A.M. Links: U.S. Blames Russia For Creating Conditions for Likely Accidental Downing of Malaysia Flight, International Flights to Israel Canceled After Hamas Rocket Lands Near Airport, Lois Lerner Hard Drive Scratched But Not Destroyed

-
El-Al U.S. intelligence officials blamed Russia for creating the "conditions" under which Malaysian Air Flight MH-17 was shot down but indicated pro-Russia separatists in Ukraine likely downed the flight by mistake.
- International flights to and from Israel are being canceled, with the Federal Aviation Administration banning them for 24 hours, after a rocket launched from Gaza landed near Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport. Israeli airline El-Al will continue to operate flights and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg will be flying to Israel to demonstrate that it's safe. John Kerry, meanwhile, is back in the region for more diplomacy.
- The hard drive containing Lois Lerner e-mails of interest to House investigators may not have been destroyed after all—an Internal Revenue Service tech expert now says the drive was merely scratched.
- The Tea Party-backed Barry Loudermilk defeated 2008 Libertarian presidential candidate and former Republican representative Bob Barr in a Republican congressional primary run-off in Georgia. On the GOP's senate side, businessman David Purdue defeated longtime representative Jack Kingston.
- The New York Police Department will be retraining all of its officers after a man a group of officers tried to subdue with a chokehold died. The police commissioner also said he wouldn't be surprise if the federal government brought civil rights charges against the cops involved.
- Sixty seven percent of voting respondents in a Rasmussen poll said Americans were more divided now than they were four years ago.

