Rand Paul needs to watch out for Ted Cruz.They both appeal about equally to a broad swath of hardcore conservatives.Fortunately the neocons and other establishment-types have as much of a problem with Cruz as they do with Paul.

The NeoCons are bleeding support. SoCons will go mostly for Cruz, at least early on in the campaign. But Cruz can't win in the general, he's too SoCon. Paul is the only chance for the GOP in 2016. I don't know if Paul will win, this country is still pretty much stuck on stupid. But it's a guarantee GOP loss for anyone except for Paul.

Which just shows how stupid they are. Cruz's commitment to liberty is a lot softer on wiretapping and the like than Paul. Neocons could mould him but they'd rather god with Jeb Bush.

Cruz's advantage over Paul is that he is better positioned to pander to the nativist tards. Paul has wisely staked out a pragmatic stance that we might not love but is really the best we can hope for. This has deeply offended the Nativist Idiot Brigades.

But it's a guarantee GOP loss for anyone except for Paul.

Oh I think you're forcing it there. The GOP Congresscritter pickings are terrible Paul and and maybe Cruz aside but the GOP has a bevy of very good reformist if not libertarian governors who are into policy wonkery. Jindal comes to mind.
