FCC Releases Net Neutrality Kraken, More SAE Frats Investigated for Racism, British Mass Surveillance Defended: P.M. Links
-
The Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) 300-page list of guidelines overhauling how the government will regulate the Internet was released today. It gives the agency a lot of leeway to decide what's appropriate to allow or forbid private Internet service providers to do.
- Other college chapters of fraternity SAE are now being investigated over reports that the racist chant caught on video at the University of Oklahoma was known there as well.
- A British watchdog agency overseeing its intelligence agencies says the country's massive data interception and collection is legal, but called for new laws to clarify matters for the public's benefit.
- The police chief in Ferguson, Missouri, has resigned, joining the exodus of other top officials in the city. He'll get one-year severance pay, totaling $96,000.
- Raise a glass of scumble (a very small glass) in memory of liberty-loving fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett, who has died at age 66.
- Utah has passed an antidiscrimination ordinance protecting gay and transgender people in the workplace and in housing that has the support of the Mormon church.

Utah has passed an antidiscrimination ordinance protecting gay and transgender people in the workplace and in housing that has the support of the Mormon church.
Isn't the Mormons who they're being protected from?
Does this stuff get leaked to you before it's published?
Uh, I like to think I'd come up with better material if I had time to prepare.
Well you certainly have a high opinion.
Hello.
I said...
Forget it.
So it basically the law only protects LGBT employees from employers who don't want to discriminate against them to begin with.
I still demand restitution from Warty for the large collection of STDs he passed onto me.
Caution! Warty's idea of restitution will be to give you even more STDs.
So I'll be spending at least another 20 grand at the proctologist?
After a second go-around, the proctologist really doesn't have much to work with.
Get one that specializes in reconstructive surgery.
Even Obamacare won't help you there. Most of the STDs Warty carries aren't known to man or animal.
It's like a more terrifying version of The Andromeda Strain.
You're the admitted child molester, right?
If fooling around with a 15 year old when I was 6 counts, then sure.
Or an 11 year old when I was 10.
Oh yeah, and an 8 year old when I was 7.
Thank goodness it wasn't with you, so there was no coercion or anal prolapses.
You got molested? That's way funnier.
She didn't force me to do anything I didn't want to do.
If she pestered me to penetrate her with my 6 year old prick, I just refused until she dropped it.
I know, I was a big pussy. 🙁
Maybe I'm confusing you with someone else. If you're not the guy who was whining about being convicted of statutory rape, I apologize.
I don't know about the statutory rape thing, but Plopper is the bi-polar weirdo that used to show up on The Independents/weekend threads.
I'm not really very bi-polar in recent years, so I'm not sure exactly what you mean.
Being annoyed that certain people would dismiss my arguments by just shouting "pedophile" did cause me to get rather butthurt though.
How can someone be 'not really very bi-polar'?
How can someone be 'not really very bi-polar'?
As in I don't have very extreme mood swings like I once did when I was much younger.
Doesn't mean I don't sometimes get a little bit manic or a little bit depressed though, but that's fairly normal for most people.
They haven't had many episodes recently?
Just a guess.
No, I've never been convicted of any sex crimes.
I have been rather outspoken on some rather controversial issues, such as AoC and child porn laws though.
Apparently I really offended Irish's and HM's sensibilities way back when and it lead to them accusing me of being a pedophile as if there was no other reason for me having the views I do.
s/lead/led/
Plopper is the male, therefore he was the molester regardless of the other person's age.
Was her name "Miss Lois" ... by any chance?
No, her family emigrated from Peru.
Whew.
...but called for new laws to clarify matters for the public's benefit.
Stupid public.
"All your doubts and concerns should be put to rest by this simple 20,000-page law."
"True, you will need to hire attorneys to interpret everything therein but what did you think was the purpose of Law?"
Other college chapters of fraternity SAE are now being investigated over reports that the racist chant...
They're toast.
What's worse, their racism or rapism?
Their jizm-ism.
Nice band name.
Don't have much sympathy for them. The left have been propping up fake stories of 'racism' for years, and you don't have to be a genius to realize what they would do once they actually found something to beat the public over the head with.
Yep, pretty much. The blind squirrel found the acorn this time and there were plenty of people just raring and ready for their preconceived biases to be finally confirmed after maliciously false accusations were shown to be such time and time again.
Fuck, I can't believe I'm feeling sorry for frats, but I seem to recall Mencken saying something about scoundrels, so, welp...
REMINDER:
Do your part.
Service guarantees citizenship.
Would you like to know more?
Best part about that movie (besides Dina Meyer naked in the shower) is Nazi NPH.
(and yes, I know it's a book, and yes, I know the book is better. I've read it multiple times. But I just love the movie so.)
I really like that movie too.
The movie didnt have mechanized infantry suits.
Fuck the movie.
I subscribe to that newsletter.
That was MEANT to follow Robc. Dammit.
HoD is right about robc being right!
The movie has pretty much nothing from the book.