Hide and seek.
Seriously. What's up with that?
Yeah, it wasn't at its normal place at 9:03.
Squirrel mission creep.
Yep, that's my new band name.
"Ladies and germs, put your hands together for ... Drax the Destroyer, and Squirrel. Mission. Creep!"
Yeah, that'll work.
We would then proceed to perform our new single: "You were pregnant so we kicked you in the stomach!"
Wait...no...that's another band...
OT, but posting it here so the commentariat can see. ATTN all DC metro area reasonoids: there'll be a meetup today at O' Shaughnessy's Pub in Alexandria. Should be getting started around 5:30ish. Come for some cheap booze and smoking bartenders. To get their by train, either take the blue line towards Franconia or the yellow line towards Huntington and exit King St. Questions? Email me.
Wish I could make it, but there tain't no way.
Virginia might as well be the other side of the universe, when it comes to rush hour travel from Maryland.
Hello.
Sixty seven percent of voting respondents in a Rasmussen poll said Americans were more divided now than they were four years ago.
We replaced the decider with the divider?
No, we replaced the Bush with the Tush.
Dude...he is a community organizer. You know, he builds schools and hospitals and such, he brings people together organizing communities.
You didn't build that.
Either did he.
Sixty seven percent of voting respondents in a Rasmussen poll said Americans were more divided now than they were four years ago:
"And it's all the other TEAMs fault!"
Ah, the joy of not being in either half of TEAM BE RULED.
Dude...that's awesome. Anagram for the win.
You new here?
No, but I did just come out of a 9 month drunken haze. Bloody vomit is a nice sobering agent.
yEEE - OW - Zers!
Yeah, the life expectancy has definitely been truncated.
Take care of yourselves kids!
24/7 FTW
The New York Police Department will be retraining all of its officers after a man a group of officers tried to subdue with a chokehold died.
Officers must be aware of their surroundings and confiscate any recorded evidence immediately.
Retraining them to not be trained in the chokehold which they are already not allowed to use?
How about throwing some pigs in prison with the general population at Rikers? I bet that would get their attention.
Did you read the NY Post opinion? " We hope people keep in mind this one fact: Eric Garner would be alive today if he hadn't have resisted arrest."
Untaxed cigarettes are a scourge. What Eric Garner did was practically treason, stealing from the City and state like that. Punk ass bitch got what he deserved.
Ultimately, Eric Garner was only a step down from Hitler.
\ultimate sarc
Of course it's sarcasm. He's worse than Hitler.
(at least according to the cops I've seen posting on the matter)
Hitler was against smoking, so obviously this guy is worse.
You know who else was only ... oh, never mind.
Mech-Hitler?
The grammar police ought to put that writer in a chokehold.
Oops. The have was mine. Ignore it.
The grammar police ought to put that writer Slammer in a chokehold?
I'll sue the pants off of them if I live! Then everyone pays!
Weird Al would probably agree.
http://m.youtube.com/index?#/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc
Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of that. Like the 17 year-old who broke curfew and run away cops wouldn't have had to beat her up. I've read people claim both case were "justified."
People are mental.
Mix a few parts asshole cops with statist politicians who illegalize everything and you get a death cake
Throw in some right/left derp and you have some frosting
Not surprising from the Post. They worship our heroes in uniform regardless of their actions.
...an Internal Revenue Service tech expert now says the drive was merely scratched.
It was itching to hide its secrets.
Well thankfully it wasn't a flesh wound...
How do you scratch a plate on a HD?
I was wondering that myself.
You open the case and run a pocket knife along the platter.
You break open the case and slice a letter opener through it. Duh.
Hard drive crash. The literal, historic meaning of "hard drive crash". It's where the read/write head contacts (crashes into) the surface of a disc platter, scratching the magnetic coating and causing data loss. This was a common occurrence back in the day, but not so much recently due to better drive technology. The most common causes of HDD crashes are mechanical shock or foreign matter in the drive.
Without knowing the details, the story is somewhat plausible on face value, but still very, very suspicious.
Also, under normal conditions the heads float a few thousandths of an inch above the platter on the cushion of air generated by the rotation of the discs. This is the Bernoulli effect.
Between better drive design, shock-proofing and active drive protection it's vanishingly rare for legit head crashes to actually happen anymore, and if it did, the drive would probably be destroyed anyway unless the drive contained something of nuclear launch code importance since data recovery would be massively expensive to the extent it would even be possible.
Good thing there was nothing important on it, like information that could show whether the President instructed the IRS to target his political opponents.
Lucky for us.
By important, I meant what a government IT admin would think important.
Yes, I agree that crashes are vanishingly rare, which is why I wrote "very, very suspicious" above.
But HDDs do develop bad sectors (due to crashes or other issues). The computer deals with that by marking those sectors as bad so that no files will be written there and in most cases the worst that happens is that you lose a file which was occupying the bad sectors. If the file is part of the OS then you may have to reinstall the OS, etc.
We do in-house data recovery by mounting "bad" drives on a PC with a good OS, and then copying as much data as we can get. However, we rarely do this anymore (last decade) because of the increasing robustness of HDDs. This is standard standard IT-shop level stuff.
We used to have software-based recovery tools, but don't use them anymore because of increased HDD robustness.
I'm not in IT, but on the few drives I've ridden into bad sector territory I use dd to do a sector-level copy to a good drive and recover as much as I can from there. Storage is so cheap nowadays I have triple redundant backups of all my shit though. When my main drive and backup drive both died within 2 weeks of each other about 8 years ago I decided enough was enough.
How do you scratch a plate on a HD?
Like this:
From here. I think if you drop a computer it could happen.
Yes, dropping a computer with a running HDD will do that. But modern laptops have shock-resistant drives and I've seen them survive rough handling without data loss.
The HDD's in desktop units are less shock-resistant, and it's best practice to power off the computer before moving it.
it's best practice to power off the computer before moving it.
The 3 foot long power cord all but necessitates it.
Yes, dropping a computer with a running HDD will do that. But modern laptops have shock-resistant drives and I've seen them survive rough handling without data loss.
Yea, I'm not buying it. I think our newer computers come with solid state hard drives and I know the older ones had "drop guard" hdds. So I still think they all should go to jail.
The more info that comes out, the more suspicious it all becomes. And it started off as very, very suspicious.
Would love to see this go to trial with witnesses testifying under oath and at-risk of contempt and perjury penalties.
I doubt the IRS is buying workstations with SSD's. They probably aren't that cutting edge, considering their apparent records retention systems.
So I assume there is surveillance footage of Lois doing an overhead Hulk smash with her laptop.
There was, but they recycled those tapes.
Also scratched.
Scratched, then lost, found, recycled and lost again.
It's a scratch tape.
If you were kicking and pounding on the case while the drive was spinning, you could maybe cause the heads to contact the platters.
I recommend everyone dismantle the next harddrive they replace, they're a real marvel inside.
...tooo slow
I always take apart old drives and keep the magnets.
"How do you scratch a plate on a HD?"
With sandpaper and some elbow grease?
I will not buy this hard drive...it is scratched.
My IRS is full of heels!
To add on to this already fully covered thread:
Data can be recovered from scratched platters and even burnt ones. The best method of destroying data so the likes of the gubmint can't recover it is to quite literally pull all the magnetic material off it via a monster magnet. EVEN THEN I have heard of studies where they check atomic level magnetic imprints in the plastic that supposed can be picked up. Not sure on that but at this point I think a little physical damage is never a problem if the drive is worth enough.
As for the shock proof...I dropped my MBP from about 3 feet onto concrete, cried, shit myself, picked it up, it rebooted and said "Hey asshole you dropped me" and then went on working fine to this day and that was 4 years ago.
"an Internal Revenue Service tech expert now says the drive was merely scratched."
I think you meant EX IRS tech expert
Israeli airline El-Al will continue to operate flights and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg will be flying to Israel to demonstrate that it's safe.
Israel says thanks but no thanks.
Part of me was hoping that this would demonstrate it's unsafe.
ISWYDT
And then to demonstrate that Israeli food isn't. All your knafeh are belong to us
Shwarma and falafel from small shops in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv can be spectacular. You get away you Israeli food hater.
the point was that Mayor Bloomberg makes war on tasty food.
ABSOLUTE BEST shwarma I ever had was drunk at 3:00am in Amsterdam.
The magical place appeared in a darkly lit alley. The vendor spoke with a melodious sing-song voice. It was a pleasant evening and I was headed in for the night not planning to eat but his angelic middle eastern accent pulled me in. I ordered a shwarma with hot sauce. My feet didn't touch the ground until I woke up the next morning. Trying to express this to my friends they didn't understand. They didn't believe me. So I searched, in vain, for that magical victuals cart. Alas, I feel the portal to heaven had already closed. A little sadness remains in my stomach to this day.
You know what Israel, you can keep that nanny piece of shit.
Or give him to the Palistinians, either one works for me.
I wonder if Bloomberg will preach the tenants of gun control and civilian disarmament to the Israeli population... I sure that would be a smashing success..
...but indicated pro-Russia separatists in Ukraine likely downed the flight by mistake.
Was anyone suggesting they did it on purpose?
Who among has a little accident from time to time? 747, F-16, it's an easy mistake to make.
*has not had
I swear your correction wasn't here when I typed my comment! 🙂
Who among whom?
Accidents happen.
It happens sometimes. Planes just explode. Natural causes.
Plate o' shrimp.
Especially on El Al.
I doubt they meant to.
What is funny, though, is the way the media is just swallowing whole the rather ludicrous claim that it was a Ukrainian separatist militia member who pulled the trigger on one of Russia's more advanced anti-aircraft missiles.
AM links are demoted to a rarely-used section of thw Web site? How does this fit into the business plan?
You think they have a business plan?
BWA-HAAA_HAAAA_AAAHH
FXX to marathon every single Simpsons in chronological order. Simpson's World website has some interesting features like:
"*Every episode ever, in an order that's easy to browse, but also easy to search.
*A search function that allows you to quickly find ? and share across social media ? your favorite "Simpsons" joke or scene.
*Ability to curate your own playlists of episodes and/or scenes, and a learning function that will then recommend similar ones for you to try or revisit.
*An exhaustive episode guide that can be opened up to run parallel to the episode, featuring historical references, behind-the-scenes info, quotes, etc. You can also have each episode's script scrolling along as you watch it, and you can excerpt and share parts of the script, as well."
Instead of all that searching and recommendation garbage, I suggest just watching seasons 2-9 and being done with it.
Glad you skipped season 1 in your comment.
I was a late-comer (1994) to The Simpsons amongst my crew solely because I watched the first season.
Senator Jacqui Lambie last night apologised to anyone she may have offended, particularly the elderly, with comments on her preference for well-endowed men.
http://www.dailytelegraph.com......6997971833
She also said rich. Will she apologize to the poor?
She really needs to find a needle dicked homeless guy and fuck him. That seems like a good way to apologize.
PC dreck is everywhere I guess.
John Kerry, meanwhile, is back in the region for more diplomacy.
Whew. That's fortunate.
I'd rather have him affecting nothing over there than actively fucking up our reputation somewhere else.
"I'd rather have him affecting nothing over there than actively fucking up our reputation somewhere else."
To be fair, our reputation in the middle east is pretty bad right now anyway. Publicly killing and skull-fucking one of their religious zealots is probably the only practical way to make it any worse. I'd rather Kerry didn't wander off to piss some other group of people off, somewhere else. Maybe we'll get lucky, and someone will make an example out of him over there..
Bloomberg *and* Kerry?
What did they ever do to deserve this?
John Kerry, effete loser.
You call that a foreign minister? This is a foreign minister
Not up to par with my Aussie diplomats. Guess she's good? Kerry is a gigolo and mooch who married well.
She's getting some plaudits for getting the Russians to back the UN resolution on MH17. Not that this will get much justice for the victims, but it's still forced them to at least pretend killing nearly 300 people is a bit of a problem.
It's her death stare that I love, of course. Apparently she's pretty nice, but she looks like she'd rather crush your balls than shake your hand, which is probably useful for a diplomat
"..she looks like she'd rather crush your balls than shake your hand,.."
But.. can't it be both?
is back in the region for more diplomacy.
Is that like plastic surgery? or addiction treatment?
Kerry (to Jews and Arabs):"Who wants to diplome!"
/Who let the dogs out! Repeat.
Random Interviewer: "Mr. Secretary, what is your position on the escalating violence?"
Kerry: "FIRE BAD!"
Waffles or impostor?
If waffles: sweet handle!
"Why some members of Congress don't want kids to get HEALTHY food."
Bloomberg is on the case.
Somehow I bet that doesn't refer to the folks who push carb-loading.
I see late A.M. Links here, ma'am
And lame alt-text: Dissappoint, I Am.
Eight cops, a couple attorneys, and some utility workers can't evict a squatter. Although they did impound her Audi and Lexus. She kept her BMW...

