  • Chicago's Board of Education is poised to vote today to close 53 schools, amid protests.
  • The Army has suspended the commanding general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina over allegations of adultery.

  • Damaged caused by the deadly tornado in Moore, Okla., may top $2 billion.
  • Due to the already significant struggles in passing immigration reform legislation, an effort to add protections for gay couples affected by immigration policies has been dropped.

my friend's step-aunt makes $84/hr on the laptop. She has been out of work for nine months but last month her income was $21727 just working on the laptop for a few hours. Go to this web site and read more..... http://WWW.DAZ7.COM

      1. StinkEye   12 years ago

Jonathan, jonathan, jonathan,, we've been through this already, you are lying... you never had a "step-aunt", let alone seen a whole $84 anywhere in your life, it's all in your mind. Make peace with it and move on. This sort of delusional lunacy is going to throw all your tedious therapy into retrograde...

I doubt this will stand up. In business, files are only legally confidential if certain steps are taken to keep them that way. One of them is to limit access.

        I'm guessing Rose Leslie.

NO! This is why we can't have nice things!

      2. Scotticus Finch   12 years ago

        From the article:

One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons...

        Doesn't sound like it's Rose.

        1. Fist of Etiquette   12 years ago

It's hard to get your kit off north of the wall. And when you're not in the storyline.

      3. Scruffy Nerfherder   12 years ago

Fans were kind of harsh about her 'too skinny' appearance.

sarc just died a little inside

      4. Nikki makes the sign of a tsp   12 years ago

Did she actually look thinner to you guys than any of the other naked women on the show? I didn't think so at all. Weird.

        1. Episiarch   12 years ago

No. I would suggest ignoring vague statements about "fans".

        2. Raston Bot   12 years ago

Yes. She was boney which is appropriate for the starvlings north of the wall. But then again Osha was really fit. Maybe she ate well during her short stay at the castle.

          1. Nikki makes the sign of a tsp   12 years ago

In the second book Bran does note that Osha has put on some weight, though she's still thinner and more angular than women south of the wall.

            1. Irish   12 years ago

Well you can't expect GRRM to go more than a page without commenting on some woman's figure, can you? He's got a very specific style.

            2. alittlesense   12 years ago

Trying very hard to come up with a joke about eating bran being good for you.....

        3. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

          Yes.

The telltale was that you could see each and every vertebrae and rib on her body.

            Give her 10 years.

            1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Gladly. But her being filled out 10 years from now doesn't change the fact that she is WAY too skinny now.

      5. The Immaculate Trouser   12 years ago

        Dammit.

    2. Francisco d Anconia   12 years ago

One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn't at all because she said, 'I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts.'

      Thank Christ its not Ygritte!

    3. MJGreen   12 years ago

Obviously Emilia Clarke. Whatever, we've already got the goods!

But seriously, given how popular she is on that show, it's laughable to think people 'know her' because of her nudity. She plays an iconic character who controls DRAGONS.

      1. Irish   12 years ago

Well...I also very much enjoy the nudity part. I'd say my appreciation of Emilia Clarke is 2 parts badass dragons, 1 part nudity.

      2. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

I wonder, however, given that she so beautifully displayed her tits in the latest episode.

        1. MJGreen   12 years ago

Oh, I thought it was referring to next season.

The only other explanation is the actress who played Ros, but I'd expect there to be the suggestion that they killed her off because she wouldn't show the bazongas. Which would be hilarious, though pretty shocking.

          1. Irish   12 years ago

There's no way it would be Ros. Her entire reason for existing was to provide exposition while periodically showing the tits.

There's no way she'd be dumb enough to refuse to do one of the two things she did on that show.

            1. MJGreen   12 years ago

Hence throwing her off as target practice.

As I recall, she wasn't exposed at all this season. But I also don't recall her really getting naked last year either.

              1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

She showed titties when she beat the fuck out of that other prostitute in season 2.

            2. Nikki makes the sign of a tsp   12 years ago

I feel like we haven't seen her naked, though, since she really became Littlefinger's right hand. Sounds like it could be her.