But it is awesome in its own right. I love a dark comedy. I ranted about that part earlier, so I'll quote some of the dark political humor:
And the first comment is from an ignorant NN supporter; the FCC could 'turn over the internet to the cable companies'.
I've been thinking about "Net Neutrality" and have come to the conclusion that the term is a misnomer, misleading and inaccurate. The FCC's seizing regulatory control over the Internet should henceforth be referred to as "Net Brutality."
Nyet Neutrality.
I prefer mine, though I like the Russian.
I was going with Net Imbecility, but yours is better.
I think there should be a mascot for Net Brutality, named Nat Brutality. The FCC could commission cartoons around Nat, showing him crushing innovation and regulating porn.
Net Neuterality - because the FCC is likely to castrate the Internet as we know.
I think that they are more likely to hobble the future development of the internet and leave what exists now mostly intact. People of all political stripes will be very unhappy if they ruin what's already there. Though I suppose you can't be sure that they won't just cut their own dick off because FYTW.
He pulled a Tony in the abortion thread and made disparaging comments about so-con impurities well after the thread had mostly died.
Fine by me. That's far less disruptive than what he usually does.
How would you define less disruptive?
13 year old girl
A$$hole
/Bo
15-20 more of those would be par for the course.
HOW MUCH YOU SQUAT BRO
ALL OF IT
I'M NOT A VIRGIN YOU'RE THE VIRGIN
GAMERGATE!!!!!!!
I SKWAT MOOOOOAAAAARRRRRR
He'll get one-year severance pay, totaling $96,000.
Luckily the city's citizens are a neverending stream of revenue.
*** tickets Fist for precipitating bitter laughter ***
It gives the agency a lot of leeway to decide what's appropriate to allow or forbid private Internet service providers to do.
Why do regulations only ever offer leeway to the regulators and not the regulated?
If the proles are given leeway they might make incorrect decisions. Only TOP MEN should be given discretion.
Remember that song from the end of Fight Club? It got neutered for a car commercial.
Fight Club sucked.
I used to like it before I understood the implications of what Tyler Durden was actually trying to accomplish.
(To be fair, the movie really did have its moments, I just can't get past this shit:)
You realize Durden isn't supposed to be a good guy, right?
Really? He was integral to saving "narrator" from his humdrum Ikea existence.
The book is a whole lot more explicit in portraying Durden as savior.
IMO, Chaos neutral anti-villain.
Certainly not good but his intent wasn't to bring about the "White Indian" as much as liberate millions of special snowflake clones from their slow deaths in cubicles.
As a libertarian, I can certainly sympathize with the notion of reducing the bureacracy back to whatever local tribal leader exists even while I realize the goal is wholly unattainable.
For me, it was a funny male rebellion fantasy, nothing more.
But yeah, definitely had a White Indian vibe to it.
Still, "we're selling their fat asses back to them" is one my favorite movie lines.
I am Jack's poignant nostalgia.
The movie was meh. My buddies went nuts for it constantly quoting it. I wanted to bash them all. Problem is a couple are stronger than me.
By the way, I offered a brief reply to your comment in the AM links about war fatigue in Europe.
Speaking of fraternities, I used to have to quote that movie all the time while I was a pledge.
I don't think Italy was all the warlike to begin with.
And it's regional. I see Italy breaking apart before I see it picking fights again (not like they're much of threat in that regard anyway, I mean really, the fucking Greeks??)
I agree. They weren't.
But I won't overplay what happened in WWII. Mussolini plunged a nation into war unprepared. He riled the people up (sort of) up but then they realized 'wtf?' and went for an espresso. They turned their concerns to protecting its cultural patrimony after they realized Hitler was nuts and looking to loot the country.
A political minnow but economic power as it was once described during the balance of power epoch starting in 1648.
Unification never gelled for Italy.
So Rufus, this is you and your buddies?
https://youtube.com/watch?v=-FotYss3fRo&t=328
p.s. Don't go to sleep early.
That was us.
And women back then loved the caveman shtick.
Rufus and his buddies playing soccer.
Well, we certainly played like Lionel Ritchie at times.
Anti-industrial themes like that are about as subtle as an icepick in the eye to me and I can't stand that shit at all, particularly because roughly 100% of the time it's being espoused by some hypocritical jackass in front of a computer in an air-conditioned room who probably has multiple Apple products within arm's reach.
There are the rare few who actually do go out and live like a savage and the nice thing about them is that not only do they cease whining on the Internet about how the rest of us should be forced to live their lifestyle, but sometimes they realize it's actually not all it's cracked up to be.
And maybe it is all it's cracked up to be for some people. Good for them. I have to admire people who can do that. But those people are busy living their life and not wasting time hassling people who have no interest in living like that.
"Other college chapters of fraternity SAE are now being investigated over reports that the racist chant caught on video at the University of Oklahoma was known there as well."
I just feel like this sentence doesn't appear sufficiently angry or unequivocally condemnatory of the racism on display here, and therefore Scott Shackford is clearly a member of the Outraged White Man Brigade who does not care in the least for black people when there's a racist to defend.