Mom explains why she teaches her kids not to share.
Delve into the comments if you dare.
It'll train the other kids to become greedy little shits?
Then share your opinion with us, like Fist shares first commenting.
Ted, read the article. It's short, on one page, and even your pedal-powered PC can load the page
From the comments:
"Wait" as opposed to "NOT HAVE BECAUSE IT ISN'T YOURS, DAMMIT!"
Remember that the author of that comment may have soft-phrased it. We all know how unpopular the concept of ownership is.
We all know how unpopular the concept of ownership is.
I don't know about that. It's the concept of other people having ownership of stuff that's problematic. What's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine.
"Ownership" is theft... or, so I'm told...
Niiiiice.
You like inflicting Disqus on people, don't you? 🙂
Yep, that's the mindset we're up against, IFH.
I guess his mom didn't teach him that "no means no".
My toddler niece was pushing a play baby stroller down a hall when my cousin's son (about the same age) tried to grab it away from her. She yelled, "no, share!" and offered him one of the handles while she held the other. He made a grab for the whole thing. She screamed "I SAID SHARE", hip checked him into the wall and ran off with the toy.
My uncle (the boy's grandfather) started laughing and said "well at least she won't grow up to be a commie."
Very occasionally my family makes me smile.
From the commentz: We have seen similar situations where 'sharing' wasn't being used as a kind, golden-rule sort of way of doing things, but as a tool smart kids use to steal from others.
So there is some hope.
Isn't that less about why she teaches her kids not to share, and more about how other mothers are fucking thieving bitches? Jesus christ.
The takeaway I got is that the author is a ratbagging teafucker for not teaching her child to be a perfect little Communist.
I did.
"I think what most people are missing regarding this article is that by teaching our children that sharing is the only way to go, we have only taught them that they have an undeserved right to anything that comes across their field of vision. This is the mentality of our present generation and the mentality of most of the responses. Most of these people dont look for the alternatives and therefore cannot teach that skill. The truely lazy among us dont go looking for something else, they just get mad that they (or their child) cant have what they want immediately. Learning to share is important but learning to look for alternatives encourages creativity and that is how our society advances."
I think he's describing political progressives.
Encouraging. My little one is taught to ask and if the answer is no then she can A. do/find something else or B. Start the haggling. I always like to watch B. but she often cares so little she wont bother. I also tell her constantly that if it is hers she can do with it whatever she pleases (this eventually results in it breaking and her being sad, we are nearly out of this phase) and if she doesn't want to share it she doesn't have to. The situation where it is NOT hers but "community property" we typically follow the "possession is 9/10s" rule. But mostly I try to point out how community property is shit and your stuff is better anyway.
WARNING: Teaching your child about bargaining and exchange of value WILL result in lengthy bedtime negotiations and future bath/pool/ice cream planning. Be forewarned, and be prepared.
The comments are basically correct.
The mom is right about the first scenario; wrong about the second one (where her kid used the same toy at the rec center - not his toy - for an hour and a half.
Pro-Life Group Disrupts Memorial Service at Unitarian Church
http://uptownmessenger.com/201.....e-to-city/
Lol.
Literally!
It must have been hard for Bo to figure out who to root for in this situation. On the one hand, a SoCon fundie religious service was interrupted by peaceful yet vocal protestors exercising their 1A rights. On the other, the people interrupting the SoCon fundie religious service were, themselves, SoCon fundies.
SoCon fundie Unitarians? That doesn't seem right.
He doesn't understand it but he's rolling with what he gleaned, it's PM in the AM.
That's the joke. That you're such a asspained retard as it regards religion that you couldn't differentiate one from another. Like a frog, humor tends to die when you dissect it.
Sure it was PM, sure it was. Your own, private joke.
Bo thinks a point sailing over his head somehow reflects poorly on the person making it. Yes, don't I feel foolish.
Never change, Bo. Never change.
No one here understood you to be making your joke, hence, your own private joke.
sort of like you yesterday when you explained your pedantry as joking. sure. you always joke about that.
Are you talking about the Maya Angelou thing? One would have to be Ray Charles level blind to humor to not see that's what that was.
I had to go and never got back to that thread, but fwiw, I figured you were probably joking and went for the grammar Nazi shtick anyway just to take the piss.
Your defense of your comedic timing isn't without a hint of irony all things considered though.
Religious terror in the taint? Hmmm...
On the one hand, a SoCon fundie religious service
Unitarians are SoCon fundies?
Every religious group is ultimately a fundamentalist group. It's the only way to keep everyone in lockstep and aligned with each other, and the only way to differentiate themselves from non-believers.
Unitarians seem barely to even be a religious group at this point.
Very hard to put that "fundamentalist" label on the Unitarian-Universalists. They openly express that all faiths including atheists are welcome. I was raised one and despite the general lefty-progtard politics in matters of faith they are as neutral as you could ask for.
Never trust those damn dirty Neutrals.
"Walk lef side. Ok. Walk right side. Ok. Walk middle? Squash like grape."
/Mr. Miyagi
What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?
Epic fail, PMS.
*Sight*. I shouldn't be surprised subtle humor would be lost on a grown ass man who still PMS is a riot. See http://reason.com/blog/2014/07.....nt_4655837
Jesus, I'm as bad as John this morning. *Sigh, *who still thinks...
And you'll never even be the worst like Nicole.
Great, kick me while I'm down why don't you.
It was funny the first time, then it turned obligatory when you started acting-out about it. Don't want to be called "PMS"? Stop acting like you're in the throes of hormonal crampiness.
It was funny the first time, then it turned obligatory when you started acting-out about it.
FWIW, I finally told you to fuck off with that after literally months of you using "PMS" to the exclusion of my actual username like a childish retard, in every discussion, regardless of context, and me ignoring it. Even though it does nothing but reflect your grade school mentality, it gets old after a while, as dealing with children often will.
That First Amendment sure is a bitch.
First Amendment on private property?
I don't see anywhere in the First Amendment where speech is unprotected on private property. Do you? I have said many things within the confines of the private property of others that some in attendance were uncomfortable with. Don't like it? Ask me to leave.
That said, the 'owners' of the property could just ask them to leave. And if they don't then take the perilous recourse of calling the cops.
However, what will the cops do when they get there, especially if a sign outside the Church says 'All are Welcome'?
"I don't see anywhere in the First Amendment where speech is unprotected on private property."
The First Amendment is a restriction on the government, Restoras, not private property owners.
HOLY SHIT!
My comments are actually getting through to MNG? No...must be the fog or war or something. I am going to get more coffee.
I don't see anywhere in the First Amendment where speech is unprotected on private property.
Well, depends on what you mean by "protected". The property owner can certainly tell you to shut the fuck up or leave.
I think that disrupting their service is legitimate grounds to kick them out and have them removed for trespassing if they don't cooperate, "All are Welcome" sign or no.
I think that disrupting their service is legitimate grounds to kick them out and have them removed for trespassing if they don't cooperate
That seems to be exactly what happened from the report. They asked them to stay quiet a leave, some stayed and remained silent, some refused to remain silent and were escorted out.
To repeat:
That said, the 'owners' of the property could just ask them to leave. And if they don't then take the perilous recourse of calling the cops.
You don't have a 'right' though to do that sort of thing. But regardless, you know, there exists some realm perhaps beneath what you are entitled to do by right and what is still immoral and being a jerk. Disrupting a funeral service is perhaps one of these.
Speaking your mind is immoral? Interesting.
Expressing an opinion that others find offensive and/or inappropriate IS being a jerk. No qualms there.
While I find it a little disturbing that I don't have that right, at least in terms of exercising it on private property, I suppose it is reasonable from a freedom of association stand point.
