Updated [X 2!]: University of Michigan Cancels Showing of American Sniper Due to Student Protest; Shows Paddington Instead
Updated [April 9]! University administrators now say American Sniper will run tonight as originally planned. So will Paddington (whew). Details here.
Updated [April 8]! Replacement movie added below.
The University of Michigan's Center for Campus Involvement canceled a showing of American Sniper after 300 students protested, saying the film
not only tolerates but promotes anti-Muslim…rhetoric and sympathizes with a mass killer. Chris Kyle was a racist who took a disturbing stance on murdering Iraqi civilians…watching this movie is provocative and unsafe to…Muslim students who are too often reminded of how little the media and world values their lives.
This is (or was, anyway) a college, right, where learning and uncomfortable ideas are occassionally encountered?
At least the proactively offended students at least made a gesture toward intellectual freedom and free speech:
Although we respect the right to freedom of speech, we believe that with this right comes responsibility: responsibility of action, intention, and outcome….?
As U of M students, we ask you to please reconsider showing this movie in order to be a welcoming place to students of all backgrounds, ethnicities and religions. The University of Michigan should not participate in further perpetuating these negative and misleading stereotypes.
An immediate question arises: Why do the signatories assume that the audience will simply absorb whatever is presumed to be the offensive message of the movie's producers? The assumption that the audience is a lump, or a blank screen upon which an agenda in projected, goes unstated but is wrong and offensive. Audiences have minds of their own. For starters, wouldn't it be more interesting and effective to push for a viewing and a discussion of the film's apparent intentions and the audience's responses?
University officials confessed to their thought errors across social media, reports The College Fix.
"While our intent was to show a film, the impact of the content was harmful, and made students feel unsafe and unwelcomed at our program," stated The Center for Campus Involvement, which oversees student activities and is run by university employees, as it announced its decision Tuesday on its various social media accounts, including Twitter and Facebook.
"We deeply regret causing harm to members of our community, and appreciate the thoughtful feedback provided to us by students and staff alike."
Let's leave aside whether American Sniper actually foments anti-Muslim sentiments or actions (Read Kurt Loder on its anti-war message and Charles Paul Freund on Iraqi audience responses here).
The idea that a college is an unfit arena in which to show a lauded and successful—if controversial—movie is mind-boggling to say the least. The urge to excise any sort of negative energy, thought, or feeling in and out of classrooms on campuses is widely and appallingly documented. But this latest petty capitulation on the part of feckless administrators to student demands for the ideological bubble-wrapping of education makes some of us remember when college was supposed to be a place to have conversations not stop them before they begin.
Update: I neglected to mention that American Sniper was replaced with Paddington.
@Mashon45 Paddington will be shown instead.
— Campus Involvement (@UMInvolvement) April 7, 2015
Updated April 9: Now comes news that, no, no, the university—generally regarded as one an outstanding academic institution—will now show American Sniper as planned. Via Foxnews.com:
University Vice President for Student Life E. Royster Harper called the decision to cancel the Friday night showing a "mistake" in a statement.
"The initial decision to cancel the movie was not consistent with the high value the University of Michigan places on freedom of expression and our respect for the right of students to make their own choices in such matters," Harper said. "The movie will be shown at the originally scheduled time and location."
And for all the students who wanted to see Paddington? They too will be made whole:
Harper added that the university will also screen the family-friendly film "Paddington" as an alternative.

I really worry about these kids when they go into the real world. They can't all end up in protected government or academic positions, after all.
We seem to be headed in that direction.
I've had several 18-25 year olds as clients, they have all been awful for two major reasons: they refuse to acknowledge that the world does not revolve around them and that their actions do in fact have consequences in the real world.
Your parents said the same fucking thing about you, gramps.
"they refuse to acknowledge that the world does not revolve around them and that their actions do in fact have consequences in the real world."
Young people acting like young people. What is this world coming to?
"I really worry about these kids..."