*shakes fist angrily, declares self the one true libertarian*
The chant was known?!! You mean, once hearing it, they didn't unhear it?! Only a racist would know of racist chants, words, or terms. How many here know of this chant!!!!!!!! RACISTSSSSSSS!!!!!
The implication seems to be that perhaps it is a unofficial part of their initiation process, at least in some chapters. I have no idea if this is true, but it could be true, I suppose.
I really can't give much of a shit about something like this. Does saying some stupid racist shit mean that you want black people to be systematically oppressed again? Doesn't seem that way to me in some cases. Unless you want the thought police to be a thing, you just have to accept that some people will be casually racist in an annoying but mostly harmless way.
Thanks for the free publicity, SJWs
The band is really good. But enough fun, on to the indignation!
Tonight, at the Pit, "Everyone Gets Laid"
The picture of the band in the linked article shows how cyclical styles are. The guy in front on the far right looks just like the Doobie Brothers' guitarist looked in the early 70's -- and hey! that's early 70's Stephen Stills right next to him!
In the early 70's Black Pussy would have been the name of a black detective movie.
I guess hipsters are channeling the 70s now rather than the 50s. What happened to the 60s?
"The video the band linked to is highly non-apologetic. It shows comedian Doug Stanhope mid-routine, saying that anyone who is offended by words had idiots for parents who never should have been allowed to have kids."
I have never heard any of their songs but am now their biggest fan.
Anyone who likes Doug Stanhope can't be all that bad.
Keynesian Economic Theory As Applied To Private Sector Independent Contracting
NSFW - but has perfect libertarian message
I think it says something about me that I thought they were referring to a black cat.
Mrs. Slocombe, on Are You Being Served?: "Every time I show my pussy, it wins a cup!"
In the comments:
It's really hard for me to take anyone who fully capitalizes 'POWER' because this immediately starts playing in my head.
Oh snap.
I think Performance Optimization With Enhanced RISC?
I know it's pronounced 'Margo' but why isn't it 'Mar-gott?'
/slams fist on bed.
To racists.
Full stop.
And....would she prefer 'Black Cunts'?
That's just "blunts," Rufus.
...the band's name is "triggering."
I will clasp this small ray of hope to my bosom through the dark night of despair.
But does it "trigger" rational thought? No? Then bugger it.
At the change.org petition:
Change.org is the worst website there is. Of course it was created by the government.
Petition? To the government? Look, Black Pussy is perfectly legal. You might even be able to get trademark protection if you adopted a black cat as a logo or something.
Preferably an even more butthurt version of the Sour Puss cat.
Petition? To the government? Look, Black Pussy is perfectly legal. You might even be able to get trademark protection if you adopted a black cat as a logo or something.
Not only that, but breaking up the "Black Pussy" band and reforming under the name of "Banned Black Pussy" or "Repressed Black Pussy" is the *ideal* endgame.
I.B.P. (Illegal Black Pussy)
Black Pussy Outlaws
God I hope the change.org petition goes through. This is so much better than Pussy Riot.
Keep wishing, Stephen Burkhardt! Keep wishing!
He'll sic Juliet on your ass.
If "God" is female, why then did she create a world in which women seem bound to be either slaves to the patriarchy or whiny, useless assholes?
Also, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
God is female and ultimately she will correct your lack of manners.
I'm pretty sure that stephen burkhardt wants god to spank him very badly because he is sometimes rude.
"I am an artist who is offended by sensationalistic poseurs who seek attention via notiriety for their "art". As an artist and as a man, I love and respect women. God is female and ultimately she will correct your lack of manners."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!
Admittedly, it's refreshing to see someone blatantly admit that their views are religious projection.
Stephen is fucking PRICELESS.
If we had invented him, no one would have believed us.
Is he a character on Portlandia?
These people are parodies of parodies.
falling back on some ignorant stereotype of black sexuality as some exotic trophy to acquire.
Or maybe they just really like black pussy?
Love Black Pussy... The band isn't too shabby either...
How is a band name like that supporting violence?
I wonder if Nashville Pussy ever got attacked like this.
She must have a DRY PUSSY or something.
I'm guessing smelly.
Clearly. I mean, who doesn't know that naming your band is exactly the same as slavery and rape?
Goddamnit.
Shit, I fucked up the second link. It's supposed to go here.
Hehe, the video is highly non-apologetic. Because they're not apologizing. That should have been clear. Why would you think they were linking to an apologetic video? And if they did, would you really accept it?
Man, I know you're never supposed to read the comments, but holy crow, the comments on that article were... amazing.
"Black Pussy"? That's not offensive. I was imagining something way worse.
They should put a picture of a black cat on their Facebook. That will fix it.
In other unsurprising news, Warty called for a WITCH HUNT, and it happened.
Of all the bad things in the world, a cult of the murder of albinos is certainly...well, one of them.
I blame you not, Maestro. Your words and deeds are widely misinterpreted.
Ooh, ee, ooh ah ah
Ting tang
Walla walla bing bang.
So in regards to the Offended White Guy Brigade, where do I sign up? Preferred rank First Lieutenant (that's LEF-tenant) please.