"Speaking your mind is immoral? Interesting."
I'm sorry Restoras, but I really don't feel like debating this further, one either thinks that going to a person's memorial service and denouncing the people having the service as godless abominations is awful or they don't I guess.
Personally, I prefer that people who have strong opinions be free to express them as openly and as much as possible. But maybe that's just me.
The expression of an opinion shouldn't be labeled moral or immoral. Actions based on those opinions - sure. But not the expression of such.
Groups and individuals with extreme views that are allowed to express them more or less openly are easier for everyone else to avoid.
Disrupting a funeral service is perhaps one of these.
Not to pick nits, but there interrupted a moment of silence before a normal service, not a funeral.
Prolife groups need to hold themselves to higher standards than their opponents. Leave the disruption of private meetings to the choicers.
Props to you for that integrity.
That's a nice compliment, especially since I have never indicated any support for such tactics.
The 1st Amendment is *our* friend, not yours. It lets us reach out to women in problem pregnancies and tell them about options other than killing - eg, adoption, raising the child.
The choicers are on the horns of a dilemma. Allow us to speak, and we might persuade people. Censor us, and honest choicers are forced to take our side.
The guys in the above article need to realize that if they disrupt choicer speech they won't have sympathetic articles in the mainstream media about how the choicers lured them into a trap.
http://articles.latimes.com/20.....p-20140331
The compliment was sincere, props to you for being able to condemn the actions of actors who might share your pro-life views. That's integrity there.
Let me compliment you on your integrity for not supporting censorship of prolifers, as some of your fellow choicers do.
Thanks, I noted the other day that Mass. is rushing to try to implement another liberty violating law in the wake of their previous 'buffer zone'law being struck down.
Jesus, why don't you two just get a room already?
To be fair, there was an element of sarcasm in my "praise" - "you made wee-wee in the toilet, not in your pants, you're such a *good* boy!"
See what happens when you try to reach out to them, Bo?
If Hamas shoots down a US airliner flying into Tel Aviv, Obama will blame Israel.
He'd probably be too busy fundraising to give a shit.
Fair point. I stand corrected. Valarie Jarrett will blame Israel.
He'll find out that he blamed Israel on the evening news...
The same Obama who stepped up funding for Israel's Iron Dome?
One had nothing to do with the other. So, yes.
Yes, the same Obumbles who kept his mouth shut about a cease fire until the Israelis began hitting back in earnest.
Are you seriously going to make me defend the guy? It's not like anything relevant (like hundreds of dead people) happened between those two points in time, right?
It's not like anything relevant (like hundreds of dead people Hamas rockets aimed at Israeli cities and three kidnapped and murdered Israeli teenagers) happened between those two points in time, right?
I wonder what the chances would be of Iron Dome accidentally hitting a plane if a rocket were fired in the vicinity of the airport when planes are in the area? One would hope the designers had some sort of IFF protection built into it.
Probably not too high on paper. But if the fairly incompetent militarily industrial complex had something to do with it, I wouldn't be taking bets.
fucking english/lack of sleep/irish coffee. MILITARY.
A lack of Irish Coffee is a terrible thing!
Irish coffee is just as bad as Four Loko!
He has to show the world his tough side.
So would Bo.
'Cause Jooos or something.
If anyone else has seen Zaytsev's racialist postings on Volokh in the past one would know the rich irony of him engaging in race baiting.
I've never posted on Volokh.
If not you've got a doppleganger posting about racialist IQ stuff over there quite a bit, though I haven't seen them recently.
The only posts I've made here about IQ are ones expressing skepticism of the entire concept.
I really hope it's a case of one of our resident trolls running a false flag.
Notice Bo dispenses with any pretense of arguing the fact he's got hisself a little j0000 problem and goes straight to the tu quoque.
Yes, I should engage inane race baiting on a logical plane.
PM likes standards so much, he's got double of them!
Regal Entertainment doesn't project as much as you do.
Did it really take you 21 minutes to come up with that one?
As deflating as it might be for you to discover this, I don't hover over your every post F5'ing until a new reply appears.
And yet, as one can see here, you eventually do respond to nearly every post of mine...
And in an open-ended, threaded, online discussion forum of all places.
Wow, you really can't resist, can you? It's pretty deep seated, this upset.
You really bring out the crazy in the commenters, Bo. I don't know whether to admire you or detest you. Perhaps I shall do both.
Right wing people who lurk on libertarian boards seem to be easily upsettable.
We should invite 'em to more cocktail parties to soften 'em up.
You bring the Appletinis and I'll bring the organic, free range hors d'oeuvres.
Don't forget the artisanal mayo! God, I love that stuff!
As soon as I get the biography of the chicken whose eggs were used in the making of it to ensure his life was one free of stress and industrialized agricultural techniques, I plan to buy it.
Right wing people who lurk on libertarian boards seem to be easily upsettable.
And by "right wing people", Bo means every person on Reason who has ever disagreed with him on anything from tax policy to food trucks. This place is filthy with SOCONZ!!!!!!!!(!!!!)!!!!!! Some of them are so deeply embedded they have a long, multi-year history of taking positions much more libertarian than Bo. That's just how far they're willing to go to further their agenda. You never wondered why Bo drinks only distilled water, or rainwater, and only pure-grain alcohol?
"And by "right wing people", Bo means every person on Reason who has ever disagreed with him on anything from tax policy to food trucks."
That's a nice charge, but I certainly don't mean that. People like Episarch or Warty or Fluffy have disagreed with me with some, ahem, vehemence, and I've never said nor would I ever think they are social conservatives.
But I think you are (or rather, are sympathetic to them). You're clearly bothered to an odd degree when I post things criticizing them.
"I've never said nor would I ever think they are social conservatives."
Or 'right wing' in any way
You're clearly bothered to an odd degree when I post things criticizing them.
Your problem is that you mistake intentionally conflate pointing out and/or mocking your aspie-level obsession with SOCONZ!!!!!!(!!!!)!!!!! for a defense of whatever given policy you are rightly or wrongly ascribing to the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy at any given time.
Hence you find yourself as you now do, so far through the looking glass that a person who supports full repeal of all controls on both recreational and therapeutic drugs; a legal and unencumbered free market in prostitution; unrestricted access to any and all forms of pornography and obscene/vulgar materials; the termination of state marriage licensing and all state marriage benefits; repeal of all protected class legislation, including most especially current employment protections for religious and other protected groups; legalization and deregulation of all casino and non-casino based gambling; and the termination of public charity, including public funding of private and religious non-profits, among other things, is, in your fevered imagination, a dreaded SOCON!!!!!(!!!!)!!!! (or at the very least a fellow-traveler).
Joe McCarthy drank himself to death coping with a level of paranoia that doesn't match yours.
Libertarians are 'right-wing people'--no matter how much some loathe being called that.
And it's pretty easy to see.
Dems and the Left hate libertarians for what they believe.
Republicans and others on the Right get pissed at Libertarians because their candidates 'steal' votes from rep candidates.
It depends on how the newscaster spins it.
...and right after the interview, she broke out in a version of Anita Baker's "Ring My Bell".
Anita Baker? 🙂
(You meant Anita Ward.)
WTF? This should have been a reply to IFH.
It would be funnier if Anita Bryant had done a version of "Ring My Bell".
Since it was you who replied, I was trying for an Anita Louise joke, but I couldn't crack that nut.
You can bust it though, presumably
"It is unbelievable that we cannot get a simple, straight answer from the IRS about this hard drive," said committee Chairman Dave Camp.
You know, Dave, Congress does have the power of the purse strings.
The government can just print a little more money while the IRS is shut down indefinitely.
I think the IRS is busy trying to re-create some email that they can share...when it's ready, they say they found it...and there is nothing to see!
And that will allow the media and the left to proclaim "fake scandal, time to move on".
Ohhhhh...they will fuck that up sure as shit. The dates will be wrong, the recipients wrong, something.

