Gov. Christie Reaches Compromise for Tuition for NJ Undocumented Immigrants
To make them eligible to pay in-state rates for college
The children of undocumented immigrants in New Jersey would be eligible for in-state tuition at state colleges after Governor Chris Christie reached a deal with legislative leaders, Senate President Stephen Sweeney said
Under the compromise, Democrats who control the Legislature agreed to strike a provision allowing those students access to some state financial aid programs, Sweeney, a Democrat from West Deptford, said at a news conference today in Trenton.
Lawmakers will approve the bill, Sweeney said, and Christie has indicated he will sign it into law.