Also, I'm not sure what other people are thinking, but I imagine the OWGB primarily being in the style of 19th century British colonial brigades, rather than American. Preferably filled with the angriest Scots we can find.
If you have ever disagreed with Bo on anything you are automatically in.
I believe Col. RC Dean is in charge of the officer hierarchy.
I'll take the platoon clown role.
So I'm automatically in even though I'm not (fully) white?
Yup. That's the beauty of the OWGB - race is irrelevant.
We need window dressing.
I'm pretty sure Heroic Mulatto is in too. I might be too nice to Bo, I'm not sure.
I'm sick and tired of arguing about so-called "Net Neutrality" with its intentionally vague "public interest" and "unjust and unreasonable" idiocy with people who should know better, so here's some Rand:
http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexi.....ctive.html
And some more! Have Gun, Will Nudge, a 1962 essay about the FCC that's just as timely today.
I just can't iterate enough how much the EFF screwed the pooch on this one. I basically see a direct parallel in Citizen's United where the specter of corporations sitting in their corporation buildings being all corporation-y totally destroyed the ability of people to think rationally on the principles they claim to uphold.
People are still fucking insane on Citizen's United.
Today in wacky conspiracy theories: black activist claims the declassification of homosexuality as a mental illness was a white supremacist plot to sabotage the civil rights movement:
https://youtu.be/MBpu_MWxYtM?t=8m20s
So his argument is that white people hate black people so much that they had gays co-opt the civil rights movement away from them.
I guess it's time to get rid of my Better Homo Than Negro bumper sticker.
If you read Reason you'd think libertarians oppose abortion and immigration restrictions, intervention and support gay marriage.
If you read the comments you'd think exactly the opposite about half or more of the commenters.
And here ... we ... go!
Ahem
I refuse to abide by your social contract!
You're a good libertarian, Cali. Clearly you should get out of here before the other regular commenters drive you away with our exhortations to constant war and our claims that we should bring back the draft, but only for black people.
One day, when African-Americans have been forced into the military through conscription and are lined up on the Rio Grande gunning down Mexican immigrants while we cheer them on, you'll be glad that you left before it was too late.
while we cheer them on
Where can I buy my tickets for this?
What do you call a pro life, anti immigration, pro intervention libertarian?
A Republican, of course.
(Reason commenter would also be at least half of the time right too).
Bo, I disagree with a lot of people here on those issues all the time, and I still think you're overplaying your point by making it seem like most people here are Free Republic clones and posting about it in every thread.
Calidissident, if I thought I were the one being foolishly repetitive and simplistic here I'd concede to you. But witness any immigration, abortion, gay marriage or, say Iran thread around here.
"if I thought I were the one being foolishly repetitive and simplistic here I'd concede to you."
It can be both, you know.
I'm not saying I don't disagree with positions people take in those threads. That said, it's not always the same people (for example, Cytotoxic is the biggest hawk on this board, but also fiercely pro-open borders and pro-abortion) and I think it's also normal that the people who disagree with something (Reason's take on an issue) will be the most motivated to post about it, especially considering a lot of those threads get trolls that never otherwise post. It's also not uniform agreement like you're making it out to be.
Also, I don't think most people support attacking Iran. Being skeptical of a deal or their claims of not pursuing nuclear weapons isn't the same thing as advocating military action.
You literally could not find someone in that thread arguing in favor of war with Iran, but Bo and Jackand Ace were determined not to let little things like 'the actual arguments being made' get in the way of declaring everyone warmongers.
Being against peace talks is bit troubling, but if that's problematic just note people like Gilmore, Winston, etc that regularly mock non intervention broadly here with little response.
with little response.
I have a decade of responding to Gilmore. That qualifies as more than a little and Im not the only one.
After a while, you move on.
" just note people like Gilmore, Winston, etc that regularly mock non intervention broadly here"
I love how your "worst case example" is just "someone who understands foreign policy theory"
lol
"Also, I don't think most people support attacking Iran. Being skeptical of a deal or their claims of not pursuing nuclear weapons isn't the same thing as advocating military action."
Wrong. According to Bo, you are not allowed to mention facts if those facts could conceivably be used by anyone to argue against a libertarian policy position. Therefore, declaring that Iran is untrustworthy and that a treaty with them is not worth the paper it's printed on makes you a warmonger.
Also, according to Bo, people on this board never disagree with Republicans on anything, despite the fact that Republican superhero Tom Cotton is constantly getting shit on and Reason despises cops. Tell me, what's the Republican party line on police officers? Or prostitution? Or drugs? Because it seems like Reason commenters to a man disagree with them on those subjects. But that doesn't matter, because some people aren't totally open borders.
And, for example, Im pro-open borders and anti-war and anti-abortion.
Bo, you are being foolishly repetitive and simplistic.
A pro lifer, immigration restrictionist, homophobe and a neocon walk into a libertarian discussion board...
No punchline, just describing some of the threads here.
"A pro lifer, immigration restrictionist, homophobe and a neocon walk into a libertarian discussion board...