I haven't heard much since they cut the IRS enforcement budget by about 1B, but that was just in committee so I doubt it would see the light of day.

"New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg will be flying to Israel to demonstrate that it's safe."
Mayor Bloomberg said he was always happy to travel to a place that is completely safe because there are no guns
...And people don't drink too much sugary drinks.
Bloomberg will be flying to Israel to demonstrate that it's safe.
Now, *that* has hilarity potential.
No shit.
Not New York related but...have the deaths in this new slapfight in Israel surpassed all those shot on the 4th of July in Chicago? I'm a little too lazy to look it up. I'm sure the answer is yes, but I bet it took more than one night for it to happen.
If you count the Palestinians, yes, and by a lot. If you count only the Israelis, yes, but by less, and it took longer. But it was the whole 4th long weekend and most of the violence happened on the Sunday night.
If you think it's anything like Gaza here though, you're fucking retarded.
I did go to public school so I won't argue the retarded thing. I was just trying to point out that a city with gun control can look like a war zone from time to time.
A city that now has significantly looser gun control laws than most other northern blue cities. But somehow it's like no one wants to follow that major libertarian victory here in the comments except me.
I'm against gun control but implying that it's the cause of Chicago's crime problem is ridiculous.
Like I said in so many non-PC words. I'm retarded.

