yea, that's not happing savage:
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015.....e-feather/
Mahnomen, MN got a special exemption from Minnesoda's ban on native american team nicknames because they were actual indians and they wanted to keep their name "Mahnomen Indians"

What the hell is wrong with people?
students may not "wear clothing with words, pictures, or caricatures based on negative stereotypes of a specific gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexual orientation or disability"
*** rising intonation ***
What about POSITIVE stereotypes?
I was thinking more this.
+1 Ol' Man Reebah
No. Only orange jumpsuits, devoid of any pictures or lettering other than student id number..
And the school song should be this.
That's brilliant, which high school is that? Not to sound racist, but I suspect it's an inner city school from some larger metropolitan area.. because it appeared rather Spartan.. and underfunded. The tattoos were rather progressive.. we should promote more free expression.. in moderation, of course.
Relative to other schools, maybe. But underfunded public school in the US in real terms doesn't exist.
Why do you hate the children, straffinrun?
Public schools *must* be underfunded! Just look at the results!
I've read that student achievement is more closely correlated with how close your state capitol is to Canada, than it is with dollars spent per student.
So, obviously, moving your state capitol to the north (or east, for Hawaii and Alaska) is the most cost effective way to boost student achievement.
Science, m-f-er! Do you speak it?
Juneau is about as close to Canada as it gets... I think Alaska's topped out
AHHHHOOOOOOGAHHHHH!!
"you don't think of us as 562 federally recognized tribes"
With all due respect, doesn't the "federally recognized" part diminish your argument somewhat?
"If the state bans speech that is offensive to some, where does it stop?" Walker wrote in a letter to tribal leaders.
A slippery slope pathway, indeed:
Minneapolis Muslims prefer Sharia, want blasphemy laws in US
They can have all the blasphemy laws the want -- in the middle east. But apparently they enjoy flush toilets, cars, and HBO even more than they do strict religious rules.
Assurances from the government have never been revoked in the past.
It depends on what the meaning of "take care of" is.
I'll take care of you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!
"My pretty"?!
SEXIST! and, um, LOOKIST!
God, that photo is 150 years old. Imagine, today, if the USA were fighting tribes that had somehow gotten hold of its own weapons.
It wasn't that long ago that it happened.
[Turns toward camera, single tear streaming down face]
I was waiting for a reference to Iron Eyes Cody to come up.
"The beautiful Trail of Tears Golf Course!"
With squaws handing out beers at each tee.
What if I want to be Running Bear ?
The bigger question is... Will the school children still be allowed to gambol?
It's part of the common core curriculum at agrarian city state district schools, but a signed waiver will be required..
Only on riverboats, for some reason...
If anybody in Madison can tell with a straight face that Bernie the fucking Brewer isn't one of the most egregious cultural stereotypes out there I won't criticize this decision.
Typical. Government passes rules that the people must follow but the government exempts itself from.