No punchline, just describing some of the threads here."
Are you doing ok?
Visit Marxist discussion boards some time, you still see a wide array of differences and disagreements. Nothing to get so upset over.
Oh bullshit.
If you look on the libertarian party platform under "abortion" you will see the party takes no position because there is no consensus among libertarians.
http://www.lp.org/platform#1.5
No one here is against legal immigration. Some are against open borders.
And aside from Cytotoxic, no one here wants the US to be the world's policeman.
If you want to have an actual discussion, try arguing in good faith.
"t government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration."
Er that's pro choice
Funny, you left off the first part:
I know a good number of people who oppose abortion on ethical grounds who are quite libertarian. And there are different flavors of libertarian in any case, to be sure. Having a lot of individual viewpoints is an unsurprising side effect of a political movement based on the individual. Really, the essence of libertarianism is opposition to government, ranging from repudiating the concept altogether to wanting only a minimal amount of government and no more.
You can come up with limited government arguments for a number of hot-button issues these days, on either side. There's really not a huge litmus test from my point of view except wanting to keep government small and out of our business.
That's the pro choice position in a nutshell: it's a tough call to make so everybody should be able to make their choice in line with their conscience with NO interference from government
But the pro-life side views a human life being threatened. I'm not sure I have much of a dog in this fight myself, but I certainly acknowledge that it's just a matter of line drawing, except for people who are okay with post-birth infanticide, I guess. If one person says it's wrong and legally actionable to kill a human, the whole question hinges on when the thing being killed is recognized as human.
So the LP says people can hold various good-faith positions on abortions. That's not pro-choice. You don't have to be pro-choice to be a libertarian.
Now will you be honest and concede that point?
And I'm OK with abortions in most cases. I say that if the absence of brain activity is the standard for death, the presence of brain activity is the standard for life.
No, pro choice means if you oppose abortion don't get one, if you're ok with it go for it, but the government will not interfere.
If pro-choice people do not want the govt to interfere, why did they get upset about the govt pulling funding from Planned Parenthood? Why do most pro-choice people want the govt to force employers to pay for birth control?
If pro-choice people do not want the govt to interfere, why did they get upset about the govt pulling funding from Planned Parenthood?
That's different from pro-choice. If what Bo quoted is the Libertarian party position on abortion, I'd call that pro-choice. I try to avoid pro-choice in describing my views on the legality of abortion because so many people who identify that way are not pro-choice on many other issues. But as commonly understood it does mean one is in favor of allowing a woman to legally have an abortion if she so chooses. All the SJW bullshit added on is just SJW bullshit.
Alright, but Bob Barr and Ron Paul are both pro-life and they were LP presidential nominees. Gary Johnson supports restrictions on abortion after viability.
How about: if you oppose theft then don't steal, if you're ok with it go for it, but the government will not interfere?
Weird that Bob Barr was their presidential nomination.
Also, Cytotoxic's openly an Objectivist, not a libertarian, and his foreign policy platform is pretty much exactly in line with what Pope Leonard Peikoff declares.
Also holy shit Peikoff is CANADIAN?!? Is Cytotoxic a time traveler too?
I didn't realize using your neighbor's military to kill people you don't like (while you do nothing) was part of that. The more you know.
Canadian Objectivism is different than other kinds.
Like Canadian money it features loons
try arguing in good faith.
When you are basically dishonest, you think everyone else is also. Since Bo does not argue in good faith, he must assume that everyone else does not. Anyone who posts here and does not support his Pure Libertarian positions must be plants from Red State.
"What do you call a pro life, anti immigration, pro intervention libertarian?"
You conveniently leave out the hatred of cops on these boards, the anti-drug war beliefs, the pro-prostitution beliefs, etc.
It's almost like you're a disingenuous idiot.
Congrats, your william f buckley!
Why are you congratulating his william f buckley?
William F. Buckley hated cops? That isn't particularly evident from anything he wrote.
I'm relatively agnostic on the aortion issue other than one shouldn't be forced to pay for another person's health care. I'm pro-immigration, and anti-intervention.
And yet, I think Bo Cara is an overweening asshole.
See what you did?
Let's be real here, the floodgates were opened as soon as he posted his first comment.
He only has the power you give him.
The juvenile psychopath Gamergates don't want ignored either I see.
The sad part is you're not even good at insults. If you have to be an oversensitive, paranoid narcissist intent on constantly attacking enemies both real and imagined, the least you could do is be clever, funny, or pithy about it.
Wholeheartedly agree with your take on the Devils this morning.
They were stacked.
What Warty said. Ignore the clown.
He's fishing for attention; please don't validate him. If you refuse we'll have to send elements of the Offended White Guys Brigade to make you stop. Perhaps an Offended White Guys Platoon, or even a full Offended White Guys Company.
John Titor nails it again.
You mean "Here we go!"
The voices in your head don't count as commenters, Bo.
Ahem
I'm sorry, I can't help myself sometimes.
They Eagles have landed Murray...
