The Microaggressions of Chick-Fil-A: Johns Hopkins Students Drop Forks, Grab Pitchforks
Student government resolution opposes allowing the restaurant on campus.

Some Johns Hopkins University students are dead-set against having a Chick-fil-A location on campus, for a familiar reason: the fast-food chain's history of support for traditional marriage amounts to "microaggression."
And yes, the JHU student-government resolution condemning Chick-fil-A actually uses that word:
WHEREAS visiting prospective and current students, staff, faculty, and other visitors who are members of the LGBTQ+ community or are allies would be subjected to the microaggression of supporting current or future Chick-fil-A development plans…
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the SGA does not support the proposal of a Chick-fil-A, in a current or future sense, particularly on any location that is central to student life.
Nevermind that Chick-fil-A ceased most of its anti-gay political and financial activity years ago, when CEO Dan Cathy was first criticized for his views. Nevermind that this resolution carries no actual power.
Must every single facet of life be reduced to politics—even the consumption of fried chicken?
It's true that Cathy's personal views on gay marriage are regrettable, and it's also true that he invited some measure of blowback when he waded into the culture wars (like it or not)—but he corrected that error long ago. Now the students are guilty of the same thing that made them so mad at Chick-fil-A in the first person: mixing business and politics.
Also vexing is the students' contention that Chick-fil-A's presence would be an act of "microaggression" against gay people. Much like the students at Oberlin College who feared for their physical safety when confronted by a different perspective, JHU's student leaders seem to believe that they deserve insulation from offensiveness and imaginary danger.
This is not a recipe for a healthy campus climate.

Fried chicken banned from campus, minorities hardest hit!
Right, guys?
Why is everyone edging nervously away from me?
There is nothing better than good fried chicken. I'm not talking chick-filet. Good down home moist crispy whole chicken pieces. Oh, and watermelon is my favorite fruit hands down:) IT's true
Oh, I love both.
JHU's student leaders seem to believe that they deserve insulation from offensiveness and imaginary danger.
What a bunch of chickens.
so mad at Chick-fil-A in the first person: mixing business and politics.
Did Chick-fil-A mix business w/ politics or did other people mix Chick-fil-A w./ politics?
So basically, you guys won the Culture War, stop shooting the prisoners? Not how mobs work.
No, that didn't make them mad. CEO having Wrong Views made them mad, and this is perfectly consistent with their attitude.
"So basically, you guys won the Culture War, stop shooting the prisoners? "
"Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power."
? George Orwell, 1984
Demands expand until resistance is evoked, so that the resistance can be overcome. The purpose of the Culture War is War, it's the delicious thrill of bending over your enemies and fucking them again and again and again.
Yes, a group or people at a private organization expressing their opinion about something in a way that doesn't even prevent the target from actually doing anything.
It's just like 1984. Who can forget the climactic sene where O'Brien gave Winston Smith the stink eye while passing him in the hallway at work?
"a group or people at a private organization expressing their opinion about something in a way that doesn't even prevent the target from actually doing anything"
Correct.
Meanwhile, a Reason writer notes that the other guy's "personal views ... are regrettable... but he corrected (the) error" he made in expressing them. A Reason writer.
.....
they had the same bs thing on san jose state a few years ago.
oh and my friend won't go to any carls junior or chick-fil-A because Gay Marriage
Seriously how do you deal with these people?
The same as people who won't buy music or concert tickets from Tim McGraw because he was going to play that Sandy Hook concert?
I hate Tim McGraw because he bought a swim park on a lake I use to go to and shut it down. Seriously, he's never ever there. Bastard.
Why'd he buy it?
It's his private get away I guess. Really it's his business but it was a place we went as kids so he stepped on my nostalgia's face.
He bought a water park as his private get away? That is more than a bit much.
It was actually 2 water parks right next to each other. Kingsley and Stricklands. He tore down all the slides and docks and now it is one long beach. I still go to the lake sometimes when I visit my parents. I can't blame the guy. If I could afford it I would have bought them, but kept the slides.
I couldn't see buying a beloved water park and tearing it down for my personal use. I could see buying it, operating and maybe closing it down on the few days I might want it for personal use.
FM: I have some travel coming up. Best Orlando Hotels? I like to go down waterslides, even if it's a business trip.
Gaylord Palms. Bar none my favorite hotel in Orlando. It's a business hotel and it has water slides.
Don't forget your floaties.

Gaylords seems to be the consensus
The name is perfect for you.
Am I trolling you?
Are you calling him a large box?
Fucking Uline. They have EVERYTHING.
Liz is actually the MONEYPOWER!!1! behind the election, the Kochs are a smoke screen.
All hail the Box Lady, sheeple!
Gaylords is really nice. Grand bohemian is too if you want to be in downtown. All the Disney resorts have awesome pools for guest use only. Honestly I don't go to too many hotels because I have a house here and guest stay with me.
As long as I get to expense a Ribeye at Ming Court.
If I didn't have a paranoid wife you could stay with me and use my pool.
Don't fall for this, Pl?ya Manhattan! He just wants to feed you to a python!
Quite you!
*slaps SD*
Ugh. Quiet.