Romney absolutely obliterated Obama in that first debate.
Yeah, which is why the O team had to call in the support of the 'heavy' artillery from CNN in the 2nd.
That performance foreshadowed Obama's collapse. If only more people had recognized the sinkhole before it caved in. I'm not saying Romney would have been sunshine and puppies, but Obama has failed utterly on several axes.
I still would have voted Johnson though.
That was only because:
a) Obama was put of sorts because of the Denver altitude and
b) Romney lied so much, Obama was shocked to such a degree that he couldn't respond.

Come on IFH. He is a victim of poor training. How was he supposed to know choking someone could result in their death?
And come one, he's had practice. He only killed a couple of his kids and buried them in the backyard.

He just needs some help with his technique.
Obviously he didn't receive enough training after the first two incidents.
Social Conservative Group: Government Constitutionally Required to Combat Homosexuality
"Governments, especially state governments, have always been assigned the constitutional responsibility of protecting and promoting the 'public health, safety, welfare, and morality,'"...Consider just a few facts revealing the harmful effects of homosexual conduct...homosexual conduct is what is harmful to gays and lesbians to the degree that governments are not only constitutionally allowed, but constitutionally required, to fight such conduct in every legitimate way possible."
http://www.eagleforum.org/proj.....t-5-c.html
uh, does the word 'morality' appear in the US Constitution?
Hey, now, that's unfair. The word "trimester" doesn't, but Team Blue gets to read it in to emanations and penumbras, so why doesn't Team Red get to read their chosen words in?

ACCENTING ALLITERATION
Assonance, not alliteration
I stand corrected (or is that CORRECTED?)
the threat from terrorism remains and has "entered a new and dangerous phase."
"New and dangerous" for the monsters-under-your-bed mob.
"No, seriously! They're out there! And if you don't continue the lease payments on my terrorist-repelling rock, they're gonna come and get you one of these nights."
Maybe it is. You could have written the exact same thing on 9-10-01. Of course, if we knew for sure what the danger was, we would eliminate it.
You and the writer of that article are a great yin and yang of idiocy. The author is convinced he knows a danger exists, even though he can't tell you what it is and you are apparently convinced that no danger could ever possibly exist. Both positions are equally stupid.
My being personally more afraid of terrorism on 09/10/01 would have had absolutely no impact on the outcome one way or the other.
But the government doing something, like say policing up VISA overstays from Saudi Arabia would have. The point is that it is just as stupid to assume nothing can or should be done as it is to assume every measure no matter how extreme is justified. You and Brooks do the former and are nothing but a mirror image of the people you claim to hate.
This idea that we were all completely ignorant to the mere possibility of terrorism on 9/10/2001 is nonsense. When 9/11 happened everybody immediately knew who had done it, because they had tried to blow the same building up a decade earlier, and had been attacking US targets for years.
Laugh now if you must, P -- but when the shoe underwear printer new-phase terrorist gets you, you'll sober up.
Is this like when you're playing an RPG, and you're fighting the final boss, and just when you think you've beaten him he transforms into a new and more powerful form?