Seems you are not alone. The editors of Reason seem even more worried about kids and what they get up to at school. For whatever Reason, this is one band wagon I'm not going to join. The issue is not worrying or even interesting to me.
Just a quick reminder though, literally nobody gives a flying fuck what you think because you're a delusional, paranoid conspiracy theorist.
You want to worry yourself over these kids? Go ahead. It's the sane and unconspiratorial thing to do. And letting others do your thinking for you is always the easy choice.
"They can't all end up in protected government or academic positions, after all."
There's always disability, and they are disabled.
Then they better BUY disability insurance.
Watching a movie makes them unsafe. Do they know people might be watching it in the privacy of their dorm rooms???
Although we respect the right to freedom of speech,
Everything after the comma is always BS.
I tend to think that everything before the comma is BS.
The comma indicates the entire statement is BS.
I believe showing a movie is a positive expression, and not showing it would not be censorship but a preference for not making that particular positive expression. The movie was probably intended to entertain rather than instruct, so if people were going to fight over it, the movie-showing office would reasonably regard its entertainment potential as vitiated by conflict. I am pretty sure anyone who wants to watch the movie at UM will be able to do so.
I agree that a good opportunity for instruction through analysis and deconstruction was missed, but instruction does not seem to have been the purpose.
300 students
Sounds more like Michigan State
Madness? This...is....MICHIGAN!
i got your 300 Spartans reference...well played.
nice.
spartans are more about rioting and burning couches after watching events at their coliseums.
Ann arbor is a san fran infection inside the state of michigan. It's not a gory wound like Detroit or Flint but it still has side effects like delusional thinking.
Hail to the victors valiant! Hahahahaha!
They should have shown Gran Torino instead.
+1
Clint said zipper heads, I didn't even know about that slur til that movie. He shows a side of "old racist white guys" that people rarely see...that they are human and can treat others as human. Wish more people would be cognitive of the fact that we are all...human, for better or worse. Til death do us part.
This is really getting ridiculous.
Are we going to ban showing 'Triumph of the Will' in film studies classes because it's a piece of facist war propaganda?
I mean, in MY day, 'Triumph of the Will' would be screened at the Hillel center followed by a discussion of the holocaust, the nature of propganda, and a deconstructive analysis of the film. People would be encouraged to watch the film, and then explain all the ways in which while technically great, it was art in the service of evil.
These days, it seems like what would happen is that a group of students would complain that seeing the film in film studies class was triggering, and demand it be removed from the curriculum.
That's right. Why not have a discussion afterward? It's a university!
We can't have any inquiry going on here, this is a University.
18-21 year olds are much more immature than we were. I graduated HS in 1979 and couldn't wait to throw off the shackles of immaturity and make my way in the world. And the world didn't coddle us.
But we protect our precious flowers now because we know how tough it was for us. I'm guilty of it now.
It was?
I actually think it's a good thing to be protected, to an extent. I always feel uncomfortable about this topic because I have one of the most "coddled/privileged" upbringings one could possibly have, but at some point I believe that reality will hit everybody, and my hope is that my generation has enough of a brain and a drive to make it through when it comes. Mine came in my early 20s when I had to work and pay for part-time classes before I could go to school full-time. I know it's a high floor compared to some people, but I was lucky and proud to have a family that valued education and still tried to keep me grounded and responsible. Maybe that's why my ideals are so libertarian even when my "adulthood" is a bit late, and I can still laugh at how infantilized some students are about speech, ideas, and topics that they don't like.
"These days, it seems like what would happen is that a group of students would complain that seeing the film in film studies class was triggering"
Calm down, it's only another attempt by Reason to whip up a moral panic over these young people. Don't let yourself get sucked in so easily.
The idea of there being a "ban" is silly. Whatever they show, it's the same thing as if everything else is banned. If you give gov't the job of showing films for students to study, don't blame them if their choice doesn't match your idea.
