On the plus side, at least everyone forgot the VA even exists.
Hello.
/looks gingerly over shoulder for 110 Lean.
BOO!!!
*pulls off 110 Lean mask and laughs as Rufus almost has a heart attack*
Watch that accent, now.
I will say the most annoying accent I have ever been subjected too was a bus ride to the airport in Barbados with a Canadian family making Canadian baby talk to their Canadian infant. That was 12 years ago and the memory still enrages me.
I almost spit out my Sanguine orange Pellegrino at that.
I think you meant to say "clamato juice."
Bien sur.
Ugh, don't mention that shit.
People drink it with *beer* around here. Crazy Mexicans.
Sorry, it was either that or bagged milk, and they're both fucking abominations.
Blood Orange Soda from Trader Joe's?
San Pellegrino. I imagine most grocers or specialty shops carry it.
"Fist of Etiquette draws a lot of water on this blog. You don't draw shit, Firefly. Now we got a nice, quiet little libertarian blog here, and I aim to keep it nice and quiet. So let me make something plain. I don't like you sucking around, bothering our first commenters, Firefly. I don't like your jerk-off name. I don't like your jerk-off font. I don't like your jerk-off behavior, and I don't like you, jerk-off. Do I make myself clear?"
That's...what she said?
There's a correct reply, and that ain't it.
That's the point when you throw the virtual coffee cup at his face.
I was about to lose faith in the commenter class here.
I'm sorry, I wasn't listening. Could you repeat that?
THE FUCK YOU LOOKIN'AT?????!!!!!1!1111!!!
Is 110 Lean anything like gangsta lean?

Aren't you keeping a detailed dossier on every poster? It's a reference to his old dog.
A Taliban commander says that "everybody" in the Islamist group will now "work hard to capture" more Amricans like Bowe Bergdahl.
Must be one of them unintended consequences nobody is responsible for.
No surprise, naturally, to anyone familiar with the Iron Laws:
You get more of what you reward, and less of what you punish.
But no fines?
How about the people who covered this up until after the feds sold their shares? Isn't that a form of fraud?
No. Why? Because FYTW. It's only illegal when mere peasants do it.
"Deemed", eh? Just like Obamacare.
Graffiti penises, harassment of women, and lots and lots of porn. Sounds kind of like a frat house, but nope, it's the Navy's famous Blue Angels.
But I bet they do all that in perfect synchronization.
Porn skywriting?
Sounds like its not the only plural thing that's blue!
I'm talking about us feeling sad.
So - you're not even *trying* to link now?
I guess you can't fail if you don't attempt.
I wonder if they all do the creepy teeth-snap thing like Iceman.

Speaking of the WC, been meaning to ask the soccer dudes around here about their thoughts on Donovan being left off the team.
I've gone back and forth on this but in the end, judging by the depth of the team, it's hard to justify keeping him off, no?
Speaking of the WC, been meaning to ask the soccer dudes around here about their thoughts on Donovan being left off the team.
At least it means we don't have to see this again.
I have to send that to my soccer gang.
I have no problem with it, then again I'm biased towards Brad Davis being a Dynamo fan and all.
Eh. Donovan pretty much said he wasn't gonna eat, breathe, and live soccer, and Klinsmann took him at his word. Still, I wish we'd kept him because he's worth at least one equalizer, which we'll need, because the US only plays from behind. Like jesse.
Pique and/or Ramos. Possibly Defour if I'm being greedy, which I probably am.
I hope Balotelli starts an international incident. Preferably with England. The pearl clutching will be priceless.
I'd have hoped with Luis Suarez. Aren't they in the same group?
Yes. But Suarez is hurt. May not start or play.
What am I, chopped liver?
Not at all, Tonio. You're just not part of our plan.
Oh, but he is part of the plan. If you or Jesse haven't made a claim on Tonio, isn't he unceremoniously dropped into the unfuckable bucket?
It's true; everyone is part of our plan in some fashion. I hereby claim Tonio. Sorry jesse.
Woo-hoo! Hetero mail privilege without all the hassles.
"male", obviously.
into the unfuckable bucket
Nicole and I have been talking about proper utilization of unfuckables. We might tie them up to posts outside the camps to act as Warty appeasement.
Tonio is welcome in my camp, of course.
Damn my infrequent refreshing!

