Tonight on The Independents: Obama's Magical Economics, Dennis Rodman's NoKo Meltdown, Non-Violent Life Sentences for Pot, Glenn Reynolds on The New School…Plus Polar Vortex, Statehouse Satanists, and More
Tonight's episode of The Independents, which airs on Fox Business Network live at 9 pm ET and then repeats again at midnight, will feature a mix of familiar and unfamiliar faces grappling with how to make the world more free.
Glenn "Instapundit" Reynolds (Reason archive here) will be on to talk about his new book, The New School: How the Information Age Will Save American Education from Itself. John "Show-Me Cannabis" Payne (Reason archive here) will talk about the awful case of Jeff Mizanskey, a nonviolent pot offender in Missouri who is seeking clemency after serving 20 years of a life sentence. Party panelists Rich Benjamin (a Demos senior fellow) and Jedediah Bila (Fox News contributor) will be on to discuss President Barack Obama's latest speech on unemployment benefits and Dennis Rodman's latest foray into totalitarian diplomacy.
Also under discussion: Former defense secretary Robert Gates' White House-slamming tell-all, Oklahoma City's statehouse Satanists, and Kennedy excursion into the Polar Vortex to ask Times Square visitors just what the hell they're doing outside.
For more details check out The Independents website, which has a video page where you can watch various prior segments, and a link to help you see whether you get Fox Biz. The show will be rebroadcast over the weekend; check your local listings. And the Twitter feed is @IndependentsFBN.

Links After Dark!!!
No fair - by the time the show is up on the Web site I'll have lost interest.
This, so much this. Fox, the content has maybe a half-week's worth of shelf life, no more. Just upload it a few hours after premier.
Some user on youtube uploads full, almost always complete episodes of Red Eye in HD days after they air. He's only ever harassed, as far as I can tell, if the episode contains copyrighted material (usually clips Gutfeld airs). Maybe someone of gumption and patience can similarly immortalize The Independents.
Braveheart or the Independents? I'll switch to the Independents if Matt promises to yell "FREEEEEDOOOMMM!!!" on the next live show.
(I'll switch over anyway)
Rachel Maddow lies about Koch connection to Florida drug testing law
The State Policy Network?let alone the Koch brothers!?had nothing to do with the Florida legislation. Ms. Maddow perhaps was trying to suggest that the State Policy Network is a funding source for FFGA, so that the Koch brothers have indirectly supported FFGA, albeit to a ridiculously small level (nowhere near $1,000 on a pro rata basis). But that isn't true either. I happen to know a little bit about this, since I was formerly the Chairman of the Board of a think tank that is a member of the State Policy Network.
The SPN is like a trade association of conservative think tanks, with members in every state. The SPN doesn't support the local groups, like FFGA; on the contrary, the local think tanks pay dues to support SPN. So there is no connection?not even a minute, indirect one?between Koch and FFGA. I repeat: as far as we know, no one at Koch had ever heard of FFGA before Rachel Maddow's show on Thursday of last week, and Koch did nothing?zero, nada?to support the Florida legislation in question.
So Rachel Maddow's entire segment was one big lie. Her central premise, that the Florida welfare statute was an initiative of the Koch brothers, was false, and she knew it. She made the whole thing up to fool the low-IQ viewers who form MSNBC's base. But the story gets even worse.
The Koch brothers could have both been in comas for the last decade and would still get blamed for shit that libs don't like...
Yes, but this is actually pretty serious for her. She not only knowingly lied about their connection to the law, she pretty much told them to fuck off on her show last Friday when representatives for Koch Industries requested a retraction:
So she pretty much just opened herself and her network up to legal action for defamation. I hope she has enough hubris to attempt to fight this instead of doing the sensible thing and yielding.
"Requests" hell!
She doesn't do facts or the truth.
Oh man, Maddow getting sued successfully by the Kochs?!
Let the progderp roll like waters, and salty ham tears like a mighty stream!
I doubt they will, for much the same reason that Michael Mann was phenomenally stupid to sue National Review.
Discovery is a bitch.
The left thinks a smirk is somehow equal to a pithy rebuke. Just because Stewart can pull off funny with a sarcastic smirk on the daily show doesn't mean that it is funny when you try it. And even he misuses the smirk in place of a real insight far too often.
Maddow just looks like a douchy idiot doing the smirk. This is why she can only pull a couple hundred thousand echo-chamber fans on a good day. Of course it is the echo chamber that insulates her from consequences. If a half-million viewers is plenty to keep you in your job, you don't really risk losing any viewers at all by offending the other side. So to your point, no, it doesn't matter at all to MSNBC if she lies, makes stuff up or is generally obnoxious to 95% of America.
At least the morons on the right understand that you gotta be entertaining to have a tv/radio show of any type - even political talk. At least they used to. I dunno, I haven't seen any of it in a long while.
The Kochs are to idiot progs what Soros is to idiot wingnuts.