Would the 300 of Michigan lodge the same protest if the University offered everyone the opportunity to watch some delightfully tolerant ISIS or Al-Qaeda recruitment videos?
I think you have to watch those to get into the cafeteria now.
I'm sure they could find some un-edited beheading videos for a "compare and contrast" discussion.
I suppose if someone wants to show Saving Private Ryan, these same people should protest it for being an anti-German movie, or something...
What about Shaving Ryan's Privates?
"At the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Vilmer ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum ? it's breathtaking ... I suggest you try it."
Orally?
Did your father claim to invent the question mark?
I have encountered people who would probably do that. Because it makes young Germans feel bad.
I've also heard people say that it is mean to refer to the primary European enemy in WWII simply as "Germany" without "Nazi" added on because it's not fair or nice. I guess the Nazis were aliens from outer space or something.
"Although we respect the right to freedom of speech, we believe that with this right comes responsibility..."
Wrong! That would not be a right but a privilege.
Not entirely true -- you are legally responsible for the material consequences of your speech. If you make a claim which turns out to be false, you can be sued. If you stir up a riot, you can be charged. If you tell a hitman you will give him money if he kills someone, you can be charged whether you actually pay him or not, or for that matter even if (as is likely) he is an undercover FBI agent and no killing occurs.
That's not free speech. The entire point of free speech is to offend. Every great idea has offended somebody. The idea that the earth was round offended people. No matter how ridiculous the speech is, you can not be charged. Now if you yell fire in a movie theatre, that becomes a property right and not freedom of speech. Would kick you out if you did that. You can not come onto my property and say whatever the hell you want. You can however, on yours.
And the Hitsman example was just strange. Freedom of speech is the freedom of ideas. Murder is in no way an idea that can be connected with rights. They are exact opposites. Murder violates those rights.
You can "get charged" and "get sued" for no reason at all, so your statements are irrelevant.
Perhaps you mean that certain speech acts (like libel or incitement to violence) can result in civil or criminal penalties. If you think that that constitutes a limit on free speech, I suggest you do some background research to understand why it doesn't.
"An immediate question arises: Why do the signatories assume that the audience will simply absorb whatever is presumed to be the offensive message of the movie's producers?"
Um yes, hence the fear of advertising and the freakout over "money in politics"
Unbelievable. Why limit yerself culturally and intellectually?
Moreover, why celebrate and wallow in your weakness? Confronting your fears and beating them down is the only way to get over them. Seems they don't want to; pissing their pants and pushing the scary things away infantilizes you for life.
Especially when it is about religion. If you can't defend your religion against common criticisms, maybe you need to examine your own beliefs rather than silencing everyone else.
I THINK U NEED TO EXAMINE UR OWN BELIEVES YOU BIGOT!
I believe that you need to shut up and stop othering me.
Upset about people with education getting ahead in life, aren't we? Well just remember, pal - your doctor and your dentist went to universities.
"Why limit yerself culturally and intellectually?"
The point of the protest was to limit what *others* could watch.
Ann Arbor is a whore.
Ann Arbor is a whore.
So did they not watch the movie, or does the guy who got his family butchered not count because they view him as some kind of "uncle tom"?
Maybe if the movie had alt-text...
Maybe they just read the reviews on Reason?
Or Mustafa (the foreign sniper) sitting with his family before going out.
What happens when you teach kids to bed dumbfucks with no critical thinking skills?
You have to worry that anything they watch will be absorbed and taken as truth.
*BE dumbfucks. The bedding obviously comes later in the dorm rape room.
Well, if you teach kids to bed said dumbfucks, it seems like it could be a runaway eugenics problem.
The last thing we need right now is a dumbfuck population explosion. Dumbfuckery may be recessive, but you know what happens when people with blue eyes have kids.
Idiocracy?
I was gonna say, isn't part of college seeing how many dumbfucks you can bed?