Three cops were shot and killed in Canada today. The suspected killer, Justin Bourque, has been spotted several times but is still on the loose.
Who drew first blood?
Better call Colonel Trautman.
NOTHING IS OVER!
Ray Bourque raised his kids well.
Jason Bourne's French-Canadian cousin?
So, Jason Bourne then?
Well, it could be an inlaw if we're following the original trilogy.
Hillary Clinton's camp allegedly held a secret meeting with The New York Times and demanded that the paper be less critical of her.
That doesn't sound like a Clinton at all.
That was actually an example they gave the NYT as something they could print.
Better than being found in Fort Marcy Park with an odd-angle entry wound or in plane wreckage with Ron Brown, I suppose.
I'm confused. How can the Times be less critical of Democrats than they already are?
"Less critical" = "more fawning"
Okay, that's pretty damn hilarious.
That has to be archived somewhere.
This is only a secret if the Times helps keep it a secret.
The first rule of Democrat Club is don't talk about Democrat Club.
"Three cops were shot and killed in Canada today."
I think that was yesterday.
We don't use the metric system.
Three cops are like five fire fighters in imperial, right?
By weight, sure.
And here it comes:
Justin Bourque: What we know about Moncton shooting suspect
That took no time at all.
Do you think the CBC would come to any other conclusion?
I was expecting them to blame USA gun culture
A lot of people don't like cops, how is that a red flag?
To be fair, it's usually only the people who have ever interacted with them.
They actually were talking on the radio about if we need to do more with gun legislation. It's beyond absurd in a city (Montreal) where there are under 90 murders a year and no gun culture yet they still want more gun control.
All for an outlier.
If it saves even one life, Rufus...
Which of our Canadian cousins has been absent from the links for a couple of days?
Anyone seen Cytotoxic around?
Or tomorrow in Newfoundland.
So much for the hearwarming story.
Hey reason, leave my ears out of this, I'm feeling the heat from my monitor with my eyes.
Said warming is all hearsay.
CAGEW?
So even government motors thinks accountability makes a difference, at this point.
Okay, I'll post this again since it has something for everyone around here:

No doubt legal weed is to blame for this. Reefer madness, yo.

Then, Steven Sloan hit Jamie Ownbey, which led her husband to start fighting with his fellow officer, Fania said.

I clicked to see if the women were hot.
No pictures.
The rest means little to me now.
Cops' wives, as a class, are not known for their hotness. Think of the wives of enlisted personnel and low-grade noncoms.
Yeesh.

I'd hate to be an Asian woman driving a newspaper truck in Canada right now.
I'll let Rufus know you're here.

I bet they have different terms for all those things.
You think, eh?
I really am curious how the RCMP will react during the manhunt compared to the LAPD.
I really am curious how the RCMP will react during the manhunt compared to the LAPD.
Expect them to overreact, just like the cops in Boston did last year.
Furthermore I foresee RCMP and CSIS rationalizing further scrutiny of "Libertarians" net presence in particular.

