At the same press conference, Obama insisted that the Benghazi questioning is just a "sideshow" rooted in politics.
The president then went on to give his opinion on the NBA playoffs and a follow up on Sandra Fluke's birth control.
I guess you would prefer a world with no Big Bird? Because that's what Romney wanted. No fucking Big Bird, no fucking Elmo, no Elmo guy fucking. You monster.
Side show is about right.

I DO NOT CONSENT TO BEING FILMED IN PUBLIC. It interferes with my walking.
I bet you also did not consent to me posting the first comment.
I have you blocked by reasonable so I'm first comment so I don't even see it.
Then how did you know to comment on this comment?
I didn't. Those are obviously just random words strung together that I happened to post in that spot.
Uh-oh. I smell more whistleblower blood about to be spilled.
Scandal upon scandal!
The Big O had jolly well take a deep breath and step away from this crap.
The press may actually take exception to something that administration has done.
Could he have picked a better week to complain about what he considers anti-government cynicism? Fuck you, Obama.
Ya I don't even think Bush was this dumb
The AP should know to look forward, not backward.
Upward, not forward, and always twirling!
That's more than a little troubling. And the government won't say what they're after.
He vowed that those who were responsible would be held "fully accountable" if it's determined that their behavior was not neutral or non-partisan.
"The persons responsible, whether they be a temp employee or a secretary or a janitor, all the way up to a mid-level functionary, I will see them punished."
Obama will write a strongly worded letter to Obama, saying how disappointed he is.
"Those responsible for sacking the persons who were sacked, have themselves been sacked."
"A M??se once bit my sister. . . ."
"Thwow them to the floow!"
Hey, it was about a video, and they got the guy who made the video and put him in jail. Case closed.
In Seattle, police will begin testing wearable cameras on their officers. Seattle Police are also known to give out a few beatings.
I predict many camera failures.
After which the testing will conclude the cameras are too unreliable for officer use.
It threatens officer safety.
I predict cops accidentally filming beatings, sex acts, wreckless driving.
And that's all just at Epi's place.
Don't be absurd, I don't invite cops to my BDSM parties. Or, as I like to call them, "Warty Parties".
That's a misnomer. We know for a fact that nothing Warty does is safe, sane, or consensual.
That's rather catchy, and terrible.
Exactly, jesse. Exactly.
Come on Warty, let's go party
AHH AHH AHH YEAH
they might even film reckless driving!
[shakes fist]

The Myth of Persecution: How Early Christians Invented a Story of Martydom
Why are you flacking a book written by someone with no connection to Reason or libertarianism?
Maybe he thinks it's interesting. This is the PM links, lighten up.
For the same reason that others here discuss things with no connection to Reason or libertarianism, such as the "Arrested Development" link below.
Hey, I don't see you questioning them. Get to it, man!
I interpreted Mike's remark as tongue-in-cheek.
I interpreted his remark as butt-hurt. I was right.
Yeah, sucks. That's what I get for trying to look for the good in people, heh.
Everybody has something to be butt-hurt about, amirite?
Talking about ongoing news in entertainment and sports isn't the same thing as promoting a book or a product, and you know it, so cut the crap.
I guess not...
But money can be exchanged for goods and services in the free markets. A book is the product of a free mind and sold in the free market. Free minds, free markets! Therefore Tonio's comment is on-topic for Reason.
You are totally right Mike. I prefer to read this blog for entertainment, and don't need people shilling products while I am eating my Cheetos snacks. I'd rather nothing interfered with my enjoying that flavorful experience. What is even more awesome is I can zip out to WalMart and grab a bag any time - convenient AND tasty!
You get your Cheetos from WalMart? Be a good American and get them from Amazon.