So if someone claims that Milk or An Inconvenient Truth or Rockey Horror Picture Show make them feel unsafe or unwelcome, the university will refuse to show it?
Sure. Milk promotes killing gay guys, An Inconvenient Truth isn't alarmist enough and Rocky Horror encourages straight people to appropriate queer culture.
If the University apparatchiks want to ban the showing, they use the excuse of a protest to ban it, after they've arranged the protest.
These college students are the useful idiots of the endowed apparatchiks.
we ask you to please reconsider showing this movie in order to be a welcoming place to students of all backgrounds, ethnicities and religions
Doesn't seem like it would make it a very welcoming place for students who have military backgrounds.
They don't count. They're probably white hicks, anyway, because that's what the left now associates the military. This is compared to the past when they claimed the military consisted of 'poor minorities' duped into fighting by rich dudes, evidence be damned.
"You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."
-- John Kerry
Per the Progressive Theocracy, the military is where the stupid and lazy "get stuck".
Good one, Zeb. Everyone knows the smart kids go to college and the dumb kids go to the military.
Military students *guffaw*
What should have happened is that campus security should have rounded up all 300 of them, handed them a refund of tuition, and booted them off campus. If you object to free speech, there are a number of liberal colleges that will be happy to fill your minds with enough fluff for you to qualify at any fast food operation.
I love that they replaced it with a PG rated children's movie. Excellent statement.
It struck me the same way.
I have a 7-yr.-old who would've taken it as an insult and a 6-yr.-old that would've been cool with the change, so it was really easy to draw a bead on the projection and/or mentality.
And by struck me, I mean made me sad that my 7-yr.-old is more adult than a college student and proud that he's already exceeding the expectations of administrators.
Exactly! I actually had to google the movie to see if it was about Paddington Bear or something else. Kudos to whoever chose that alternative.
IMDB has it as a 1976 original & 2004 remake about a traveling bear from Peru. Looks somewhat scary.
I only hope they took it as the "fuck you" it was meant to be.
Agreed. Someone who was unhappy with the students bitching obviously did this to show how childish it is.
Kinda Brilliant, and I wish that person a good nights sleep.
Wow, this is a bit of an older story, but what a monster this woman is.
Sounds like an episode of L&O.
So, the left has come full circle now with idiots returning to the arguments made by leftoids of the 60's full blast and without shame.
I do have to give the University of Michigan's Center for Campus Involvement credit for their choice of replacement. A children's movie derived from a toy. How appropriate for the protesters. The only better choice would have been the Care Bears Movie.
The only question I have is whether these clowns know the insult the choice represented.
Actually its a movie derived from a tv show derived from books, that also made a lot of money selling toys of the character.
Making Paddington Bear toys is how Jeremy Clarkson's (formerly of Top Gear) parents made their money.
They will protest Paddington on the grounds that it denigrates teh Teddie-Americans. Animal victim card shall be issued and SJW madness will ensure. Rinse. Repeat. Dumb down the USA!
The good thing about all of this "meh FEELINGS" garbage is it turns smart people into rebels, which will make being smart cool and therefore desirable.

"..because it's a way better movie and doesn't indulge in the boring psychoanalysis of a war criminal."
Certainly more to the taste of lefties everywhere. Nuanced messages are just too damn hard for the proggy brain to process.
Says the guy who went to fight the Vietcong. Yeah, your a sucker too, moron.
He's a moron?
Says the perpetual child who's unable to spell "you're". It's a contraction you scummy bootlicker.
And obviously more appropriate to that particular group of students on an intellectual level.
What war crimes did he commit?
I'm pretty anti-war/ anti-interventionist. But I see no reason to insult soldiers who are doing their job. Unless the guy was murdering people in defiance of orders just for kicks, I'm not sure how a sniper doing his job would be a war criminal.
I just strive to talk about leeches in the army like the right wing talks about the leeches who teach at public schools.
Well, isn't that petty and childish of you. I'd like to suggest that being an obnoxious dickhead might not be the best way to counter obnoxious dickheads.