Neither has very much political influence but both political factions demonize each like they were party bosses.
Shreek:commentary::Obama:leadership
In other MSLSD news:
No, my dear, ratings whores actually get ratings.
Will MHP be apologizing for her sexist attack on sex workers?
? ? ?
Will Maddow lead the lacrosse team to victory?
Will Chris Mathews manage to keep his hip flask hidden?
Will Chris Hayes win the amateur Thai lady boy contest?
These questions and many others will be ignored on the next episode of DERP
? ? ?
I would love to see Koch buy up all sorts of "liberal" assets.
...Dennis Rodman's latest foray into totalitarian diplomacy.
I am absolutely certain that Dennis Rodman does not go to NK to freak with girls that Kim Jong Un does not supply him with.
Yeah. The idea that a tyrant raised in a political/social cocoon with racist, xenophobia as one feature of its structure would willingly share his harem or any other females from his domain with a large, black male simply does not ring true with how things work in Asia.
Dear Leader supposedly attended a boarding school in Switzerland and has traveled to Japan several times, so I'm not sure the 'cocoon' description fits him well.
Kim Jong Un is obviously nuts. You're right about the racism and xenophobia. I think Rodman is eccentric, not nuts, and he might be doing this with goodwill. That is, it's better to mix it up with the nut than to leave him isolated. I sincerely hope that's the case. If he's not doing what I didn't suggest he wasn't doing, he should know darn well that those girls will be executed or sent to a labor camp the moment he leaves.
Yup. I know Kim has been spotted at Tokyo Disneyland (not actually in Tokyo despite the name) as I live a few miles from there. I'm sure his exposure to the outside world is what leads him to even imagine having any sort of connection with Rodman.
I really do hope Rodman's motive is some sort of melting of political relations out of Pyongyang. I completely doubt it will leave more than a scratch on the surface though.
The idea of sex in police state hell-holes like NorKor is something hard to translate. For the elites it is part of the furniture. The plebes often lack the scantest knowledge about it. Whether Rodman is being granted "access" to anything probably boils down to Kim's specific personal foibles which nobody but a few of his bed partners could even guess at.
mmmm,furniture
Buckwheat!
What's the point??? Buckwheat is just going to go on and on about how unemployment benefits help the economy by increasing aggregate demand and conjuring goods out of thin air which are made by Santa's elves and thus won't increase in price.
Just have everyone go on unemployment and we'll all be rich!
AHH! Cavuto!
Jedediah. That's an awesome name. Then I clicked it and it turns out it's a chick. AND a hottie at that.
Fox contributor...go figure.
She is hot as hell. No one else on cable fake news can compete with her. Also a regular on Red Eye.
I think Bill was tapping that and got fired for fishing on the company dock.
Oops late!
INDEPENDENTS ASSEMBLE!
Also known as Johnny Cash.
Set my DVR and, now... Modern Family! Yay! On USA!
What time is Justified on?
Forget Justified, Number 6 is playing a Texas Ranger that hunts down lingerie model killers! Tonight at 10 on ABC.
Oh shit, the new season starts tonight? Awwww yeah.
The continued attempts to make Boyd Crowder redeemable has grown tired. What next? Will he be Magneto's assistant principle at Xaviar's school for gifted children while the Professor is away?
Also would Boyd and Givens just kiss already!
All those benefits will multiply in the economic bloodstream.
Piss.
Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.Piss. Piss.
Multiplier effect in action.
long tail?
Demos guy spouts nonsense. Shocker!
MULTIPLIER!
THROW MORE MONEY AT IT.
Move those goal posts!
Multiplier is less than 1. IIRC, it's .6 or .7 depending on country's debt-to-gdp ratio.
Unemployed for two years? Presumably applied for at least, say, 1 job per month? Turned down 23 or more times?
Who would hire them after that? The 23 people who didn't hire this person, they were all wrong. This guy is totally going to work out for me!
Just put them on disability.
adjusts monocle
IIRC, some Dems were proposing legislation preventing employers from taking into account how long an applicant had been unemployed. All to protect the "99 weekers"...
Heartless bastard in me says that pretty much means "never post an opening", never announce an opening, just do all networking.
'cause the idea of interviewing someone, and not being able to say, "so, you left this place in August of '11, what have you been up to since then?"...
At the behest of mother, I was offered a temporary Christmas season job at my uncle's store in '12 but stood for myself instead so could find a more self-fulfilling position.
Everyone would have a job right now if only the president was given enough stimulus and allowed to spend it where he wants.
OBSTRUCTIONIST RETHUGLICANS!!! Without them this country would clearly be a utopia.
Kmele is a heartless bastard! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
Needz moar orphans.
And Welch is pissed off! How long until they start using fuck and the c-word?
K: "... language! ..."
Worst recovery evah!
Well, that segment went nowhere.
Wow, guys! What a way to pile on poor, deluded Buckwheat!
Multiplier effect! Conjuring goods out of thin air!
New York is offering tax free business startups...
