So Michelle Bachman, Steve King, and Louis Gohmert Walk into a Bar EGYPT…
Republicans Reps. Michelle Bachman, Steve King, and Louis Gohmert visited Egypt over the weekend and recorded this odd 15-minute (on the dot!) video extolling the current government for overthrowing the government of Mohammed Morsi. It's weird, wild stuff, especially when Gohmert starts talking about the law is "king"—except of course when you don't like the law.
As for General Sisi and Egypt's military leaders, Mr. Gohmert said they reminded him of Thomas Jefferson's declaration of "eternal hostility to every form of tyranny over the minds of men."
"Stand strong, Egypt," he said. "Stand firm."

This video can only add to the confusion that most people (including those of us in the U.S.) must have when looking at American policy toward the Middle East.
We back Mubarak for 30+ years, drag our feet when he's going down, and then jump on the Arab Spring bandwagon. Until we don't like Morsi anymore (even still, vast majorities of Egyptians think U.S. support for Morsi was a bad thing). Years back, we made piece with Qadafi until we joined in a NATO strike to send him packing. We called Bashar al-Assad a "reformer" even after his troops starting firing on unarmed demonstrators in 2011; now his a thug and a "murderer."
Which tells you exactly nothing about how America might act.
Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of reset button going on somewhere?

You misspelled “moron”.
“A laughable attempt to take advantage of the Holmesian’s desire for new adventures. Giant Rat indeed…must be a reference to the author. Please..Please…Please..don’t waste your money. Fortunately I borrowed a copy from the Library. After two chapters I started skimming and finally threw the book aside in disgust.”
If you’re just going to repeat what I say, what is the point of commenting?
Not only that, but so many words!
Brevity wit etc…
I love those Amazon reviews. Every once in a while, when I’m feeling a bit blue or down, I read those reviews, and somehow my day just brightens back up.
I wanted to share it with all of you.
Yeah, when Tony or shriek are feeling a bit blue or down, they read your posts and somehow their day just brightens.
and “anal”.
I keep asking them to
STOP SPELLING MY NAME WRONG!
Who the fuck is Alan Vanneman? I just googled him and found some terrible Sherlock Holmes books he apparently wrote.
He is a moronic “critic” and an inexplicable friend of Gillespie’s. He occasionally comments here, and his comments are blitheringly idiotic, so it’s usually amusing. And by amusing I mean what’s amusing is us mocking him after he comments.
What is most annoying about Vennemen is that not only are his comments idiotic, he always runs away and never defends them. He just drops some turn on a thread never to return like somehow we should be lucky he gave us his wisdom. He is the worst commenter on here. Worse than shreek.
The fact that the Jacket likes him is one of the many reasons I hold the Jacket in very low regard.
So Gillespie is friends with a terrible Sherlock Holmes writer and Welch is friends with Steve Smith.
I think we need to hold some kind of intervention.
Or that the Muslim Brotherhood was anything but scum. I recall a certain Libertarian publication that shall remain named that manged to convince itself the MB wasn’t really all that bad.
We did “reset.” From a foreign policy that was mildly annoying and stupid to completely batshit crazy.
Until we don’t like Morsi anymore (even still, vast majorities of Egyptians think U.S. support for Morsi was a bad thing
Sure they do. That would be because our idiot President jumped on the MB bandwagon as Morsi was turning the place into an Islamic hell hole. A few months of backing did more damage to our image in Egypt than 30+ years of backing Mubarak.
ALAN VANNEMAN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!??!?! HOLY SHIT I LOVE ALAN VANNEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!
Quit misspelling Anal, Warty.
In Warty’s basement, anal misspells Warty!
In Warty’s basement, anal is spelled W-A-R-T-Y
I love it when you go all Wesley Snipes on the comment thread!
Always bet on Warty
Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.
Vanneman is Warty’s ‘Gimp’?
Wait, so Vanneman is Warty?
Sorry, Epi not Warty. Apparently I need a second cup of coffee today.
Unless is fried itself like all copies of River City Ransom
The military has been running Egypt for decades anyway and are less trouble for us and the civilized world than the Muslim Brotherhood would be.
So who cares?
And perhaps the Egyptians figure military oppression is preferable to dying a a war with Israel that a bunch of crazy fucks in the Brotherhood want to start or at the very least starving after said crazy fucks kill off the tourism industry.
That reminded me of that article I read about one MB politician talking about destroying the pyramids because they were made by polytheists.
It’ll be The Dead Zone come to life.