All this arguing is giving me a headache!
Here, try these.
Ahh, Nuprin. Little, yellow, different.
Pliny the Elder, Josephus, and Tacitus all mention Christian persecution.
And from the comments page some reviewer noted this passage:
"When Christians appeared in Roman courtrooms, they were not tried as heretics, blasphemers, or even fools. Christians had a reputation for being socially reclusive, refusing to join the military, and refusing to swear oaths. Once in the courtroom Christians said things that sounded like sedition. They were rude, subversive, and disrespectful. Most important, they were threatening. Even if the actions of the Romans still seem unjust, we must admit that they had reasons for treating Christians the way they did. The fact that religion and politics were so intimately blended with one another means that it is difficult to parse the motivations of Roman administrators as either religious or political. But from a Roman perspective and from the perspective of members of most ancient religious groups and political organizations, the Romans had the moral high ground. They were protecting the Empire from the wrath of the gods and its effects. That Christians were executed should not surprise us, this is a world in which people paid the "ultimate price" for seemingly small offenses."
So I guess they had it coming, am I right?
All of which are clearly deserving of the death penalty.
Even if the actions of the Romans still seem unjust, we must admit that they had reasons for treating Christians the way they did.
Government is always righteous and pure. It's your for appearing to be reclusive and suspicious. Why do you make the government beat you? WHY?!
I seem to remember the Nazis claiming that the Jews were trying to foster communism in Germany, and therefore they had total justification for trying to kill them all off. No doubt some of them were rude and disrespectful as well. Just like the Romans and the Christians, we must admit they had reasons for treating Jews the way they did.
Sounds like a day of run of the mill commenting at this place.
Do I need to come over there and watch you kick Epi's ass? DO I??!!
No, we're not threatening. Threatening, as opposed to the first three, is actionable. And we all learned our lesson about actionable, didn't we, Warty?
I don't know what you're talking about. Also, nothing I said was actionable.
I report, you decide.
Moss urges modern Christians to abandon the conspiratorial assumption that the world is out to get Christians and, rather, embrace the consolation, moral instruction, and spiritual guidance that these martyrdom stories provide.
Bleh. Wrapped in a pretty little condescending bow. I'd like to see the evidence and the argument she presents, but this modern hippie crap irks me. Either Christianity is true in its elemental claims, and the Gospel makes clear martyrdom served the cause of Christ, or it is absolutely worthless. Finding a middle ground based on vague spirituality turns your brain into tripe.
Not unlike my college philosophy of religion class, which kept insisting we should focus on the words of Jesus, and ignore the "clearly impossible" things like walking on water, loaves and fishes and, of course, the resurrection. After all, it's just the ideas of yet another philosopher, not like he's some god or something. Our prof kept arguing that people were "missing the point" by thinking of the miracles and eternal life.
Your prof sounds like Thomas Jefferson.
Good man.

Anybody read the David Stockman book? I've been thinking about ordering it, but wondering if it's just a bunch of the same old stuff I already know.
Honestly, this has the stench to me of just another faux sophisticate palming off the spin that's going to make non-believers and liberal Christians feel good about themselves (for being soooo much more sophisticated than the evangelicals and Catholics).
The truth seems to be that, yes, there were Christian martyrs. Moss even seems to acknowledge that when you get through the spin. She just seems content to say "they had it coming".
"The tedium of repeated d?j? vu in this sad little volume did at least send me back to Gibbon's Decline and Fall. It is as if a publisher came to [author] Candida Moss...with a proposal for a quick buck, relying on the political twitter of the times: "You're an expert: Reframe Gibbon's notorious chapter on the Romans and the Christians with some contemporary scholarship and cultural fillips, and we can put out a nifty pamphlet that'll sell.""

Mark Steyn has an awesome article on Michael Bloomberg.
Thing is, I don't see how NYC should be any more receptive to his nannying than NH or SC. New Yorkers are supposed to know how to party.
The partying ended under Rudy.
These NYers don't vote. They also blow all there cash on expensive drinks, cover charges, etc. and therefore have nothing to offer the Littlest Fascist, except of course the taxes they pay.
the city's self-mythologizing has always been a total crock or something is shifting in the American psyche...The party system, as he sees it, deprived America of a Bloomberg presidency.
Yes.
Poor, poor Kanye. How must he suffer to always be in the spotlight.
Seriously, you must see this.
You know, it really perplexes me that with all the options Kanye undoubtedly has, he's going with Kim.
I don't get it either. If I was a rich and famous guy, I'd be screwing models from Eastern Europe or hot farmgirls from the Midwest who want to be famous. Not a used up sow like Kim.
Plus, he will inevitably be compared with Ray J. This will end in tears.
It wont last. Look at the cow.

Arrested Development season 4 trailer released.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the school George Michael goes to.
Why is George Michael still in college? Yeah, I know the character is two years younger than Michael Cera in actuality, but even still, it would mean George Michael is in his 5th year of college.
I know plenty of fifth years, it's not an uncommon thing if you want to study abroad for a quarter or double major.
I'm sure there's a good reason; I'm just hoping the show gives a good reason. Inability to complete a standard college career in 4 years sounds odd for George Michael.
He had to take a year off to manage the banana stand.
IT'S FULL OF SPOILERS. I assume, I didn't keep watching because I was afraid it was full of spoilers.
No spoilers. All we know is the Michael gets a car that will get a lot of stares.
And Buster gets his juice box.
Also, Tobias is still totally straight.
The latest sequestration scare tactic is claiming that the U.S. Forest Service will not have enough firefighters to tackle wildfires.
"What we need right now is a clear message to the people of this country. This message must be read in every newspaper, heard on every radio, seen on every television... I want everyone to remember, why they need us! "
He's probably right about the Benghazi hearings though; I can't imagine GOP reps taking the Bush administration to task for something like this. Doesn't mean he shouldn't be taken to task though.