I want to start a horse-drawn carriage company in central park...
I PITY THE FOOL!
Didn't Rodman once wrestle for WWF or WCW or something? He sounds like he's doing a wrestling promo here.
Awk. Ward.
This Rodman/NK thing is going to end in tragedy, isn't it? Like, that baseball team in the '30s that went to the USSR -- that kind of tragedy, right?
What was that?
Only Rodman could go to NoKo?
Okay, you're a contrarian, Kmele. We get it.
Kennedy excursion into the Polar Vortex to ask Times Square visitors just what the hell they're doing outside.
Secret Prepers.
I know we make fun of Rodman for thinking North Korea is a beautiful country, but to be fair he's from New Jersey and lived in Chicago and Detroit.
You make a very strong point there.
Sicko.
A shot at Vanilla Ice from out of nowhere.
Did he grab his 9, and all he heard were shells fallin on the concrete real fast?
There's a difference between Nixon and Rodman: Nixon could change policy towards China; Rodman can't do jack shit about anything.
Yeah, what is the deal with celebrities thinking they are diplomats and politicians? Looking at you, Hillary.
It will be interesting to see if a Federal case over legal marijuana in Colorado will center on whether the MJ was grown/produced wholly within CO. This would present an interesting precedent/circuit split over the concept that certain types of firearms that are banned federally could be legalized at the state level if produced and used entirely within one state.
There is a case from a while back where a guy (in Arizona, I think) built a submachinegun from scratch and was prosecuted for possessing it without a valid registration (which is required under the National Firearms Act of 1934). As I recall, he was acquitted of the crime of possession of an unregistered firearm on the basis that he had produced it himself entirely withing the state of Arizona, and it had not "entered" interstate commerce. However, he was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm based on a previous felony conviction.
Wasn't there a case decided the same year as Raich on that? Went the same way, except one justice flipped, IIRC (Scalia?)
I'd love to see an overturning, but I can't imagine it happening, because if you say guns made it one state, not in interstate commerce don't fall under federal law, doesn't that also apply to wheat? And then you've overturned the New Deal. Can't see them doing that.
That's the big question. As I recall, the circuits were not considered to be split because the cases were "different" enough.
Of course, that's BS, and yes, marijuana legalization has the potential to be the seed that ends the New Deal and its legal underpinnings. What I expect will happen first is that the Federal government will legalize it before the question has an opportunity to be decided in court.
For any Canadian or whoever doesn't have access to Fox Business, here is a link to a live stream of the channel:
Fox Business Live Stream
It's almost 240p!
Better than 0p which is all I can get otherwise north of Lake Ontario.
We get CNBC but don't get Fox Business on any cable or satellite provider up here. FB is allowed by the Canadian regulator too. It is too bad.
I hear ya, I'm just busting your balls. For not letting me bang your wife.
I thought you were trying to cuckold a different Canadian...
D'oh. Big flappy heads...they all look alike to me.
Amazing how casually you mention that the regulator decides if a network can be carried.
(not that our FCC in the states isn't nuts, and doesn't have ridiculous arbitrary regulations)
I absolutely hate the TV/radio regulations up here. Its fucking ridiculous the protectionism that they push. The internet has made it even more ridiculous and useless.
I am more and more looking for a way out of Canada. I love certain things but important things to me are completely backwards up here to what I think they should be.
On topic: Welch just dropped the "bitch" bomb... gettin feisty!
Canada's "minimum canadian culture" law/regulation had the wonderful backfiring of Bob and Doug McKenzie, though.
The regulations aren't substantially better here, and getting worse fast.
Canada has some lighter regs when it comes to profanity and nudity. But media regulations aren't really what I worry about since I have the internet.. Gun laws, socialist health care, and the general lack of a will for liberty here are my biggest issues.
My step-mom is Canadian (mom too, actually).
Step-mom's SIL came to Detroit for cancer treatment/diagnosis (nothing different than what the Canadian docs are doing in this case, but getting an opinion from the center here.)
Step-mom's BIL is a big-time shooter, lots of nice "restricted" toys. Occasionally makes it over here for cowboy shoots and other range times. He's got a lot more AR's than me, but I have bigger mags 🙂
I don't think I'll ever go for the restricted license. If you get it and buy a restricted firearm you have to agree to allow the police to search your residence/private property at any time with no warrant and without any sort of heads up. That rule makes getting the restricted license a non-starter for me.
My Dad tore a tendon in his knee in August up here and luckily got into surgery within a week.. but this is the exception to the rule. A brand new surgeon had just started practicing in town and didn't have patient's yet so the timing worked out. Otherwise it would have been a 6 week minimum wait to get the surgery.
Holy shit, didn't realize that part. It's the Tulpa plan, ouch.
Just troll the NRC events list...it seems like every week one or two plants are terminating employees for drugs/alcohol on the job. You should be able to find a job in no time.
About to apply for an Engineering positions with SCANA in South Carolina. Would love to move down there.
