Kennedy, Matt Welch, Kmele Foster to Launch New Nightly Fox Business Show Called The Independents
As scooped over at Reason 24/7, Fox Business Network has announced a brand spanking new television show featuring some familiar faces! From the press release:
FOX Business Network (FBN) will debut The Independents, a new primetime program hosted by Lisa Kennedy Montgomery (Kennedy), on Monday, December 9th announced Kevin Magee, Executive Vice President of the network.
The program, which will appear Monday through Wednesday and Friday nights at 9PM/ET, will feature a roundtable discussion on the news of the day with a special emphasis on the protection of economic and civil liberties. Each evening, Kennedy will be joined by her co-hosts, Reason magazine's Matt Welch and America's Future Foundation's Kmele Foster, as well as a rotating panel of experts. FBN's Stossel, hosted by John Stossel, will continue to appear at 9PM/ET on Thursdays.
Kennedy joined FBN as a contributor and special correspondent to Stossel in 2012. She is the author of two books; The Kennedy Chronicles: The Golden Age of MTV Through Rose-Colored Glasses and Hey Ladies! Tales and Tips for Curious Girls. She is also the host of Music in the Morning w/ Kennedy on 98.7FM Los Angeles Alternative radio and serves as a contributor to Reason.com.
A graduate of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Kennedy holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy. She got her start in television as an MTV video jockey (VJ) in 1992.
See the Reason.com archives for material from Kennedy, Kmele Foster, and moi. The three of us will be on Stossel tomorrow night at 9 PM ET (get used to that time slot!) talking about the show and other issues.

Matt, hopefully your input into this show has gone more smoothly than did with your brief stint with the Digital Entertainment Network (DEN).
Thankfully, David Newman is not within a thousand miles of this project. (Figuratively speaking; he might work a cupla subway stops away in real life.)
Some local affiliate in San Francisco should run syndicated episodes of Dallas opposite this ...
Perhaps "old" episodes of The Newsroom.
Live blog while doing the show. I triple-dog-dare you.
That would be awesome. I'd even accept live Tweeting.
There will be some of the latter, at the least.
Is this going to be one of those new-fangled serialized dramas in which a main character arc takes him or her to the depths of hell to emerge in the series finale as a changed person?
Hopefully they will work a Red Wedding episode in every couple of seasons, to purge those that fail the Libertarian Purity Tests.
I doubt the Welch character makes it past the first season. He's surrounded by traitors, yet he remains unaware.
So Welch is Ned Stark, Nick is Tyrion. Help me out here...
I'd hate to think of Kennedy as Cersei, so she must be Arya.
Kennedy is Melissandre and Stossel Stannis.
Lucy is Danerys, exiled but gathering an army to take back Reason with fire and blood.
Sweeps is coming.
The lead-in is dark and full of terrors.
In the game of Fox Biz shows, you win your time slot or you get replaced by Geraldo.
No, The Jacket is Tyrion. Nick is Bronn
Jesus, no spoilers!!
And will the series have space aliens? Specifically, The Jacket? Having the "Nick" character on from time to time would be okay too.
Nick I think could be a bug, like those things in those Fresh Prince in Black movies, co-starring Jonny Cash.
Congrats to Matt and Kennedy. Looking forward to the first show (but not the second - just kidding!).
I'm sure FBN is not available in Canada. Is there a stream?
A stream? A RIVER runs through it...
It'll be viewable on the website every night, AFAIK.
Probably couldn't stream it in Canada either.
Good, good. I brag about paying only 60$ a month for internet and (incredibly basic) cable. I was thinking about upgrading to include FBN for this show and rejoice in having an alternative.
Make sure they feature your emerging distinguished grey, Matt. It'll get the boomers to stay tuned a bit longer.
One of these things is NOT like the other....
Surely, MSNBC is looking for a new show after Alec Baldwin Hour was cancelled.
But I guess FOX just threw gobs of money at Kennedy and Welch.
Wow, I can't believe libertarians are getting on TV. Everytime you turn around they're getting dangerous-er and dangerous-er.
He doesn't even say what those ideas ARE, only that they're dangerous and libertarians have them. And they should sit across from the widows and orpans of 9/11 and feel ashamed of their dangerous ideas.
orphans!
What a big fat pussy Christie is, hiding behind widows and orphans. Pathetic.
Looks like it might be good. Will definitely check it out.
They stole the idea for this show from me. The tweaked the premise just enough so they wouldn't have to pay me royalties. My idea was pretty much exactly this, except it was Welch and Kennedy driving around the country in a high tech RV solving crimes.
That sounds interesting, actually.
Throw in some sharknados, though.
I'm gonna watch!
Wow, congrats guys!
1. I am totally in for a live blog drinking game. Which would be life-threatening unless the show gets cancelled quickly. Just saying.
2. If there is nudity, I expect it to be tasteful and artistic.
3. When did TV go away from the tried and true wacky chimpanzee sidekick character?
Libertarian TV, great!
Fox Business Network has announced a brand spanking new television show.
There's spanking? During prime time?
Spanking Kennedy's donkey?
The show will become the main reason to ask your cable programmer to add FBN to your channel lineup and then, one day, it will be cancelled for no good reason, with the former hosts given some token time as "Fox News contributors" during Gretchen Carlson's "The Real Story" where they will discuss important things like the good parenting skills of movie actors.
Matt,
Will you be pushing this out on the Reason Podcast so I can listen on the way to work?
I hate reality tv.
I hope they make these available on-line for those of us that are television impaired.
