Frankly, I'm not sure that I get it, either. Fortunately, there's no better introduction to the nutty nitty gritty and the insane ins-and-outs of Juggalo culture than Reason TV's March 5, 2014 story: "Juggalos vs. the FBI: Why Insane Clown Posse Fans Are Not a Gang". Watch and learn.

You may already know Juggalos, the fans of Detroit horrorcore rap group Insane Clown Posse (ICP), from Buzzfeed lists, television shows like Workaholics, or music videos like "Juggalo Island." But, you may not know that Juggalos are one of the best examples of a self reliant (but demonized) community. 

Juggalos began to garner a lot of mainstream attention in 2011 when they were classified as a "hybrid gang" by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in their National Gang Threat Assessment report. The report says Juggalos could "exhibit gang-like behavior and engage in criminal activity and violence."

Juggalos at the 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos, a music festival held in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois, told Reason TV that they disputed the claims made by the FBI.

"That's stereotyping pretty much," said one Juggalo. "You know people who don't listen to the music or are not a fan or a family are going to think we are violent people when they see hatchet men [emblem of Juggalos] or Juggalo stuff."

Insane Clown Posse's members, Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J, agree and are suing the FBI along with the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, claiming that profiling Juggalos as a gang violates Juggalos' constitutional right to express themselves. Further, the gang classification could subject Juggalos to routine stops, detainment, and interrogation by local and federal law enforcement based solely on their music preferences. 

"I think it's ridiculous to consider the Juggalos a gang," says journalist Camille Dodero, who has written about Juggalos and Insane Clown Posse for Gawker and the Village Voice. "In some ways it's almost ironic. These are a group of people that no one else in America has ever cared about and then this one band gave them a sense of identity--like it was a support group."

Dodero says Juggalos often come from lower class backgrounds and although some of them commit crimes, not all of them do.

"And that's not to say that there are that many kids doing it. It just so happened that somebody caught onto the fact that those kids who have that hatchet man sometimes steal things," says Dodero. "That is part of who ICP has been reaching though, people with really bad upbringings."

ICP, who grew up in lower class households just like their fans, have targeted victims as their audience. These include kids who were homeless, came from an abusive family, or were molested. The result is a world where these young people have escaped the life they were dealt for a supportive community they've helped create. One they lovingly refer to as "family."

The FBI said it could not comment on pending litigation, but the effects of the gang label may have already impacted the next Gathering of the Juggalos. The 2014 music festival had to change locations multiple times thanks in part to the fears of local residents, fears Insane Clown Posse has said are associated with the gang classification.

But in the real world, it's who you know, more than what you know, that really matters. Look at CEOs(and the management class in general) and their ridiculous rates of pay. Do they really "create" that much value? Put another way, had a CEO, payed 4 million a year, not been there, would the world be 4 million dollars poorer? We all know the answer is "no." I could talk about even more ridiculous examples, like Basketball players, fashion models, and those who were born or marry into their money. Libertarians hate hate hate when these groups are mentioned, they totally destroy libertarian economic theory and the "rational market." Libertarians like to focus on nerds, so look at Mark Zuckerberg. He is a classic example of who you know mattering more than what you know, his "invention" was little better than MySpace, but he went to Harvard and had the right connections, and that was how he was able to market his site.

There is a reason young people are so overrepresented in libertarianism, they often can't see this because they haven't spent much time much time in the real world. They are often nerds and think that just because they have an SAT score at the 95th percentile means that they will have an income at at least the 90th.

Those of us who understand how the world works realize that redistribution is not only necessary to give a first world standard of living to the working class, but is also justified morally because the rich do not create most of the wealth they have, they just transfer wealth that rightfully should go to others.

So LeBron's time is worth ~200,000 a game. Therefore, the Heat pay him that much, and then they sell tickets and TV rights to recoup that cost. Then, profit is generated. That profit, that's wealth.

James made the Heat increase in value by $70 million. He gets paid $20 million a year. It's therefore a provable fact that he increased the value of the Heat By 3.5 times what he is getting paid.

Furthermore, one of the reasons he chose Florida was the lack of a state income tax. The city of Miami is therefore a major beneficiary of relatively low local taxes, thus proving the importance of reasonable tax rates on wealth creation.

He certainly does. He provides a service to those wishing to either sell or buy a used automobile.

He buys a car from someone who has a car to get rid of. That person obviously valued the money offered MORE than the car itself or they never would have agreed to the trade.

The salesman then takes the cars he's bought and places them in one convenient location where potential buyers can come and see many cars, rather than run all around the state looking at them one at a time. For this convenience, the salesman charges a fee which the customer is willing to pay for. The customer values the convenience of one stop shopping enough to pay a premium.

There is no loser here.

The original owner has the money he valued more than the car. The salesman converted his labor into a desired service and he profits in the process. His customer obviously valued the car (+ the convenience) more than than the money he traded for it, if not, he wouldn't have made the trade.

Everyone in this entire transaction is a winner, each receiving more value than they had before. Wealth is created in the labor the salesman dedicated to providing a desired service.

It is as simple as that.

The things that overcomes racism is markets and capitalism--just look at industries where there have traditionally been few barriers to black participation.

The reason baseball integrated itself is because entrepreneurs and their customers in the stands wanted the best talent available. The reason popular music integrated is because entrepreneurs and their customers cared more about the music of Louie Armstrong and Little Richard than they did about the race of those musicians.

It works the same way for black people as it does for white people, the more opportunities there are for them to succeed, the more successful they become, but putting the brakes on capitalism limits the opportunities for black people--even more than it does for whites. Go look at the divergence between the unemployment rates for blacks and whites during recessions for evidence of that.