Come here and fix San Onofre.
I wish I could have somehow helped save that plant. It is a shame that it was shutdown.
Yeah, too bad that's not going to happen. It's a real shame.
What types of units are you working with now? Are you a licensed op?
I'm an engineer. Doing criticality work on CANDU's right now.
Cool stuff. I knew a couple of Nuc Es in college. I would have loved to do it, but everyone was advising against it due to the perceived limited job potential back in the '90s. I was in chemical engineering. My dad was a nuke in the navy, and I've always been interested in nuclear power based on him.
My undergrad is ChemE, got a masters degree in Nuclear Engineering.
When I started it was supposed to be the nuclear renaissance but a combo of Fukushima and cheap natural gas has stalled that out. I have hopes for the industry but the regulators need to get out of the way to allow nuclear power to innovate.
Are you eligible for a US security clearance? I might know somebody...
Depends. I'm a US citizen but if it is Q clearance or above I would have to give up my Canadian citizenship to get clearance.
Probably L, but I dunno.
Would you have to stop posting here too?
Nope. Just can't discuss work.
I used to work for a big US electric utility and considered a move into the nuke side but stayed in fossil and ended up leaving that just before the economic crash and the free fall in power pricing.
Agreed on the innovation needed. Some country is going to surpass us on this front some day. I'm surprised China is bothering to give Westinghouse business. Of course, once the AP1000s go commercial in China, they'll just copy the design themselves and go on their own.
I do think SMRs have potential in the US, especially since they can be located underground and/or colocated with existing or retired fossil plants where grid access is assured.
"Of course, once the AP1000s go commercial in China, they'll just copy the design themselves and go on their own."
If this happens they will have an event which will make people giggle about thinking Fukushima was anything to get upset about. The Chinese think shortcuts are the mark of a genius and their idea of safety is "Well, if it hasn't happened yet..."
Actually just tried stream 2 and it has much better resolution. Probably close to 480p.
Meh, it freezes every 5 seconds.. not worth the better resolution.
FWIW, I'm streaming directly off of FBN and it's not much better. Every time someone moves, it goes all to pixelated hell.
Cool, thanks. (Not Canadian.)
Thanks, Fishin Joe.
I have Charter and they don't carry FBN in Georgia.
I think we get the Catfish Channel though.
Get a load of Prometheus over here.
I am Kennedy, hear me interrupt.
I AM BECOME KENNEDY INTERLOPER OF DISCUSSIONS
Did Kennedy become Aeon Flux over the break?
VIDEO NUT PUNCH!
There is no such thing as a nonviolent drug offender. People who use drugs force society to man up and kick down doors and shoot dogs. For the children. And money.
Exactly. Why do Kennedy and Welch hate children? WHY DO THEY WANT OUR CHILDREN TO USE DRUGS?
That's what makes Biden so valuable. Ask his advice and do the exact opposite.
Someone's not getting invited to cocktail parties.
Joe Biden wrong? Will any of these idiots mention the 0 for all 8 years of Dickless Cheney?
"They will greet us with flowers"
"Deficits don't matter"
"No question Iraq has WMD".
"We traced Al Qaeda to Prague"
Holy fuck!
Is Cheney still vice president or is Biden currently vice president?
That proves Biden was right on Iraq because obviously he didn't vote for use of force.
Funny, I just read a H&R thread yesterday where everyone here thought partitioning Iraq by Muslim tribe was a good idea.
Biden 2004 idea.
I remember him saying we need to spend more money to keep from going bankrupt.
And this.
That doesn't address the fact that you go out of your way, every time, to divert criticism of your dear leader and his company by bringing up some "but look what the republicans did 10 years ago!!!" distraction. 95% of commentators here are not fans of establishment Republicans. This is a libertarian website. Will you ever get that?
If you are a libertarian you should be grateful the GOP is not in the executive branch today.
I am deadass serious. I can name 50 reasons why.
" This is a libertarian website. Will you ever get that?"
He might possibly get it if Obama wrote it on the next condom they share. At least it would be right in his face - and at the center of his universe - for a few minutes.
Is that sprinkler water yummy?
You know, PB, I know most people here don't like you, but I do. Because whenever I mess something up and feel like the dumbest person on earth, I remember that's impossible, because you exist.
Needz moar CHRISTFAG!
I've updated my material.
No, no you haven't.
Interrupted the Interruptor!
The world's largest office building has bureaucracy?
Someday I'm gonna write a book about this place. Mhm, a real smack-a-rooni.
My wife is on to me. She figured out that I just watch the show because I've had a crush on Kennedy for two decades.
Three if you count Teddy.
While I was a liberal in my youth, I'm going to go vomit now.
Shit. Hoping my wife doesn't figure that out.
Fist's "Aeon Flux" comment didn't help, either.
So that's why everyone stopped commenting for an entire segment. You were in your bunks.
45 seconds of Kennedy?!? It's like I'm 13 again!
Just need Smells Like Teen Spirit in the background.