"Fucking Incentives, How Do They Work?"
-Barack 2 Dope
OT: I'm having trouble with the signal to noise ratio on some blogs that I follow/have followed. Some of them contain some legit good articles, but one of two things happens, either they start having a proggie love fest (unfollowed one blog today for their circle-jerk about plastic bag bans), or they fall into the programmatic "7 ways to ... that you've never heard before!!!1!" I'd hate to ruthlessly take the unfollow hammer to these blogs because some of the articles are legitimately good, but I have unfollowed 3 or 4 in the last couple months because of their low signal to noise ratio.
Most the offending blogs are in the personal finance, cooking, or gardening world.
Any suggestions?
You can never be off topic in the PM links. As for avoiding filler? You can't. 99% of content is crap or repeated. It's just the world we live in.
Yeah, that's what i'm afraid of... although, to be honest, the filler isn't what annoys me as much. The unfollow hammer comes out when targeted blogs decide that they are going to wade into other genres. Gardening blogs that are obsessed with GMOs, frugal blogs cheering plastic bag bans, local weather facebook groups sending weather alerts for 3 states away.
At least if you're being programmatic with filler info, you're still on topic.
Either stop reading them or just skip the offending articles.
Or you could troll the hell out of them, but that may get you banned, depending on how much groupthink there is.
I thought about trolling the hell out of LifeHacker when they started going downhill, but it seemed like too much effort.
In general, having uninteresting/off-topic articles on occasion is entirely unremarkable, and skipping them is implied. However, I've just found a deluge of off-topic articles as of late and wanted to see if anybody else has perceived that trend in their reading as well.
I still read LifeHacker, but I skip most articles now. Actually most of the articles I like on LifeHacker are cross-posted on Gizmodo anyway.
I might have to see if there's ANYTHING I read from LifeHacker next time my RSS gets backed up.
Every once in a while I come across a decent LH article, but about 2-3 years ago they started a steady and rapid decline. I used to read and comment on that site daily, but they lost the golden touch.
Fucking Gawker World. It's poison.
Reddit. No, I'm serious. The non-political subreddits are pretty good, and there's pretty much one for any interest you can think of.
I hadn't thought of that! I've only used reddit for losing faith in humanity by wading into the political subreddits
Yeah, I stay far, far away from those. Why subject my self to that when I could be browsing /r/juicyasians?
The personalfinance subreddit is pretty good. There's been an uptick in people bitching about how the government if buttfucking them with loans since it got added as a default sub but the tone of the subreddit is still heavily against those people.
Don't read the comments?
OT to your OT: I noticed your comment about endzone luxury suites in yesterday's am links. I am assume the venue in question is Folsom Stadium, as I received a similar e-mail.
Nope, Ross-Ade Stadium. Why they're building a new premium deck for a football team that barely eked out 1 win against a mediocre FCS team last year, I'll never know.
Ha, that's funny. My alum e-mail is also proposing endzone premium seats to watch crap football.
The best part was the prices that they were proposing for the season. First, I live 900 miles from campus. Second, I wouldn't pay $800 per person for open air roller seats and a barbeque grill, even if they were winning 8 games a season! I thought that $5000 a season was a bit ridiculous for traditional suites stuck in the end zone, but I don't regularly price out suites.
I am assume the venue in question is Folsom Stadium, as I received a similar e-mail.
Another Buff!? Rock on!
w00t!
Yes indeed! Taking pride in all of the, um, "upside" available to our sporting teams.
I've got the same problem. One I follow is a tech blog but recently they've been fellating China as the next big thing, ready to demolish the US with their burgeoning economy.
Mainly using GDP as a justification. As if a country that spends a fuckton of money on infrastructure that no-one is ready to use is an accurate gage of wealth.
they've been fellating China as the next big thing,
China just keeps bringing the stupid.
China has a glut of factories in industries ranging from steel to construction equipment to solar panels. Beijing encouraged heavy investment in those industries to move away from its dependence on low-level manufacturing. While central government officials signal that they want to tamp down on capacity, local governments are still backing local champions that are major employers.

They're not actively promoting her candidacy?
I think that will take the form of actively destroying her opponent.
Three cops were shot and killed in Canada today. The suspected killer, Justin Bourque, has been spotted several times but is still on the loose.
I wonder if the Canadian cops will go on a rampage like the LA cops did last year and shoot up innocent people?
At least they'll be apologetic.

That smirking, old, red tie guy. Too much smug.
And the woman that wouldn't shut up. Ignorant hag.
Great speech. Wish I was that erudite.
Favorite part...

