House Passes "Clean" Debt Limit Bill, Ready to Head Home Ahead of Snowstorm
221-201

The House has just voted in favor of "suspending" the debt ceiling through March 2015 by a vote of 221-201, with 28 Republicans voting for it and just 2 Democrats voting against. The measure now goes to the Senate.
Republican leadership, looking to get something out of the vote or just to entice more Republicans to support it, briefly considered tying it to a restoration of military benefits before agreeing on a "clean" vote, something Speaker John Boehner, the top House Republican, called a "disappointing moment."
The U.S. debt is at $17.3 trillion and rising. Multiple Democrats, including House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer, suggested that raising the debt ceiling shouldn't even be a matter for debate, because America is awesome. Hoyer also lauded Bill Clinton and House Republicans in the 90s for delivering several budget surpluses, calling it something of a "team effort," but didn't seem to draw any relevant conclusions for the present day.

Because Clinton "rammed the 93 Omnibus bill down their throats" with zero GOP votes.
("rammed down our throats!" - a favorite phrase of the GOP for some reason)
Go fuck your daddy, shitpile
Oh, and your lying gets real tired:
"A handful of members of Congress joined Clinton for the mid-day Rose Garden signing ceremony, among them some who played prominent roles in the final budget negotiations-notably Senate Budget Chairman Pete Domenici, R-N.M.; Senate Appropriations Labor-HHS Subcommittee Chairman Arlen Specter, R-Pa.; House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Ralph Regula, R-Ohio; and Senate Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee ranking member Patrick Leahy, D-Vt."

Lying? The House vote (GOP) was 175-0 against. The Senate had zero GOP votes for the bill.
Post a link disputing the VOTE, dipshit. Not one where some pols were posing for cameras.
Well, my apologies! I missed the "93":
"And 1993 ? the year of the giant Clinton tax hike ? was not the turning point in the deficit wars, either. In fact, in 1995, two years after that tax hike, the budget baseline submitted by the president's own Office of Management and Budget and the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office predicted $200 billion deficits for as far as the eye could see."
http://www.cato.org/publicatio.....nce-budget
Yes, Clinton 'rammed that through"
I thought you were posting about the one that was "balanced", not the other pork-barrels. The "balanced" budget of '99 shows:
"The vote in the House was 221 to 208, with 4 Democrats voting in favor and 2 Republicans voting against. The vote in the Senate was 55 to 44, with 1 Democrat voting in favor and 1 Republican not voting. Both chambers also turned aside Democratic budget proposals."

You unearthed a meaningless vote on a toothless balanced budget bill - kind of like finding a bill that says that all Congressmen love America with all their heart - so fucking what?
Gramm Rudman failed too.
HEY LETS ALL VOTE FOR A BALANCED BUDGET!

"You unearthed a meaningless vote on a toothless balanced budget bill - kind of like finding a bill that says that all Congressmen love America with all their heart - so fucking what?"
You unearthed a budget with huge tax increases and mentioned the GOP didn't support it - kind of like finding the liar in the WH lying about the debt and getting caught.
so fucking what?
toothless balanced budget bill
So the actual bill that resulted in a balanced budget (actually wasn't balanced but we will call it that for this discussion) is toothless but the tax raising bill of 93' which did not balance the budget, missing it by $200 billion is your all powerful claim of how awesome dems are...
Anyway from 2000 to 2014 one can see that Dems and Reps have shifted to their default position of overspending...though it should be noted it was today that the majority of republicans and only 2 Dems voted to balance the budget.
93' may be the best democrat budget hawks of the world shrike (they weren't) but 2014 Dems do suck ass.
It's hardly controversial that most of the reductions--which were more illusory than real--came because of a brief electoral revolt in 1994. Mostly the new Republicans in Congress then did the most damage, but that election also shoved Clinton quite a bit rightwards. Something lefties can't even remember when it's shoved in their faces.
Clinton actually did care something for America. By contrast, pretty soon your hero (who is as vile as you are) will have doubled the public debt in just five and a half years. During a period of almost no inflation or economic growth, no less.
Choke on it, cocksucker. After all, you know a lot about ramming things down your throat.
Bill Clinton was Obama's #1 campaigner in 2012 when it counted.
Rand Paul should shut up for his own good. The Big Dawg will wipe the floor with his shaggy mop-head.
Bill Clinton was Obama's #1 campaigner in 2012 when it counted.
Relevance?
The Big Dawg will wipe the floor with his shaggy mop-head.
Pffftt right. Do you alternate sucking Clinton cock with Obama cock? Are you phasing in the former and phasing out the latter?
I am pretty sure Rand paul will vote against raising the debt limit.
Obama will sign it.
You have admitted many times about how awesome a balanced budget is.
By your own measure Obama sucks and Rand Paul rules.
delivering several budget surpluses
Budget surpluses that never actually existed.
Oh, bullshit. Spare us the wingnut talking points about how the debt increased (but forgetting that current account cash increased far more than debt).
wingnut talking points about how the debt increased
Wingnut talking points = realities that PB can't argue against.
There were no surpluses dipshit. I bring the facts you bring blue team talking points. That's why you get thrashed every time you step off the short bus.
Even Fox News agrees with me:
Bill Clinton began his presidency inheriting a deficit of over $300 billion (big number in those days). He insisted on a budget bill that raised taxes $500 billion ? bringing unanimous opposition from congressional Republicans, who predicted such a tax hike would bring about a long-term recession. He insisted on cutting spending $500 billion, offending the liberals who wanted him to stimulate the economy with more deficit spending, not to cut spending.
Not one Republican member of Congress supported the Clinton Budget Bill of 1993. Yet eight years and 23 million new jobs later, President Clinton had converted the $300 billion into a $1 trillion surplus.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion.....ot-ignore/
That's nice. I'm still right and you are still full of shit. There was no surplus, period. That was just fucking with the Social Security monies. The debt went up and up and up.
Bullshit:
http://www.factcheck.org/2008/.....r-clinton/
Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?
A: Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not.

