US scientists found that even small changes in temperature or rainfall correlated with a rise in assaults, rapes and murders, as well as group conflicts and war.

The team says with the current projected levels of climate change, the world is likely to become a more violent place.

The study is published in Science.

Marshall Burke, from the University of California, Berkeley, said: "This is a relationship we observe across time and across all major continents around the world. The relationship we find between these climate variables and conflict outcomes are often very large."

The researchers looked at 60 studies from around the world, with data spanning hundreds of years.

They report a "substantial" correlation between climate and conflict.

Their examples include an increase in domestic violence in India during recent droughts, and a spike in assaults, rapes and murders during heatwaves in the US.

Again, I don't believe in a central bank, but in every previous system without a central bank consumers have chosen to use banks which loan out a percentage of their deposits. How is this not loaning out real savings when it is money that does actually exist?

Without a central bank they can't lend out more than their reserves otherwise any bank doing that will get hit with clearing debits they will be unable to pay. The Rothbardian explanation on this is the real "fraud".

The problems in the late 1800s in the US were because of the ban on branch banking and bad regulations which required banks to hold $1.10 of Treasuries for ever $1 note they issued.
During the same period Canada did not have these regulations and their system did not suffer like ours did.

One thing I forgot in my reply in that other thread was that the 100%ers are advocating for a bad business model based on a too narrow definition of what constitutes backing.

Yes, it is a fractional-gold reserve system but it is a 100% asset backed system in that loans are backed by collateral, note issue is backed by a portfolio of easy-to-liquidate securities and in an unlimited liability system the personal wealth of the shareholders. Plus whatever small percentage of gold is in the bank.

The Salernoites want a bank to forgo the interest paid on the backing securities and pay to store a load of gold (that earns no interest), and have people deal with all the logistical issues that a gold coin standard has.

I've been critical of Bloomberg for his stance on the New York Police Department's controversial stop-and-frisk program (he's for it), so it's only fair that I commend him here. The stop-and-frisk program is, at its core, a gun removal program, with the goal being to stop "suspicious" people on the chance they might be packing heat. But stop-and-frisk is ineffective, invasive, and quite possibly unconstitutional; the NYPD needs a better strategy for getting illegal guns off the streets. The gun numbers Bloomberg cited are legitimate, and he and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly have to try something to get them down. Why not give shaming Virginia a shot?

I have spent this Valentine's Day season wrapped in the loving embrace of feminist friends and family who have expressed their care and affection through thoughtful cards, shared meals, and copious amounts of cocktails. I have been reminded numerous times how bootleg a holiday is that celebrates heterosexual coupledom at the expense of all other kinds of love, and I have felt blessed to be reminded of all the other kinds of love and care I experience routinely.

But can I talk about how sometimes a sister just wants to get laid?

I mention this not because it goes against all that I laid out at the start of this post, but because, for me, the love I get from friendship and family has not coincided with anything approaching a vibrant sex life and, if I can keep it 100, that's not something I feel great about. Real talk, this year I have felt my lack of sexual intimacy more keenly than I have for a while. For a long time, I felt like I could go on forever being celibate, but now I'm not so sure.

It's been almost five years since I've dated, or kissed, or touched another person in a non- platonic way.

Sure. I've occasionally read through hater comments just to see if they had any points, and sometimes they did. But I was much more worried about, say, getting my skull splattered by a dodgeball in 7th grade than about what some online commenter says. I've got a job I love, he's an angry person writing comments about it. Not hard to see who needs who in that relationship.

As an economist, I love the full marginal cost pricing.