Shit like this is so common that it's not news. It's only news because they got caught. Usually, even when they're caught red handed, nothing happens, not even a news story. Maybe some blog posts.
Too bad.
I know shit about McDaniel, except that he's primarying an incumbent, which automatically gets my support pending any truly horrific revelations.
Oh no! And the Taliban was being so nice to Americans up until now!
Stormy, sweetie, let me mansplain this to you.
The Taliban are a proxy force being used by the Pakistani Intelligence Services to dominate Afghanistan in their proxy war with Iran.
They had no designs outside this sphere.
In fact, they are even willing to allow U.S. supply convoys through their territory, for a sufficiently high bribe.
Their focus hasn't been on getting prisoners; you'll note that no U.S. soldier has ever been taken prisoner before. They just wanted to inflict casualties, and they haven't done too shabby a job of it.
Obama has fucked up so royally, that we'd have to come up with a new rank of royalty, like God Emperor of Earth to describe what a colossal mistake this is.
Back in 2002, a significant portion of the prisoners in Gitmo were people kidnapped in Afghanistan and sold to the Americans. That's about to start again. Except it isn't going to be so pretty.
Since the Reagan Era, the U.S. has managed to maintain the appearance that kidnapping its personnel was a dangerous waste of time. The consistency of that doctrine made kidnapping U.S. personnel a risky proposition. Now, it's going to have to be reapplied again, and some poor group of people are going to be the sacrificial victims that drive the lesson home.
All because Obama is such a narcissistic loser that he can't think more long-term than tomorrow's paper.
Yeah, they're so badass they had captured exactly one US soldier to date - a guy that walked up to them.
You are full of shit.
I'm betting I can safely assume that you have absolutely zero experience in the military, and if you travel, it's to places like Amsterdam?
So your argument is that the Taliban is now going to try to capture alive soldiers that they were previously just killing outright, and that I am somehow supposed to be upset by this prospect?
Actually, the ransom makes each kidnapped man they trade back far more valuable than those people would be if killed outright.
The attempts to kidnap people will be far more vigorous. And when they don't get their way, the torments their victims suffer will be far worse than a quick death.`
And they won't just be going after troops. They'll be going after civilians, reporters, aid workers, doctors, anyone that they think they can trade for.
You may think it's worth a snarky joke, but this is serious business.
Exactly. They'll think it's really funny when interesting people start crossing our Southern Border, and dragging US Citizens back to Mexico to ransom.
And the best part is that the hostage taking will be blamed on president Paul, or whoever gets elected in '16 instead the shithead that set it all in motion.
Yeah, good luck with that buddy.
The vast majority of our military aren't stupid enough to go desert in the middle of a warzone.
Oh, and the last time I checked, your guys weren't doing so well on the whole 'winning engagements' thing so I don't think there'll be a whole lot of American POW's.
"The vast majority of our military aren't stupid enough to go desert in the middle of a warzone."
The problem here is not military personnel; Obo's PR move has put civilians at risk all over the place.
Fair enough.
OTOH, I can see all those other insurgent leaders face-palming 'cause this one guy fucked it up for everyone. They're all "geez dude, we coulda' kept it quiet and gotten some more people back, now limp-dick is going to have to go all 'Reagan' on us".
They didn't fuck anything up.
They are humiliating Obama by taunting him.
And Obama is such a narcissist that he will react.... stupidly.
The vast majority of our military aren't stupid enough to go desert in the middle of a warzone.
The media is though.
Neil deGrasse Tyson: Abe Lincoln 'would turn in his grave' over Republicans' climate denial
Of course, by scientific results, Neil Degrasse Tyson means the predictions of computer models that directly contradict a decade and a half's worth of observations.
Remember, boys and girls, nothing says "Science!" like an unfalsifiable theory!
😀
I'm trying to figure out where in the Church of Carbontology's hierarchy Neil Douchebag Tyson fits. I'm thinking he's probably a bishop.
He's the Joel Osteen of Carbontology.
He's also not a climatologist. If he were opining like this on, say, string theory, which he's likely also not competent to talk about with authority, he'd probably get slagged by some physicists. Strangely, climatology accepts all comers who profess non-heretical views.
Because climatology is more politics than science.
Apparently so. Once we get more and better data and have much more powerful computer modeling, maybe we can start making some predictions, but with the chaotic systems in play and the huge amount of data to track, it's still very much guess work.
Which is why absolute statements about it show profound ignorance and/or blinding political biases. Saying there's a warming trend that may be attributable in part to some human factors is a reasonable theory that may have some evidentiary support. Almost everything else is so much hot gas.
And remember from this morning. Geoengineering is doomed. Only TOP. MEN. can save us from ourselves.
I don't think it's a question of bigger, more powerful models.
It's a question of parametrization. I don't think one can represent the Earth's atmospheric system accurately enough to predict the states it will evolve through for any distance into the future.
It's really a young science, and we're quite early in the process of doing massive modeling of chaotic systems. Maybe at some point we'll be able to get somewhere, but I'm highly dubious of the kind of absolute statements some make.
Church of Carbontology