"...like the right wing talks about the leeches who teach at public schools..."
That looks more like straw man projection than any reasonable response.
paddington is a british bear.
as an American, once colonized by the british and their brutal ursine mascots, paddington movies make me feel terribly unsafe.
i keep looking at the church tower to see if there are 1 or 2 lanterns hanging.
please ban this movie immediately.
i keep looking at the church tower to see if there are 1 or 2 lanterns hanging.
The enemy is within the gates; it is with our own luxury, our own folly, our own criminality that we have to contend. - Cicero
I thought he was a Teddie-American, my bad. He would be Teddie-Brit?
Was the lantern thingy "one by sea, two by land"?
one if by land, two if by sea. And it was a rebel who hung them up, at the risk of his life, and two more rebels mounted their horses (one provided by yet another rebel) and rode into the night to sound the alarum. In the space of 12 hours, over fourteen thousand armed colonials took to the field to see to "the security of a free state" by putting their time, goods, life on the line. Were such a call be put out tonight, how many would take action? Remember, they did not have Facebook, Twitter, testing, emails, telephone, no, not even the pathetically slow telegraph.
Actually, Paddington is a Peruvian bear.
But Paddington triggers my innate human fear of bears!
Shall I narrow my gaze on behalf of jesse?
a welcoming place to students of all backgrounds, ethnicities and religions
How about a white Christian former member of the armed services that was in combat in Iraq?
They don't count, you oppressor, you.
Thank you for your service..... but clearly the views of such people do not matter but yet its ok for you to risk your own lives to give people the right to have such views.... what would these people do if our military just gave up and told us all to fight for our own freedom. This country would fall apart in a heart beat....
no, because tens of thousands of patriots who DO care will rise up and take action. The military are tasked with dealing with dangers from abroad. Remember, the burden of "the security of a free state" rests upon the shoulders of WE THE PEOPLE. Pantywaists of the ilk of these ":students" and "administrators" will not lift a finger. In fact they will continue to expect others to hew their ewood and carry their water and prepare them their vegan suppers loaded with soy proteins.
So, these little malleable children, er adults can NOT handle the violence in American Sniper nor calling the bad guys "savages?" FYI, there are Muslims depicted as being victims of these savages and being helpful to the US forces too.
Yet, it's OK for them to buy violent video games like Call of Duty or many others? What about all of those violent movies with horrible killings in them? Do these same students protest them? Or are they busy at the front of the line to buy the games or tickets to watch them?
Sad days when we can not expect 18-22 year olds to respond as adults.
I don't think these students give a shit what the film is about. You stumble upon a key issue though. These are malleable young minds. What other response would you expect from those who have been conditioned the way they have? They're doing what all children do extremely well, adapting to their environment?
I doubt these turds were play cod, an 8 year old no scoping them and saying he is going to screw their mom through the headset would be way too much for them. These are the kids who played mario party
These are feelers who sit around all day txting, talking and butthurting. They make drama when none would normally exist.
Google pay 97$ per hour my last pay check was $8500 working 1o hours a week online. My younger brother friend has been averaging 12k for months now and he works about 22 hours a week. I cant believe how easy it was once I tried it out.

I wonder if the choice of Paddington was deliberate. "You people want to act like 9-year-olds? Fine, we'll treat you like 9-year-olds."
No, a**hole. The choice of Paddington was deliberate, yes. But it was ironic. Do you really need an explanation?
Because they're going to a public university. The vast majority of them have been exposed to nothing but government indoctrination and have been taught to lap up whatever they're taught and regurgitate it on command.
It's almost like they're trying to rid us of free will. It's almost as if they're succeeding.
Evidently the University of Michigan has turned in its "I am a University" credentials. they are now categorized as a Charter Elementary School.
But perhaps I am being too rough on them. Maybe their student body really is too immature to view adult movies.
that explains their football program.
