Brickbat: Color of the Law
British horse riders have taken to wearing flousecent bibs when they ride on roads. The idea is to make themselves more visible to motorists and reduce the 3,000 accidents a year involving horses and vehicles. But police say anyone wearing such a bib could be mistaken for a police officer because mounted cops wear them, too. They've threatened legal action against both horse riders wearing the bibs and the companies that sell them.

Being mistook for a police horse has long been a problem in Britain.
I think it's time they face this problem.
What have you got against homosexual horses?
A triumph of English tolerance.
Mr Brown, 21, a student at Oxford University, had said to an officer: "Excuse me, do you realise your horse is gay?" Police took the case to court after Mr Brown refused to pay a ?80 fine.
Blimey, should have said: "Excuse me, do you realise your horse is NOT gay?"
"But police say anyone wearing such a bib could be mistaken for a police officer because mounted cops wear them, too. "
Same reason I don't drive a Crown Vic through East Dallas at night.
Crown Vics have fluorescent bibs?
But police say anyone wearing such a bib could be mistaken for a police officer because mounted cops wear them, too.
Driving a Crown Vic means you've been mounted?
Crown Vics have fluorescent bibs?
God, what a douche.
Rough morning?
Sy needs a better Synce of humor.
High five, bro.
God, what a douche.
Late December back in '63?

Doo dit doo dit dit doo dit doo dit dit
Like, a little early to be getting all serious, and stuff.
It's got a cop bib, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop hooves, cop legs, cop saddle. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular grain. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?
Jake: Fix the cigarette lighter.
It's a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we've got a full saddlebag of feed, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
DAMN YOU!!!
Hate the game, not the playa
It's 106 miles to London, we got a full feedbag of grass, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses to protect our eyes from the glare of the fluorescent bib.
Being seen wearing clothing similar to police could obviously lead to devastating consequences, such as is being seen in Hampshire. Better a few horses and riders get taken out than [insert negative consequences of a perceived increased police presence in public here] happens.
Cop uniforms around here are brown (sheriff), gray (state), blue (city) and green (county). That would be a lot of POLO shirt colors no one could wear.
Cop uniforms whould be a color no one wants to wear, like puce.
that made me go to Wikipedia:
Europeans love them their fluorescent green bibs. You can't go past a construction site or industrial plant without seeing dozens of them. In fact, I think they are required PPE on industrial sites in most of Europe.
What is not compulsory is forbidden.
Cops deserve protection, you don't.
And fuckstains like Dunphy continue to claim there's no double standard.
I protest the language per Dunphy. Yes, he continually claimed there was no double standard, but he also brought an interesting perspective and raised points about things like the War on Domestic Violence that Reason has never really touches upon AFAIK.
And he did it while deadlifting on a surfboard shooting a curl in tsunami.
dunphy is a piece of shit. Hopefully he'll eventually run in a toilet big enough to flush himself down.
I prefer Dunphy to someone who argues for the sake of argument and is intellectually dishonest, like Tulpa.
The idea that Dunphy is the embodiment of evil strikes me as pretty silly.
He's not evil, he's a piece of shit. And if you think he was intellectually honest, you've smoked some bad granola, hippie.
He was no different in his mission of deflection and derailment than shrike or Tony-puppet.
Yeah Dunphy was the same as shriek, all the cool kids agree.
What about the valid points he brought up about the deleterious and ignored WoDV?
"What about the valid points he brought up about the deleterious and ignored WoDV?"
There were none, Dunphy.
You're as piece of shit, and much too stupid to ever pullof that bit of sockpuppetry.
I find the lockstep Dunphy hate to be as bad as any other lockstep forum or team behavior and typical of shrillness tending to displace moderation and more wide-ranging dialog.
"I find the lockstep Dunphy hate to be as bad "
Because you're Dunphy, you pathetic piece of shit.
You're as piece of shit, and much too stupid to ever pullof that bit of sockpuppetry.
First of all, I've been posting here for quite a while, like 3 or 4 years. Previously under the handle of PS with an email address that you can confirm.
Secondly, learn to write proper English you fucking idiot.
He's considered evil because of his "good shoot" commentary when some cop murders a citizen.
Are the police using alt-text to protect themselves, too?
"Awesome butt-crack, Officer!"
Well done Ted.
My one funny joke for the day. Already at 7:22 AM. 🙁
British horse riders have taken to wearing flousecent bibs
I believe Charles meant to write: British horse riders have taken to wearing flousecent *blouses*.
Respect is a finite resource. You can't allow it to be wasted on civilian equestrians.
I thought the UK got rid of sumptuary laws many years ago
The idea that Dunphy is the embodiment of evil strikes me as pretty silly.
Fosdick embodies the banality of evil. He would beat you down and deliver you to the ovens while telling himself he is the true face of America.
Exactly.
I think he was posting in good faith (that is, not a troll). He gave a fascinating glimpse into the insular, tribalistic mindset of even the more sophisticated police.
Even a cop with glimmerings of self-awareness is nonetheless convinced that their highest duty is not to the public, but to themselves and their tribe (officer safety, anyone?), and that the special treatment their tribe gets is both (a) minimal and (b) completely justified.
I think he was posting in good faith and I give him a bit more credit than you do. Not that I feel particularly happy about defending him.
Reason regulars can be rather tribalistic themselves. Yeah, I know, they don't have the threat of force and the state behind them, blah blah blah. But it seems that good faith argumenents that deviate from the standard tend to get bitchslapped. See that idiot upthread trashing me for being a supposed Dunphy sockpuppet. This leads to an echo chamber with sockpuppets or whatever they are, like tony and shriek, knee jerk intellectually dishonest contrarians like Tulpa and Bo Cara rather dominating things.
Words cannot express how stupid this shit is.
And, of course, the people have to bend over to accommodate the state. Obviously, it wouldn't be the other way around.
