Greenwald Freely Walking on U.S. Soil, Unlike Proposed Iran Ambassador to U.N.; Pope Asks for Forgiveness for Church Abuses: P.M. Links

-
Gage Skidmore / photo on flickr Journalists Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras, responsible for providing us the initial burst of reporting of Edward Snowden's documents about National Security Agency surveillance tactics, have returned to United States soil for the first time since the scandal broke. They're here to collect an award for their reporting and have not been detained or arrested yet.
- A federal court has tossed out the conviction of "hacker" Andrew "weev" Aurnheimer. He was convicted of violating federal law for publicizing and revealing data about AT&T customers that was publicly available on their site if you knew where to look or how to plug in the right url. In other words, he didn't actually hack anything. The dismissal of the case, though, has nothing to do with the legitimacy of the prosecution. It's because he was apparently tried in the wrong court.
- Pope Francis is asking for forgiveness for the damage caused by priests who have sexually abused children.
- In a perfect final paragraph to the final chapter of Kathleen Sebelius' term as head of Health and Human Services, during her farewell speech, she discovered a page was missing.
- The White House announced today the United States will not offer a visa to Iran's choice for ambassador to the United Nations, agreeing with Congress not to allow Hamid Abutalebi, alleged to have participated in the 1979 hostage crisis in Tehran, on American soil.
- African-American congresswomen are asking the Army to reconsider its ban on certain hairstyles as discriminatory, but the Army is responding that African-American female soldiers helped craft the policy in the first place.

In a perfect final paragraph to the final chapter of Kathleen Sebelius' term as head of Health and Human Services, during her farewell speech, she discovered a page was missing.
And it was the page that outlined the key to Obamacare success.
She had to miss it to find out what's in it.
Winner.
Agreed, the thread, she is done.
Hello.
Forgive you Father for you have sin...
Who's enjoying the Masters?
Tiger!
My Uncle, for one. He's in Augusta. I have to say I'm quite jealous.

They will be planted with lots of bugs on the way out though?c
I imagine the Immigration folks will grab every electronic device they posses on the way out of the county though.
Given how much technology is shrinking, you never know. They could plant little bugs all over, and it would be hard for your average private eye to detect them.
The White House announced today the United States will not offer a visa to Iran's choice for ambassador to the United Nations...
So the UN in turn decides to rent from someone else? Maybe? Perhaps?
I wonder if the UN will try to get him into the UN building anyway?
Put him in the diplomatic bag, maybe?
African-American congresswomen are asking the Army to reconsider its ban on certain hairstyles as discriminatory, but the Army is responding that African-American female soldiers helped craft the policy in the first place.
Who's the racist now?
Institute a hairdo policy of making everybody be completely bald, regardless of gender.
You want skinheads in the armed forces?!
In that case, make them go completely bald, but have the heads painted with a big yellow smiley face.
Painted with camouflage, duh.
The Army, for thinking that "All their hairstyles look alike".
The racist bastards! Everyone knows Black women are genetically incapable of growing small in diameter hair of uniform dimension that shows no more than 1/8 of an inch of scalp!
Who's the racist now?
Hint: it's always the white guy.
Or the uncle Thomas.
Here is the recommended hairstyle for men:

That's the part where she spills her guts about the Obama White House. The feeling is mutual, bitches!

You know who else discovered a page was missing?
Purchasers of Robert Plant's solo albums?

Gerry Studds?
Gary Condit?
Winner.
...but the Army is responding that African-American female soldiers helped craft the policy in the first place.
But not the right African-American female soldiers. The Congresswomen's constituency is the perpetual victim.
Last night I saw some show on Nat Geo about Mick Dodge. A dude who lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest.
He's no Dick Proenneke
I preferred the Rifftrax shows they ran 4/1.
Pope Francis is asking for forgiveness for the damage caused by priests who have sexually abused children.
Is that Bishop still hiding out in the Vatican instead of returning to the US to face criminal charges?
Name names, Frankie. Spill. No generic forgiveness w/o individual, public confession.
Their god can forgive them, after they face some human justice first.
They still there, Franike?

