Shikha Dalmia in the Washington Examiner on Restrictionist Stupidity Post-Boston
No sooner was it revealed that the two Boston bombers were Russian emigres of Chechen heritage than Iowa's Sen. Charles Grassley declared that the attacks show that America needs to "beef up security checks," not let more newcomers in. Rep. Steven King, also a committed restrictionist from Iowa, demanded we pause and look at "the big
picture" on immigration, as if seven years since the last failed effort at reform is not enough. Most disappointing was Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky's switcheroo. Last month, he distanced himself from his party's harsh anti-immigration rhetoric. This week he counseled that we rethink visas for foreign students, never mind that neither of the Brothers Tsarnaev ever obtained one.
But Reason Foundation Senior Analyst Shikha Dalmia in her morning column reminds us of the story about the drunk who loses his car keys in the forest but looks for them under a lamp post because that's where the light is. "Conservative calls to fight terrorism in the wake of the Boston attack by ditching immigration reform make just as much sense," she notes. "The difference is that the drunk's efforts were merely futile. Conservative efforts are also dangerous because they ignore the security threat that Big Government poses."

Rep. Steven King was quoted as saying, "We've got to stop letting these clowns in."
Why does an immigrant need to take your job? FYTW. And if you die to another bombing, well, at least you didn't have to mow your own lawn. Or, well, you probably did, because YOU lost your job. But at least the elite didn't have to.
"Why does an immigrant need to take your job? FYTW."
More like, "What right do you have to tell me who I can and can't hire? FYTW." Nobody has a right to a specific job (or a specific wage).
"And if you die to another bombing, well, at least you didn't have to mow your own lawn."
Because native born Americans never commit bombings or murders. Seriously, this is the stupidest argument. Why don't we just make having children illegal, because some of them are guaranteed to grow up and become killers?
Let's reach out to the opposition by calling them stupid! That worked so well for the gun control debate.
Shikha continues to work hard on bringing in as many as 33 million new persons, the vast majority of whom will be big government dependents, supporters and voters. This should advance the libertarian agenda immediately and for the future.
