Amash Tells Lawmakers Who Support Syria Intervention They "Might as Well Start Cleaning Out" Their Office

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.), who has hosted numerous town hall meetings this week to discuss possible military intervention in Syria, has a message for his colleagues who are planning to support a military strike against the Assad regime.
From MLive:
GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Federal lawmakers who plan to vote in favor of a U.S. military strike against Syria "might as well start cleaning out" their office, U.S. Rep. Justin Amash said Thursday.
Amash, R-Cascade Township, tweeted that the "unprecedented level of public opposition" to military intervention in the country should beg for dissenting votes.
"If you're voting yes on military action in #Syria, might as well start cleaning out your office," Amash tweeted Thursday afternoon. "Unprecedented level of public opposition."

I truly hope there is massive turnover in the House and Senate. Truth be told, I'm not going to hold my breath.
If only.
This just means that those who support the war are Courageous Dissenters who are Showing Leadership, just like FDR in WWII!
"Oh, God we're such heroic martyrs to justice, fap fap fap fap fap"
Sir Humphrey: If you want to be really sure that the Minister doesn't accept it, you must say the decision is "courageous".
Bernard: And that's worse than "controversial"?
Sir Humphrey: Oh, yes! "Controversial" only means "this will lose you votes". "Courageous" means "this will lose you the election"!
I love it. Even if he is full of crap, fear is what most of these leeches understand.
I like the no compromise language here compared to the earlier statement thanking the president. This forces those who support it onto the defensive if they do anything but outright ignore what he said which given the mood of the country would be a stupid tact on their part.
They just can't see the light until they feel the heat!
Myth of the rational voter. Hopefully tho, anyone who votes for this is out on their can looking for a real job.
, anyone who votes for this is out on their can looking for a real job.
Running a non-profit agitating the government to pass a tax or a law banning something-or-other?
I love this fucking guy.
He makes a good point. If you vote for this, your political future now rests with Obama's ability to do this war quickly, competently and without any complications such that it is over and out of the public consciousness before the midterms. Good luck with that.
You assume the people have memories.
Amash is firing people now? Boehner has lost all control.
He has. No one cares what the leadership says anymore. They are so out of touch there is no price to be paid for ignoring them. It is a very good thing.
My fear is Amash is only correct about Democrats. Outside of leftist pundits, the gen-pop is still expressing the same distaste for war as was shown 8 years ago and that gen-pop includes the same Dem voters.
So the war-boner Democrats may have to face a challenge. But the existing war-boner GOP will probably get just about the same support as always. What matters is what the war-boner Dems will be replaced with, and it could be either further-left Dems or RINOs.
"But the existing war-boner GOP will probably get just about the same support as always."
Not so sure about that, if RW media's coverage of the rebels is any indication.
Yeah, it seems to actually be somewhat more against the war than leftwing media. A LOT more if you include most of the MSM outlets; about the only major right-wing outlet I can think of that's cheerleading it is Fox News.
That is why I am dismissing punditry completely. Left or right, they are just playing the "TEAM!!" game.
Pundits are structurally out of touch with the gen-pop, even when the pundits typically team-first game accidentally matches the support of the gen pop.
If you haven't "liked" Amash's Facebook page, I strongly suggest you do. He explains every vote he makes. He is the definition of principled.
...because they're about to get cushy appointments in the Obama White House.
There was massive public opposition to the TARP bailouts too. Then the public reelected 95 percent of Congress, as usual.
There was that whole "Tea Party" thing.
It's simple. The media and bipartisan Roosevelt Republican/Roosevelt Democrat bipartisan consensus that controls congress and the White House has decided that elections will no longer be conducted on the basis of actual issues. Where a politician stands on the issues of actual importance have ceased to matter. (To fair, the Serious consensus can't have actual issues come up, there isn't any difference between it's two heads with regards to them.) People will vote on which candidate they'd rather have a beer with, or would rather have as a father, and these superficial differences are the only ones that the "Serious" media is allowed to discuss. By the next election, no one will remember the war in Syria. A hundred other superficial issues will have come up. (Some stupid Republican will have made a stupid comment about rape, or a hundred other silly things that will dominate a few weeks of news cycle)
