Philly Mom Faces Three Years in Jail Because NJ Has Crazy Gun Laws And She Was Honest With Cop

Shaneen Allen, a mother of two from Philadelphia, said she obtained a legal concealed carry permit and purchased a gun after being robbed twice in the previous year. Last October she was pulled over for an "unsafe lane change" while driving in New Jersey and told the cop she had a gun in the car and a legal permit for it, thinking it would be honored in New Jersey. Instead, Fox News reports:
Allen, who has no criminal record, was later charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hollow-point bullets. If convicted, the illegal possession of the handgun is a second-degree felony punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of three years in prison.
"New Jersey's draconian and crazy gun laws gives the judge no discretion here — none," [her attorney Evan] Nappen continued. "You will get three years with no chance of parole if you're convicted of this gun charge. So in the effort of promoting gun control in New Jersey, they've created a situation where very sympathetic people get harmed and turned into the victim by gun laws."
According to her lawyer, a judge declined to allow Allen into a diversion program that would help her avoid jail time.
In the meantime in New Jersey, the police department in Jersey City, where a cop was shot while responding to an armed robbery call over the weekend, is warning its officers that the local Bloods gang has been seeking assistance from regional Bloods groups to kill more cops. According to the internal police memo leaked to the press the department also claims to know the gang is hiding automatic weapons in abandoned buildings.
Strict gun laws passed by working off the emotional reaction to "gun violence," or just hoplophobia in general, ruin the lives of law-abiding people looking to exercise their right to protect themselves while doing nothing at all to change the situation in the cities plagued by violence. Maybe the Bloods haven't heard about the gun laws??

Nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure
You're gonna need a bigger permit for that.
Wouldn't it be easier to make Jersey City a gun-free zone?
I would just leave the state and never return.
I couldn't take this article seriously the second I read the name "Shaneen."
Of course you can't.
Are you implying something?
He's implying that you're a moron.
Zoinks! Foiled again!
Better than Apple Martin.
Actually all of the current crop of kids my siblings and cousins are having have terrible names: intangible concepts, location names and old woman names.
There was that video about the marijuana farmer's market a couple days ago, and I wanted to take it seriously, but as soon as that girl was introduced as Paisley Bradbury, I just lost it.
One of you showed us all this Onion link:

I like traditional ("old woman") names.
We'll know we've hit a tipping point when Ruth and Ethel make it into the top-25.
Penny is a pretty sweet name.
Claire.
On the right track, but none of those are correct. The intangible concepts are mostly virtues, the location name is a state, and the old woman names are just different old woman names.

I'm indiscreet with my own information online, but I'm not going to post a list of family members.
Socialism isn't an intangible concept?
If we can have a song called Persecution Smith, we can certainly have a little girl named Socialism Obama.
Actually all of the current crop of kids my siblings and cousins are having have terrible names: intangible concepts,
Concepts like reason and liberty?
Or Smelly, and Distressed
Yeah, somehow "Maddy" and "Emma" are cool again.
Derp.
Derp is sort of an intangible. I'm just trying to figure out if it's a boy, girl, or trans name now.
NEVER TALK TO COPS! WHEN WILL YOU STUPID BITCHES LEARN?
At least New Jersey's crazy gun laws have stopped the violence in Newark, Camden, and Jersey City...oh..wait...
I feel bad for Irvington. It's a way bigger shithole than Newark and JC but never seems to be mentioned.
It's really just adjacent to Newark, right?
Yeah. I get why it happens, but there's nothing redeeming about the place. The entire town is as bad as the worst neighborhoods in Newark.
Well, NJ is carved up into little towns and boroughs like that. Anywhere else, Newark would cover much more area and probably include Irvington.
That's certainly true. Though I would take it further and say that anywhere else the entire eastern third of the state north of the Raritan would just by part of NYC.
Yeah, Irvington, Hillside, East Orange, are all just nasty appendages of the Newark area.
Jersey City is nowhere in the same league as Newark or Camden (1/8 the murder rate, for example). You're only lumping it in because of recent events.
Yeah, it resonates with people not necessarily familiar with the area for just that reason, so?
Plus it's got "Jersey" right there in the name. It must be awful.
Right
That's the purpose of gun control laws: to turn lawful citizens into criminals.
New Jersey's idiotic gun laws are what will keep Fatsofatass from the nomination, so there's that.
The sad thing is Jersey would probably do well to keep him there. The alternatives are unthinkable.
At least he vetoed the recent legislation to ban magazines of more than 10 rounds capacity.
Can't Chris Chris just pardon her? Or make a phone call to the prosecutor's office and suggest they drop the charges?
He could, and if she's convicted he just might. At least if the case of Brian Aitken can be looked at as precedent:

For as fucked up NJ laws are, I would hope whomever mentored her through the process of getting her license would mention avoiding Jersey.
New gun owners, or those interested in getting one, are very ignorant of gun laws until they need to learn about them....but I would think a P{hilly girl should know that Jersey does not allow handguns.
Unfortunately, yes.
It was made explicitly clear to me during my pistol safety class to never ever have my firearms in the car with me while driving on an interstate that would take me through NYC.
What's this - an exception to the interstate commerce clause and full faith and credit? Nice how the feds pick and choose when and when not to apply.
It's not the Feds. If the NYPD catches you with any firearm on a highway that runs through its jurisdiction , you are going to jail. Because, fuck you, that's why.
Sure you'll get out of jail and the charges will be dropped but your guns will be confiscated and good luck getting them back. And if you do get them back - guess what? You'll be transporting them illegally in their jurisdiction again...
Hell, they do that to people transiting through JFK and LaGuardia if they have a gun in their checked baggage. Even if they are just getting a connecting flight.
Sorry, Supremacy Clause biotches.
Yeah, we gave up Class 3 for a "Firearms Owner Protection Act" that isn't worth shit in the states where it's really needed.
Fuck you, NRA.
RAGE. TAKING. OVER.
Fuck New Jersey. Fuck the whole state in their stupid fucking asses.
Robbed twice in one year? If that's accurate, I feel really sorry for this woman. It sucks to get robbed. It can really mess you up in the head...
Robbed three times now.
Great. Jersey cops are going to be extra jumpy thinking everyone is a Blood on the warpath until proven otherwise. I wonder how many innocent people are going to die because of this memo.
It's open season on black men in New Jersey. Shoot on sight.
Saint Trayvon showed us that's the case everywhere.
I can thank white privilege that the local baboons can't mistake me for a member of a violent, black prison gang.
That, and I refuse to wear red.
None, because the cops know no one will be carrying guns, because that's illegal in New Jersey.
Good point.
Whatever you do, don't red in NJ. Makes me feel sorry for Target employees. Heh, Target...
...wear red...
Cops don't get a free pass from me anymore. Want me to feel sympathy for a dead cop? Show me a clean disciplinary record.
Can the NJ governor pardon her? (If convicted)
Can he? Sure.
Will that fat fuck get off his ass to do it? No.
He commuted Brian Aitken's sentence for almost the exact same "crime":
http://www.nj.com/news/index.s....._rele.html
Unfortunately I'm too far away to get called for that jury. It would be great to be in it and just vote not - guilty for a week straight.
When I'm driving from NC to western PA, there is a small strip of Maryland that makes me a multiple felon for about 10 minutes. At all other points of the trip I'm an upstanding law-abider.
Every time I say "Now I'm a felon", then "Now everything's cool" when I'm back in Free America. I could literally lose everything if one day I roll snake-eyes, with my "high-capacity magazines and hollow point bullets", otherwise known as "ordinary pistol with service ammo".
81 is probably faster than 522, but 522 is a shorter distance.