          2. Red Rocks Rockin   12 years ago

The only other explanation is the actress who played Ros, but I'd expect there to be the suggestion that they killed her off because she wouldn't show the bazongas.

Even if they hadn't killed off her character, my understanding is that she works as a burlesque dancer in real life so I doubt it would have been her anyway. Her tits are basically her moneymakers.

            1. Episiarch   12 years ago

Yeah, there's no way Esme Bianco is going to care about getting nude.

      3. Francisco d Anconia   12 years ago

Well she sure got neked on Sunday.

      4. Red Rocks Rockin   12 years ago

Yeah, it would have to be. The only other semi-regular who took her clothes off as much was Ros.

    4. Raston Bot   12 years ago

      It's Emilia Clarke.

...with one critic saying the excess of "random boobage" undercut any aspirations it might have to address the oppression of women in a feudal society.

Bullshit. One woman's a conquerer, another's a hunter, another a ship's captain. Another's a sorceress. Gimme a break. Is that critic even watching the same show?

      1. Juice   12 years ago

Obviously you can't address the oppression of women without portraying them as being oppressed.

        1. Raston Bot   12 years ago

Good point. Are there any oppressed women in that show? I see a bunch of entrepreneurs, psychopaths, and working middle-class women.

          1. Apatheist ?_??   12 years ago

            Craster's family.

            1. Raston Bot   12 years ago

That's a good call. They are chattel. But then Sam rescues Gilly and there's upward mobility if she ever makes it to Horn Hill.

              1. KPres   12 years ago

Yep, and Gilly had to show Sam how to make a fire cause women can't do anything right.

          2. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Are there any oppressed women in that show?

So I guess you don't think that being used as pawn and being married off at the will of a man is somehow oppressive? Because of all the marriages that have happened in the show, only 1 has been consensual.

            1. Archduke Pantsfan   12 years ago

              only 1 has been consensual.

And I'm not sure how much longer it will last.

              1. Virginian   12 years ago

Well historically there really aren't any consensual marriages among nobility. Ned and Cat had an arranged marriage. Tywin and his late wife had an arranged marriage.

The sons of nobility had their brides chosen for them, but they also got to go fight in wars, which mostly meant wondering if the enemy or the sickness would get you first.

              2. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

                Me neither.

If GoT has one deficiency, it's that the writers/directors/producers have no idea what subtlety means or how to use it when making television. They've been giving signs for at least 4 or 5 weeks that something is going to happen. I don't know whether that something will be that she is some kind of spy who's worked her way to the king's chamber, or whether she's simply gonna die somehow.

The so-called letter to her mother (written in a far off language that no one else within 1000 miles can read) suggested to me that she is an infiltrator writing back to her masters.

                But I don't know.

                1. Episiarch   12 years ago

But I do know. Because I read the books. She's gonna...

                  1. Virginian   12 years ago

Eh, we don't really know considering they changed the books on this one.

Actually, I'm getting somewhat concerned they're going to make a major divergence for some retarded reasoning.

                    1. Episiarch   12 years ago

They can't possibly not do the Red Wedding. I mean, that would be beyond retarded. Yeah, they changed the wife character, but...no.

            2. Raston Bot   12 years ago

The men are subjected to the same treatment. All (except for Rob) married for political treaties. And we all know how Rob's turned out.

              1. Virginian   12 years ago

The men are subjected to the same treatment. All (except for Rob) married for political treaties. And we all know how Rob's turned out.

Yeah it's crazy how many people don't get that. It's just casual sexism to look at the institution of arranged marriage and think it only sucks for women.

              2. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

The men are subjected to the same treatment.

Only 2 so far have been.

Tyrian and Rob's uncle (who, if you will recall, argued vociferously that the laws of god and men state that a MAN cannot be married against his will).

Men may not have absolute free choice on whom to marry, but they cannot be forced to marry except under coercive circumstances. The "Sword Swallower" (Knight of the Rose - I forget his character's actual name) is being coerced by Tywin. He has a choice, but with Tywin holding the "I will simply name him to the King's Guard if he refuses to marry Cerce" card trumps his will. Tyrian could always leave rather than marry Sansa, but 1) what's the point?, and 2) he would have to leave Westeros in order to do so, and a dwarf's fortune isn't very good unless you happen to be a very rich dwarf. He'd rather stay and marry Sansa against his will, do his family duty, and remain a very rich person than go to some other land with Shae where he would be a pauper. It's a bad choice, but still a choice.