"Shave *everyone's* head. You're in the Army now."
The officers find the subordinate women they rape less attractive if they have short hair.
This is the US Army now, not UN 'peacekeepers'.
They're here to collect an award for their reporting and have not been detained or arrested yet.
YET.
Does getting droned count as being detained?
I'd say that there's no way they'd be dumb enough to do something to him while he's here, but then I remembered how dumb they are.
I'm guessing they'll be hassled at the airport on the way out if anything.
Bias in Science
The irony is thick, ain't it?
Also:
Any money on her personality and body type? Who want's to make a bet?
Sooner or later the organic food/exercise nazis and the fat acceptance crowd are going to be come irresistible force vs. immovable object.
Immovable object? Precisely how fat do you think they are?
hysteria
There is a course of treatment for that condition.
I blame Reagan for turning them all out of the institutions.
Treatment for hysteria
The problem with a lot of symptoms in psychiatric illnesses is that they are also commonly-used adjectives to describe feelings/moods. But when you feel "depressed" because your team lost the big game, you don't have the medical condition "Depression".
So when an average lay person reads about symptoms like "hysteria" and "excessive emotion" they might think they know exactly what that is referring to, but they do not have the training or experience to actually understand the use of the terms in this respect. And no, this has nothing to do with anyone being "top men", (I'm sure most of the bright people on this board could easily become qualified if they were willing to spend the time), but it is that no one is allowed to diagnose any psychiatric illnesses before they have years of training and thousands of hours of supervised experience. Just as I wouldn't know my way around your job, people shouldn't assume they understand psychiatric diagnosis and treatment just because some of the words used sound familiar.
Based on a quick scan of her blog, she's an ectomorph whose nose and hair cut make her look like a parakeet and she's bat-shit insane, of course.
Ecto, huh. wouldn't have guessed.
A final element of this is who actually is involved in studies. Studies tend to be held on college campuses, where white, upper class people are disproportionately represented.
Progs prefer poor syphilitic black sharecroppers be disproportionately represented in scientific studies.
Wait, "medical masturbation" is a thing?
Topic of a fairly recent film
Never offered to men, because the doctor's office wouldn't be able to handle all the paperwork created.
And men are more often diagnosed with sociopathy. So?
One great example of this is neurosexism, which is the assumption that man brains and woman brains are inherently different. We do see that men and women tend to excel at different things and that their brains are formed slightly differently. However confirmation bias pushes researchers to assume that this is a natural, biological tendency rather than looking at potential social influences.
What bullshit. Researchers don't look at "potential social influences"? And male/female hormone balance is inarguably different, and it's also inarguable that hormone balance influences brain development and mental function.
Rush Limbaugh and Ben Shapiro Completely Freak Out About Stephen Colbert Getting Late Show
Look at all those people who freaked out about it because Colbert is white.
Best comment on the #cancelcolbert brouhaha: "The only stereotype Suey Park is defeating is that all Asians are intelligent enough to understand sarcasm."
and thus providing tons of early episode comedy fodder.
I bet they worked it all out with Colbert. Great publicity for all of them.
It was a bizarre choice.
Bizarre if they wanted to appeal to the same viewers who currently watch Letterman, which I believe would be old people who died in their apartments with the TV on.
But he's a showbiz veteran who already has a popular nightly talk show and fans that skew pretty young, sounds like a great choice to me.
The dismissal of the case, though, has nothing to do with the legitimacy of the prosecution. It's because he was apparently tried in the wrong court.
His only hope was colossal prosecutorial fuckup.
The socialist-in-chief and vice-socialist-in-chief released their tax returns today. Unsurprisingly, their incomes were a hell of a lot higher than mine, and their tax rates and charitable donations were a hell of a lot lower.
They care professionally. They don't need to care privately.
Damn you! 😉
But they care.
On a Friday afternoon? That's odd.
Who provides their mandatory health insurance?
African-American congresswomen are asking the Army to reconsider its ban on certain hairstyles as discriminatory, but the Army is responding that African-American female soldiers helped craft the policy in the first place.
From the story, it seems like they care more about the language of the rule than the rule itself.
This stuff comes up from time to time (sleeve tats, earrings, etc) but I think this is news since it involves black chicks.
Used to be keep the hair above the collar, but I'm sure people take liberties - gotta get uniform