Consider that stolen.
And thanks.
But if scientists are going way outside their area of expertise and start advocating for certain economic policies, people point to it and say dumb shit like, "the science says we need a carbon tax, cap and trade, and way more windmills" when the science actually said no such fucking thing.
That's in reply to:
Let me just say, the black-letter statements of the AIChE ethics agreement are such that using my status as a chemical engineer in a setting that isn't the internet to claim authority in an area in which I am not an expert is a violation under two clauses. More importantly, I don't give a fuck if he literally created the science of climatology. The evidence his position have yet collected fails to satisfy with the rigor my scientific heroes would demand.
Yes, shouldn't he be saying something like, "There's reason to be concerned, with some models indicating the possibility of dramatic increases in temperature. But we still lack a solid understanding of climate and other chaotic systems."
Well, to play devil's advocate, engineering is more of a profession with certain professional responsibilities to ensure safety and efficacy.
Look, if you're not going to take advice about climate change from an astrophysicist, then we'll have to send someone over who has actual qualifications.
A Taliban commander says that "everybody" in the Islamist group will now "work hard to capture" more Americans like Bowe Bergdahl. So much for the hear[t]warming story.
Cheer up, Zenon. "Everybody" in America knows not to believe the words of a Taliban commander.
Original Sin:
You know, this rape culture link is going to let us down one more time, isn't it?
Ahh, I've been busy lately. Should've figured it'd been posted.
There's no sugar coating it: Lou Reed raped a Cleveland Brown.
I blame homosexual impulses instilled by Golden Girls.
If Hillary actually becomes president, how hard do you think it would be to arrange your life so that you never ever see or hear her until after she leaves office? I can manage the TV and radio. But web surfing could be somewhat challenging.
It's actually pretty easy. I haven't heard Obama's whining for three months now.
Amateur. I think I'm up to at least twice that.
The tricky part will be not seeing the Beast. For instance, I click on HnR, and there it is.
So much for the hearwarming story.
Clearly he meant 'The "Earworming Story"
You mean the earwig episode from Night Gallery?
SJWs in the wild, Open Carry Texas edition:
LOL. Butthurt level: over 9000.
I may just have to send a few bucks OCT's way because of that.
Please don't. They're actually seriously fucking things up in Texas by handing anti-gunners easy wins.
What wins?
Several of the businesses that these guys have held their protests at have tightened their restrictions on customers carrying firearms after the businesses were targeted by anti-gun folks, and they're scaring away political support for the Texas open-carry bill.
What support? that whole article is based on this quote:
I know about the Fort Worth story, but I haven seen anything by propriety from the folks when they're out demonstrating in public. They're always well marked, and nobody is carrying their weapons in a threatening manner.
However, I definitely understand the opinion that they aren't doing the 2nd Amendment any favors by scaring soccer moms in Chipotle.
Like carrying around unsafed weapons?
From what I've seen, these guys are doing way more harm than they are good.
Ok, that's bad.
perhaps OCT should start conducting open carry firearms safety training courses instead of protesting.
such close proximity to so many guns, and I was triggered
I see what they did there
That is hilarious.
Why can't you white privileged assholes treat me with respect?
Fascists gonna fascist. It's their unawareness that kills me. How do you not realize how ignorant you are being?
That's a deliciously well balanced response. I hope their social media guy got a bonus or something for that.
Yeah, that's how to make gun owners look good to the general public.
Sometimes there are no good guys.
Seems appropriate as a response to this:
I can't stand OCT. I think they do far more harm than good when it comes to the fight for second amendment rights.
(But this, I have to admit, is pretty funny)
It was funny up until the OCT guy started going bro-dude and making creepy sexual remarks. But as with everything OCT seems to do, they start out with a good idea, but don't know when to stop so that it ends up becoming ammo for the anti-gun types.
Open Carry Texas was successful in obtaining that woman's information, because Texas has something called the "Open Records Act," which allows just about anyone to obtain various types of government information. One of the things they're able to obtain is 911 records for calls like mine, which the group claims I made illegally. Even in Texas, local police have stated that people should report people or groups carrying guns saying "Let us determine what is lawful or unlawful." However, that wouldn't make my call any less easy to access.
Hey, Skepchick, you were one of the people cheerleading the publicizing of gun owners based on public records, right? Why is this any different on FOI or First Amendment grounds? (Hint: It's not). Hah!
Disclaimer: OpenCarryTexas is doing more harm than good in tactical terms, but are still within their rights.
Rape 'sometimes right, sometimes wrong', says Indian minister Babulal Gaur
Todd Akin is booking a flight to India as we speak.
What the...
"This is a social crime which depends on men and women. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong,"
No, that's not how the word "rape" works.
Possible Exception:
I clicked that thinking he was talking about the feminist version (you know, where you finger someone while making out and she says no and you stop- that kind), but that crazy motherfucker was talking about gangrape.
Krugman fires up the strawman machine
Except I've never heard anyone say that, and the article he claims to debunk certainly doesn't.