Plus, the men have a lot more leeway to cheat. I don't think a ton of women get away with what Cersei does.

                  1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Plus, the men have a lot more leeway to cheat. I don't think a ton of women get away with what Cersei does.

                    Yes.

Robert Baratheon openly fucked dozens of whores in his chamber while Jamie Lannister stood outside.

                  2. Dr. Frankenstein   12 years ago

It happned more than you might think. They got marrried young and the unmarried were supposed to be virgins. That left the married women being the ones who could play around and they were expected to have children.

                    1. Nikki makes the sign of a tsp   12 years ago

That left the married women being the ones who could play around and they were expected to have children.

Yeah, that remained the norm until fairly recently. But still, if you get knocked up, you have to cover for it by still fucking your husband at the appropriate time, and your lover had better not look too different from him either.

Cersei didn't do either of those things, but her husband was really dumb.

            3. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Are there any oppressed women in that show?

Even if forced marriage isn't viewed as somehow oppressive, I'd say that women being forced to fuck their elderly father and give any male children to the white walkers as payment for being spared is pretty fucking oppressive.

      2. Apatheist ?_??   12 years ago

        It's Emilia Clarke.

"One of the girls in the show who got her kit off the most in the first couple of seasons now doesn't at all because she said, 'I want to be known for my acting not for my breasts.'?"

        She just did last episode.

        1. Red Rocks Rockin   12 years ago

Are they filming season four right now? If so, maybe that's what's being reported on.

          1. MJGreen   12 years ago

They'll start shooting soon. It would make sense that Oona meant that she was talking with the actress and it's been decided that the actress won't be playing nude from here on out.

            1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

The problem, if it is Emilia Clarke, is that though beautiful, her tits aren't anything by which I might remember her. Her ass, yes; but not her tits.

          2. Apatheist ?_??   12 years ago

Yeah, I guess it could be interpreted either way. Depends on whether "a couple" is 2 or 3 and whether "now" is now going forward or "now" already.

It would be disappointing, here scenes have been some of the least gratuitous.

            1. mad libertarian guy   12 years ago

Unless you count the very first episode of the series ending with her being raped from behind while her tits sling in the wind.

              1. Apatheist ?_??   12 years ago

In the book it wasn't so rapey but in any case:

It is in context important. She starts off as powerless and weak, being pawned off and now has reached the point where she uses her sexuality as power. Maybe nudity isn't necessary in either scene but I wouldn't say it is totally gratuitous.

Government built by leftists and conservatives fucks up. It's the libertarian's fault.

Of course, if the woman had a gun, she probably could have protected herself.

Wait. Wouldn't calling the police to attack the guy also be an escalation of violence?

Are they really arguing that it's only okay to be protected by government agents but never to protect yourself?

        1. Randian   12 years ago

YES. This why "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to call a good guy with a gun" drove them so crazy - because it was correct.

          1. CE   12 years ago

Yeah, and when the cops get there, they can collect the evidence for you, and open a case file to catch the guy later when he's arrested on a drug warrant.

      2. Nikki makes the sign of a tsp   12 years ago

A commenter gets ripped apart for suggesting that she get a gun. That would be "an escalation of violence".

I don't like to get all "as a woman" and shit, and men can be raped too regardless, so as a person I am made physically ill by the idea that if someone is raping or attempting to rape me, I shouldn't kill him or her myself, if my own conscience permits me to do so. That is incredibly vile.

        1. Irish   12 years ago

          It's also incredibly sexist.

'Women shouldn't protect themselves! They should wait for big strong men who have been trained by the patriarchal state to come and protect them!'

It reminds me of when feminists were literally telling women to piss themselves if they were about to be raped, in order to scare the man away. Call me old fashioned, but I've always felt that the only people who should be pissing themselves during an attempted rape is the rapist as he stares down a gun barrel.