Maybe there is a method to Kelly...other than being racist of course.
I'm partially happy about that and partially happy because FUCK DALLAS.
FUCK DALLAS
Amen and amen.
I think he's lost his mind and wants to go back to college.
So now you've gone from anal retentive pedantry to outright lying.
Back on ignore.
"If you read Reason you'd think libertarians oppose abortion and immigration restrictions, intervention and support gay marriage.
If you read the comments you'd think exactly the opposite about half or more of the commenters."
AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH!
Bo's descent into crazed, mentally disturbed troll is at last complete.
It was complete a year ago. He's just not trying to hide it anymore now that he's learned to truly hate us.
Exactly. It was probably complete long before he showed up - it was all an act to expose us for what we are so he can run around screaming saying:
Ermagerd can you believe that libbertarians are really just teathuglicanneosnoconez!!!
Restoras, Restoras, the 'libertarian' who says he supports allowing a majority of voters to prohibit gambling among adults if that's what they want.
And yet people keep feeding him.
Despite your sad, middle school girl attempts, huh? Good thing you haven't, you know, invested in this place as your community or something, right? Lol
Bo has fallen to the level of being nothing more than a troll I see.. Wow.
Fallen? A micrometer? **googles furiously** An angstrom?
Current price of rice in China : $452 per ton.
But what is the price of butter in Hamburg?
Yes, but what is the price of tea?
One can:
A) be pro-life;
B) oppose the expansion of the Equal Protection Clause's protected-class status because it further erodes freedom of association rights;
C) support (very) limited border protections; and
D) be libertarian.
You misunderstand B (protected classes are federal statute not 14th amendment, at least in terms of associational issues).
And I sure don't think libertarians have to be one way on any one or two of these, but when a person quacks and quacks and quacks...sooner or later it's going to be seen as a duck, not an eagle.
I thought protected-class statutes were constitutional because of the EPC?
No, they're justified (supposedly) under commerce clause.
I tend to agree that anti-immigration is unlibertarian except in a very utilitarian way that I don't like at all. Same more or less for military interventionism. But, though I am very firmly in favor of legal abortion, and don't have any moral problem with the practice, I don't think that it is a question ver easily answered by libertarian principles. If you truly believe that a fetus has the same moral status as a baby that has been born, it is a tricky balance of competing rights to sort out. I tend to think that even assuming that moral status the pregnant woman's rights not to have to keep a parasitic life inside of her should win out. But Other arguments are not obviously wrong.
Two-faced cow.
But, enough about you-know-who ....
It's going to get turned into roast beef for open faced sandwhiches.
I never saw a two-faced cow,
I never hope to see one....
Wow, so that's what PIcasso used as his model.
So speaking of Iran my big pet peeve about that situation is how the 1941 Anglo-Soviet Invasion of Iran is always being memory-holed as it was the event that actually installed Mohammed Reza Pahlavi as Shah. Is it because it was a part of WWII and it involved Stalin? Both the left and right would like to ignore that. The anti-war left would also like to ignore MI6's role in the 1953 coup since Churchill was also PM in 1941.
But what about the anti-war libertarians like Ron Paul, Sheldon Richman, Justin Raimondo and Lew Rockwell? I mean it is an excellent example of blowback since the Brits supported Reza Shah ousting the Qajars and the Soviets during their occupation founded the Tudeh party. But no, is it because they only use leftists talking points?
"The anti-war left would also like to ignore MI6's role in the 1953 coup since Churchill was also PM in 1941."
I don't see how that follows.
I think the reason the 1941 coup gets less attention is that 1) the US wasn't involved, so it's naturally going to get less attention in the US 2) it happened during WW2 and gets overshadowed by that 3) it's not as recent
I don't see how that follows.
How do you explain that Churchill invading Iran to oust Reza Shah in 1941 was okay but using MI6 to oust Mossadegh in 1953 was bad?
I'd say it largely has to do with Great Britain no longer holding the 'superpower' status it once did, so America gets the focus (especially within the U.S. itself). Outside of academia the British are just starting to get called on the bullshit they pulled over the past two centuries which is responsible for a lot of problems (Sykes-Picot anyone?).
(Sykes-Picot anyone?).
And France too...
Absolutely, especially in regards to most of the long term problems started by the Paris 1919 Peace Conference (Wilson deserves some of the blame as well however). Also you can throw in the Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch for some limited regional problems in Southeast Asia and South America.
The Dutch brought slavery to the US and founded New York City.
And we can't forget the Swedes for settling New Jersey.

Sounds like someone is Ready for Hillary!
The "rape poem" isn't tiresome because of the subject, it's tiresome because they are all done in the same annoying style. I feel like I've seen that performance a hundred times already.
Angry collectivists bitching at society at large because of the actions of an individual? I'm sure this is the first time anyone's thought of that.
But they're so edgy!
I don't and I'm not sure I want to. What the fuck is a rape poem? That's a thing? I'm going to guess that it is some sort of an account of being raped.
If you're lucky enough to earn a living from your art, you're probably white
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....bly-white/
So, black musicians like Jay-z and Beyonce aren't artists then?