This is a doctor who really hates foreskin. Like, alot.
This shit would make sugarfree weep.
He must have been mauled by anteaters as a kid.
It's a PDF? Couldn't they have made it a flat HTML file?
HTML was invented by a European, Tim Berners-Lee. Europeans are (usually) more pro foreskin, therefore enemies of the Gilgal Society. Adobe is American, so they can be assumed to be pro cutting, so the Gilgal Society uses PDFs.
That makes perfect sense.
Oh... I thouight it was because they thought "PDF" was an acronym for "Peel Da Foreskin".
I prefer your explanation.
Resigning now lets Sebelius escape the Republicans and avoids the Senate Republicans controlling the confirmation process for a new secretary after the midterm elections. More importantly, this could stop the Democrats' hemorrhaging poll numbers, or at least slow the momentum against them.
Possibly.
Democrats have already developed their talking point for November. "This is not the ObamaCare we voted for," they are saying.
Sorry, *that* won't fly. Those clowns *own* that monstrosity -- lock, stock, and barrel.
Then let them introduce 'fixes'.
"This is not the ObamaCare we voted for," they are saying.
IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WAY
You have to pass it to find out what's in it?
What they found was 'legislatively assisted suicide'?
Man jailed for sucking woman's toes in Walmart
With all due respect, how does an *unwilling* woman get her toes sucked?
The only thing I can think of is that she thought someone else was sucking her toes.
He lied and said he worked in the shoe dept or something
Free podiatry exam.
With all due respect, how does an *unwilling* woman get her toes sucked?
Walmart.
Perhaps you missed it cuz it did not say Florida Walmart.
note: I love Walmart for a variety of reasons. But love does not make me blind. The whole fucking store is full of mutants and they cannot be unseen.
Mutants and hot jailbait.
'Hey you! Stop....sucking my....toes?'
sucked the toes of an unwilling woman
How, uh.. exactly does that happen?
Forget it, I don't think I want to find out.

