South Sudan President: Government Thwarted Coup Attempt By Former VP

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir on Monday said government forces had thwarted an attempted coup allegedly engineered by former vice president Riek Machar who was fired from his post in July.

In a televised address to the nation, and flanked by government officials, the president said the military had foiled a coup orchestrated by "a group of soldiers allied with the former vice president".

It's funny how outside of Judeo-Christian European cultures, "Democracy" always descends into chaos, coups, and ultimately, civil war.

I always wonder how stupid people had to be to think popularity contests produce anything other than exceptional liars for leaders, which isn't always a bad thing in that they COULD also lie to foreign leaders on your nation's behalf. Problem is when all of the countries are democracies, they can see through each other's rhetoric so it doesn't work in foreign policy, and in fact they share so much in common with each other, they usually unite against their respective peoples.

i.e. US-UK partnerships to spy on their own people illegally. Partnering up to lie to their own people. Covert oppression vs. overt oppression. One could argue at least dictators are honest...

Although to be fair, the US has only existed for 230 years and it's had one of the bloodiest civil wars, and launched nearly 100 conflicts abroad.

Similar to the Roman Republic it's based on... constant external warfare to distract from domestic problems.

I believe America is losing its greatness because it is losing its goodness, particularly its value of self-suffiency.