"Bullshit:"
Bullshit to your bullshit.
He managed to pay the minimum on the credit card, putting off the amount owing.
Fuck you and your sleazy cheerleading.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Shorter shreeek:
If you just use accounting that would be so egregiously illegal it would land you in the slammer if you tried to pull it with a public corporation, you can pretend you have a balanced budget, and then you can further pretend it had something to do with the guy who signed it rather than the 2 legislative bodies that crafted and passed it.
Even if you want to play the "balanced because GAAP should never apply to government" game, you're not even giving credit for the pretend balanced budget to the people who pretended it in the first place.
Palin's Buttplug|2.11.14 @ 6:50PM|#
"Even Fox News agrees with me:"
Others don't; see my reply above. And, yes, I was wrong about '93; I thought you were claiming the GOP didn't vote for the "balanced" '99 budget.
Spare us the wingnut talking points about how the debt increased (but forgetting that current account cash increased far more than debt).
Math never was your strong suit, dumbass.
If Hillary promises to cut spending to Clinton-era budgets, I'll vote for her myself. But I don't see her cutting 2 trillion per year.
Hard to cut 8 years of the Bushpig Big Gov spending.
She would fail anyway.
Palin's Buttplug|2.11.14 @ 7:08PM|#
"Hard to cut 8 years of the Bushpig Big Gov spending."
Yeah, especially with 8 year of Obzo gov spending, and the legacy of the worst piece of legislation in memory.
I can see why: it was basically a big tax increase.
Because, in 1993, there just wasn't anything left to cut.
Actually, they did raise the taxable amount of Social Security income.
When they decide to tax your SS benefits more, does that count as a tax? Or a decrease in SS benefits?
I guess the democrats from '93 could explain it.
Biggest spending cut of all time too:
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion.....ot-ignore/
That is when I learned that the GOP is full of shit on "fiscal responsibility".
Spending was never cut. It was cut relative to a bullshit baseline, not that I expect you to understand such a concept.
Nonsense, you Canuck war-monger. I did 30 years in finance. I know more than you do about anything.
Someone should play the knockout game on your teeth Weigel, you psychotic pathological liar.
Woo-oo we got an internet finance guy. Watch out! He (claims to) know what he's talking about!
Well you've convinced me. Who needs actual argumentation and evidence when you have 30 years of 'finance' which probably means counting tips at Karl's Jr.
Finance != accounting, and you are demonstrably ignorant of both, but the internet is the one place you truly can be whoever you want to be (or at least play the role).
Palin's Buttplug|2.11.14 @ 6:53PM|#
"Biggest spending cut of all time too:"
Uh, that link has a vague reference of $500Bn in un-named cuts and a reference to $500Bn in increased taxes.
What a guy!
Biggest spending cut of all time too
Um, no--outlays went up every year of Clinton's term.