= So, this body of work strikes me as 'three cases of a little teeth in a stream of steady blowjobs'
Another random personal question:
I received and accepted a formal offer for a job from a (fairly prominent) company a couple months back. I simply had to pass background and the like in order to get final instructions and start. In 1.5 months, there's been no progress from their side on getting me started. I've gotten a few excuses (someone quit in HR, paperwork got misplaced) and a few target dates (it was always two or three days away), but still haven't seen any progress since April. It's to the point where I had to go around the HR contact to the people I interviewed with to get a status update, because HR stopped responding to my emails (which I would send every 2 weeks, it's not like I was harassing them).
Is there anything to do but sit on my hands and keep bugging them for updates? The company is great, the job opportunity is great, but 2 months to get me a start date is getting just a little ridiculous.
Get another job.
Seriously. Keep pinging your hiring manager every other day.
But if someone else offers you a job, accept it and then tell the guys who fucked up, "thanks but no thanks".
Show up at the door. Call ahead and let someone know you're coming, but show up and talk to someone.
I am serious, and i could explain to you further why, but i dont want to waste space/time.
The short of it is, technically they've hired you (if you have a signed contract); if things changed and they don't want to go through with it, they're #*$& in a lot of trouble, and the typical tactic bigger companies pull is to hope you will go away.
If you show up, it will force them to admit the issue and give you something. That something may be the actual job if you are physically there. because it is very hard for people to tell people stuff to their face.
This is an old sales thing. You want to close the deal, you have to see them in person.
but show up and talk to someone.
I'd say the hiring manager, they should have the most skin in the game.
This suggestion is not incompatible with my suggestion to look elsewhere. You can do both and I probably would.
The hiring manager has actually been good so far. I only contacted him this week after HR stopped talking to me. He seemed pretty annoyed that the process was taking so long, because they had him under the impression that I hadn't accepted the job.
Either way, I haven't quit my current job, so I'm not out anything if this doesn't pan out. It was just one of those opportunities that comes along that I couldn't pass up.
I'd say resume your job search. This is a process that should take about 1 day to close, maybe a week if you allow for severe bureaucratic dysfunction. 6 weeks means they absolutely do not have their shit together in ways that I would expect to make you re-think whether going there is really a good idea.
Obviously you don't have to let them know that you're back to looking.
The dysfunction could be limited to the HR CANTs, but could also be indicative of the bureaucratic paralysis of the entire org. If you have the time to show up (to your hiring manager), yeah, try that since it establishes an attempt on your part...
At this point think settlement for breached contract as much as actual oemployment potential.
The rest of the company is just as, uh, organized. Find a different job.
This indicates a level of dysfunction and/or budgetary issues that would warn me off. If this is what they're like before they get you into bed, imagine how badly they'll treat you once they have.
Email them saying thanks for considering you, and you're assuming that the offer has been rescinded as there as been no response to your inquiries. If they can afford to hire you and want you, this will gee them up, because they don't want to have to go through the expense of recruiting someone else. If they can't / don't, no biggy, you already suspected it from their inaction.
You are getting a look at who these people really are.
Now, a few delays from HR, whatev. Its how HR rolls. But this is starting to smell like a larger dysfunction.
This is getting out of hand. Keep working them (I think an in-person visit is an excellent idea), but start looking for another job.
If the NYT were "less critical" of Hilary, they'd need to stop putting words in their articles and just have a weekly-hologram of Her Holiness, combined with soft mood-music and the release of lavender and jasmine scents.
The old media can't die soon enough for me.
This week apparently has a lot of anniversaries. Another June 5 anniversary: Adam Smith's birthday! Here's a nice essay by the awesome Richard Ebeling.
Can someone explain to me why people want the GOP to nominate Dr. Ben Carson again?