I have been resisting, but I may not be able to for much longer.
resisting watching the show that is, not that awful "bunk" stuff you guys are always on about.
Not everyone is lucky enough to have the space to tug it on the living room couch.
Hey, it's Glenn Reynolds.
HI EVERYBODY!
HI, DOCTOR INSTAPUNDIT!
The Independents threads remind me of that old Mystery Science Theater 3000 show.
I can't watch The Independents. A 'novela' is on my teevee and potentially angry female is preventing me from changing channel. Do I qualify as a victim? This could trigger me...
Oh God, oh God, oh God thank you that Comcast doesn't carry Thai soap operas! They make telenovelas look like Downton Abbey in comparison. They are horrible and every. single. fucking. one. has the same. fucking. stupid. plot. with the same. fucking. stupid. actors.
And if they are like Japanese TV dramas they shoehorn in one of the most recent pop songs which you couldn't bleach out of your ears with a tank car of clorox.
I can't stand all this fucking cursing!
What a gosh-darned cunt.
Uh-oh, you're going to heck.
He darn sure is.
For stealing jokes.
Early xkcd is awesome.
How did I never see that far back on xkcd?!?
Of course you must know Garfield Minus Garfield
Of course. Genius.
Positive 8? PUSSIES!
The chicks have some balls!
Yo dude, all new Tree House Masters on this Friday. You're practically famous!
My cousin's thing is on at 10PM EST. It's the one called Temple of Adventure. (His last name is Temple)
Per stirpes, isn't some of the treehouse yours?
Nope. It's all his. But I can use it pretty much anytime. Of course it's 2000 miles away. And I live in paradise, why the fuck would I want to go to PA?
I'm confused. I pulled out my charts, drew a 2000 mi circle around the center of PA, and couldn't find paradise anywhere...
You are mistaken...right here!
So skiing/snowboarding is covered, as is your fishing and bird hunting. Where is the surfing, scuba, and chicks in bikinis?
You'd be surprised at the women here...
...corn fed!
Never been a beach person. I mean I like it, but it's not a priority.
I might grow out of it when I am retirement age, but I perceive it to be a priority now. If it's one of those 5am days where I am out of steam by lunchtime, I strap my kid into the back seat of my bike, ride down the beach for a while, and get back to work like it's 5am, but in a better mood. It's just an effective way of re-charging the batteries. I dunno, maybe you got the same thing by flying above the clouds...
I would be all over that like wet on a a whale but my wife complains bitterly when it gets below 40 degrees F. NM is about as close as I'll ever be able to drag her.
-2 here, -15 when I left for work this morning.
Not freaking going in tomorrow. Screw this shit.
I am getting an ad about transvaginal mesh/bladder sling.
That Fox demo is fucking old enough to chew food for.
The ads are based upon your browsing habits not demographics, dumbass.
Thats why I had a beer commercial...
Not true on streaming media - only the banner ads.
Aqua Rug on now. I know others are getting this shit.
Yea, that's your browsing. Like when people on here complain about the Thai/Russian mail order brides.
Interesting. I only ever get ads for Chinese mail-order brides international dating.
Bullshit. When I watch The Masters streaming I get their sponsors - Travelers Insurance, IBM, or Cadillac.
Colder than a witch's tit.
In a brass bra.
It's so cold, I saw a guy paying a prostitute to blow on his hands!
It's so cold, on Capitol Hill members of Congress are keeping their hands in their own pockets!
It's so cold, men every where are willing to spoon Lena Dunham.
That last one. I don't believe it.
It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. The problem was how to prevent them from rolling around the deck. The storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on 16. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.
There was only one problem ? how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling from under the others.
The solution was a metal plate with 16 round indentations, called, for reasons unknown, a monkey. But if this plate was made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make them of brass ? hence, brass monkeys.
Few landlubbers realise that brass contracts much more than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey.
Thus, it was quite literally, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.
Lies.

MOAR SCARVES!
No matter if The Independents is good or even if it sucks, because it finally got us late nite links. WIN!
That's what I would say too if I couldn't actually watch it.
Welch's helpful tips. Newspaper in shoes to dry them out. WTF?
Kmele nailed him on that.
Live there for the lack of pythons.
I know I suggested everyone should move to Florida the other day, but I suspend that for New Yorkers. We already have enough of them.
Serious Florida question. If I move to Florida, will I need to take up boating/yachting as a hobby?
Only if it's an air boat. Or air yacht.
Icelandic African-American population this weekend: 1
I saw the aurora borealis here in western PA once. At the time I didn't know what it was. I talked to friends who are 911 dispatchers and they said they got calls. True story.
I fired my shotgun at it.
I bet it was just barely out of range.
I did once as well, way back in the '80s, probably around 1984 - 1986 in Johnstown. Only time I've ever seen it.
Nobody in the cold weather segment talked about it being so cold their nipples could cut glass.
I'm lookin at you, Matt.