I can’t imagine being so out of touch with reality that you can be Peter King and think you can win the Presidency.
He was totally in charge of the alternate universe on Fringe. I’m sure he thinks he can do it here too.
“The missiles are flying. Hallelujah, Hallelujah!”
The Republican Establishment is busily committing suicide. They are every bit as detached from reality as the Dems. But unlike the Dems they don’t have cult like followers. The Dem establishment can do whatever it wants and their cult will still vote for them. The R establishment apparently didn’t get the memo that they don’t have a cult and will just be left without voters. Or maybe they think they don’t need voters.
But unlike the Dems they don’t have cult like followers.
Oh I beg to differ…….
Yeah, the Republican establishment has a ton of followers. Tons of them. They are just wildly popular.
Have you thought about a position on the Peter King for President campaign? You seem to be just kind of guy they are looking for.
You seem to be just kind of guy they are looking for.
No need to get bitchy John…..TEAM RED maintains their own cult of empty heads and you know it.
The cult seems have have turned on its leaders. I know the narrative is that every side not named Libertarian is exactly the same. But sometimes the facts just won’t fit the narrative.
In 2016 some loser with an “R” appended to his name will receive 32% percent of the vote regardless of any stated position as long as he is twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom. You can count on it!
fish, read Sowell’s Intellectuals and Society and I think you’ll understand what John is saying.
But you are partially right; Team Red has its theocrats and Big Brother types who share the cult-like Utopian vision nearly all of Team Blue, but a far bigger chunk of Team Red is of the Tragic Vision variety.
The 32% voting for Team Red might simply do so because they hate Team Blue.
Have you thought about a position on the Peter King for President campaign?
“Who died and made you *president*?”
it will apparently come as news to you, but of the two parties, the GOP seems to be the one with two somewhat defined wings. The Dems remain the Borg.
A clue as to what might be worth watching is the GOP wing that both mainstream Repubs AND all Dems whine about. When the establishment of both parties is watching you and calling you dangerous, you may onto something.
I agree with John. A good portion of the Republican base is disgusted with the party. They’ll still vote Republican because they aren’t about to switch to the Democrats, but Mitt Romney basically lost the presidential election because his base was so disillusioned that they didn’t show up. If Romney’s base turns out at the numbers that they would have if they weren’t so pissed, he very well could have won.
The R establishment apparently didn’t get the memo that they don’t have a cult and will just be left without voters.
Yet they continue to cater to the Fundamentalists with God, gays and guns.
Really? Last I looked the SOCONS hated people like Graham and the various R establishment. And the Washington Republicans hated them back.
The SOCONS own the Republican Party. That is why John McCain and a Mormon were the last two nominees.
Every election cycle the Republicans always go back to the Fundamental basics.
Back to the basics and nominate people the SOCONS hate? That really is a total myth. It is the Dems who fight the culture war. Romeney never said shit about the culture war. It wasn’t Romney who paraded Sandra Fluke around the Capital and talked about the war on womenz!!
The Democrats are the culture warriors. They have nothing else. Their whole election strategy is to be the agressor in the culture war, blame it on the Republicans and get people to vote on something, anything, but their actual performance in office.
In short, Romney didn’t run on repealing Roe v. Wade or banning gay sex. But the Democrats sure as hell ran on the bullshit notion that he planned to do that.
My brother has a friend whose 20 something son is quite conservative. And he (the son) said his 20 something friends were all voting for Obama because Romney was going to make abortion illegal. Cause, you know, the president can just do that.
There are contests other than just the president.
And the Dems run on the culture war in those too. See the Virginia governor’s race where they have latched on to some idiotic statement the R made about using sodomy laws against sex offenders. The R is a tone def moron. But, he isn’t going to start prosecuting people for consensual sodomy no matter how badly he wants to. But better to vote on that issue than the fact that the D is a fucking crook who has never made an honest dollar in his life.
Please, Romney was the most moderate republican nominee in almost 40 years, and he didn’t pander to anyone. He barely even wanted to win the election at all.
Wait. What’s wrong with guns?
In related but other news, I know we’ll get some real American leadership we can be proud of when Peter King is sworn is as the next President of these United States of America.
Didn’t TEAM BLUE (northern division) already try running a flabby, lisping New York authoritarian for Prez?
King is going to go for the votes of people who think Tubo is just not quite Washington enough.
Tubo?
Another one of your famous typos or did I miss something?