Table 1.4
Poor PB--raped by government statistics again. Thank a roaring economy based on an unsustainable tulip bulb craze called dotcom.
Yeah, the kinda-sorta fiscal rectitude of the late '90s. Gee, I wonder if it could have had anything to do with the GOP taking over the House, where spending bills originate, in 1994?
I will give Clinton credit for making that happen.
So "clean" = 'We don't care. Spend what you want!'
These people are paid to do a job, aren't they?
Yep. And like any good whore, they didn't even cry until after they got the money.
I'm willing to pay extra for crying first.
Hard to cry with a cellophane bag over your head.
...
what, not appropriate?
Here's a cleaner debt limit bill:
Don't borrow beyond the current debt limit. Cut spending as needed.
What a Sh!t-show. I think Boehner's definition of 'clean' is whenever orange tears aren't shed onto his shirt collar.
In other ridiculous "news":
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will step down this year, he said in an interview with the New Yorker's Jeffrey Toobin in the magazine's Feb. 17 edition.
So, who will replace him?
My money's on Melissa Harris-Perry.
My guess was Beelzebub.
Interview with Jeffrey Toobin? Dare I click on the link?
Dare I click on the link?
Well, it goes to the Washington Times, so probably not.
So Boehner is the speaker for just 28 of the republicans in the house based on this vote?
Yep. Well done.
That's the good news. Hopefully it's a sign that Speaker Fake Bake is about to get usurped by the rank-and-file. God, he's worthless and pathetic...he doesn't even pretend to put up a fight anymore.
I gotta say that vote breakdown looks pretty good on Team Red. Can Cruz and Paul hold it up in the senate?
Yeah, how exactly does changing Speakers work?
When did Boehner join the Cleveland Browns?
The colors match.
Because we all know that debt ceilings and deficit limits are archaic laws that have no place in modern, wealthy democracies. Deficits and debts really don't matter.
I'm from Boehners district. When he first got elected to congress I was in high school. Everyone was running around shouting "vote for Boner!" It was actually quite amusing.
Now it kind of makes me sad. The weasel runs unopposed, so he can't lose. I guess I could run against him, but I'm not a complete sociopath, so no thanks. Besides a Libertarian won't win, and I'd rather slice my penis off then run for team Blue.
"The weasel runs unopposed, so he can't lose."
I'm in SF; we get Pelosi.
The weasel runs unopposed
Nice band name.
Isn't he getting primaried?
Yes, thankfully.
Hope Gurr gets legs under him. We'll see.
Well shit, I'll have go find Mr. Gurr and buy him a beer.
Oh and by the way "Ready to Head Home Ahead of Snowstorm"
A snowstorm is more important? Fuck you. They should have to walk home.
Our long flirtation with anarchy has ended
Ending three years of brinkmanship in which the threat of a devastating default was used to wring conservative concessions from President Obama, the House on Tuesday voted to raise the government's borrowing limit until March 2015 ? without any conditions.
The vote ? 221-201 ? relied primarily on Democrats to carry the legislation, the first debt ceiling increase since 2009 that was not attached to other measures. Only 28 Republicans voted yes. But it effectively ended a three-year, Tea Party-fueled era when a series of budget showdowns raised the threat of debt defaults and government shutdowns, rattled economic confidence and brought serious scrutiny from an international community questioning Washington's ability to govern.
Such tactics came crashing down after last October's government shutdown, and House Speaker John A. Boehner, emboldened by failure, appeared content to pass legislation with Democrats, daring the most conservative wing of his conference to make good on their grumbles that he should fail.
Good grief.
conservative concessions
Like what?
ended a three-year, Tea Party-fueled era
Hate to disappoint you, but this is probably just a breather before 2014 tears the Dems a new one. Boehner might be primaried away or otherwise eliminated from speaker and then those 3 years will seem easy.
ended a three-year, Tea Party-fueled era
Lefties never argue in good faith ever.
Also where are WElch and Suderman? I suppose it is good the GOP are caving now rather than caving after a shutdown?
Unrelated, but in Connecticut thousands of people are flouting the new gun laws and the rulers are slightly concerned.

"If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."
Maybe the problem is the law?
NO Connecticut, fuck YOU, that's why!
/Citizenry
AWESOME!
You know which other opposition party leader supported legislation suspending something?
All of them?
Dude knows which way is up man. Wow.
http://www.GoAnon.tk
Holy shit you are one dumb mother fucker shike. For fucks sake, the governments own media says the surpluses didnt exist.
Why any pretense is made that there is any such thing as a debt ceiling is beyond me.
"If Hillary promises to cut spending to Clinton-era budgets, I'll vote for her myself. But I don't see her cutting 2 trillion per year. "
I will do that, too