Can we report Startup NY (or whatever it's called) to the Better Business Bureau?
Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Located entirely within your kitchen?
May I see it?
How to Tell If a Canadian is Mad At You
15. They burn down the White House.
Haha this one made me laugh.
This was good: 7. They do not make sure your hearts line up when you hug.
They give you a bag of milk?
No one knows what Satan looks like.
Plus the Cult of Baal will probably make a copyright claim.
Hey Matt, if you want more activity and page clicks at this hour have Kennedy repeat her argument that atheism is a religion.
And even more clicks if she does it while neked.
I find talking goat heads blasphemous.
Even in soup?
He's in prison, Matt. Relax.
He won't look you up for years.
AH! Lou Dobbs.
AHH!!!
Yeah that scared me
You know it's coming, but it still scares the crap out of you every time.
Straight into Lou Fucking Dobbs? Harsh.
After The Independents ends they should have 10-15 seconds of dead air followed by a loud siren while the words DOBBS IS COMING flash across the screen in various neon colors.
That way you'd know Dobbs is coming and could change the channel without getting Dobbsed right in the face.
It could be worse - that fucking idiot with the Brit accent named Stuart Varney.
Quick! Change the channel before Lou Dobbs comes on!
Too late.
Tell my family I love them.
Tell my wife she's a biiiiitch
I hollered over to Andrew, I said, "Don't look, Andrew!" But it was too late. He'd already been Dobbed. Lou'd, right there on Fox Biz.
**dramatic recreation**
Close.
Streaking.
One of the few good things to happen in the 70s.
70's streaking! Now with 200 percent more bush!!!
BOOOSSHH!
No fair!
Kmele busts out "We're just asking questions" -- I like him more ever week.
And Welch busts out amazing baseball trivia from Tigers 10 years ago (or so), when they lost 130 games.
THAT'S A WRAP EVERYONE! Someone turn down Kennedy.
Inmate escapes prison, turns himself in after going outside
DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE SHOW?????
Canadians aren't allowed to.
DID YOU EVEN READ THE THREAD?
I, like JW, can't tell Canadians apart. I thought he was the one watching online.
That's okay, I confused Canadian cities on Sunday night. Sarnia is socialism on the lake, London is socialism between Windsor and Toronto, where the 401 and 402 meet.
STOP MICROAGRESSING AND OTHERING ME
Wait, Jebediah Bila was on this episode and I didn't watch?!?!
She's easily the hottest person I know named Jebediah.
Jedediah too.
Holy fuck, I've been calling her by the wrong name for like 7 months. I've always wondered by she had the same name as a 55 year old Amish man.
Does knowing that it's Jedediah really change that?
No, it definitely makes sense now. Her parents came up with her name during some sort of schizophrenic delusion.
They knew she was going to be ridiculously hot, so that decided to handicap her with a dumb name.
She was named after Patrick Swayze's character in Red Dawn.
+100% hotter.
If this is true, then her parents, as well as doublessly being very good looking, are the coolest human beings in the history of the world.
WOLVERINES!
AVENGE ME!
OK, folks, wanna end world poverty and cure what ails anyone? Or at least try to inject a tiny bit of sense into US gov't policy?
"It's time to put the RFS [ethanol] to rest. Submit your comments to the EPA today!"
http://smarterfuelfuture.org/t.....dium=email
Oh, and I didn't look. It may have the added benefit of being 'associated with' the KOCK BROS!
Like the EPA listens to "comments". They do whatever the fuck they want.
I don't doubt that, but ignoring 'non-comments' is even easier.
Call me an optimist; I signed on.
There is a certain value in getting the people who supported RFS to admit they were wrong, even if the petition is ignored.

The future is awesome.
Seriously. I'll be able to scan and then 3D-print copies of my dong.

Another reason to hate Dobbs: He dissed Peter Schiff.
Everyone in the investment community has dissed Peter the Shiff. Seriously, he is a laughing stock even at the Wall St Journal.
Citation please.
According to some of Schiff's own clients, portfolios invested with Schiff were down anywhere from 40 - 70% last year. Ouch. (Shedlock posted an image of an actual Schiff portfolio)
Michael Shedlock points out 12 ways Peter Schiff was wrong last year:
12 Ways Schiff Was Wrong in 2008
Wrong about hyperinflation
Wrong about the dollar
Wrong about commodities except for gold
Wrong about foreign currencies except for the Yen
Wrong about foreign equities
Wrong in timing
Wrong in risk management
Wrong in buy and hold thesis
Wrong on decoupling
Wrong on China
Wrong on US treasuries
Wrong on interest rates, both foreign and domestic

This was his "good" year - the doom year of 2008.
Don't doubt the Buttplug!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You are the biggest idiot I associate with.

"Everyone in the investment community has dissed Peter the Shiff. Seriously, he is a laughing stock even at the Wall St Journal."
So does someone tell janitors this stuff or did you find a note in trash can you were emptying?