Not as though TEAM Blue and their media flunkies weren't proclaiming everything Dubya did to be treason and unAmerican for eight years.
At least, when it politically suited them to do so. The Dems hard as huge a throbbing war boner as anyone else in DC at the outset.
http://www.avclub.com/articles.....bal,97658/ 24...erm, 12?...is being brought back for a new 12-episode season.
yeah, 24 doesn't really work as a half season show since the whole gimmick premises is based upon a 24 day.
Sounds like they will do 24 hours over 12 hours of broadcast time. Maybe they can actually have Jack travel completely across LA in a sedan during rush hour during the missing time, instead of the 8 minutes that used to take him in the original series.
My biggest problem with how 24 was originally done, in addition to the recycled plot devises (i.e., invoking the twenty-something amendment), were the episodes in which nothing really seemed to have been accomplished.
Later seasons (6-8) really struggled with this, but even early episodes were plagued by the unintended consequences of the 24-hour gimmick. The utterly ridiculous Kim Bauer subplots of seasons 1 and 2 come to mind.
The Department of Justice complied with an FOIA request for information about the Obama Administration's policy on intercepting text messages with a completely redacted 15-page document.
Redaction Jackson, what's your action? Blacking out words and phrases and clauses.
My wife got an FOIA request once and redacted every word but the indefinite articles. Then ran it through the fax machine, 4 different copiers, and then pdf'd it to send back. She was annoyed with the hippies who sent the request.
Every now and then I get ordered to search my files for "mind control" or "alien autopsy" or something stupid like that.
Scott S, on the homepage the post has "Aaron Settipane | Dreamstime.com" written along the bottom. I'm guessing photo credits for another story?
You mess with the skater kids, you get the board.
Southern California authorities say four youngsters could be charged with attempted murder after they beat and critically injured a man with their skateboards.
The Orange County Register says it happened Friday night after a woman bystander tried to break up a fight between two groups at a Huntington Beach skate park.
Personally, I hope their skateboards get, coated with Ben Gay, shoved up their asses, and lit on fire.
Prom is bad because it's heteronormative/it's for rich girls/beauty is valued/girls mostly submit to conventional gender roles/facebook.
And I thought this was going to link to J******. I are disappoint.
Wait, J-what? j-date?
LOL. Not enough letters. That feminist site which is often quoted here for snark value, and which is named after a biblical harlot. I'm avoiding naming them so it doesn't up their hit count.

I suppose she doesn't learn that self-absorbed cunts are self-absorbed and most other people don't really give a shit.
To answer your ridiculous compound question, no.
*facepalm*
Well GRANDMA, I don't care how flippin' gay you are or about your foolish adherence to the meaningless social hierarchy of high school.
We done here?
Wow! Oddly enough, recognizing all the warning signs that I wasn't going to have any fun (and blow lots of money to not have fun) with the breathless announcements relating to my high-school prom, I OPTED OUT, and took a girl out on a date instead.
We saw Charles Grodin in 'Charlie's Aunt' on VHS while cuddling on a couch.
And I had a very good time.
I guess this poor dear wasn't actualized enough to dare to other her classmates.
I asked dudes to both of my proms, and had a great time at the one I went to - just us and one other couple. It ended with a bonfire on the beach (sorry - no BJs. Didn't do that til college).
The only issue was the all-day orchestra rehearsal the following day. That was a bitch.
What? No. We used it as an excuse to go on a parentally funded overnight date and buy enough alcohol to last us through the end of our senior year. We were too lazy to book a limo.
So, basically, she's saying that, because she's gay, young girls and guys shouldn't have a prom. Why does the term "self-centered cunt" come to mind?
This is for Tulpa.
A Saudi man was arrested at Detroit Metropolitan Airport with a pressure cooker, less than a month after a bomb using one of the kitchen devices was used to kill three and injure hundreds.
Not the same incident as they posted before, and this guy was arrested for using an altered passport and lying to investigators.
Big diff between being questioned by FBI for carrying a pressure cooker into your house (as the other story alleged) and what actually happened with this guy at the airport.
My Turkish grandmother once got nailed for entering the U.S. with an altered passport.
She decided that she wanted to be 20 years younger and altered her birth-date accordingly.
The Customs guy was very understanding and commiserated with my dad and let her in.
It was back in a less barbaric age.
Wait, does he .. . does he not know you can buy those *inside* this country? You don't have to bring 'em with you?
Also - "altered passport" sounds so much more ominous than "tore a page out of it".
How human evolution prepared us to survive future disasters

