Only 1 in 4 Americans Trust the Federal Government 'Most of the Time'
That seems high, to be honest
Americans' hate affair with the clowns on the Potomac continues, asthe Pew Reasearch Center reports that fewer than one in four Americans trust the federal government "most of the time." State government gets slightly better marks, and local governments score better still. This is likely further support for the ancient maxim, "that official governs best who lives within pitching distance of a fist-sized rock." I think Lao Tzu said that. Or maybe Daniel Patrick Moynihan. But people certainly seem to be happier with government when they know where the politicians live and can get to their front porches with no more than a buck or two of gas.
Three percent still trust the feds "just about always"? Really?
The Pew results come buried in a larger survey about people's perceptions on the value of open government andmaking data available. People generally favor increasing openness—though more as a means of allowing the public and journalists to scrutinize what officials are up to than out of any hope that it will improve the quality of decision-making. Only a minority think that services and officials' judgment will benefit as a result, but a majority sees improvements in terms of accountability and access by journalists.
There's that trust thing again, I think.
Trust in government has been circling the drain for years. Pew pegged it at 24 percent last fall, virtually identical to the latest figure. Other sources produce similar results, and find that disdain for D.C. is something that unites blue and red states.

I trust the government...to give everyone a good rogering.
I trust the government as much as I trust the Oberlin safe space wenches.
Which one would you rather get screwed by?
Myself, since I don't know any of their chosen genders, probably wouldn't understand them, and certainly wouldn't know what to do with them and all the damned active positive consent forms.
That number seems high to me.
You have to remember than about a quarter of people asked describe themselves as liberal. I see the questions as identical.
"But people certainly seem to be happier with government when they know where the politicians live and can get to their front porches with no more than a buck or two of gas."
That, but also I imagine because people self select to some degree to live near like minded people who elect people that agree with them.
And local issues affect people more directly. I.e. everyone who lives near the giant tree that fell in the middle of the road thinks someone should do something about it. The same can't be said of the FDA deciding that people aren't smart enough to make their own medical decisions.
But I though gerrymandering by the Koch-funded repuglicans meant that doesn't matter anymore and that blacks are still prevented from representation.
That's what [insert name at MSNBC, HuffPo, CNN, TDB, The Atlantic, Salon] told me.
Well, gerrymanders that take little notice of natural communities does kind of undercut that.
Gerrymandering is bipartisan.
But more to the point, it would be unnecessary if our representation was in line with the ratio our founders established.
Wouldn't it be great if instead Gerry mandolined?
How can you trust something "some of the time"? Does that mean you trust them on particular issues, but not on others? Either they have earned your trust or they haven't. There is no in between.
Furthermore, what if I just about always trust the government to do the wrong thing? How do I answer then? I don't have to agree with someone to trust that I can anticipate how they will behave in any given situation.
BS poll is BS. 3-4% of Americans trust the government. 96-97% don't.
It means I trust em when the right heroes of mine have total control!
I trust the government to fuck me without lube.
I do not trust the government to be good stewards of my tax dollars.
There you go.
Where do I sign up for "I trust the government none of the time"?
In any democratic government it should be impossible to trust the government 100% of the time, simply because the government has to accommodate many other viewpoints that may contradict promises made to you. And if you can't trust something 100%, it may as well be unworthy of any trust at all.
Why anyone would say they can trust the government to act in the citizen's best.interest is beyond me.
I would assert that anyone who isn't an anarchist trusts the government at least some of the time--or, at least, trusts government more than they'd trust some other entity.
Which is one of the many reasons I'm an anarchist.
At the reeducation camp, you terrorist sympathizer.
How can he sympathize with the terrorists if he trusts them "none of the time"?
Is it racist/lacist to misread that as "crowns on the Potomac"?
What's amazing is that considering local, state, and federal governments spend $8T out of a GDP of $18T, so few people trust their employers.
Food for thought .....
Yeah, if you need more than a quart of accelerant, you're doing something wrong.
+1 pyre of Justice
The bulk of these people are sheeple at heart. Nothing more...nothing less.
"Only 1 in 4...." I think this is a good reminder. How can 1/4 of people trust the government all the time? Those people probably vote. Just remember that.

Only 3% or so trust the government all the time -- I'm guessing these people ARE the government.
It's 1 in 4 trusting more often than not.
1 in 4 Americans are also retarded.
I trust them to exercise the libido-restraint of Warty, anywhere, anytime.
I trust them to defe.....BWAHAHAHAHAHA.
Sorry, guys. I just could t keep a straight face any longer.
Trust the government? Anybody that trusts this government, or the last one, or the one before that is a fucking retard.
