Jim Carrey's New Movie Is Too Violent for Jim Carrey
Because Sandy Hook.
Jim Carrey has shocked producers of forthcoming comic-book sequel Kick-Ass 2, in which he stars as a baseball-bat-wielding masked crimefighter, after denouncing the "level of violence" that permeates the film in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings.
Carrey, who has been an outspoken proponent of increased gun control in the wake of the shootings by gunman Adam Lanza in December, tweeted on Sunday that he could no longer support the film. He wrote: "I did Kick-Ass 2 a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to others involve[d] with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart."
I have no special insight into what has happened inside Jim Carrey's head, but this should serve as a lesson to those activists who think the best way to argue against new gun regulations is to blame the media for violence instead. Turns out it's possible to blame both.

More proof that peak derp can never be reached.
I'm guessing he since he cocked off about guns earlier and got called on his hypocrisy, he's doing this to try to save face. I'm sure the film's producers welcome his returning his pay, though.
That's exactly what it is. My guess is the hypocracy accusitions had probably already started so he was looking to cut them off. I thought tge original "Kick Ass" was entertaining.
I have no idea what they expect him to bring to a franchise that worked well the first time around. He is no Nicholas Cage.
And that ugly ass face. That chin is a breech of the public peace. If he and Leno ever embraced it would be like watching a fight between a hammer and a chisel.
Did he not watch the first one before signing up?
Did he cash the paycheck?
I'm pretty sure he cashed the check.
So his self-flaggelation over this movie is kind of lame.
Also, who listens to Jim Carrey? Really, who, in the whole galactic cluster, gets their policy and cultural insights from Jim Carrey? I want their fucking names.
I find it hard to believe he gets paid for his "talents."
This is a guy who is famous for literally talking out of his ass.
Jim Carrey has made some interesting movies. There are some serious themes explored in the Truman Show, Bruce Almighty and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, that elevate those films above alot of the formula stuff that Hollywood cranks out. I really like some of Carrey's movies.
That said, though, Carrey is an idiot.
Acting ability doesn't seem to correlate very highly with sensible political opinions.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is very well done. Jim Carrey is great in that one.
Now if only he would realize that vaccines are a good idea.
I challenge the premise that it is Carrey that made those good films.
Steve Carrel would have been better in Truman (able to bring a sense of disorientation without the mugging) and just about decent actor anyone could have done well with the Sunshine script.
Not to be a big defender of Carrey, but years ago in his Playboy interview, he came across as thoughtful and even a little spiritual, which seems consistent with themes like...what if you had God's power...what if you could reset your memories. So I was a bit of a fan, and I think those movies are at least decent entertainment.
None of which excuses him using his fame to promote crackpot politics.
Why keep working when you have so much money you don't give a shit any more?
Blame Canada.
Operation Leaf Blower!
Shame he and Jenny McCarthy didn't stay together. They had already reached peak self-absorption/stupidity. The dictionary should have his picture as the definition of hypocrite.
When is he going to apologize for all the children his idiot ex Jenny McCarthy killed with her anti-vaccine campaign?
Is she still on that or has she finally given it up and repented?
I don't know, but I never saw anything about her repenting.
He's every bit as honest and sincere as Michael Moore claiming that the $2 million vacation house on Torch Lake isn't his.
Nice alt-text. Hope the producers sue him.
I don't even want to hear about his politics...ever. The Cable Guy was fucking hilarious, but this kind of shit will make me leave it on the shelf of my video collection unwatched from this moment forward.
Wait, he probably doesn't get residuals. Fuck it, I'll watch it for Matthew Broderick and George Segal.
I just pirate stuff from entertainers I enjoy but have retarded political opinions. With the ones who hate the free market I feel like I'm actually doing them a favor.
I bet that girl who plays Hit Girl is still adorable. She made the first movie with her "cunts" line.*
*Apologies to Ken Shultz.
I hope she doesn't grow into one of those insufferable child stars.
She seems pretty squared away. In interviews she even avoids saying the name of the film because she doesn't want to say "ass."
She was a more believable action hero at 11 than, say, Ben Affleck ever was.
Gigli was an action movie???
He was referring to Good Will Hunting II: Hunting Season. Also starring Matt Damon.
Excuse me, I meant MATT DAMON!!!
The Banana Splits scene from the first movie is one of my favorites. Perfect use of the song.
I'm glad I don't let the politics of actors and actresses get in the way of my choices in entertainment, or I would be left with close to nothing.
That's nice.
The first one was great. I would hire Hit Girl as my personal body guard if she were real and I had money. And if anyone cuts me off in traffic, I'd send her to deal with them.
But come on... Nicolas Cage made the first one!
"Yeah, good at getting his ass kicked. His name should be Ass Kick instead."
Time to ban sneakers:
robber shot by customer
Good thing the shooter wasn't a white Hispanic, so we don't have to witness the Hollyweird freaks running around in hoodies cursing white devils, again.
The Yahoo! article was great
No bias here at all
Yeah... the Yahoo! article calls him a 'pickpocket'. Definitely no bias. Instead of being a robber, which usually employs violence, he's now a 'pickpocket', which employs deftness.
I thought the opening was nice too...
The thought of free choice just terrifies these little shit-weasels.
He even looks like a shit weasel.
Also pretty funny coming from a guy who makes his living writing about grown men who make millions for bouncing a ball around in a small area and throwing it through a mounted hoop.
"Needlessly" is in the eye of the beholder.
But does anyone really "need" $180 sneakers?
But does anyone really "need" a $180 billion sneakers NBA contract?
er, million would suffice,though.
I thought you were kidding with that sentence until I clicked the link and had forever my faith in human decency revoked.
Saw the story on WSB. The concealed permit holder wasn't charged and stayed in line to buy the shoes.
Jim Carrey is a menadacious little shitweasel, but a perfect example of why Progressivism is not a political movement, but a secular variation of postmilleniallism. To Carrey and his ilk, gun owners (who he has said have no souls and aren't worth protecting) are not merely people who hold different opinions, they are heretics, unrepentant sinners who stand in the way of improving people's faith and morals, which in turn will usher in a thousand years of peace before the coming of Jesus (or in their case, the all-powerful government).
"...unrepentant sinners who stand in the way of improving people's faith and morals"
Kind of ironic considering Carrey and his bimbo wife have been standing in the way of improving people's health through vaccines.
Sandy Hook: bad.
Droning: A-OK!!!
If I made a movie I would pay my star actors extra to "apologize" to the public - "I am very sorry to be part of a movie with so much unnecessary sex and violence - but don't take my word for it, watch it yourself and see how much I have to apologize for!"
I didn't know he was still making movies.
So, he'll be donating his entire paycheck from this movie to an anti-violence group? No?
Okay, then. If he's not serious about then neither am I.
"I have no special insight into what has happened inside Jim Carrey's head"
Couldn't have anything to do with a viral youtube video exposing what a hypocrite he is.
I've read Kick-Ass 2. Unless they deviated from the comic significantly, there aren't any scenes where a fucked up loser kills a bunch of little kids with guns he stole from his mother.
Unless Carrey thinks all gun-related incidents are functionally equivalent, like Slate does.
Oh, shut up you fucking baby. Jim Carrey should be lucky they still pay his ass to make retarded faces and sounds. He's like an unfunny Canadian version of Jack Black, except A LOT more hateable. Fuck Jim Carrey.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