Looks like the Brits have a familiar fight on their hands.
Two paralyzed British men who want to die but cannot kill themselves went to court on Monday seeking protection from prosecution for those who could help them end their lives.
The case is one of the most high-profile attempts to change the law on the right to die in Britain, where assisted suicide is illegal.
"I'm constantly thinking, 'how on Earth can I do it without getting someone into trouble?'" said Paul Lamb, who was left paralyzed by a car accident in 1990.
Gun! Oh, wait - it's the UK.
The latest sequestration scare tactic is claiming that the U.S. Forest Service will not have enough firefighters to tackle wildfires.
Uh, I'm pretty sure the sequester means that the number of wildfires has to be cut back, too.
Remember, kids. If it happens South of the Ohio river and East of the Colorado, teh hicks and hillbillies deserve it. Seriously, the collective "meh" given to Georgia, Florida and Texas wildfires is annoying. But somehow, the closer it gets to California, the more important it becomes.
Eeewwww! Poor people!
How can they be short of firefighters when most of the firefighters used are prisoners?
Our jails didn't empty when the sequester happened.
If O wants to save money, he can grant clemency to some of the dope dealers and other nonviolent offenders in federal prison.

He did indeed. I'm pretty sure he's still right there with Jenny McCarthy and Andrew Wakefield spreading anti-vaccine BS.
Didn't Wakefield change his stance, leaving just the morons to believe in it?
Nope. He's still big in the movement, he's still making money off it. He pretty much has to, because he medical license was revoked.
Shit, now that Chavez is dead I'm guessing he finds himself in quite the bind. When you can't hawk cheap oil anymore I guess it pays to be against oil.
The worst thing to happen to Mary Kennedy was Robert Kennedy Jr.
Her suffering is finally at an end.
The truth comes out.
If free political speech kills the Earth, does the Earth deserve to live?
When the hell are these douches going to disappear from the national psyche? Politics aside, they're garbage. Rich garbage to be sure, but nonetheless garbage. Drunks, rapists, philanderers, and generalized bums, I don't really see where they've contributed to country's life ever. From the cretinous old man who lobotomized his daughter and brought his mistress home to Sunday dinner on down, I can't think of a one of them I'd let into my home.
This was posted on MR a couple of weeks ago but I never got around to posting it:

Dear lord, Duckface has spread to Japan. It's officially a pandemic.
We should have just nuked New Jersey while it was still relatively contained.
There was no containing the outbreak. Sure, we could have set up concentration camps for teenage girls and had compulsory photography posing classes but once that stuff gets out there, that's it. I'm going to go back to my sealed lab at the CDC to study more uncontaminated pictures of chicks now. Probably video too.
Just keep an eye out for faux gang signs. After that there's no option but euthanasia.
See if you can also get to the root of the combination duck face/trying-to-be-the-shortest-girl-in-the-photo phenomenon.
I will spare no effort.
I'm going to go back to my sealed lab at the CDC to study more uncontaminated pictures of chicks now

Maybe. Depends on my mood.

You maniac! You ducklipped us all up!
Those are some pretty ugly girls for an Asian pop group. I expect better.
Yeah, I was thinking about that too. Not ugly IMO, but pretty low-rent for an "idol" group.
The one with the super-chinky eyes is my favorite.
Leaving the one with the super-chunkey eyes for John?
The worst is the one who looks like she's twelve. I don't think she's lost her baby fat yet.
Yeah, she's 17.
This requires a better Asian group of girls.
Nice, though they'e still no Girls' Generation.
...then again, without all the makeup and lighting and whatnot they probably look about the same.
Much better.
Ahhhhh, that's better.
Not a fan of raccoons, myself.
I mean, damn.
And I say this as someone who has seen their other videos already. Multiple, multiple times.
GAME SEVEN
Two game sevens.
The NHL is so underrated. So much parity, so much excitement in the playoffs. Not like the fucking NBA where it's the same fucking teams every year.
If they added some checking, line changes on the fly, and a few players who gave a shit, then maybe I'd watch an NBA game.

I basically feel adults are entitled to make the personal arrangements that please them as long as that doesn't hurt others, but my concern is what it means to the children. I don't get the impression that you've seriously thought through the effect of this on them since you are so unsure about how to present yourself as a newly constituted family.
Eh, it is a legitimate point. If you have kids, you put them before everything else, if you're a good parent. If something is likely to damage them, you don't fucking do it.
It's why I don't think I'll be a very good parent. I'm a selfish asshole, and the idea of spending my ammo budget on diapers does not appeal to me at all.
Welcome to manhood.
Oh, and my first thought was, "Well then, claim Father's Day for yourself", but then I remembered my Fathers' day when I was married:
Consisted of working all day in the yard to get it ready for family to have a barbecue in the backyard. Then the rest of the afternoon and evening was spent barbecuing for everyone and refilling their drinks. By the end of Fathers day, frankly, I was exhausted. I needed another Fathers day to rest up.
I feel for this woman, and I have no suggestions.
That's only the tip of the iceberg of problems you have.
Sad is that she doesn't understand. She's not the child's mother. She's not a mother at all.