Go fuck you daddy.
I clearly remember Pete being berated by the idiots on Forbes on Fox when he predicted the housing crash.
Red Hat will team up with CentOS.
ubuntu is kicking ass!!

Nothing excites me more than companies teaming up to deliver enhancements to computer operating systems that were designed 40 years ago.
Which operating system should they enhance, then?
QNX.
Why run an RTOS on servers?
I think the message passing micro-kernal of QNX is just tits. Whether that technology is classified as an RTOS or general purpose is a marketing decision. QNX, the v4 version to which I am referring, does not support external virtual memory, but that's becoming increasingly irrelevant.
I suspected you would bring up the microkernel
I've read this article about 20 times now, and still find something that didn't fully click before.
http://www.qnx.com/developers/.....298_1.html
Do you use QNX for a job?
Good question. No. QNX might be running in on several appliances I regularly use but I haven't the chance to deal with directly for a long time.
The only similar OS I've made any contact with recently is Wind River's VXWorks. This is the OS platform used in Schneider Electric's programmable logic controllers. You really have to squint your eyes and pay close attention to even see though.
Jesus, we run ancient complex systems on VxWorks. No one understands it and the executive that it requires for our application is a hot mess. That said, these systems still manage to work 30 years later.
Really? Not Plan 9 from Bell Labs?
And as a side-note, while it's a clone of the much-older Unix, Linux itself is only a bit over 20 years old.
Windows 8 is brand new.
So that makes it better right?
Of course!
I know you're being facetious, but holy Christ are the Win8 defenders on various other sites obnoxious pricks (probably paid by MS).
Logical
Conservatives, perhaps because they come to the conformist mentality more easily than liberals, tend to be more cognizant of how much political discourse is governed by the Overton window and not by niceties like intellectual honesty and rigor. So they're attempting to make an example out of Myerson for the rest of liberals: Do not even consider bringing up policy ideas to fix our income inequality problems or this will happen to you
Conservatives are clearly afraid, particularly that the public might warm to these ideas. Which is all the more reason for liberals to start pushing harder. If conservatives are this afraid to have a discussion about income inequality, it's because they know that it's a weak spot for them and a strong spot for liberals.
Like gun control.
Advocating for guaranteed work means calling the conservative bluff on this. "Okay," you say to conservatives, "How about we start a new WPA and when people come in for food stamps and unemployment, we offer them a decent-paying job on the spot doing work that needs to be done anyway?" If they really believe that people aren't working because they're lazy, there's no danger in making that offer, right? People will turn it down and their point will be proved.
Even back then people mocked the WPA. Can you imagine what it would be like today?
Like the defense contracting industry?
The left is making hay with this income inequality fallacy. It needs to be rigorously debunked every time one of these idiots mention it. For the love of Christ, they literally INVENTED a non-existent issue out of thin air to convince the retarded to vote for them. It's beyond ludicrous.
..."It needs to be rigorously debunked every time one of these idiots mention it."...
This presumes the audience would consider logical evidence; see our resident brain-deads, evidence is irrelevant.
We have team blue (go SHREEK!) and the appearance of 'caring for the people' (go TONY the TURD!). And for those not quite as brain damaged, we still have the promise of FREE SHIT!
Gonna be tough to debunk, especially after the unemployment benes get extended; what right thinking person could oppose that!?
-------------------------------
..."For the love of Christ, they literally INVENTED a non-existent issue out of thin air to convince the retarded to vote for them. It's beyond ludicrous."
FREE SHIT speaks louder than logic any day.
'In a debate before children, the confectioner will win over the dietitian every time' (can't remember from whom I stole that).
Well, we can fight it or let it become fact through our acceptance of their bullshit.
Yep, and I'll put my name on that fight the same as the ethanol list above.
And hope it might have some effect.
I've had this argument countless times. Either you get it, or you don't. I've had people tell me that it's not fair that I have more money than I "need", and I tell them the story of my 20's, and the 80-100 hour work weeks with no vacations for years at a time. Some people are motivated by my story and appreciate it, and others think it isn't fair that my wife and I were "able" to work so much.
Reason works with some people; for the rest, I have my gun collection. You want my stuff, come and get it!
wut
I guess you're just lucky that your wife didn't spontaneously become pregnant.
She did this month, but I was prepared.
And that always brings to mind a question I always ask. Why is their concern limited to money? There's a host of other good things that aren't evenly distributed. I don't have supermodels fellating me. They're busy spending their time with guys who are hipper and more handsome. That's not fair. I think we should start passing laws to end the horror of supermodel fellatio inequality.
"...they literally INVENTED a non-existent issue out of thin air to convince the retarded to vote for them."
Well, strictly speaking, coveting your neighbor's goods isn't exactly new.
Yes. The problem in America is that we haven't heard enough leftist propaganda re: "income inequality".
/SARC
Fuck off, slavers. I am immune to envy.
Do not even consider bringing up policy ideas to fix our income inequality problems or this will happen to you[.]
