Bloomberg Vetoes NYPD Oversight Bills

He loves his cops

NEW YORK—Mayor Michael Bloomberg has vetoed two key bills aimed at providing oversight of the NYPD following a long battle against stop-and-frisk.

The pieces of legislation are together called the Community Safety Act. One would have created an independent inspector general for the police department, and is similar to a position seen in other major cities across the country.

The bills would also create a more generous path for people to bring lawsuits against the NYPD if they feel they are discriminated against.