Ah, so you don't expect to be taken seriously then.
They expect to be paid off quickly.
This does not belong on thinkprogress
The sad thing is the left is well positioned to be great at consumer reports type consumer advocacy.
The sad thing is 9 out of 10 times they would rather beat some political drum then actually help anyone out with good advice.
Plus having a well informed consumer would lower the number of victims they need to sustain the level of government control they advocate for.
I am guessing "but everyone has to make an effort to protect themselves." slipped through the cracks of their editors.
It's something I've thought about before myself: the left insists we need all these regulations, government agencies, etc., and that without it we'd go back to late 19th century robber baron times, with ruthless exploitation of workers and so forth. They never seem to consider that we'd still have class action lawsuits, boycotts, bad publicity, etc. to curb bad corporate behavior.
It's like they WANT to feel powerless without government.
They want YOU to feel powerless without government (so you'll vote for a more powerful government which they'll control).
Read on about the cess pool that is Washington rent seeking: http://freebeacon.com/columns/.....way-style/
I especially love the suckupism of the DC press on people like this. If OWS came to power they'd have their heads on a pike. Under a true small government, they'd just have to seek honest work:
It was in 2009 that the Washington Post dubbed Heather Podesta the "It Girl in a new generation of young, highly connected, built-for-the-Obama-era lobbyists." The appellation was bestowed in a lengthy and fawning "Style" profile, which acted as a sort of advertisement for her lobbying firm. Heather Podesta lamented in the piece that the onrush of business, the peals from health insurance and green energy companies looking for special treatment under the new Democratic dispensation, had interfered with her and her husband's international travel. Whereas they used to visit Venice up to a dozen times annually, Podesta said, "Now we only maybe get there six times a year." The poor dears.
Under 70 comments.
Where is everyone?
Sucking toes?
Friday, time to get on the bike and ride home.
Cyclist?
I took out mine last week. Wasn't ideal conditions but got my first rides in.
Yes, mtn and road. It's nice here in Colorado, but snow on Sunday they say. My first ride into work about a month ago was a sleet filled hell for my warm blooded body.
I keep being tempted to go out, but must remember that the woods are still full of snow.
Time to carbo load then on some IPA.
I'm home now and drinking and grilling dead animal flesh.
Friday afternoons are often kind of quiet here, but maybe if we all listen carefully we can hear the gentle sound of toe sucking. Consensual toe sucking, of course, because we're libertarians.
Friday, dude.
I'm only waiting for the traffic to subside. Incredibly nice weather out too.
I wonder if the custodian muttered something about smart-ass chemists.
So, the NSA may have known about Heartbleed when it was first introduced two years ago, and said nothing.
At this point what would surprise you more---this being true or false?
I would definitely be more surprised if it turns out they didn't know. Especially since they just denied it on Twitter.
I agree. Such is the sorry state we are in, when it is easier to believe that agencies supposedly charged with keeping the public safe would ignore a real threat to security if it gave them an advantage in finding out people's secrets.
Statements like this are just stupid, though
The Heartbleed flaw, introduced in early 2012 in a minor adjustment to the OpenSSL protocol, highlights one of the failings of open source software development.
No, it highlights a major failing on the part of the guys writing the code. This could just as easily been introduced in closed development, but it would probably have been much harder for the good guys to find.
South Carolina trolls progressives.
How is that not already covered under any self defense law? What threat to the life of the fetus is not also a threat to the life of the mother?
Without having a specific opinion of the law, here's an interesting hypothetical: say a woman hires a surrogate to have a zygote implanted in her. Say said surrogate gets cold feet and wants out of the whole arrangement. Is the genetic mother allowed to use deadly force to prevent the surrogate from reaching the abortion clinic?
Trick question.
The Teathuglicans already closed all the abortion clinics!
Sen. Harry Reid Behind BLM Land Grab of Bundy Ranch
Wonder if this has any legs.
The Clinton administration out right killed people at Ruby...and his poll numbers went up.
Even if this ends badly i doubt any politician will be harmed with any blow back from it.
This could end badly.
Not SugarFreed...but maybe we need a new term...?
Nevada land (already over 84% of which is owned by the federal government)
Seriously, is that number for real? Nevada only controls 16% of the land in the state? WTF.
Nevada controls even less if that number doesn't account for Indian land. And the Boy Scouts own a huge chunk that is basically run as a national park as well.
You need somewhere to hide all the flying saucers.
I wish. Reid has been behind all the public to crony land transfers in Nevada for a long time. We may support private property, but he's the king of crony give aways.
Are people at all curious as to why he's rich after being on the public dole for so long?
I would seriously like to see a year by year breakdown of congress members' net worth. That would be some useful investigative reporting.
I haven't seen it by congress critter, but if they don't start as a millionaire, they all seem to end up as ones.
I just wish some of them were prosecuted for influence peddling, but that will never happen. Best I can hope for is term limits but that is not very libertarian.
Article V convention is needed I think.
Could we just have the convention on H&R and not tell anyone?
Term limits could be undemocratic, but I don't know that they are unlibertarian per se.
Prohibit any elected official (and, unfortunately, most likely their immediate family) from investing in any publicly traded securities other than a very broad market index.
Still leaves a lot of room for graft and corruption, but it would be a start.
Campus safety committee fails to recognize violence as violence
Survivors of emotional abuse? Sounds like a support group out of Monty Python.
Has emotional abuse ever killed anyone?
I wouldn't be surprised if they claimed it caused some people to kill themselves.
It sucks (to put it mildly) to be emotionally abused, but when one is in college one is putatively an adult and should be able to realize that just because someone calls you a worthless piece of shit it doesn't necessarily mean you are, in fact, a worthless piece of shit.
That this young woman is reduced to tears, has to leave the room simply because she is distressed by the argument makes me wonder what kind of life she's had.
It could be that she has spent so little time listening to different points of view that merely hearing them is too shocking.
I think it more likely that she has learned that feigning distress will get people to shut up. It's the passive-aggressive version of the heckler's veto.
Hard to say. Between helicopter parenting, self-esteem without any reason for it, groupthink, etc., it seems like are an awful lot of hothouse flowers out there.
Eventually she will be around people who don't care if she cries. I guess she'll have to resort to lawsuits or something then to stop the big meanies.
SJWs go-to tactic.
Obviously it depends on what we're going to call "emotional abuse". I'd say something like "I'll kill you if you ever leave me" qualifies since it's clearly abusive but not physical, but I would have to imagine that the guidelines this committee was producing must cover explicit threats of violence. If they don't, this girl actually has a very good point (albeit poorly expressed).
But yeah, as you alluded, it's most likely the real abusers here are the parents/teachers/whoever who afflicted her with such severe Special Snowflake Syndrome.
That's a threat of violence. Already covered.
I think calling victims of unpleasant things "survivors" is a bit silly. But emotional abuse can be quite damaging to a person.
And why is it so important that things that are not in themselves violence be called "violence". Why isn't it better to call them what they are?
In my mind, you can't "survive" something unless it can kill you.
Cancer? Yup.
Plane crash? Sure.
A roommate prone to cutting remarks? Nope.
This is a critical point to feminists because they want to be able to define "I will break up with you if you continue to annoy me," as abuse.
No man should be able to decide whether to enter or remain in a relationship with any woman, ever. Subjecting any woman to the stress of having to wonder if you like her behavior is per se abuse to these people, and they won't rest until that's effectively the case in civil and criminal law.
They've already qualified "I will break up with you if you don't start fucking me" as rape in every study done in the last decade.
African-American female soldiers helped craft the policy in the first place
FALSE CONSCIOUSNESS!
Okay area tech-nerds: just how bad is HeartBleed? Is my Android affected? Should I be changing all my passwords or is that pointless because the bug hasn't been fixed? When will it be fixed?
Not an expert, but I will say this:
Stealing electronic data was far easier in the days of the telegraph (all you need was wires & clips) and very few criminals ever bothered with it.
Stealing someone's mail or garbage is even easier.
Victims of identity theft are almost always clueless old people who never bother to check their accounts for suspicious activity and/or choose absurdly weak passwords & security questions.
See for example the case of the Sarah Palin email hack.
I read somewhere that it's actually clueless young folk that get ripped off in scams more than old people but that doesn't equate to identity theft.
This is irrelevant and picky, but what the hell, it's Friday night!
"Identity theft" is the wrong term. It's theft of money usually, through unauthorized use of personal identifying information. Someone who has my SSN and last years tax return doesn't have my identity. Just the means to fuck me financially.
Not a tech nerd, but saw this link and changed a few pw I had on these sites:
http://mashable.com/2014/04/09.....-affected/
The other thing I will on this is that if people are really concerned about ID theft, they should refuse to write their DOB or SSN on the same form.
http://reason.com/archives/201.....nt_4442713
The bug has been fixed, and the fix is deployed almost everywhere already.
Sites are rotating their private keys as we speak. Due to the sheer quantity of certificate revocations, it may take a few months for that process to complete. Until they have done so there's a non-zero chance that an attacker can actively MITM your connection to the site and sniff any information (including passwords).
I recommend changing your passwords, slowly, starting with the most important ones. It's probably not necessary, but you're better safe than sorry.
Now it's safe.
Bayern v Madrid
Atletico v Chelsea
Predictions?
Bayern.
My intellect says Atletico but Chelsea plays a style that can frustrate alla Italianesque. So I'm gonna go with the 'upset' and pick Chelsea; even though I feel AM is a legit dark horse. Plus they need to be more clinical so combine that with Chelsea's organization at the back and it may actually be a good tactical fit for Chelsea.
I don't think AM's physical style (again their style remind of Serie A teams in the hey-day) will be too much of an advantage.
Is this the latest Game of Thrones update?
I fear Ronaldo may tear into Bayern.
He might. But Bayern's attack can stress Real's defense. So.
Look, two very good sides. Anyone can win for sure and both are in top form but hey, Bayern.
That Aurnheimer outcome allows me to spend the weekend telling myself that at least some parts of our judicial system are still sane.
Congratulations to the Volokh guys, I think that one was one of theirs.
Hello? **echo echo echo**
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
How can you have any pudding if you don't beat your meat?
The Change.org petition created in support of UCSB professor that assaulted pro-life student
We, as students of UCSB, are in solidarity with Professor Miller-Young and urge our student body, staff, faculty, and community members to provide as much support as possible. We do not condone the hate speech and media attention she has been actively receiving.
We put pressure on administration and Chancellor Yang to issue a statement of support for Professor Miller-Young by the end of this academic quarter, March 21st, 2014.
We also put pressure on administration and the Office of Student Life to re-evalute rules and regulations that allow outside community members to so heavily trigger and target students and faculty on this campus.
While we support an open campus, we would like the University to prioritize the safety of the UCSB community and not be silent when valued professors are at the center of scrutiniy.
We send all our love & solidarity to Professor Miller-Young and other womyn of color faculty members that have not been fiercely supported by this University, and hope that the members of UCSB can follow our lead.
Translation: we value free speech, just as long as it is speech we approve of and doesn't hurt our precious feelings.

