Shikha Dalmia in TIME on Why Ted Cruz and Rand Paul Should Wish Wendy Davis Good Luck
Texas' blonde babe Wendy Davis, who led the filibuster against Rick Perry's attempts to ding abortion rights, has just announced her candidacy for governorship. Davis, who transformed herself from trailer trash single mom to a Harvard
Law grad with a taste for Miu Miu heels, is making Democrats giddy with excitement, notes Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia in TIME Ideas. That's because her star power and compelling biography gives them the first shot in two decades to pull the Lone Star State into the blue column.
But, notes Dalmia, Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz should also wish her luck.
"Her candidacy is an early field test of their political strategy: Using filibusters on narrow issues that resonate with core constituencies as a tool for catapulting themselves from obscurity to greater political heights."

But filibusters, or her case fillybuster, are bad so say the professional lecturers on all that is decent.
Only if you have an R after your name.
Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz were considered possible 2016 candidates before their filibusters. Wendy Davis was not.
Not your best effort, Ms. Dalmia.
Giver her a break, she doesn’t really know how to write about anything but immigration and India
So because she, Paul and Cruz gave long talks in legislative bodies, they’re all alike and the two latter should wish her luck? No, that doesn’t make sense. You can only say that Paul is “playing to activists who care about one issue above all else” if you call liberty one issue. I think you’re just pulling in Paul and Cruz to get more page views in an otherwise interesting look at the Davis.
“Texas has a $100 billion budget surplus. What will Davis do with it?”
I think Dogbert could give the answer – “I can’t give the details of my strategy, but it rhymes with ‘village.'”

Not looking very blonde to me:

But easy on the eyes.
And, Dalmia, who transformed herself from trailer trash single mom, they prefer the term, ‘domicile pragmatist.’
Isn’t that a pic of Shikha?
Davis is blonde and a pretty hot MILF, but I will enjoy the hippie tears when she looses.
I don’t know who that is, but she isn’t Dalmia.
Wendy Davis is a name shared by the Texas rep, and the actress who is in the show Scandal.
And, ‘yes’ to enjoying their tears.
Not to be confused with Kerry Washington who is also in it, and the main star of the show.
“I’m a single mom, and I passionately believe that I would have had the right to abort my child at a late stage of pregnancy, at an ill-regulated abortion facility.”
Hmmm…I’m not sure if she could get nominated or elected in *Massachusetts,* much less in Texas.
But I could be wrong – maybe we’ll see a Governor Davis. Chief Justice Randy Travis could administer the oath of office.
Great message to send your kid–“Hey, I could have had you aborted but chose to raise you! Aren’t I the BEST?!”
I’m fighting for the right of women in my situation to kill their babies because I love my kids so much.
That is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Dalmia is seriously arguing that a one issue politician whose one issue is abortion has a chance of winning an election in deep Red Texas.
She’s going to lose by 30 points.
Davis, who transformed herself from trailer trash single mom to a Harvard Law grad with a taste for Miu Miu heels
So basically Sarah Palin.
One wonders if she can see Mexico from back porch.
You know who else from that region was named Davis and waged a war to avoid recognizing the humanity of a whole class of people?

According to Wikipedia, the Texas law she objects to would “require abortion clinics to meet the same standards that hospital-style surgical centers do, and mandate that a doctor who performs abortions have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital.”
So suddenly she’s against onerous regulations that restrict a person’s right to purchase legal good and services?
I look in vain for her pronouncements supporting marijuana, raw milk, organ selling, unregulated food trucks and taxis, an end to medical licensing, and other such nonsense.
Or is this just when it applies to her uterus?
I’d bet my uterus (the one I keep in the jar on my desk) that Wendy Davis thinks going after Apple because “they have too much money” is a fine thing for government to do.
Precisely this. I don’t want this dumb leftist as my Governor.
Oh, except Wendy Davis is a worthless Socialist shit-for-brains. Come on, Shikha…
I can guarantee you that she will not only be against all of those things, she would actively work to fuck up other shit.
The Republican candidate for Texas governor next time around certainly hopes for her success in the Democrat primaries … a single-issue, late term abortion rights fanatic has a snowball’s chance in a West Texas summer.
W. Davis will lose, but she will not lose that badly. If shez savvy, she’ll run a bleeding heart, idealistic (albiet doomed) campaign, saying all the cute liberal things that NY, LA, and DC want to hear. After defeat, she will be lauded & lionized by lefties from coast to coast. They love nothing more than a tragic heroine, cut down by the mindless hate mongering, rascist, war-against-women, fundamentalist, gun nut, extreme right wing fanatics, all too blind with hate fer women and the natural ecosystem to accept the ‘correct choices’ and obey their bi-coastal cultural and intellectual superiors. Davis will end up w/ a huge publishers’ advance for a memoir no one will read & maybe even get a short-lived a talk show on MSNBC. She’ll be able to command 5-digit speaking fees at pro-choice fundraisers & her kids will get into the best schools/jobs. Not too bad for a (former) trailer trash bleach blond single mom.
C’mon Reason, you’re usually classier than this. “Texas’ blonde babe”? Regardless of her political qualifications or aspirations, that’s a really sexist way to introduce her.
This is kind of academic, because I really don’t see the Hispanic plurality of Texas voters rallying behind her signature issue.