This isn't a student problem it is a University problem. Pathetic leadership. Educational institutions are suppose to instruct, lead and be a place where open minded discussion can occur, even dissent. Why censor, via actions, something because it makes a few people feel bad. Leaders at schools like this used to be smart and competent, but there are too many cases today where the leaders prove that they are either weak and small minded or authoritarian fascists.
"but there are too many cases today where the leaders prove that they are either weak and small minded or authoritarian fascists."
A call for better leaders! Only from the 'libertarians' at Reason.
Coming from a guy who thinks the US president orchestrated 9/11, you'd think a call for better leadership would be well received.
"Coming from a guy who thinks the US president orchestrated 9/11, you'd think a call for better leadership would be well received."
The only comments I made here about that 9/11 thing was to point out the obvious inconsistency in the evidence of free fall and the official explanation of a cascading collapse. I have no idea to what degree if any a US president was involved in a conspiracy. I admit the possibility of a US president being involved in a criminal conspiracy doesn't shock me as much as it evidently does you. But of course, I'm both smarter and more knowledgable than you..
Yeah, and you've got that whole ellipsis thing nailed...
Bravo. But watch your back. The cons ("les cons" as they call them in France) don't like it one little bit when you point out the inherent contradictions of their "philosophy."
You don't go into academics to make bold seditious.
Decisions
Why would they not roll over? The only concern of administration is retention and growth. As long as the cash flows, who gives a wet slap what or even if anyone learns anything?
The school administration deserves as much blame as the students. 300 students out of forty-four freaking thousand take offense and the university folds like a cheap suit. It's fucking pathetic.
I fail to see a difference between Chris Kyle and Adam Lanza refusing to cater a gay wedding.
A poll of millenials, taken during the libertarian moment, explained the difference.
Actually, the movie seems to have been popular in Iraq, where plenty of citizens know that Kyle's targets were those seeking to kill them. But that doesn't matter to the professionally aggrieved, or to the academics who grant them an absolute right not to be offended even by the mere existence of something they wouldn't have to see.
Well I grow up going to school and having history pushed down my throat to teach us not to make the same mistake. So my question is do we stop showing videos about the Hitler and what he did to the Jews? Be we stop showing videos of what the Jews did to Jesus (that's going on a whole religious level I don't feel ill leave alone) should we stop showing videos of slavery and the civil rights movement I mean maybe we should just get rid of history altogether so we don't offend anyone?
A lot of people judged and missed the point of the movie altogether... so here's my question does everyone that joins the military and goes over and fights in that country are they all going to be concerned racist? Because these students have to remember one thing if it wasn't for the Chris Kyle's of the world and our military they wouldn't have the freedoms and rights to be able to protest their views..
One last thing half of more then half of those students probably haven't even watched the movie their for to call it racist is beyond rude especially when the movie should the difficulty it was for this man to face real life after the military and how he was killed by someone who couldn't get the help he needed. Yes the movie showed his career but thats not what the movie was fully about. Get over it life happens people call me racist if you like I don't care.
People want to cal
"Although we respect the right to freedom of speech, we believe that with this right comes responsibility: responsibility of action, intention, and outcome....?" Wrong, none of that is mentioned in the 1st amendment. Just add this to the list of why I'm embarrassed to be a UM alumni, albeit it was 40 years ago.
I think the heart of their problem is with Clint Eastwood. He's made no secret that he is On The Other Side, and therefore needs to be silenced. I'd bet that many of the protesters never even saw the movie and still feel they know exactly what it's all about due to Eastwood's involvement.
If this exact same movie had been released under an unknown ethnic-sounding director's name, it'd be a "nuanced take on the costs of war."
"Show me an 18-year-old who wants to change a world he's never lived in and I'll show you a pest."

I guess they should not ever consider showing Apocalypse Now, or Six Days at Entebbe. For that matter, Gone with the Wind would arouse the hyper-sensitivities of some ?ber raciophobic types. Good grief, since when are individuals responsible for the OUTCOME of someone else's actions?

