Douglas Butzier, Libertarian Senate Candidate from Iowa, Dies in Plane Crash
Sad news via Radio Iowa regarding the passing of Libertarian Party Senate candidate Douglas Butzier:

The pilot who died in a plane crash near Dubuque late last night was the Libertarian candidate for Iowa's U.S. Senate seat.
The family of Douglas Butzier has confirmed Butzier was piloting the plane that crashed near the Dubuque Regional Airport at about 11 p.m. Monday. No one else was in the plane.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine plane took off from the Ankeny Regional Airport at about 10 p.m. and crashed at about 11 p.m., about a mile north of the runway in Dubuque. Butzier, who was an ER doctor, was born in Mount Pleasant and grew up in Cedar Falls. Butzier, who was 59 years old, has been working at Dubuque Mercy Hospital for the past 17 years.

Quick! Get Jesse Walker to cover this in his book before it comes out in paperback!
That sucks. I saw this early this.morning and wondered if he was the L candidate when they didn't mention his.party.
He wouldn't have wanted the FAA to investigate the crash.
I can see the NTSB's report now. "Probable cause: The pilot's decision to continue flight into instrument meteorological conditions brought on by an overconfidence in his abilities caused by his political ideology opposing governmental intervention in aviation safety."
He had to fly. He didn't want to face any charges of being a hypocrite by driving on the ROADZ to the next campaign event.
Even worse he was probably using ATC services.
That's sad. Odds on the powers that be making it impossible to select a replacement candidate?
If he was a D or R they'd immediately waive ballot access requirements. Since he's not a major party they'll stonewall. Hell, in most areas if he were the incumbent he'd win the election and the governor would appoint his.wife to the office.
The state is already taking mail-in ballots. The election is set.
Surely you mean the fix is in.
His 1/2 percent vote will have the same effect whether he was alive on election day or not.
And I will enjoy voting for a dead libertarian instead of two living major party candidates.
Deceased candidates have won before. Usually their spouse takes the seat until a special election is held.
I think it would be better if they blocked them from naming a replacement and he still won.
If a dead guy can beat John Ashcroft, why can't this guy beat the two other loser candidates?
Try stealing those precious Republican votes from HELL mr. Libertarian!
Probably too soon but I couldn't resist.
I laughed.
Hey, Iowa, if you need help in sending off a pol who dies in the middle of the election season, just ask us Minnesodans.
We can set you up with our Paul Wellstone special. You won't be disappointed.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck
So are we Libertarians going to blame Barack Obama for "murdering" Butzier by supporting the Democrat candidate, thereby "forcing" Butzier to campaign and take the ill-fated flight?
Because if memory serves, that is exactly what the Democrats accused Bush of doing when Wellstone died in a plane crash. And I am sure that Team Blue will be fully consistent and willingly accept its role in Butzier's "murder."
I'm sure Karl Rove had something to do with this.
Plainly he was assassinated by wicked Progressive operatives who knew he'd lead a revolution by exposing how nobody needed to follow them anymore!
(This is recast from an actual claim I heard in internet chats from someone when Wellstone's plane crashed.
Ah, crazy. You can't even make it up.)