Damn. I love his answers to the rights question.
"I try not to think about all that, cause it interferes with my activism."
Nice.
And sadly, all that sarcasm went right over their heads.
At least a few of them were aware of the 1st and 4th amendments.
Well, they also signed a petition to abolish the bill of rights. So, they're stupid, right? Point already proven.
1:13: "I think he's equal to Clinton and maybe a little bit further."
3:27: "She's old and conservative and set in her ways" - unlike me.
Does USCB offer scholarships for the irony-impaired, or is it something that they have to teach?
UCSB does some cool optics research, but I bet the humanities departments are the stepchild of Berkeley.
It's so overtly Orwellian it's practically satire.
I propose their next move to be opening a Campus Office of Free Speech and Tolerance, the sole function of which will be to purge anyone with unacceptable opinions from the school.
Especially considering that the bolded portion states they want the university to prioritize safety even though it was the professor who initiated force.
Although for these people, safety is not hearing or seeing things you disagree with.
It looks definite that "trigger" has now been adopted into the proggie lexicon.
I think they call that the Gender Studies Department
Solidarity comrades, solidarity. The hive is in danger!
Suey Park, at it again.
We reject assigning a logical end goal to our bitching, based upon what we're bitching about, because if we ever got there, we'd have to stop bitching.
Beautiful.
At least the Asians finally have a Sharpton.
Ha ha, I read that as Strapon.
Watching too much lesbian porn I guess.
too much lesbian porn
That's a thing?
Good grief, the Borg say "we" less often.
Grievance mongering is very much a business. Why do you think the SPLC puts Cato and Oath Keepers on their list of hate groups?
If cultural equality were achieved, Suey Park and her ilk might have to find a real job.
Nailed it. It's a business and business is good.
"There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs ? partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs."
? Booker T. Washingto
Another one of those "that's nothing new, it's been said before" statements I keep reading.
So sad that what is happening today was seen and predicted by people in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.
"There is nothing new under the sun" according to the good book.
The SPLC has the fucking Cato institute on their list of Hate Groups? Despite my unbelievably low opinion of the SPLC, even I find that hard to believe.
If cultural equality were achieved, Suey Park and her ilk might have to find a real job.
How do we not have cultural equality (whatever that is) now?
Best comment, which I slightly misquoted above: "Suey is fighting the ugly stereotype that all Asians are intelligent enough to understand sarcasm. "

