Al Qaeda-Linked Group Asks For Forgiveness After Mistakenly Beheading Fellow Rebel in Syria

Al Qaeda-linked fighters in Syria are asking for forgiveness after mistakenly beheading a fellow rebel, thinking that the man was a Shiite fighter from Iraq.
After video footage of members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant holding the severed head was released rebels in another Islamist group, Harakat Ahrar al-Sham, said they recognized the head as that of Mohammed Fares Maroush, one of their commanders.
From the BBC:
An al-Qaeda affiliated rebel group in Syria is reported to have asked for forgiveness after beheading a fellow rebel in a case of mistaken identity.
A video recently posted online showed members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) brandishing the severed, bearded head of a man.
They said was an Iraqi Shia caught fighting on the government side.
But other rebel fighters watching the video recognised the man and said he was one of their commanders.

Okay, I'm getting tired of waiting for Suderman to make another Obamcare post, so I'll just put this here. It seems to be the antithesis of what Suderman was saying yesterday in that Maddow is saying, like Romneycare, if you just "be patient" everything will work out.
Yeah, I don't trust Maddow at all, but she is regarded as an intellectual fountainhead of the Progressives, so be prepared to hear the "just be patient" narrative popping up in the news shortly.
I've been on RomneyCare for six years now. It's not working out.
You know, if liberals start parroting this Maddow talking-point, I'm going to ask "Well, why didn't you vote for Romney in 2012?"
Prior to Romneycare Massachusetts already had the highest percentage of insured people in the country. Romneycare added only 5% to that number.
The two are nowhere close in scale.
That was all over proggie radio this morning. The goalposts have been moved to, "...by next summer, certainly by next November. You'll see, people will LOVE this."
Actually, if they're smart, they'll just push the goal posts to 2017.
oops
So when are our terrorists going to appologise for all the times they shot the people they were supposed to be protecting?
Oh wait, it's never their fault because they followed procedure.
When you overthrow an omelette you're going to chop the heads off a few hens.
*golf clap*
in Saudi Arabia, it would have been a *public beheading clap*
Hard to clap with one or fewer hands.
CLAPPING IS FORBIDDEN TO THEIVES!!!
I'm pretty sure you quoted that . . . perfectly.
This is why we should get involved over there. Because everyone currently over there is so very rational.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The guy who lost his head isn't laughing.
Apology Accepted...

Geez, terrorists behead the wrong guy and they publicly own up to their mistake?
I wish our politicians had that much honor...
They didn't want to even admit they did something this horrible, but they had to because they were called out publicly in the Arabic newspaper Al-Quds (Qatari funded and based in London, just like the SOHR) after they posted these videos and other Islamists came out publicly saying this guy wasn't a Shiite. I am fairly certain more than an apology will be offered behind the scenes, as to head-off any revenge killing.
Oh yeah, my point is that honor had nothing to do with it, but limiting the embarrassment as well as the reaction from other Islamist groups.
Nicely done.
Ah, RTFA always helps...
"You infidel, off with your head! Oh! Oh, I'm sorry Larry, I didn't know it was you!
Guys! I told you, you need to carry your ID cards all the time! Read the HR policy that was sent last week!"
"Hey, wait. I think I know that guy."
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS)
So are they going to own up to putting the wrong letter in their acronym, too?
The final "S" actually stands for "Ash-Sham" or the broader area known as "Syria", as well as one of the names for Damascus. Northern Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Syria are all known as "Balaad Ash-Shaam", "Balaad" meaning nations. The implication is that current day Syria is a large part of what Arab Muslims refer to as "Ash-Sham".
The final "S" actually stands for "Ash-Sham"
Shouldn't it be a final "A" then?
"But it needs to spell out ISIS! We love that show!"
"Dude.... that's Maroush?"
AWK-WERRRD!
As the old saying goes = "sorry" doesn't mean as much when you've already cut their head off.
on topic = in case you've never seen World's Wildest Terrorist-Video Bloopers, see below

This is how every incident of friendly fire went down, 500 years ago.
A video recently posted online showed members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) brandishing the severed, bearded head of a man.
LOOSE CANNONS! Gosh, that is so classic them.
Meanwhile, in the land of the free and the home of the brave...
A 25-year-old U.S. ban on any firearms that can escape discovery by a metal detector is scheduled to expire next month, just as law enforcement officials say they are closely watching the proliferation of plastic guns made with 3D printers.
Attorney General Eric Holder said on Friday that if the 1988 Undetectable Firearms Act is allowed to end, plastic guns made with the fast-evolving 3D printing technology could be smuggled more easily.
"This is a very worrisome threat to law enforcement and to people who fly every day. We can't have guns legally in circulation that are not detectable by metal detectors," Holder said in a statement.
Fearmongering is a 24/7 job.
If they're not detectable, how is the law going to...you know what, never mind.
If we don't prohibit the manufacture of undetectable guns, people who would have used illegal undetectable guns in crimes would now use legal undetectable guns in crimes. How do you not get that this represents an existential threat to everything everywhere?
Do they have plastic barrels? If not, they are quite detectable by metal detectors and X-rays.
They all look the same to me too.
+1 chinaman
Democratic Senator Charles Schumer of New York said in a statement that lawmakers "are actively exploring all options to pass legislation that will eliminate the threat of completely undetectable weapons."
"Mister President, we cannot allow an imaginary scary weapons gap!"
I had forgotten about the original law. Wasn't it passed because of the OH NOES TEH GLOCKS hysteria?
mistakenly beheading a fellow rebel
HA-HA! /Nelson
Procedures were followed, mistakes were made, guillotines were discharged.
"guillotines were discharged."
He should have been so lucky. But then, what goes around...
I came here to make a comment about the article, but apparently I didn't follow internet rule number 1, which is "Don't read the comments!" ...as everyone else just showed up to comment about their anti-progressive axe-to-grind-of-choice. :\
Anyway, in this case:
"'We call on God to accept Mohammed Fares into his Kingdom and to forgive his brothers that sought to rid us of the enemies of God and our enemies,' Omar Al-Qahatani said in Arabic in the ISIS statement."
Think about that for a minute. What he seems to be saying is "guys, sorry about that, but it's cool, he's up with God now, which is like way better, and God will forgive us because we're acting on his behalf."
Don't forget... "9/11 was a faith-based initiative."
as everyone else just showed up to comment about their anti-progressive axe-to-grind-of-choice
That is rather the normative use of the comments. New here?
Well, you can't expect the commenters here to say anything about about muslims
Because you know, we should open up our borders and invite them in. If you don't like their culture, you're a racist that hates brown people...
(even though they aren't any browner than say, Italians..)
It's Always Sunni In Damascus
Boo.
Also Boo.
It's Always Sunni In Damascus
No Shi'ite?
You know what other organization named ISIS frequently botched operations?
The one Lana Lang started on Smallville?
Multi-culti head choppy. Don't worry, their benevolent god gets a holy hard-on for slow decapitations. Very enlightening.
Other fora would never entertain talk of the latent effects of first-cousin marriage, widely practiced in the Arab world, but it really does explain a lot.
Assuming it *was* an accident and not the offing of a rival rebel leader...
"By Allah the Merciful, we are not going to sugar coat this...we may have been overly optimistic when we said that if you like your head, you can keep your head."
These are really great ideas in concerning blogging. You have touched some nice factors here. Any way keep up wrinting.