I don’t even think TUBBO is a word. It is a colloquialism. So if you prefer it to have two “Bs” then fine. But I don’t think there is one proper way to spell it.
I’m not trying to be a dick….today!
I just didn’t know if we were discussing the same guy……or Tubo…if you prefer!
This is how we can tell it’s the Real John and not a troll trying to immitate John. John’s misspellings are so creative and…wonderful…that no wai! can a troll get it down.
/Sisstein Chappel
How about we call him Chubs or Fatso. Those are easy enough to spell.
You know who else thought they were running for president three years before the primaries?
Anthony Weiner?
Anthony’s Weiner?
Martin Sheen?
For all the comments I’ve seen about how the US “did nothing” to prop up Mubarak, it’s not at all clear to me what we could have done. It’s not like we were going to send in troops to break up demonstrations for him. Had we paid lip service to what a good friend he was, we would only have been doubling down on the loss when he was finally deposed, and given some sound bites to be exploited by his opposition trying to paint him as a US puppet. Had we vowed to pull aid if the new regime wasn’t to our liking, again that would have just encouraged nationalists and Islamists to be contrary.
So I support the decision to “do nothing” while Mubarak fell, though I do think we gave Morsi too much of a blank check once he was in. The mere fact of popular support for a government shouldn’t earn our praise — It’s what the government stands for. For the same reason, I’d favor a wait-and-see stance toward the current regime.
We didn’t prop up Mubarak. We stood aside while he fell. We did, however shoot our mouths off about Democracy and elections and how the MB winning such made them the legitimate rulers and managed to piss off pretty much everyone in Egypt who didn’t already hate us.
The mere fact of popular support for a government shouldn’t earn our praise
You know who else was elected with popular support…
Barack Hussein Obama
mmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmm!
I have a suggestion. A friend pointed out that Abraham Lincoln brigades are illegal. I think Paul and Amash should sponsor a “fight your conscience” amendment, that offers a third way between bombing the fuck out random countries and “doing nothing”. The essence of the amendment would be that as long as you aren’t taking part in hostilites directed against the US or our allies-by-treaty (NATO for example), and have not been convicted of war crimes related to such hostilites, the US will not seek to punish you, revoke your citizenship, or hamper your movements through our territories.
I am not sure allowing US citizens to go out and work directly to overthrow other governments would work out to well. If they so much as pick up the phone and raise money in the US, the US is on the hook to stop them or is considered to have committed an act of war.
that explains what Ray LaHood’s son was doing in Egypt when he and others found themselves unable to leave. You know better than to believe the US is not working to undermine, if not overthrow, some regimes.
Overthrowing other country’s government is an act of war.
Oh, come on – not if they’re REALLY bad guys and we’re doing it for All The Right Reasons?, right?
No one ever said there were not good reasons to go to war. But we should at least call it what it is.
Well if we hadn’t leaned so hard on the Swiss to give us all that bank info, this wouldn’t be a problem.
*** rising intonation ***
What about Dennis Rodman?
Presidential pardon.
It worked out well when Sam Houston did it.
Not so well for Aaron Burr.
I could go for that, so long as there’s a clause, ‘don’t come crying to an American embassy if you get caught and thrown in prison by the government you are trying to over throw. Take your butt rape like T E Lawrence.
That is just it. We are not tough enough to do that anymore. Back in the day, no one would have given a shit had the Fascists slaughtered the Lincoln Brigade. Now, such an incident would no doubt kill some important someone’s special snowflake and we would be sending in the Marines.
Sorry, we are just not responsible enough to do this.
Oh yes. You explicitly forego all State and Federal intervention with foreign powers from the moment you touch down in the disputed area until you’ve been back in the US for 365 consecutive days.
They would never enforce that. Remember when they leftist idiot got caught up with the Shinning Path down in Peru? Sure enough her rick parents got the US to lean on Peru enough to send her home before she died the horrible death in prison she deserved.
You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,
You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it’s all about.
This explains a lot
Just for future reference, if you are ever at a nudist wedding, the hokey pokey is a whole different thing, trust me on that.
U.S.
George Zimmerman in Custody After Gun Incident”Dude can’t stay out of the news
Oh well. Even he had gone on to cure cancer, that would not have affected my opinion of his case. But sadly, the fascist wing of our society will use this as proof that he hunted Trayvon like a wild animal.
I wasn’t aware the neonazis were on Trayvon’s side.
Sf’d the link, but didn’t the wife just file for divorce? I’m… strongly suspect of this news.
