A New York City police detective has been charged with hacking into the email accounts of fellow officers.

Federal prosecutors announced the charges against Edwin Vargas on Tuesday.

A criminal complaint accuses Vargas of paying online hacking services roughly $4,000 to obtain usernames and passwords belonging to more than 30 people. The victims included 19 current police officers.