Neither can compare to the best movie of the 80s, Gleaming the Cube.
Wasn't Thrashin' the one that was basically West Side Story with skateboards?
I've been trying to convince some friends we need to do Gleaming the Cube and the one where Slater is the pirate radio DJ doubleheader movie night. But drink a lot.
I've been trying to convince some friends we need to do Gleaming the Cube and the one where Slater is the pirate radio DJ doubleheader movie night. But drink a lot.
May still be drunk...
My favorite Slater double feature would be the aforementioned "Pump Up The Volume" and "True Romance"
True Romance is soooo under-rated.
My god...we are through the looking glass people.
Remember when I posted about the dead infants found at the Catholic run homes for 'fallen women' in Ireland? While Eddie focused on where the remains were said to be buried, I argued that the socially conservative environment relegated women with out of wedlock kids to terrible conditions, and many posters here went on the warpath attacking me saying it was just general conditions in Ireland at the time.
Wrong.
"During those years in Ireland, the general infant mortality rate in the general population was 6 percent. But for so-called "illegitimate births," the rate was much higher. According to a 1939 Annual Inspector's Report highlighted by the government investigation, 47 percent of babies at one home in Cork died. Another had 23 percent. And the home in Tuam at the center of recent news reports had an infant mortality rate lower than the others: 15 percent.
'The chance of survival of an illegitimate infant born in the slums and placed with a foster-mother in the slums a few days after birth is greater than that of an infant born in one of our special homes for unmarried mothers,' a 1939 report unearthed by authorities said."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....mm&hpid=z3
I'm sure teh jooos are involved somehow, right bo?
Whatever you say Rev. Al.
Have I stumbled onto Free Republic now?
More like someone (VG) from Free Republic stumbling onto Reason.
Stats are not surprising, the foster mother probably cares less for the child or may be overloaded with kids, but still wants to help.
But would the single mother have had better luck taking care of a kid with no husband - you'd have to find single mothers in 1930s Ireland to find the mortality rate, and it is tougher to raise a kid as a singe mother.
Single motherhood was a problem then and it's a problem now.
My point is that when single motherhood is stigmatized as it was in that socially conservative environment ('fallen women') it exacerbates the admitted challenges of a single, unprepared mother trying to raise a child (and in a generally poverty stricken area).
Gee unwanted children who lacked two parent homes fared worse. That is some shocking stuff there Bo. Clearly, the poverty of prewar Ireland is a devastating indictment of the Catholic Church. Of course, abortion has a 100% mortality rate. so there is that.
And none of the faring worse had to do with the stigmatization of women who had children out of wedlock (not hiring such women or family turning on them because they were 'fallen') or that women having unplanned pregnancies might be less ready to assume care?
A valiant effort, Bo, but those people cannot be shamed.
Bo's original post:
http://reason.com/blog/2014/06.....nt_4557183
So what, Eddy? Why, it's almost as if you're trying to avoid discussing the latest revelation (see what I did there?).
It's not the message that's the problem. It's the messenger.
Um... you just straight up admitted to a logical fallacy.
Now you're going to get a Dickensian inspired insult too, you know.
Not really. I'm saying that even in the rare occasions when Bo is right, he is still an unforgivable prick.
Bo is the sort of fellow who, even if you happen to agree with him, makes you wish you didn't.
"Look at the mortality rate among children born out of wedlock in a poor country! *Now* will you clerico-fascists *finally* agree to destigmatize having children out of wedlock?!!"
It's a neat little package. With Church support Ireland criminalized contraception and abortion, so when young women had sex and got pregnant, whether prepared for it or not, they had to have the baby. With Church support, such women were considered 'fallen' women and the stigmatization made it harder for those who wanted to work and support themselves or turn to their families to do so. So then they had to turn to the charities run by the Church and for which the Church got a nice little stipend for each 'fallen woman' and child. A nice little package indeed.
I'm pretty sure the Church teaches there was only one immaculate conception.
That's right, Eddie, shoot that messenger! And whatever you do, don't discuss the actual issue because those mean people with their facts and logic will just not respect your inherent righteousness!
Made for H&R: Canadian Candidate drops out after masturbation video surfaces.
I, for one, think it would be a better world if politicians were free and encouraged to post masturbation videos. I bet you could learn a lot about a candidate by seeing how he or she pleasures him- or herself.
How about *required* to post their facial expressions, with audio?

IDF Returns to Policy of Home Destruction in the West Bank
"As Israel pummels Hamas's infrastructure inside Gaza, it is also trying to prevent attacks originating from the West Bank and Israel ? by obliterating the houses of the relatives of Palestinians who allegedly have harmed Israelis. It can be hard at times, no doubt. But it goes by really fast - so do your best to enjoy all of it, even the hard times.