Though I guess you need to scale up to hedge trimmers for that fuckstick's neck.
Scissors are OK, they'd just take longer.
Just think of it as a very, very late term abortion.
I think of much better uses of PA funds than putting an old man on Death Row, who will certainly die of natural causes first.
If he is not on Death Row he will not be as protected and I doubt that he would die of what you would normally call "natural causes" if not given that protection.

And here I thought that those were just clumps of cells and not babies, as some here had asserted with the self-confidence of a true believer.
Still trollin' that one hard, OM. Good luck with that.
Re: Tonio,
Patience, my young Jedi.
I agree with you on abortion, but they were born alive, so nearly everyone agrees they're human beings with a right to life.
Re: Tulpa,
Of course they would agree that those babies were born alive; it would be an extraordinary thing to believe otherwise considering there would be no point in snipping their spinal cords if they weren't (unless the good doctor was affraid they would turn into little zombies).
Many discussions here have centered on the question if these babies or fetuses should be afforded the same protections to their right to life as the rest of us are; that is, the question if those babies are human or not. The position of some in the pro-choice camp is that they are not, which brings up the question when would a person become a person and if there's a specific condition or trigger where a "clump of cells" suddenly obtains his right to life, that is: when a living being, whether inside or outside his or her mother, becomes a person.
"when a living being, whether inside or outside his or her mother, becomes a person."
As a parent and recent grand-parent, I sometimes wished for termination rights up to the 75th trimester.
It's good that it doesn't extend out that far, cause there were a few times those little bastards wouldn't of made it.
For me the question of whether it's human is irrelevant, mere speciesism. For me, what matters is whether it cares. If it doesn't mind dying, and nobody owns it and minds its dying, then no harm, no foul for killing it.
This straw-manning does not become you.
Any relation to Peyton and Eli?
Re: Marc F Cheney,
So I gather you do not agree those were mere clumps of cells?
If that's the case, where do you establish the threshold?
You first.
Do we agree that there is a threshold?
Do we agree that it was sometime before these babies were killed?
Then we're done here.

Here's Gene's evaluation of Alan Turing (and I guess Alonso Church and that other guy) (emphasis
mine):
How odd. I do all my computations with one very long paper tape, a pencil with an eraser, and a lot of time. It's math.
Yes, but your math is abnormal, non-Euclidian, and loathsomely redolent of spheres and dimensions apart from ours.
In fact, you must be able to do so for CPUs and GPUs to work as they do. Sometimes I wish Neal Stephenson would take the time he was going to put into his next book and get with the Khan Academy to teach all the things he did in Diamond Age in a more organized and expanded form.
"But there are only zero of you!"
While Im opposed to most IP in general, even from the assumption that it should exist, software should by copyrightable not patentable.
And that is the stupidest comment Ive ever seen.
Okay, not quite that bad, but its in the running.
"Let's be clear: if all of these claims, including the system claims, are not patent-eligible, this case is the death of hundreds of thousands of patents, including all business method, financial system, and software patents as well as many computer implemented and telecommunications patents," Moore wrote.
Something significant happened recently.
GOOD.
OMG! A reduction in monopoly, and an expansion of the free market?!?
AWESOME!
'Theft' and 'free-market' are not the same thing. Not that I should expect an anarcho-tard to differentiate.
Yup, we gotta do everything we can to prevent the "theft" of math.
From the dissent:
[I]f all of these claims, including the system claims, are not patent-eligible, this case is the death of hundreds of thousands of patents, including all business method, financial system, and software patents as well as many computer implemented and telecommunications patents.
And the problem is ..... ?
But you are taking the quote out of context. He was talking about the calculations necessary to target a ballistic missile using GPS, which brings time considerations into play. The Church Turing Thesis assumes infinite time available.
Did anyone hear something stupid?
Michael J. Fox to return to television with new comedy show.
That should really shake up NBC's primetime lineup.

Michael J Fox makes you want to lose control.