Got it?
So, Greenwald is one cocky dude, right? I mean, I don't think he's stupid, but if I were him right now, I wouldn't be here.
I guess if you get pissed off enough, you just say fuck it and put yourself in harms way.
Maybe he is hoping they will do something, make himself a sort of martyr. Or maybe he's just too cocky, I don't know.
He's gay. Prison is just one big sexy briar patch.
...really? Wow.
Guess you don't watch Archer.
Unrealistic images in media make women hate themselves!!!
Maybe not...
So what they're saying is that women don't have low self-esteem because they compare themselves to women in the media, they have low self-esteem because they compare themselves to all other women constantly, an insight which has been well known to men for, oh, several thousand years now.
It's amazing the lack of insight and/or interest these people have in men's emotions. They really seem to believe in the Venus-Mars thing while at the same time saying the exact opposite.
How long before some feminists advocate the burka? That'll stop it.
Alternatively poking your own eyes out could fix it.
It's called the contrast effect and it affects men too.
Yes, but no one is bitching about pictures of hot guys in magazines and commercials.
Bullied student threatened with wiretapping charge.
But but but how will he learn social skills outside of public school?
The social skills you learn in school are very similar to the social skills you learn in prison.
Yup.
And, not mentioned in the link, is how the bullying is necessary to the continued function of the school.
In school, as in prison, no one wants to be there. If they had to deal with everyone not wanting to be there at once, the administration would be overwhelmed.
So, just like prison, a few individuals are given extra privileges of violence, in return for using them against anyone not going with the flow.
I really wished I believe in Hell so I could take consolation in knowing Judge Maureen McGraw-Desmet and all her ilk would be eternally tortured there.
In the recent past, one bullied student recorded his tormentors and sought justice. The other stabbed a bunch of people.
Both are being treated as criminals.
"The judge herself admitted to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in 2009 she won [election] because her mother sat on the bench for decades before retiring."
My God, I missed that. Excuse me for a second.