          1. Smilin' Joe Fission   12 years ago

I fail to see how and escalation of violence is a bad thing. Aren't most of the rape self-defense classes tips on how to do as much bodily harm as possible and then get away? Why shouldn't that bodily harm be a bullet somewhere not near a vital organ? And if the guy goes to the doctor he's going to have to explain a gunshot wound.

        1. Scruffy Nerfherder   12 years ago

Aren't most of the rape self-defense classes tips on how to do as much bodily harm as possible and then get away?

          No guns, because that's icky-poo

          1. Geoff Nathan   12 years ago

Actually, most self-defense instructors say 'no guns' because it'll take too long to get it out of your purse, and it might get taken and used against you. Maybe not good arguments, but ones that are actually used.

I used to help with women's self-defense classes. Didn't agree with everything everyone said, but they were somewhat more rational than 'icky-poo'. They thought they were actually offering practical advice.

FWIW even worse things were said about Mace.

            1. Virginian   12 years ago

I've taught a couple ad hoc ones. I always open with the line, which I stole from somewhere else:

"First off, the fact is that the shittiest handgun in the world is ten times better then anything else you might use for self defense. Mace, pepper spray, knives, tasers, etc. are all better then bare hands. But a gun, and the skill to use it, is the best way to defend yourself."

One time I showed the clip of River from Firefly beating the shit out the whole bar. Then explained that that is a movie, and that real life is not like that.

Question: Are there even very many liberals that like Marcotte? Other than the absolute psychotics that are at Rawstory, everyone seems to hate her.

Most Slate articles that she writes even end up filled with anti-Marcotte trolls. And that's Slate, a place where her bizarre brand of leftist delusion should be welcomed.

Other than warlords and their armies, no one has guns in Somalia. Their per capita GDP is $114. The average Somalian doesn't have enough money to feed his family, much less buy a gun.

As President, he he has the least control over any of this of anyone. He's just so far removed from the decisionmaking process.

Wait, I'm sorry, I forgot: Barack is intimately involved in all of these discussions and assure us Top. Men. have totally vetted his Kill List and he asks really hard wuestions and stuff and makes sure all the collateral damage is justifiable.

Shame on Obama. As a constitution law professor I don't understand why his administration routinely puts forward bad legal arguments and sets bad precedents. I am fairly confident that he vets the kill list well and nobody can reasonably argue Awlaki didn't need to go, but to argue that due process doesn't mean due process is farcical and sets a terrible precedent. They could have easily tried him in absentia for treason and had a judge and jury sign off on the kill, at least keeping our constitutional rights in place.

The big problem isn't Obama, I voted for him and he was much better than the alternative both times, but could you imagine a presidential kill list with no judicial oversight in the hands of a president Romney, or god forbid a president bachmann, Palin or santorum? That should keep the american public awake at night.

      Thoughts?

    Beyond the Pale

Back in 1999 the main focus of the White Privilege Conference had been on race. Recently, though, the categories of victims of white supremacy have grown to include such overwhelmingly white groups as feminists and the "LGBT community"???or "LGBTQ community," "LGBTQQ community," and "LGBTQQIA community"???all acronyms used by White Privilege participants at various times (the two "Q's" stand for "queer" and "questioning," the "I" for "intersex," and the "A" for a conventionally heterosexual "ally" of all of the above). This year's conference also offered yoga classes "especially welcoming to people of size, queer people, and others who might not feel comfortable in conventional yoga classes." In addition, "gender-neutral" restrooms for those who "opt out of a gender binary system" (in the words of the WPC14 program) are a standard feature of every White Privilege Conference.

Kinsley openly characterizes progressive discourse about conservative opinions as an affront to free speech rights.

[...] after little more than a week he plucked up the courage to declare his sexual orientation to his commander. "They asked me if I had any photographs." Gokhan says, "And I did." He had gone prepared with explicit photographs of himself having sex with another man, having heard that it would be impossible to get out of military service without them. The face must be visible," says Gokhan. "And the photos must show you as the passive partner."

After seeing a discussion about HOA, I was wondering if it's possible to get out of one. This is hypothetical, I am not part of one. I know that typically your only option is to just not buy a home in a HOA neighborhood. However, I'm wondering if it would be possible to disband it. Can you have a vote on it and dissolve if you get enough neighbors to agree with you?