But they'll be great for Dunphy's series of POV cop-groupie porn.
Having a feminist mom must suck.
shrug.
The pinkification of girl's toys is weird.
Yeah, stupid toy manufacturers making stuff in colors that make children "squeal with delight". Weird.
Yep, female affinity for the color pink is just totally natural.
Like their propensity to grow boobs.
Gendered baby clothes are the dumbest fucking thing ever.
Smithsonian has an article on gendered colors and FDR wearing a dress (with photo).
So are you telling us that your mom dressed you up in pink?
Gillette: My mother told me she loved me all the time.
Malory: Exactly, look how you turned out.
Gillette: Uh, with high self esteem?
Mostly blues and yellows actually, but I was pretty drunk the whole time.
It's pretty obvious that it was a sales tactic to get mothers to buy a second set of baby clothes instead of passing down what they had dressed their boy or girl in.
The fact that it stuck so well is kind of amazing, and I think it says something about our culture's insecurity with femininity in boys and vice-versa.
Wow.....that's not even the good kind of crazy.
She is incapable of telling a 3 year old no, so it must be the toy manufacturer's fault.
Well obviously it's the toy manufacturers' job to do the parenting. While she can so "no" to her brats, what about all those other awful mothers out there who haven't taken 6 semesters of womyn's studies? Those bitches might buy their daughters pink toys!
Fuckin LOL--that whole article reads like something she wrote for her high school English class. Are feminists capable of writing anything that isn't relentlessly self-aggrandizing and tedious?
So Walmart has been trying to open a store in Midtown Miami for the last couple of years. There's been tons of roadblocks thrown up in their way thanks to a "No Walmart in Midtown" movement that's actually led by a friend of mine. Anyways, he's very proud of himself. Here's a sample of an argument from another person in the movement:
"NO WALFART IN MIDTOWN!! There's already a TARGET!! Hows about putting an Equinox, CRUNCH or LA Fitness in Midtown so people can get healthy instead of spending money on WALFART made in China crap they don't need."
That's basically the argument. There's a Target in the general vicinity, so Walmart is completely unnecessary. And evil. I've tried to interject with a "They can open. If it's as bad as you say, then nobody will patronize the store anyways, and it will close". I got back all the typical "WALMART BAD KILL LOCAL BUSINESSES" arguments.
(the local businesses in Miami generally suck. It's generally gray market (at best) stores with imported and reimported goods)
How do the people in Midtown buy delicious Cheetos snacks?
Honestly, I'd sympathize, except its fucking Miami.
The eye of America's wang?

Seize the moral high ground. Just ask 'what would Ayn Rand say?' and then say it. Don't be any less acidic.
American Airlines flight forced to make emergency landing due to woman refusing to stop singing Whitney Houston songs.
I'm completely ok with that. In fact, I'm ok with Gitmo remaining open so that woman can be placed there.
When she OD'd, I had a friend who had to call HR to have the woman in the cublicle outside her office stop playing the same 3 songs during the 4th hour. Because apparently, "Could you turn that down a little?" was too subtle.
I understand that having to listen to some poor Whitney imitator for the whole flight would be very unpleasant, I can't understand how it could be so dangerous that you'd seriously stop the flight early to get the woman out of there.
I'd be pissed at having to listen to her - I'd be even more pissed at being delayed because someone got an authority boner and *had* to be obeyed RIGHT THIS INSTANT!
Seems less disruptive to just tie her up and gag her.
Current headline on Drudge:

The Justice Department secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in what the news cooperative's top executive called a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into how news organizations gather the news.