*slap SD again.
How I introduced Jesse to my wife:
"This is my gay friend from the Internet!"
My wife was afraid to use Uber because she said they would pose as a driver to kill us and sell our organs. I'm sure telling her an Internet stranger is coming to stay a while wouldn't thrill her.
It would have been hilarious if you dressed him up like the Gimp in 'Pulp Fiction'.
Ming Court.
Eat there soon. You're welcome.
Now that's some menu.
Love hot and sour soup. Tomorrow night we're eating out. It's between Schezwan and Vietnamese. The only Korean spot is downtown and that's too far for me.
Vietnamese is for lunch.
My favorite Szechuan place closed 5 years ago. Their menu didn't translate, but no matter what you ordered, it was good. I've been chasing the dragon ever since.
Ming Court is better than anything I've had in CA in the last 5 years. I ended up going back 3 times in one week. No regrets.
The Viet dive right near my house is outstanding. Problem is it's a little too pricey for the quantity. But I still go often enough. My daughter enjoys it so...win.
My local Vietnamese place has really good Ga Ro Ti. But I can eat a game hen for an appetizer.
As a lover of delicious Chic-Fil-A who does feel some guilt whenever I eat there, I'd consider it a major micro-aggression by these people preventing me from eating that delicious food. It's very offensive that they force their views and prevent such evil, delicious chicken
Saying you don't want the school you do business with to have the restaurant on grounds is not 'preventing' anyone from eating there. You can go to another location or ask the school to ignore the resolution.
"Saying you don't want the school you do business with to have the restaurant on grounds is not 'preventing' anyone from eating there."
Satire is lost on you I see
Especially when it's poorly done!
But don't apply this logic to a bakery. No sir, you will bake that cake and you will do it with a smile.
A major micro-aggression? As silly as jumbo shrimp!
I have no idea what it's like nationwide, but in MD, the Chik-Fil-A franchises tended to be owned by African-American evangelicals.
is there a list somewhere of restaurants sjw's won't go to? asking for a friend.
I googled restaurants you should boycott and here's two top hits, one by leftists the other by gun rights activist. What I thought was funny was that some, like Waffle House, were on both.

http://samuel-warde.com/2014/1.....o-boycott/
What about Popeyes?
http://www.usatoday.com/story/...../26224037/
I just ate at Popeye's for the first time a few weeks ago. Wasn't all that impressed. My expectations weren't all that high to begin with but was hoping it would be better than it was.
What do you people think of Zaxby's?
Zaxby's is hit and miss. Love the fries and Zax sauce.
Not in Ohio. I'll have to try them next time I head south.
Yes, Little Nicky really ruined Popeyes for me in a related way.
It use to be better. It's really gone down hill.
I've always preferred Bojangles. Do they have them in Yankee states?
IDK. They have them here.
Don't appear to be north of KY. Looks like there is one on the way to a cabin we like to stay at on the KY/TN border I can check out.
http://samuel-warde.com/2014/1.....o-boycott/
(Also, if they're really serious about boycotting they'll have to avoid most consumer electronics, as the Koch's own Molex)
Just noticed Bo Cara's comment, sorry about the duplicate link.
I thought it was hilarious that while they note the Koch's own many businesses they single out Angel Soft toilet paper for the boycott.
Dixie was a no-brainer though, even if they weren't a Koch subsidiary.
"Must every single facet of life be reduced to politics?even the consumption of fried chicken?"
That's why they call it TOTALitarianism.
Ahhhhhhhhh.
I couldn't decide what to have for dinner, but now my mind is made up.
Seeing as how I'll be at the airport anyway, In N Out it is. I hope those bible verses on the bottoms of the cups don't convert me accidentally.
Oh, and nice work ignoring the troll, people. The sauce is really weak and transparent tonight.
Talk about weak...
You're phoning it it. Contrarian-lite.
What's with the change in style?
You say that every time you comment on me here PM. At least you're predictable in working out your obsessions.
For the longest time I had him unfiltered and for the life of me I can't remember why.
Because for the longest time you weren't afraid or upset by words?
He needed a dance partner, but you got really sloppy.
I get that some people feel the need to be insulated from offensiveness...
As someone who went to Hopkins, it's actually kind of shocking seeing even this level of political bullshit. Scruffy Nerfherder and I went there at almost exactly the same time, and we've both remarked about how apolitical the campus was (people at Hopkins were far to busy competing for grades and fucking each other over to worry about bullshit politics). I can't even remember anyone even thinking about the student government, or anyone campaigning for it, and especially ever talking about it for any reason. So, so stupid, but it's an indication of how pervasive this idiotic SJW bullshit is.
And besides, the Terror Room didn't serve fast food back then anyway.
I'd bet the vast majority of the student body there has little to no idea or care what resolutions the student government are up to. This made the need not because it's reflective of something pervasive at the college but because it resonated with outside media involved in the culture wars, that'd be my wager.
Proof that the SJW virus is spreading. Hopkins today, boardrooms tomorrow.
Tomorrow?
There was a discussion in these threads about this not too long ago about the SJW mentality finding its way into the business world (of which Epi was a participant).
