Florida Speed Trap Town Dissolving Police Force
State was investigating possible illegal ticket quotas
WALDO, Fla. -- The City Council of a tiny north Florida town known as one of the nation's worst speed traps has voted to disband its small police force.
The Waldo City Council on Tuesday voted 4-1 to eliminate the department just weeks after the chief and interim chief resigned because of state investigations into many issues, including an illegal ticket quota.\
City Manage Kim Worley told the Gainesville Sun that a Florida Department of Law Enforcement audit found many expensive computer and facilities fixes were needed, a cost the small town cannot afford.

Not bad only over 20 years overdue.
More like 30. Waldo was notorious when I was in college in the early 80s, since it lies on the shortest route from Gainesville to Jacksonville.
For every dirt-bag "officer" that ever worked there?.up yours.
There is a plethora of small cities in the country that do NOT need their own police department. Contracting with the county sheriff for coverage is all that was ever necessary in the first place.
Piperton, Tennessee, are you reading this?
My town is like that. The best part is that there are no town ordinances, since the troopers and sheriffs will only enforce state law.
That means fireworks and guns, all day long! The sound of freedom!