Well this does explain why the media is turning on The One. Wait till Petreus starts to get his kicks in. I'm sure he's a forgive and forget kind of guy.
That's right. Army types hate kicking ass when it's easy.
I suppose this is where "libertarianism" is going to show its wonkish, weak side and come up with some drivel about "right to choose" and other bullshit about freedom.
Democrats worship at the altar of abortion, and THIS is where it leads.
Would anyone like to make the case that Dr. Mengele wouldn't have voted hardcore Democrat?
Nice Godwin.
D+
Aren't we supposed to drink now?
Way ahead of you.
You know, Mengele gets a bad rap. He has a cool name, and he learned that if you clone Adolf Hitler you should probably put the clones into environments as much like Hitler's was growing up as you can. I mean, the guy was ahead of time, let's be honest.
keep your friends close and your possible genetic clones of Adolf Hitler closer.
Words to live by.
Oh Krieger, nothing is ever an accident.
"Stop. My penis can only get so erect."
Malory: Is Krieger hard at work?
Sterling: I think he literally is.
I need a pot of coffee just like I like my women: black, bitter, preferably fair trade.
Shh shh shh shh shh shh shh. Don't want to know, but you do probably want to go wash your lips now.
Plus, he was a killer songwriter.
I KNEW IT!!!111!!!!
I had your number two weeks ago, Episiarch!
What Mengele did wasn't necessarily human experimentation - often it was pointless torture.
You were talking about Tulpa, right?
Nope, I was talking about *YOU?*.
Ok I was talking about Tulpa a bit.
But I got better.
And he looked a whole lot like Gregory Peck. I mean, A LOT.
Re: AlgerHiss,
Mind what you're saying, sir. Libertarianism does not mean that one gets to decide whether others are human or not. Murder is still murder; matters little if the victim has legs and feet or not. What matters is that the victim is human.
"Right to choose" is just an euphemism invented by the double-speak crowd. The proper term is abortion. Some libertarians believe that women have a right to abort their children under the justification that women have ownership of their bodies. This is true, but they conveniently leave out the fact that a human fetus also has ownewrship of his or her body. Other libertarians (like me) follow the Non-Aggression Principle to its logical conclusion and find the act of killing another human being, even one in his or her early stages of development, immoral and reprehensible, an act at least deserving social and economic banishment for the perpetrator.
That's only if a fetus is a person, which it definitely isn't.
The competition for most butt hurt on thread just heated up.
Are you seriously going to respond to a troll that goes under the nom de guerre of Alger Hiss?
Ever notice how Gough & Millar portrayed Clark Kent on TV as Alger Hiss?
" but they conveniently leave out the fact that a human fetus also has ownership of his or her body."
I agree with this. I also think it's illogical that men don't have any say about the life of the fetus but have to be stuck with the child support if the woman decides to have it. The pro-choice woman's view is not just "it's my body" but "it's my body and if I have this kid, your money is mine too" It's tyrannical.
Actually, this kind of sketchy operation is what one would expect in a state where abortion is so heavily regulated.
Yeah, poor guy. The regulations made him do it.
And the frequent state inspections...wait, Ridge stopped those.
The existence of Kickstarter forever validated by the completion of life-size RoboCop statue in Detroit.
life-size?
I saw a guy standing next to it, and it dwarfed him. that thing is larger than life.
This is fucking awesome.
Cult???
Yeah, what makes it "cult?" It's not Repo Man, after all.
I give it two weeks before it's stolen and sold for scrap.
Drunken safari guide charges elephant.
If they were actually in Kruger Park, you're not even allowed to get out of your vehicle except in certain designated areas. Private game reserve, pretty much anything goes. Except don't charge the elephants.
Also, the tourist is getting all the blame, but that is a South African accent cheering him on.
Somewhat related: absolutely go on a safari if you possibly can. Fucking great.
I want to go on a real safari. The kind where I come back with heads and skins. That's probably illegal now though.
Are you kidding? No it's not. It's a major industry over there.
No the coming back with the heads and skins part. I mean, I want a goddamn leopard skin bathrobe, made with leopard I personally killed.
I know that you can definitely hunt, but probably not the protected animals like leopards and whatnot. Outside the Kruger and the adjacent private game reserves they have dudes with guns who would like nothing more than to seriously fuck up poachers.
I didn't see any leopards, but got the rest of the Big Five.
Ezra Klein: The IRS Did the Best They Could. Also...Citizens United
Let's try to keep two things in mind simultaneously: The IRS does need some kind of test that helps them weed out political organizations attempting to register as tax-exempt 501(c)4 social welfare groups. But that test has to be studiously, unquestionably neutral.
It is worth remembering an important fact here: The IRS is supposed to reject groups that are primarily political from registering as 501(c)4s. If they're going to do that, then they need some kind of test that helps them flag problematic applicants. And that test will have to be a bit impressionistic. It will mean taking the political rhetoric of the moment and watching for it in applications. It will require digging into the finances and activities of groups on the left and the right that seem to be political even as they're promising their activities are primarily non-political.
I was under the impression that the law said that the group had to be nonpartisan, not nonpolitical.
You're thinking of 527 groups. The TP orgs targeted by the IRS were filing as a 501c3 "social welfare" group, a category which does not permit political advocacy as a central activity of the org.
As I was explaining the other day before being drowned out by people who don't know what they're talking about other than that they hate the IRS: contributions to 527 groups are not tax deductible, while 501c3 contributions are. That's presumably why the TP groups attempted to file as 501c3.
501c4, genius
That's a minor detail, and in no way detracts from his larger point.
*walks away whistling*
Ah, never mind, I see the targeted groups were filing as 501c4 (which is not what was reported the other day -- they said 501c3 yesterday) which is not allowed to claim donations to be tax deductible.
It was reported at 501c4 from the beginning, which is what we have been trying to tell you.
Who told Klein that? He's an idiot.
Hence the inability of Organizing For America to get that status. Oh, wait....
In defense of millenials against narcissistic Gen X writers.
If one bothers to step outside of the cycle of whining, the more honest conclusion is that today's kids are pretty great people, especially compared to the rest of us screw-ups. Millennials are more liberal than the generations before, suggesting a shift away from the politics of resentment and toward a politics of generosity and social support. They're pretty responsible, too. They're the ones who managed to cut the teenage pregnancy rate by 42 percent since 1990, and even though there are as many of them as there are Baby Boomers, they managed to come of age without creating the same massive spike in the crime rate. Even though they're starting out their adult lives in an period of economic crisis, they're an optimistic crew.
They just want to spend other peoples money!
Just wait until the free shit train goes saliing off the tracks and they reach that magical age of.... 27?.. mom and dad kicks their arses out of the basement, and they have a bunch of unpaid student loans and no job.
Then we'll see how damn optimistic they are.
What sucks is that people like me have to fucking suffer because of all these idiots who bought into the Obama bullshit.
I don't know who I hate more, the people who voted for him and now don't understand why they can't find a job, or the ones who voted for him, took the student loans, and then got a government job which will pay off the loans for them in return.
Seriously fucking bullshit.
I don't know who I hate more
The ones who voted for Obama, and are now whining about the increased costs of health care for young healthy adults.
Seriously, if they really believe in all this socialist stuff, then they have to believe in it even when it's to their disadvantage.
"Well, it may be to *my* disadvantage, but it *is* for the greater common good!"
Not when they're 100% lacking in any guiding principles whatsoever.
Just more proof that socialists only like socialism when they're receiving it. They don't like giving it. Human nature is a bitch. It's just that some of us are more honest about it than others.
Millennials are more liberal than the generations before, suggesting a shift away from the politics of resentment
Whoever wrote that hasn't visited a social science or humanities class lately.
toward a politics of generosity and social support
Not when they realize Grandma and Grandpa are going to bankrupt Social Security, they won't.
Even though they're starting out their adult lives in an period of economic crisis, they're an optimistic crew.
When you've been told your whole life how special you are, your optimism is going to be pretty high until your fourth or fifth year selling socks at JCPenney.
Dude, what's insanity to me is hearing people complaining about hiring college grads, finding them whiny and entitled and stupid, and then continuing to hire college grads. I've on multiple occasions offered to work for free for a couple weeks, only to be turned down.
When it comes to bureaucracy, big companies are on the same level as a university: no one will ever give you shit for hiring an idiot with a degree, but if you hire someone without one and he doesn't work out, you're in big trouble.
Folks, the person who wrote this piece was none other than...wait for it...millenial, Amanda Marcotte. So, she's basically saying, "Yeah, my generation of self-absorbed socialists are koooll...."
NR, what the fuck is up with this weather? Didn't politicians promise us global warming? Liars! I'm freezing my ass off in the middle of May! Needz moar Co2!
We finally got a whole season of "Spring" here in North Florida, instead of two weeks between cold rains and the hot, humid summer death march. I understand why people enjoy it so much now.
Are we experiencing some sort of Tulpa clone troll outbreak?
I think its Mary.
Yeah, I think Mary's off her meds again.
I suspected as much. Mary has possessed Tulpa. Damn, that's scary.