http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-.....snipe.html
I guess it's not entirely unreasonable. 'American Sniper' probably isn't a great choice for the original forum which tends toward the silly and lightweight (ordinarily activities are apparently t hings like laser tag, 'Alice in Wonderland' mini-golf, and a 'Lady and the Tramp' pasta buffet):

Padding Bear, apparently somebody is more clever than I thought.
When I was in college, they showed all sorts of films, not just the ones that conformed to any particular person's political views. Some of those films were pretty controversial, but the experience of watching them was supposed challenge us and expose us to differing viewpoints. I don't think it ever occurred to any of us to be afraid of a film or a book.
Ah, Yes, the power of the minority veto, exercised by an aggrieved few whose feelings may be hurt.
They better hope to hell that the majority doesn't decide to veto them.
Why is a university showing Hollywood films?
Assign them the books to read.
You go to school to learn skills that you will
use in life to better your life and possibly the
lives of others.
But School is school, my time there is expensive
and anything not working towards getting out of there
with an education is a waste of everyone's time.

Paddington seems an appropriate replacement film for the gentle souls at the University of Michigan. The movie would also seem to be fitting to their intellectual age if the Center for Campus Involvement is to be believed as they have deemed them so impressionable that watching a film about American hero Chris Kyle would apparently cause Wolverines to become sociopathic zealots wishing mayhem on campus Muslim and MENA students.
It is a sad commentary on our time that 300 students can deprive 43,000 students of their constitutional rights through the propagandist device of fallacious assertions. It would seem that the 43,000 have no voice at the U of M.
No reason to show it if no one's going to come.
I don't see what the big deal is. They were going to show something. Whatever they show, that means they don't show something else. Their choice would in any case please some & displease others. What's the difference what the reason for the choice was?

I don't see a big difference between these kinds of inane restrictions, and the restrictions on supposedly morally offensive or sexually explicit content that educational institutions used to have. Students seem to be able to overcome this stupidity.
Ah, my alma mater -- it's stuff like this, and especially the hostility and harassment I received for being an outspoken critic of Leftism, that explains why exactly none of my charitable contributions are directed toward thee.
I just got paid $6784 working off my laptop this month. And if you think that?s cool, my divorced friend has twin toddlers and made over $9k her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less. This is what I do...

Univ of Michigan has changed its mind - decided not to cancel showing.
Now that's what I call a proper education: "Don't worry, if it bothers you, we won't show it... Hah! Just kidding!"
Well I think the whole point these stoontz are trying to make is that the fact that a film sells a lot of tickets isn't reason enough to show it on the campus of a university, which is a place that's by definition not part of the larger market but rather an institution of learning, where intellectual, scientific, and yes, moral issues are discussed. So if certain fo these lazy, gimme-gimme, protected, mama's-boy/girl stoontz feel that the film is a piece of propaganda
...as I was saying, if certain of these lazy, gimme-gimme, protected, mama's-boy/girl stoontz feel that the film is a piece of propaganda for the Western agenda of domination of the globe through military force, which requires the glorification of traditional Western sadistic-masochistic, mortiferous male behavior and the Manichean separation of the world into Good Guys and Bad Guys, then they perhaps have a right as customers of the university to have their objections listened to and acted upon.
I am probably naive for saying this: But I really don't understand the outrage about the movie.
I am no military lover, but took the time to read his book. There was nothing racist in there at all that I could see. Her articulates his views of how he saw the enemy, not the population in general.
He was a sniper sent to battle on behalf of his country. People he killed (according to his book which is my primary source) were enemy. Not just simple "brown skinned Muslim people".
Also, I always thought college/university was about confronting different ideas, worldviews, and dialog. That whole "tolerance" thing. Maybe that was from another time though. These students are going to be in for one heck of a rude awakening when they enter the real world IMO.
