Obama Budget Calls for Privatizing the Tennessee Valley Authority

President Obama's proposed 2014 budget includes an item free marketeers can rally behind: "reducing or eliminating" the federal government's role in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation's largest publicly owned utility.
Naturally, both of Tennessee's Republican senators oppose the proposal.
Via Bloomberg News:
"The odd thing is that a bunch of Rs are defending the most liberal, collectivist, state-managed thing ever undertaken in the United States," said [Mike] McKenna, [a Republican energy lobbyist] whose clients include the Atlanta-based utility Southern Co. (NSC) that could benefit from a sale of the TVA, in an e-mail. "TVA was the brainchild of the near-communists in the Roosevelt administration."
Senator Lamar Alexander, a Tennessee Republican who opposes government subsidies for energy production, called the proposal "one more bad idea in a budget full of bad ideas," in a statement. He said the sale might lead to higher energy costs for his constituents without providing much money to the U.S. to pay down the debt.
…Consumers in Alabama and Tennessee, the TVA's largest service areas, pay less for electricity than the national average, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration.
…The TVA has 13,600 employees now, according the budget proposal. The workforce is expected to fall 2.2 percent to 13,300 next year.
The idea of selling the TVA has few supporters in Congress, said Representative Steve Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat, in an interview.
He and his Republican colleagues most often disagree on the "virtues of government." That's not so in this case, he said.
From the administration's proposed budget:
TVA's power service territory includes most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Virginia, covering 80,000 square miles and serving more than nine million people.
Jim Powell outlined some of the TVA's greatest hits for Reason back in 2009 including: kicking 15,000 people out of their homes, flooding an area larger than the state of Rhode Island and generally being a taxpayer-funded boondoggle from the get-go.

The odd thing is that a bunch of Rs are defending the most liberal, collectivist, state-managed thing ever undertaken in the United States...
Congressional Republicans not living up to their small government creds? Say it ain't so!
Jeebus H. Christ, what a bunch of idiots. Not only are they "not living up to their small government creds," they are passing up a fine opportunity counteract the "they just oppose Obama out of racism and spite" meme.
THIS IS WHO THEY ARE. THIS IS WHAT THEY DO.
We just need a big Electric Company to buy Lamar a boat o something and BOOM! problem solved.
The Stupid Party never misses an opportunity to do something stupid.
They aren't the stupid party for nothing.
The TVA has turned the eponymous river into such an environmental basket case that Uncle Sam would be glad to be rid of the liability for fixing it.
There's a building on the NASA-Ames site near Palo Alto which the gov't offered to Lockheed for $1.00.
Lockheed had rented the building for years doing gov't work in there and knew full well what was there and how the enviro rules had changed; it is a hazmat site with a roof.
No takers.
Aren't taxpayers always on the line for enviro clean-up regardless of who made the mess? Thought that's what the EPA Suckerfund was for?
The Tennessee Valley of the 1930s was one of the poorest places in the United States. Then the US government came in with one of the biggest government construction projects outside the Communist world. The Tennessee Valley of the 2010s is one of the poorest places in the United States.
They'll throw Huntsville, Alabama (largest Tennessee Valley city) in your face in you say that. I'll really can't knock Huntsville's quality of living, but I would say that it's its own case of federal involvement that needs to end, but in that case, it's the military industrial complex we're talking about.
By the way, I had heard that Huntsville is getting some drone program money, so be ready to hear about Shelby and Sessions going to war with Rand Paul.
Huntsville is a nice place to live, just like many places with a huge amount of other people's money flooding in is a nice place to live.
Just ask the peoples of London, Paris, Dublin, and the District.
THIS.
And they flooded schools, stole private property, and generally showed nothing but disdain for anything resembling private property rights while they were at it.
Fuck the TVA.
RINO assholes doing what RINO assholes do best? Ain't that a shocker! Unless you've contracted Tony Syndrome, and your brain is thereby liquified batter, there's no justification whatsoever for the existence of of the TVA.
This is why I get so fucking pissed at Republicans who swear up and down that even if I can't stomach the social conservatism or the foreign policy, at least they're good on the economy.
But they fucking aren't. Every goddamn Republican in Congress with the exception of three or four thinks the amount of socialist bullshit we already have is just fine, they just don't want any more.
Fucking fuck I hate them.
I wasn't aware every Republican in Congress had designated LAMARRRR!!!! Alexander as his or her spokesperson.
cant tell if serios
Tulpa has a point. Lamar Anderson is one of the most hated Congressional figures on the right and is constantly being called a RINO.
Yeah, but truly, how many decent Republican Congressmen are there? If you stretch the criteria, 30? 40?
Tulpa, do you honestly think Republicans in general are good on the economy and fiscal matters?
You fools can learn!