Red Pill conservatives like Pat Buchanan have been complaining about income inequity and the destruction of america's middle class for decades. Pat even favors industrial and immigration policies to mitigate the damage. He was regular at MSNBC for heaven's sake.
'Converatives': we know who you are what you think unless your sitting right next to us.
Guess what! If you really want to know what someone who calls herself Professor Crunk has to say about Romney's black grandkid, then today's your lucky day!
Good. God.
Sadly, that quotation isn't even close to the most offensive portion of the original Salon article.
I just clicked over to Salon. There are at least three articles on their front page that feature stock photos of Rand Paul.
They seem genuinely threatened by him.
Good.
P.S.- Serious Man, are you good with guns? I just though of another potential venue for a SoCal reason meet up. It could be as fun as an all-you-can-eat contest...
I've only been shooting once, so I'm hardly experienced with it. That said I wouldn't be opposed to that kind of meet up.
I have snap caps for all of my calibers, so I can walk you through it first. I suspect Jesse might not have much experience either, so it can be a (non-gay) 2-fer.

Where the hell is Jesse BTW? Haven't seen him in weeks.
I've been emailing back-and-forth with him, including yesterday, so he is at least alive.
Thane, he mentioned that you like to send dick pics.
He is/was in Germany (hopefully banging hot dudes).
Ya know, while I fully support that...I don't know if I'll ever be THAT comfortable with it. 😉
If you're going to do something, do it right.
To clarify: If he bangs a dude that's out of his league, he's gonna get a high five from me. Credit where credit is due, etc etc.
No problem with that...just don't need details.
Me neither. A high five is enough.
Cool. A Reason shoot-off.
I know there are a few Reasonoids from the Albuquerque area who I should meet up with sometime when I am back home. I've got just about all the hardware we would need - if people chipped in with ammo were could make some noise.
I would call it a Reason militia.
I have the opposite problem in CA. Too much ammo and not enough hardware.
I have literally taken photos of some of my more favorite rifles on a bed of assorted black rifles/shotguns which you could barely see the floor beneath. I build and collect them in numbers.
If/when I finally ship my NFA stuff over from AZ to NM my collection in ABQ could outfit an A-team with just about anything they would want or need - short of explosives.
If the libertarian revolution comes it will be me.
I'm sure I, with my 10 round mags, could be of assistance from CA.
Besides some stuff I got during the AWB era the only things I have 10 round magazines for are in 12 gauge - Saiga-12's and MKA-1919's.
But you would be welcome anyway. Show up early enough and you can take your pick.
Does everything always have to be political with these people?
If you want a shot of testosterone, flip over to AMC. Braveheart is on and Gibson's about to shout: FREEEEDDOOMMMMM!
I twisted my dentist's arm one time when he hit a nerve hard. I would not stand up to torture. I would best serve the fight for FREEEDDOMMMM with a cyanide capsule in my mouth.
In the Year of Our Rothbard, Two Thousand Fourteen, Libertarians of America, marginalized and outnumbered, took to the forums of the internet.

EVIL CAPITALISM AT WORK!
EVIL RELIGION AT WORK!
I expect anyone posting that poster to be logically consistent and never criticize capitalism or religion again.
My favorite capitalism example is the nighttime satellite photo of the Korean peninsula.
Yeah, I wish our ISS astronauts would talk about that more because I bet they notice it.
What? Snowplows plowing an already clear highway? Seems PERFECT to me.
They are blocking both lanes at the same time... It's almost like the TSA
You feel an earthquake? Heard there was 2 point something centered at Marina del Rey.
My house is on a 3 ft slab of 3000 psi concrete, so a 2 point something is barely a wet fart here.
Still enough to warrant a breaking news flash, apparently. Can't remember the last quake I felt, maybe 4 years ago?
Last one I felt was Chino Hills.
MORE EVIL CAPITALISM AT WORK!

Yep. That's where I'm headed when SHTF.

Chile has some of if not the best astronomical observatories on terra firma, and I would be happy ending my years spending my time looking out through said scopes.

That's Mauna Kea right?
Haleakala. Here's a photo of Mauna Kea from the summit of Haleakala. Roughly 120 miles of visibility above the clouds....
Aww man, totally jealous.
Thanks for the pics. I bet it was cool as hell.
Fortunately the president-elect is a socialist.
She's a member of the Chilean Socialist Party and also held power from 2006-2010. The Chilean Socialist Party is almost certainly to the right of our Republicans.
From what I can tell she campaigned on the whole "Reduce Income Inequality" schtick, so she might be more left-wing this time around.
But I can't see that going farther than just throwing more money at education and some anti-poverty programs.
She certainly identifies with the left, eg Progressive Leaders Summit.
Night kids.
Violated Market for international currency exchange market.
I'm hard-pressed to say the Satanists are wrong about this. If your position is that it's okay to have a religious display in public spaces, I can't really see why you can pick and choose religions.