My favorite part:
We now have a new term for "stupid."
I dunno if anyone mentioned this before, but congress members send the White House a petition calling for a ban on "Assault weapons" because in part, and I kid you not, Leland Yee.

So, no Independents thread? Has it already been cancelled?
Yeah no thread?
Buzzfeed's privilege list.
And I'm a straight white guy from a middle class family. It's apparently heavily weighted towards atheists and those who won't take charity from family in their 20s.
I wish there was a way for me to respond to their "Thank you" with a "Fuck off", because I don't think they mean this:
This is not a bad thing, nor is it something to be ashamed of.
But I guess I clicked the link.
Also, having living parents is now a sign of privilege?
55/100. And this from someone who grew up in a single parent home and worked through college/grad school.
What a crock of shit. It appears the only thing that equals adversity is being some protected class, preferably gay, and life-long un/underemployed.
Contrary to what they say, the whole point of the "privilege" movement is to make people feel guilty for their life not sucking. As if being some combination of white, middle to upper middle class, male, straight, and not Muslim guarantees success and happiness regardless of whether or not you sit around and smell your own shit all day.
It's just an excuse for people who's parents worked hard to give them a good life to act "socially self aware" enough to hang out with the grievance crowd that they think is so cool.
I scored a 61.
What a lot of handwaving. Could have been done in three or four questions:
Are you male?
Are you white?
Are you straight?
Have you managed to avoid fucking up your life?
My answer to anyone tossing off that "check your privilege" canard is "fuck off, guilt peddlers."

Won't someone think of the children?

If the pope started handing out wakizashis to priests who raped children and those who helped cover it up, I'd consider forgiving the institution. There's no apology more sincere than hara-kiri.

Wow so why didnt I ever think of that?

The effort is intended to raise awareness about hearing loss, which is a growing problem among younger Americans.
Crackerjack reporting there, Star-Tribune. No no, don't give us any statistics or corroboration whatsoever for this claim, we wouldn't want you to strain yourself.
What a weird world we live in where people are (reputedly) too embarrassed to use hearing protection.
I use Etymotic Research ETY Plugs. They work very well and off better fidelity and protection than foam plugs do.
"Let's go to the new rave club!"
"Great, but let's be sure to wear earplugs!"
Nice. I've been looking for something like that. I tried some shooting plugs with that design, but they just made my ears hurt after about 15 minutes.
Offer, not off.
They are really good. You do have to clean the wax from the soft parts from time to time, also I've used a little Benadryl cream to curb irritation.
I go with "custom" plugs that you mold and fit yourself at home. Comfortable and excellent Db reduction. Maybe not what you want if you also want some fidelity. Pretty sure they are the Radians brand. Google it!
Do you use the large or standard size?
Judging from the pics on their site, I think I have the large/all white ones. I bought them several years ago and I don't remember if they offered the different sizes.
The page doesn't seem to explain the difference or provide a sizing guide. I suppose at $13 a pair you could buy one of each, give/sell the other to someone with larger or smaller ear canals.
Fine print on the site: Two sizes of ETY?Plugs fit almost 100% of ear canals. Recent studies of both fit and seal, conducted at Etymotic Research and an independent lab, showed that the smaller of the two sizes fits the majority of ears and is now designated as standard fit.
I'd think it's more that they don't care than they are embarrassed. I remember being a young guy who didn't bother with hearing protection. Years of loud music and machinery have taken their toll. Now I get to be one of those annoying people trying to impart the wisdom of experience to young people who don't give a shit.
"Artillery Ear"
What?
*Puts hand to ear*
"WHAT?"