I guess - sigh - it's arrived.
I was at Hopkins several years after you two. I don't remember any political shit either. But Bo might be right, that this is just the vocal minority that makes up the student government.
I've heard from people who have gone much more recently that even Hopkins has succumbed to a fair level of political bullshit that would seem alien to us older attendees. I can't confirm it personally, but it wouldn't surprise me considering there wasn't this much political bullshit even at the known political bullshit colleges back then.
I'm sure most of the students still don't give a shit, but the difference is that no one would have even bothered with something this stupid back then, whereas now it seems someone will.
Probably International Relations students anyway. (BOO HISS)
I went to Berkeley. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
A state school?
(sneers)
*points to scoreboard*
Although you seem to have wormed your way up the rankings in 2015.
Humboldt State sucka!
I don't know why I said that...
WAAAAHHHHH!!!! Why does everyone insist on reacting politically to me politicizing my company?
+1
Did you miss the part where he stopped donating to anti-gay marriage causes?
"most" != all
The students of Johns Hopkins should be required to purchase food from Chick-fil-A. After all, who are they to discriminate against the owner of an establishment because they don't like his religious views. That's his personal business. It's only a stand against intolerance to compel them to engage in transactions with the company, regardless of what their bigoted prejudices against the firm's owners are.
If ones perceived sense of being cute were currency you'd be a very rich man, Bill.
Fuck off, Bo. No one cares what you think.
That's a lot less cute there Bill.
The only thing regrettable about the opinion is that Chick Fil-A's officer was that government had ANY business in marriage. But if we are going to have the heavy claw of Leviathan involved in marriage, then it makes sense that religious views are respected.
(and it's grilled, not fried)
This was not micro-aggression, it was real aggression: http://www.bizjournals.com/atl.....-food.html And note he is now sponging off the taxpayer.
Not entirely off topic, the local coop that took over the once great Jean-Talon market (where my father made his bones as a tailor and has owned a building since 1967), and proceeded to ruin it (because they're a bunch of dumbass parasites muscling in on the profits of venders) are fighting the opening of a Starbucks - FYI Starbucks managed to displace a very good pizzeria unfortunately but that's not the point.
The point is the coop claims the usual left-wing crap about ruining the 'charm' and 'culture' of the local market (which was already dead anyway) and that it would ruin local coffee shops. There are exactly four worth anything - two are French and the others Italian with Cafe Italia ruling everything.
So a reporter asked local shop owners what they thought the and answers were surprising. They basically said it's good and that it's not their place to prevent businesses from opening because it's a free market.
The coop are doing the usual speaking on people's behalf where it's not asked.
"the local coop"
chicken coop?
I was too lazy to add a hyphen.
I was just thinking that I never hear these kinds of stories coming out of MIT. I guess they're to busy being smart. I'm sure they have their moments.
Like Jonathan Gruber smart?
You can be smart and still be an asshole or a criminal for that matter. Wasn't real bright allowing himself to be video'd admitting to be a shithead. Video is the best.
Was he a student there, or just a professor?
Noam Chomsky is worth like 10,000 SJW undergrads.
MIT is as full of this kind of shit as any other place, don't worry.
Oh well, guess there is no escaping the derp.
MIT is as full of this kind of shit as any other place, don't worry.
The Chick-Fil-A in my town is located right in front of the Hobby Lobby. I guess it's zoned as a Christian Conservative business district.
Any bakers who won't cater to gays there too?
Why did Cypress Creek just cross my mind?
Just you wait. One day in the near future, the owner of some other restaurant chain is going to be asked for his views on gay marriage. He will reply to the effect of, "I'd prefer not to comment on anyone's preferences or lifestyles. We're here to serve the everyone."
This will be ironclad proof that the man is a raging homophobe.
Well people went off on Coach K for not offering an opinion on Indiana's law.
They're trying to trap people.
serve the everyone
Anybody want this snazzy screenname?
American College students well on their way to becoming Eloi.
ROFL.
OT, but SJW-related: Dumb bitch (from Oberlin, OH, natch) gets turned down for a job for showing up to an interview dressed in her best clubbing outfit, and consumes a bucket of sour grapes in response:
http://thelibertarianrepublic......l-clothes/
I love Julie.
Dibs
Well, some people are going to learn there's a price to be paid, hitching your cart to someone else's wagon.
There's not really any reason the 'TQ+' part of the 'LGBTQ+' community should care about this particular issue.
As a side note - is there some *point* to student body 'government'? What would they actually do for the average student that is worth even paying a second of attention to this shit?
Supposedly, it's to polish their resumes, but it could backfire if you're caught doing something dumb.
At my college, the student government people were always impeaching each other.
I couldn't give a shit about Chick-fil-a one way or the other. But this "microaggression" shit is just plain pathetic. Are these really the "leaders of tomorrow"? They can't handle the fact that some CEO who they don't know personally and who has zero power over them has a different opinion about politics.
Jesus Crackers, practically everybody I know--including people I count my closest friends--disagree with some part of my political viewpoint. Are they all "microaggressing" me? Or am I "microaggressing" them? It's incoherent gibberish.
