A senior aide to [British Prime Minister] David Cameron resigned from Downing Street last month the day before being arrested on allegations relating to child abuse images.

Patrick Rock, who was involved in drawing up the government's policy for the large internet firms on online pornography filters, resigned after No 10 was alerted to the allegations….

Rock helped to draw up government policy which led to the deal with the internet giants on online filters. Under the deal, all households connected to the internet will be contacted to be asked if they would like the filters installed.

Well, it was a common theme in Townsend's poetry from the beginning of the Who, culminating in the Tommy album. His solo stuff, as well as It's Hard also periodically explore those themes. Research? A little iffy, but I will give Townsend the benefit of the doubt. Of course, in my opinion, The Who are the greatest rock-n-roll band of all time. So I might be biased.

I agree they are melodramatic, especially Tommy and beyond. But for me, the "sweet spot" is from the beginning with My Generation, A Quick One, The Who Sell Out, Tommy, and culminating in Live at Leeds. I guess I am a Mod?

I am with Gilmore. For me Rock is all about the beat and the "roll" of it. Keith Moon, for all of his virtues, couldn't keep time. I love the Who. And Kieth's inability or unwillingness to keep proper time made them very unique. But in the end, my favorite music will always be music that swings. And no rock band has ever had swing and had that down home grove the way the Stones do.

To take Gilmore's favorite record, nothing the Who ever did makes me want to turn the music up and move as much as a song like All Down the Line or Rocks Off or Rip This Joint to name just three off of that record.

I actually think that simple possession of any image should not be a crime. That said, knowing that it is and knowing the kind of legal trouble the possession of that crap will get you into, you really have to be a serious deranged pervert with no impulse control to possess it. Even if you got off on that crap, why would you take the chance of being branded a deviant and having your life ruined just to have something to jerk off too?

I like pictures of naked adult women. But if for some reason moved to Saudi Arabia where the simple possession of that crap could get me thrown into prison or worse, I would find another way to get off, out of self interest if nothing else.

You all have this completely backwards. The point of promoting local access to filters is to reduce pressure to regulate the internet, or install some sort of global filter.

In other words, it was all part of his plan to make sure there wasn't a serious effort to police content. Instead control could be passed off to the households.

It's not a question of false righteousness. Quite the opposite. He wanted to preserve access.