I'll stipulate to that.
The racial gap among artists in America isn't, of course, a question of desire, talent, or ability.
That goes without saying, DUH!
Good grief, does every single goddam thing need to be broken down by race and gender, and if there is even the slightest over-representation of whites or males, it's some huge fucking issue?
I saw an article this week about how Uber drivers are predominantly male, so feminists and Uber have gotten together to 'reach out' and improve the female driver numbers in this 'old-boys club'.
Really? Uber was apparently 'oppressing' women because the Uber drivers aren't 50-50 male to female? How about, let's see..... perhaps many women are self-selecting that they'd prefer not to be alone in a car picking up strangers, and that's why they aren't going for these jobs? No, you're right, I'm sure it was just sexism on the part of Uber.
You must have received that Uber email too.
Yes.

If you are a person in the US, you are probably white. So what?

You're not the boss of me!
My contempt for his pedantry is slightly tempered by a feeling of pity for him. After all, not once has Bo ever demonstrated having a life outside of these discussion threads and his academic studies.
Think about it: most of us can tell stories and anecdotes about our lives to add to the discussion. But not Bo, he's apparently never been to college parties, or had dates, or done anything of note that might make him appear like a normal human being. No, instead all he can do is split hairs and come up with silly hypotheticals.
I swear he's a product of the Bob Jones system.
You might be on to something there.
I knew someone who went there, along with his sisters. (The K-12 school that is)
Yeah, well i bet you vote republican.
"My contempt for his pedantry is slightly tempered by a feeling of pity for him. After all, not once has Bo ever demonstrated having a life outside of these discussion threads and his academic studies."
He will mellow out after he gets a job and the person he disagrees with has the authority to fire him and probably will. If he never holds down a job, well, he'll be a raving homeless man who posts at the library. But at least they usually have a time limit.
a raving homeless man who posts at the library
I feel the need to represent the late JsubD here. He was a homeless vet who posted to here from the library. I don't know what he was like on the streets, but here he was always sane and civil. He gave us one of our holiest of weapons, "fuck off, slaver."
He gave us one of our holiest of weapons, "fuck off, slaver."
Nope, that was P Brooks, before he was late.
I then ran with it, to the point that even I thought I had come up with it for a while.
But, yeah, I immediately thought of Jsub after reading that comment.
Yes. No shame in being homeless and posting at the library if you don't have a chip on your shoulder and don't think the world owes you a living. Here's to JsubD.
I'm not entirely convinced that exhorting people not to feed trolls is less annoying than the trolls themselves.
But what about people who complain about the people who are complaining about the trolls?

The Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) 300-page list of guidelines overhauling how the government will regulate the Internet was released today.
300 pages? Dat's nuthin!
*Goes back to reading the Internal Revenue Code*
There's an entire shelf on a bookshelf in my office dedicated just to the Internal Revenue Code and the regulations. It's absurd.
Oh I know. I'm studying the taxation of property transactions right now, actually. Fuckin' test tomorrow.
Andrew, IIRC you said you received a LLM in Taxation; do you think it was worth it? I've been contemplating whether to pursue one after I get my J.D.
I'm not sure it was worth it. It probably helped me find my job, but it was a lot of money for something I only indirectly use in my work (Securities Law).
But it did help me get my job, and that's not something that can be overlooked obviously, especially in the current legal job market.
I am interested in securities law myself, although there isn't much of a market for such in the state I'll likely be practicing in.
Thanks for the info.
Can't you just call up the IRS for info and clarification?

But... why did you print out a copy of it in the first place?
"Among the group's grievances are low numbers of black faculty and administrators, poor retention rates among black students and a lack of programs aimed at supporting black students."
How in God's name are "poor retention rates among black students" at OU anyone's problem other than the individual student?
It is probably not OU's fault. But the general problem blacks have.
You can also argue that when a racist denies a black person a job, it's not the racists fault either. It's really the black guys fault.
If you get into the school and can't stay in, that's no one's problem but your own. Or did you have other nonsense you wanted to spin?
Gold Coast authorities are weighing a novel solution to the pongy problem of people peeing in the city's streets.
The local council is considering whether a special type of paint - designed to splash urine back on sneaky leakers - might encourage people to do the right thing.
The German city of Hamburg is already using the paint in the St Pauli nightclub district, where walls in urination hot spots have been coated and signs erected warning: "Don't pee here. We pee back."

The Offended White Guys Brigade shall have a military parade in honour of this victory. Full dress uniform of course.
I'm wearing flip flops. And gym shorts tight enough that you can see the outline of my wang. My wife calls them my "pervert shorts".
Tell her they're your male privilege flaunters.
She likes perverts. Sample size n=1
I just 'bated to this. Thank you for sharing.
Are you my 13 year old son?
How'd you guess the dress uniform? Now the surprise is RUINED.
For over a thousand years, Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of a triumph - a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeters and musicians and strange animals from the conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conqueror rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children, robed in white, stood with him in the chariot, or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror, holding a golden crown, and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.