NYC Police Consider More Tasers in Wake of Chokehold Criticism
"A senior police official said one change under discussion was the expanded use of Taser stun guns,"
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07......html?_r=0
Unless the NYPD is more restrained in taser use than all other police departments, I can't imagine how their use could possibly be expanded.
I'm sure they can figure out a way to work a Taser into a choking.
I guess they could smash a Taser into someone's Adam's apple or something.
I like the story form like 1990 something where the NYPD soaks a guy with alcohol solvent pepper spray and when it doesn't work they tase him and his now alcohol soaked clothing bursts into flames.
I don't have a link, it may be apocryphal.
Here's a report of that happening in Wisconsin in 2005:
http://www.seattle.gov/music/n.....lethal.pdf
I guess people surrender faster when they're on fire. I would.
I'm sure in police manuals all that dropping and rolling is clearly resisting arrest and warrants an escalation though.
Saw it on Myth-Busters. Some pepper sprays are very flammable, and tasers create wicked sparks.
The dummy went up like a gasoline-soaked pi?ata. And if you taser a guy while he's getting pepper-sprayed, it can turn the pepper spray into a flamethrower.
'Tis but a scratch.

The hard drive containing Lois Lerner e-mails
The emails are not on the hard drive, enough of this shit already! Is there anyone in our entire federal government that's smart enough to say that? Geez, we are a nation of fucking morons.
Turns out it was accidentally hit by a Russian missile.
I blame the Joos.
I don't get this "accidentally" hit with a middle.
I have launched crew-served, military grade ordnance at things. It is very hard to hit something "accidentally". You can be a complete doofass about what you were aiming at but you don't hit that object accidentally.
I think they mean "accident" as in they thought they were aiming at a military target.
The emails are not on the hard drive, enough of this shit already! Is there anyone in our entire federal government that's smart enough to say that?
The emails are not on the hard drive.
Happy now?
enough of this shit already!
"No, more shit! No, more shit!"
Act like I don't know shit about where emails are stored, cause I don't
Hyper, I agree that according to best industry practice and fed government record-retention rules that they should have been on a server (term used loosely). But it appears that IRS policy was for employees to archive them on individual HDDs.
I archive my e-mails on my work hard-drive too. I do it so I can retrieve them without a major encounter with IT - and avoid e-mail jail for the size of my active in-box.
Doesn't mean that corporate IT isn't storing them.
That's retarded. And I still don't believe it. And even if it were true, that still doesn't mean that a copy wasn't stored on a server, and that there are not backups. Then again, I would be surprised if these troglodytes even have hard drives and not dumb terminals with amber monochrome screens.
Just more reasons why these overly bloated dinosaur agencies need to cease to exist.
Hey! The IRS IT budget is only $1.8 Billion. What do you expect?
Bare bones, the cupboards are bare, the hard drives too.
Oh, I agree it's totally stupid. Why, it's almost as if they made a stupid policy that would provide plausible deniability for losing records should any info ever be subpoenaed.
Remember: incompetence is a minor offense, conspiracy is a major offense.
But it appears that IRS policy was for employees to archive them on individual HDDs.
Which is illegal for the feds, regardless of whether you are dealing with emails that are likely to be evidence in a lawsuit. Which hers were. At the time.
It is not that they are not smart enough to say that. It is that they are not HONEST enough to say that.
Do they think the rest of us are that dumb? Well, of course they do, they keep getting away with crap like this, and worse.

It *might* even reduce the number of gunshot wounds suffered by random bystanders.
I totally want to get one of those hammered double barrel coach guns and register it as a SBS and cut the barrel down to about 10". That would be SWEET.

New York prosecutors are reading inmates' e-mails sent to lawyers
And bringing prosecutions based on the contents of those e-mails.
And judges are allowing it.
We didn't need that whole attorney-client confidentiality thing, anyways.
I saw that this morning too, awful.
We didn't need that whole attorney-client doctor-patient clergy?penitent confidentiality thing, anyways.
The obvious solution is FOIA on the prosecutors' emails. Obviously there is no confidentiality expectation by their own standard.
That's different because prosecutors must be able to carry out the public trust without fear of embarrassment or vexation by the peasants they are embarrassing and vexing.

Both RealClear and 538 (SCIENCE!) had all the polls showing Kingston handely winning. Seriously, because Handel - the TP candidate who ran against Kingston as a career politician, a Washington insider and an Establishment Republican - after her third-place finish in the primary threw her support to Kingston. Why? On the grounds that Perdue had no political experience, no Washington connections and the Establishment GOP didn't support him. With Kingston having the support of both the Establishment and the TP GOP, how could he lose? Maybe the voters are figuring out the FYTW language.
Is Perdue good? I imagine he must be an improvement over an establishment hack.

Trigger warning for autoplay vid in the sidebar - but priority-boarding passenger is told he can board first but not his kids, he tweets a complaint, gate agent says he can't board unless he deletes the tweet, he deletes the tweet, gets thrown off the flight anyway.
The gate agent felt "threatened" by the tweet, so I'm pretty sure this gets chalked up as a win for the TSA - another domestic terrorist defeated by the all-seeing eye.
The article indicates it was Southwest, not TSA, and he got an apology but won't use them again anyway.
Yes. I'd be having that gate agent's job and naming and shaming him/her and the company until that person was fired. You want to be threatened? Fine. Let's do this.
I fly a lot, and I have never seen a person's family rejected for priority boarding using their FF status before. That had to have been a bad day for the gate agent, or the family was obnoxious in other ways
So once again, given the choice between a socon and a libertarian, the tea party overwhelming goes for the socon. But don't in anyway suggest the Tea Party's small government rhetoric is in any way phony.
In all fairness, not even libertarians voted for Bob Barr when they had the chance.
Bob Barr's small government rhetoric was phony. Put a sock in it.
You think Barr's a libertarian. That's cute.
He's more libertarian than Christianists like Proudmilk.
Also winning big in Georgia with Tea Party support: Jody Hice, who campaigned on putting Muslims and homosexuals in jail.
Pretending that Barr ever was a real libertarian is a stretch.
He would have to pretty awful to suck worse than Bob Barr. Like, WAR awful.