I'll sign on to this. I deal with kids all the frigging time in my job and on the whole... I'm impressed. Generally speaking, I see polite, respectful, well intentioned, willing to get involved, etc. as attributes. Our youth are doing just fine imo. And I'm talking from all stratas of society - rich young punks in Million Dollar House neighborhoods, and kids from the trailer park. Across the board.
Hopeless nerd upset about high school wedgies complains about libertarians
For a long while, the libertarian argument seemed to prevail; yes, the argument went, we concede the savagery and the destruction but, to paraphrase Hyman Roth, this is the business they have chosen. Both of those strategies have run their course. Scientific evidence continues to overwhelm any attempts to spin what happens to a human being over the course of a career playing football. And there comes a point at which the libertarian argument runs headlong into the question of whether it is moral for a society to allow people to commit slow-motion suicide for the purposes of mass entertainment.
Keep in mind that Pierce, when he's not calling for the dissolution of sports, acts as the premier New England Patriots jock-sniffer. He's the embodiment of the fact that Massholes never lost their Puritan ideology, it just became secular in nature rather than Christian.
I like how he just declares the libertarian argument is dead without ever proving it so. He says it is, so it fucking is. Deal with it.
It's like how the proglotards decided that after the incident in Newtown, CT, that the gun debate was over. They declared they were going to 'move forward with gun control'.
That's how they are. They always assume that there can be no opposition to their goals. It's because of their group think disease. They can't conceive that anyone, let alone a majority, could possibly not want to go along with everything they think up, no matter how insane.
but... 90% of the people support expanded background checks! Black Jesus told me so!
Well, sometimes when they are suffering from the shock of a political defeat, they resort to fabrications, since they cannot accept any reality that does not match their own.
What? We said it was for the children, and they're still against it?!
why is libertarian becoming a popular term for a lot of shit that is not really libertarian?
I mean, Libertarians comprise of probably less than 10% (and that's generous) of the population, but we are somehow responsible for all the world's problems.
When did we become the (insert hated minority of the month, ie Kikes/Niggers/WOPs/Wetbacks/Muzzies/Commies)?
What could people possibly have against Muzzy?
DR. PULASKI!
People are suddenly hating on libertarians because Rand Paul is scaring the shit out of them. They are realizing he is showing a side of the GOP that could actually retake a lot of the country. So they are starting now to make sure that anyone who thinks like him is considered tinfoil-hat and evil.
I like the sound of that dude.

Does this have anything to do with fabulous bean footage?
Yeah whenever you see the word "social", grab your fucking wallet.
I don't think so. Better than a Bond movie that year seems unculty to me.