Yep. Wife of seven years filed for divorce a couple days ago. Said the trial destroyed their marriage.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/georg…..d=20203329
“Was his wife wearing a hoodie?”
Pussy-ass ABC deleted that comment.
Epic.
Way to NutraSweet the link, jesse. And to think I thought you weren’t as vile and awful as him.
Someday you’ll learn not to underestimate my vileness.
If he was smart, he would have changed his name and moved somewhere far, far away. He also would have made a point of avoiding potentially violent situations after failing so spectacularly at it once. So I think we have our answer about his intelligence.
He answered that when he called 911, before even that when he got involved in Neighborhood Watch.
Of course he had a gun. You don’t expect him to stalk his prey unarmed, do you?

RIP Trayvon Martin.
That might be appropriate, as he sure as hell wasn’t looking for any while alive.

I’ll donate a carton of smokes to the first black man who shanks him in prison.
Glad to see Trayvon’s supporters eschewing racial violence.
Supporters? They don’t give a fuck about Trayvon. Trayvon provided them with an excuse to hate, a person to hate, and a situation that allows them to hate without being called out for it.
TEAM OUTRAGE could be renamed TEAM HATERADE and it would be the same thing.
We’re at a crises point. It might be time for the Nebari to step in and give us the answer for a true lasting peace:
Varla: The treatment will help you by removing all negative impulses. Tell him D’Argo.
D’Argo: (he stands with his hands pressed prayerfully together in front of him, His eyes glisten and he has trouble speaking, being close to tears, so overwhelmed is her by his rebirth in the Nebari mind-cleansing machine) Um – it’s true John. All the things I’ve done as a warrior – all the horrible thoughts I’ve had all the cycles of my life – even about you – I am so sorry! (he toddles towards John, overcome by emotion, as if he wants to hug him)
John: (quickly, as he sits there with his eyeballs almost hanging out of his head) That’s okay D’Argo. We’ll talk later.
D’Argo: (his voice is high-pitched as he chokes back a loving sob) Okay! (he retreats)
“Vitamins will it be, then?”
“Something like that.”

WHY DOES HE HAVE TO BLACK!??
They are getting divorced. I’m sure there is no incentive for the wife or the wife’s attorney to make Zimmerman out to be a psycho while they are proceeding with the divorce. Divorce attorneys are the absolute paragon of honesty.
It’s beginning to look like two violent men met on a dark night and one of them died.
Not sure how this case contradicts all of the forensic and eye witness evidence backing up Zimmerman’s account of the night he killed Trayvon Martin, but I’m sure liberals will get around to explaining it to me.
These politicians have a combined IQ of 54. It’s not their fault.
“The trust’s intended major gift to fund the program was linked to a significant capital market event, which put considerable time pressure on efforts to structure the gift and the proposed scholarship program. In the end, the parties determined that it was not possible to finalize these matters and get the required approvals from both sides in the time available.”
Would someone *kindly* translate this into non-CFOBS?
The gift announced in July was made up of stock in Universal Computer Systems Holding Inc. from the A. Eugene Brockman Charitable Trust, according to the college in Danville, Kentucky. It would have been one of the biggest donations in the history of U.S. higher education.
The IPO crashed and burned?
The donor blew the money on some kind of asset that crashed. My bet is he put on green technology or some other feel good bullshit.
Had Rich’s lottery ticket number been chosen, It would have been one of the biggest donations in the history of U.S. higher education.
FTFV: “I’m a member of the United States Congress from the United States of America”
OK, I’ve heard enough.
We called Bashar al-Assad a “reformer” even after his troops starting firing on unarmed demonstrators in 2011; now his a thug and a “murderer.”
I thought to many reasonoids Assad is still a reformer?
Also why is Reason so quick to distance itself from the interwar “isolationists” and not point out that the term itself was a smear?
“I thought to many reasonoids Assad is still a reformer?”
Which reasonoids were that?
You really need to get some new material Gladstone. The one trick pony act is getting old
Rand Paul spoke of how Assad’s overthrow would be bad for Syria’s Christians. Would reasonoids have been appreciative if someone said that Mubarak’s overthrow would be bad for the Copts?
Doesn’t this (and other similar trips) violate the Logan Act?
Just checked Wikipedia, and saw this:
So basically Reason is against the Revolutionary War? Because it was a coup against the legal government set up by England?
Morsi was turning Egypt into Iran. The Egyptian people didn’t like it. Have you forgotten all the protests? It’s not like the military did it all on their own…