The horror! THE HORROR!
The man chose not to complain about microaggressions, didn't complain about racism, didn't complain about government not doing enough. His testing moment just so happened to be one that a ton of people can identify with, and one that tends to sink people into bankruptcy and ruin their lives. God forbid he didn't mention how those evil racist teapublicans made him question his faith!
The man is a pediatric neurosurgeon. Maybe, I dunno, THE DYING CHILDREN should have had a bit more an emotional impact than the time he had trouble selling his house?
It's amazing how unempathetic progs are... you just simply have to try to project emotion onto other people without actually thinking about how they actually feel.
Doctors, especially pediatric doctors in high-risk specialties either need to build an emotional blockade to keep themselves sane or have to train themselves to have an incredibly selective memory of only positive experiences. If they were to let every negative professional experience effect them so profoundly, they would be shitty doctors for the next kid in the next room. Perhaps, because of these defenses, he wasn't as emotionally stricken by dying children as by tumult in an area of his life completely unrelated to his profession.
Perhaps, just maybe, his shields were fully functioning for his professional losses, but the house thing snuck up from behind and bit him on the ass.
Nope, can't be... he's obviously just an evil teapublican with no heart.
How dare you lack empathy for Dr. Carson's lack of empathy! Don't you realize how hard on him being an emotionally stunted asshole is?
Keep on projecting your emotions on him! I'm sure that this highly successful pediatric doctor is secretly a sociopath!
Lots of sociopaths are highly successful.
Not had much interactions with highly-specialized MDs, have you, Trashy? Trust me, they're the worst (other than white-shoe lawyers). I overcharge the hell out of them when they're paying me directly, and punk the fuck out of them when they have to interact with me professionally.
NOBODY IS WORSE THAN WHITE-SHOE LAWYERS.
Wow, trashy, just wow. No, pediatric specialist does not inherently mean paragon of virtue; it's just a person who is really, really good at a subdiscipline of applied biology. Not, it doesn't exclude compassion or saintliness, but also doesn't require it.
Oh for sure. It's been my experience that when it comes time to actually putting their money where their empathetic mouths and souls are, progs tend to, um, suddenly disappear.
All they do is shout at others about caring "for the children." But ask for something substantial and all you get is arrogant silence.
Despite being a neurosurgeon, Ben Carson comes across as a total idiot to me.
Having known a few neurosurgeons, I think you can lose the "despite".
DFW's craft beer magnates
I've been to Peticolas and have drank a bunch of other ones on the list. I really like the craft beer quality and diversity here in Dallas.

There was some really good stuff there. Deep Ellum was my favorite (but most people rank them in the middle of the pack for the area). Franconia is great and I also enjoyed some of Lakewood and Community's stuff.
It sucks knowing how long it will take to try all the stuff around LA. With a celiac wife, it can be difficult to convince her to go to good brewhouses.
I could probably beat Hillary Clinton with a single TV ad:
Footage of the bloodstained compound in Benghazi, with a voiceover summarizing the events (uncontroversial, no need to get into speculation). Then, pix of the four dead Americans. Finish with Hillary throwing a fit at the hearing about "What difference, etc.".
I really doubt she'll make it through the primaries. Other Dems are ruthless enough to do just that.
But...they also know that it would be a long, damaging, fight to win the nomination from her, the presumptive heiress, so they fall in line because she's their team's best chance to win the election.
The real question is does the other team have the cojones and vision to run a candidate who can win the election, knowing that it will alienate their former base?
Hillary was "inevitable" last time through, right? Some doofus who had not even finished 1/3rd of a term in the Senate beat her...
Yep - And there is no lake of doofuses.
Uh, lack. A lake of them would be weird.
What is congress, if not a vast sea of doofi ?
Shrugs shoulders.