My name's Grand Moff Serious Man and I have to live up to my moniker and piss in everyone's Cheerios.
Interestingly I was actually going to use the term 'Triumph' instead of military parade but I didn't know if everyone would 'get it'. I should not have doubted.
Well I live with a girl who majored in classics and knows a ton about ancient Rome. We were discussing that last night.
It's actually difficult to determine what Roman triumphs were like since most written sources from the time are exaggerated to serve as tales of moral instruction rather than accurate histories.
We could use someone whispering "Memento mori" in the ear of our "leadership" right now.
Do we get to strangle someone at the end?
Do the uniforms have tassels?! I LOVE tassels!
Booby tassels for the lady libertarians.
I'll inform my wife
I am now informed this is the reason there are no female libertarians
Good. Don't ask. Inform.
Sooooo...like, three sets of booby tassels.
There's plenty of moobs we could fit them on instead.
Tassels are only allowed in order to be immediately stripped off in disgrace, a la the Dreyfus Affair.
J'accuse!
Yes but the tassels are attached to pasties.
I'm having cheese and crackers to celebrate

Here's the Utah bill.
It limits the prerogatives of employers and property owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation and "gender identity" - but it at least makes up for that by limiting the prerogatives of employers to limit their workers' on-the-job speech and off-the-clock political activities.
This illustrates what I've said before - that restricting free association under the name of "public accomodations" is actually considered a *moderate* measure in comparison with SSM.
And since SSM seems on the way in, and since SSM is more extreme than public accomodations laws, it would seem to follow that we're getting more and more public accomodations laws.
And now they have a talking point - "if even Utah can pass such laws, then of course [name of jurisdiction] should pass such laws, too - you don't want to be more backward than *Utah,* do you?"
Oops, link:

Robert Reich's "3 Biggest Myths" =
"job creators" are CEOs, corporations, and the rich, whose taxes must be low in order to induce them to create more jobs
Rubbish. The real job creators are the vast middle class and the poor, whose spending induces businesses to create jobs....
The critical choice is between the "free market" or "government."
Baloney. The free market doesn't exist in nature. It's created and enforced by government. And all the ongoing decisions about how it's organized... depend on government.
We should worry most about the size of government
Wrong. When big money from giant corporations and Wall Street inundate our politics, all decisions relating to #1 and #2 above become rigged against average working Americans."
Well i'm glad that's settled. I was worried that the issue was more complex than that.
Apparently Reich thinks that if government were to disappear tomorrow people would cease all economic activity, paralyzed with indecision in the absence of government telling them they can trade and engage in voluntary exchange to satisfy their needs.
He's a flat-out Marxist and should be ignored, even by the socialists.
Also = the middle class and the poor are the ones 'creating value' by turning their government wages into undeserved profits by the evil, corporate product & service providers
The Cart is Pushing the Horse!
We should worry most about the size of government
Wrong. When big money from giant corporations and Wall Street inundate our politics, all decisions relating to #1 and #2 above become rigged against average working Americans."
Even if you believe the 'giant corporations are what make government irresponsible and evil' logic, isn't this still a perfect example of why you should be concerned about the size of the government? I mean, if giant evil corporation manage the government now, how is expanding the government and allowing them to control more aspects of 'average working Americans' lives a good thing?
sarcasmic has touched on this subject before I believe...
Like I'd ever listen to a guy who's too short to serve in the army.
And clearly making government bigger will induce giant corporations and Wall Street from inundating our politics with their big money to rig decisions against average working Americans, right?
People who believe shit like this are either mentally handicapped or liars.
Mein Gott! He's broken the code!
It is amazing that in number 1 he simultaneously says consumer spending drives business but then that taxes will have no affect on business.

Scandal!
Your clues:
1. He resigned his office after 29 women came forward with claims of sexual harassment, abuse, and assaults. His denials of any wrongdoing were eventually contradicted by his own diaries boasting of his sexual conquests.
2. This staunch advocate of abstinence and family values resigned to avoid an ethics investigation into his admitted extramarital affair with a female staffer. Famously, he and she had made a public video in which they both extolled the virtues of sexual abstinence.
3. He was found intoxicated with stripper. He was re-elected anyway, but resigned after giving an intoxicated press conference from the strip club's dressing room.
William Henry Harrison.
I should stress each clue refers to a different scandal.
Um, ... Samuel Pepys?
Derpetologist, I want to thank you for this. Not knowing the answer to any of these I went in search of enlightenment and found Wiki's "List of Federal Political Sex Scandals in the U.S." page. So am I the only one that only hears about how loose black women are only from activists try to change the image? I thought the stereotype was that black women were to racist to sleep with anyone that wasn't a black man.
As opposed to their component cells?
Ah.
Thanks.
"black women were too racist to sleep with anyone that wasn't a black man"
This has been my experience, particularly among Boomers and Gen-Xers. However, the younger black ladies (those in their mid-twenties) seem far more open to dating outside of their race.
I still don't think what she said makes one thimbleful of sense though.
