Shikha Dalmia in the Wash Exam on Why the Gender Police Should Cut Obama Some Slack
The gender police has been up in arms at the paucity of women in Obama's cabinet and higher echelons of government. Hence, Obama's choice to replace Ben Bernanke as Fed chair has become something of a sexism test for him. Should he pass up the opportunity to make history by naming, Janet Yellen to head the Fed, feminists will take it as final proof that Obama doesn't care about female advancement.
This is especially the case, notes Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia in her Washington Examiner column this morning, since Yellen's competitor, and reportedly Obama's favorite, is Larry Summers, an abrasive man with a misogynistic streak whom feminists have despised ever since he suggested that women aren't as good as men at math and science. Christina Romer, former head of the Council of Economic Advisers, once complained that he made her feel like "a piece of meat" during meetings.
But is it possible that Obama, a movement liberal, who for a while was raised by a single mom and is raising two daughters of his own is a closet sexist? Or are there other explanations for his choices?

that's okay... don't really care.
STILL NOT AM LINKS!
Yeah, they're just screwing with us now.
urgh... they're going to post Lunch Links or something equally awfully named.

What is Valerie Jarrett, chopped liver?
The Queen Bee wants no competition!
Perhaps to the feminists, yes. If so, they think of her as just a piece of meat.
My understanding is that Valerie doesn't like other girls on her turf; hence the paucity of females.
Samantha Power? Sebelius? Napolitano? Clinton?
Larry Summers, an abrasive man with a misogynistic streak whom feminists have despised ever since he suggested that women aren't as good as men at math and science.
And where's the misogynism?
C'mon, man - all gender differences are culturally derived, don't you know that? This includes difference in genitalia.
Thankfully, we have endocrinology, surgical procedures and the AP style handbook to fix that.
I actually read an article stating this in my recent "Women in Literature" Class. Good thing I got that BS out of the way so I can actually learn useful stuff. General education classes in universities are god-awful. Why don't we just focus on our course of study like they do in Europe? What does a chemist need with ethnic studies courses?
I don't understand why a certain set of people in the world can't just be OK with the fact that, generally speaking, women are good at "X" and men are good at "Y" and that's just the wonderful, different world we live in.
generally speaking, women are good at "X" and men are good at "Y" bad.

Good question. Summers did nothing but point out an obvious fact. Why does Dalmia repeat the slander that he is a misogynist?
Facts are misogynist and racist. Using them is evil.
She doesn't say he has a misogynist streak because of that line, but that feminists hate him for that line in particular.
an abrasive man with a misogynistic streak
Ok, Tulpa, then why does he have a misogynistic streak?
Facts, objectivity, and logic are tools of the patriarchy used to oppress women womyn. Everyone knows the path to true enlightenment is feelings. Feminists feel Summers is a misogynist, so it must be true.
The sad thing is that the supposedly misogynistic speech wasn't misogynistic. He made a descriptive observation that women seemed to be far less likely to make groundbreaking inventions/discoveries than men (which is true) and speculated as to the reasons, both cultural and biological. Nowhere in the speech did he say women didn't deserve to be in those fields or that they couldn't make discoveries.
He made it to the faculty of HArvard University, who are really, really stupid people and went nuts. If he had made that speech at a symposium by Reason foundation he would have been ripped apart not for that but for his academic socialist ideas.
He then made things worse by not carefully massaging the fragile egos the aforementioned stupid faculty members.
He didn't suggest it. He stated that the evidence on the subject was pretty good. And it is. In general, men are better at spacial and abstract reasoning at nearly every age level. It doesn't mean that there aren't smart women who are extremely good at math and science, but if you're on a panel on why there aren't more women in STEM majors, this might be a place to start your discussion.
Summers never said that and it's a statement to both the innumeracy and dishonesty of feminists that this lie keeps getting repeated. What he said was that it's possible that men have a greater variance in math talent, so that it could make sense that one in a hundred thousand achievers who can be professors at major research institutions will mostly be men.
True. Not to mention Shikha's lousy journolism skill.
This. Seriously bothers me that this statement gets tossed around as the grand proof, when that speech was extremely factual and posed not as "ha ha, dudes rule". You can't just pretend this stuff away if you want to talk about why women aren't equally represented in maths and science.
Maybe he couldn't find enough incompetent women?
He should have hired some of the ones complaining. I have a good feeling they're useless at pretty much any worthwhile activity.
Perhaps a few binders full of women would have helped.
I don't care about 'female advancement' because I meet such issues with total apathy. My criteria has always been "can the person do the job properly?" This is, however, apparently the wrong mindset for a civil servant and an "equal opportunity employment" agency.
What's a wash exam? Is that some kind of weird libertarian hygienic joke? No wonder there's no women around.
They shouldn't cut him any slack. The Democrats are the party of nose counting and fake diversity. Make them live by their own standards. If Obama's cabinet has few women, it is to be assumed it is because he is sexist, period. That is the standard the Dems apply to everyone else. That is the standard that should apply to them.
Shika needs to go back to writing about immigration.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!
Exactly, they created the game, and they can play it by the rules they set.
Actually, I like the break from shilling for the illegals.
I'll bet OGL has a binder full of women, just like Spitzer and the San Diego Mayor, the Kennedys, etc.
Why do people talk about Summers' "misogyny" when they could be talking about the awesome returns he generated on the Harvard endowment?
And that disaster is a little more relevant to his new proposed job.
Christina Romer, former head of the Council of Economic Advisers, once complained that he made her feel like "a piece of meat" during meetings.
If motherfucking Christina Romer thinks that any man in America looks at her as a piece of meat, she really needs to get therapy. Immediately.
If I was that delusional I'd think I was Napoleon.
Or maybe she means a literal piece of meat - like a side of beef, or something. Because she does in fact look like something hanging in a slaughterhouse. In fact, they were lucky that meetings weren't disrupted by Rocky Balboa bursting in to toughen up by punching Romer over and over.
If Christina Romer and Peter Orzag had a kid, he'd look like Bok's rendition of Putin in the Friday Funny.
"That's Grade A top choice meat!"
Summers said that the reason there were fewer women in engineering and science had to do with "a different availability of aptitude at the high end".
You can't say something like in a conference as the president of Harvard and not expect to suffer the wrath of feminists... He was chased out of Harvard for that (among other things), and why should being part of the Messiah Administration be less exclusive than Harvard?
This is why I hope Obama appoints Summers as Fed chair. Yeah, it's gotten to the point that almost anything Obama does to alienate his erstwhile support is seen as a good thing by me.
And Summers is a lot better than what we might end up getting from Obama anyway.
And Summers is a lot better than what we might end up getting from Obama anyway.
He can always go for the ultimate Hail Mary, and nominate Senator Warren.
Oh Jesus, no!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Just a smokescreen. Obama won't nominate summers for this job. I am giving 19-1 odds. Any takers?
Seriously -- anyone?!? Hello? no bets?
opportunity to make history by naming, Janet Yellen to head the Fed
Are males better at punctuation?
feminists will take it as final proof that Obama doesn't care about female advancement.
No they won't. Just as they never took anything as final proof that serial rapist/sexual harasser/philanderer Clinton was anything other than a champion of da wimmenz.
Live by identity politics, DIE by identity politics.
Fuck him... let him run serpentine while the feminists snipe... I'll sit and laugh.
Every time I see mention of Larry Summers I think of the one from FEE and get my hopes up.