    2. Brandon   12 years ago

If you can prove your HOA board has violated its bylaws, you can get the HOA disbanded. At least in CO.

    3. Libertymike   12 years ago

First, look to the document that establishes the HOA. If it is comprehensively drafted, it should provide for dissolution of the HOA, including the requisite procedures which must be undertaken in order to properly entomb the sucker.

In many instances, a developer will create an HOA or authorize its creation, but will not set forth its rules and regulations, much less provide for its dissolution.

If there is no provision regarding dissolution, my guess is that the HOA could be dissolved by a vote sufficient to do so.

      1. Libertymike   12 years ago

You should not forget that lienholders, particularly banks holding mortgages, have an interest in whether and how the HOA may be dissolved.

Another potential complication: Current, on-going litigation involving the HOA or individual owners (if the suit touches, in any way, the individual owner's interest in the real estate).

The laboratory incorporated a green fluorescence protein into the genes of the sheep, which will glow when exposed to certain ultraviolet light, making the the ruminants easily identifiable as genetically modified.

Funny stuff. Very funny. Nothing quite like British sarcasm to elicit a good belly laugh.

The Army has suspended the commanding general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina over allegations of adultery.

Any my branch manager told me last week there were no openings there!

One witness, called James, told LBC radio: "We saw clearly two knives, meat cleavers, they were big kitchen knives like you would use in a butcher's, they were hacking at this poor guy, we thought they were trying to remove organs from him"
"These two guys were crazed, they were not there, they were just animals. They then dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road.
"They took 20 minutes to arrive, the police ? the armed response."
He added: "There was only a few people at first then traffic began to build up because people were getting out of their cars to shout at them they were taking no notice, they were standing there, I think they were proud of what they were doing.
"When they dumped the body in the road, these two black guys had the opportunity to hurt other people if they wanted to because there were brave women with the dead guy on the floor, they were shielding and covering him. The attackers with the knives were standing over these women.
"The guy with the gun, the tall guy with the beanie cap on, even a bus had pulled up ? he was going over to the bus and asking people to take his photo."

Brave? It sounds like they waited for the guys to finish cutting him up first and just yelled at the guys for several minutes.

"I believe I took Constitutional law, but I'm not prepared to take an exam at this time," Shulman said with a chuckle. "Meaning I'll answer any of your question but I can't promise that I'm an expert."

"Well, you know the First, Second Amendment and one of my favorites, the 19th, right? You know those?" Bentivolio asked.

"Excuse me," a seemingly confused Shulman responded.

"You know those amendments. The Constitutional amendments," Bentivolio said matter of factly. "You know the First, you know the Second, and you know the 19th."

"I don't necessarily have the Constitution memorized, sir."

"Ok, well, they're pretty general in what each one is. Like the First Amendment is the freedom of the press, freedom of religion, and freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. First Amendment, right?"

"I really can't recite the Constitution, sir," Shulman concluded.

I have worked with union who can quote, from memory, entire sections from their collective bargaining agreementz.

At a MINIMUM a Federal officer or employee who is sworn to uphold the Constitution should be able to discuss the specific authorization for their department a
Within the Constitution as well as the basic meaning of each Amendment, especially the first ten.

"Come on, how am I supposed to remember that? That was like a hundred years ago."

I will admit that I wasn't positive I was thinking of the right one with the 19th. (as it turns out, I was correct).

OK, why didn't anybody tell me that Star One did a song about Firefly?

A British man, reportedly a soldier, was murdered in London and beheaded by two men with large knives in what PM David Cameron is characterizing as a possible Islamic terrorist attack

Well, at least there were no guns involved / Progturd

Actually, they're probably disappointed it didn't involve a gun.

Prof. Hawkings appeases Muslim terrorists by refusing to attend a scientific convention in Israel and the Muslims reward Britain by chopping off the head of a passing soldier.

This is where appeasement gets Britain and you Reason clowns yourselves. Keep kissing the Islamic ass you guys, it won't save you and may even hasten your heads being chopped off sooner.

"There's no need to fear. Underzog is here."