We've always hated Republicans, dipshit. We just hate your dem-fellating more.
Palin's Buttplug| 4.13.13 @ 8:42PM |#
"You fools can learn!"
This from a dipshit who finds Obozo just WONDERFUL!
Go fuck your daddy.
Fuck you are a stupid Demfag.
Really, which one of you is PBP? It's such an obvious cardboard cutout, you're doing the rest of us a disservice.
"He said the sale might lead to higher energy costs for his constituents without providing much money to the U.S. to pay down the debt."
Yeah, well, dipshit, *I'd* rather not be the one subsidizing your constituents' electric bills.
Exactly. With a few, insurmountable exceptions, there aren't any colossal obvious fiscal sumps that by themselves would set right the national budget. It's comprised of countless divots just like this.
Taking a boondoggle created by the federal government and dumping the heavily regulated burden on local governments is no tip of the hat to the free market or small government. But it could serve as a way to punish taxpayers in a conservative state while ostensibly hoisting Republicans by their own "private enterprise" petard.
Anybody surprised that both senators Alexander and Corker from Tennessee signed on to give the new gun control bill a vote?
Limey media outlets are going absolutely batshit about the "possibility" that the bill's going to fail, and that the evil, violent, uncivilized American obsession with death machine street-sweeper destructo-firearms will continue.
Prohibitionist, pussified fucks.
I never understood the foreigner's obsession with our gun laws. Why do they care so much? What does it matter to them if we blast ourselves to hell, or not? They don't even like us.
Is it that they just can't sleep until every square metre of earth is a government controlled dystopia like theirs?
Foreigners have been obsessed with America for at least sixty or seventy years. The gun laws thing is just because we are the only nation left that protects gun rights. It's a very clear marking of otherness.
Yeah, but I don't go to England and tell them how to throw soccer riots, dance on Margaret Thatcher's grave, or consume limes to ward off scurvy.
They could at least show me the same courtesy.
Don't hold your breath. Many Brits harbor a sharp, throbbing loathing of all things American, and they don't understand the concept of general courtesy.
I always think it's funny that Americans still believe Britain is a classy nation compared to America. Britain as a country is filled with vulgar, hateful trolls. I have seen and heard things in Britain that most Americans wouldn't believe. I've been there multiple times, and I'm always staggered by how miserable the population seems to be. You can't go five steps in northern England without someone calling someone else a stupid cunt.
I'd love to see some of these Brit-lovers, who only know about the UK from Doctor Who, actually go to England. The minute they got on public transportation and saw a group of young Brits screaming the C-word at one another, I think their views on Great Britain would change rather quickly.
I see it as an example of just how the State can destroy not just prosperity, but culture. I mean, these were people who neatly queued for air raid shelters only sixty years ago.
The chav dependency class in Britain is really sickening. Imagine the worst aspects of white-trash American culture and amp it up to 11.
These are the people who were shitting up twitter for two days calling Maggie Thatcher a slag cunt and slinging insults at each other that barely even classify as English. I mean, Johnny Rotten came out and said that those people were disgusting. When you've offended Johnny Rotten's sensibilities, something is seriously wrong.
You know who is pals with Johnny Rotten, at least according to his most recent book? Greg Gutfeld, the self-described libertarian host of Red Eye and The Five. He said Rotten is definitely left-wing but is surprisingly sensible and definitely not lockstep with all the prog positions.
I'm not sure why but that does not completely surprise me.
When I lived there, it was in a southern city called Luton, and it wasn't much better, in my experience, than the northern areas I'd been to in England, to be honest.
Again, it's general, deeply ingrained cultural courtesy. I've honestly never known any American to be anywhere near as disrespectful, spiteful, and callous in any given matter as any comparable Brit.
When's the last time an American football crowd spent 10 minutes spewing racial slurs at a a football player? Because it happens a frigging shitload in England and France.
"I always think it's funny that Americans still believe Britain is a classy nation compared to America."
When you've been birthed, raised, and have lived your entire life in the most prosperous, civilized place in history, it's easy to forget that your condition is a true exception among the peoples of the world.
It becomes easy to start thinking that you've got it rough, and you begin idolizing places far away, whether it's because they're quirky, or because they still have a reigning monarch, or whatever.
It's really, really sad. It's also disgusting. I think my grandfather would have a lot to say to those people if he were alive today (he died in a gulag).
Geez, I can get that every day here in NYC. Except it's the N-word.
This is why there are no female British people.
giggling...
They're jealous.
America defines international culture. Shitting on us is a popular pastime.
"Shitting on us is a popular pastime."
Or passing laws regarding the number of US films shown per year, etc.
America defines international culture. Shitting on us is a popular pastime.
True, but when you read their stories or comments about our supposed gun culture it's like there's a real fear there.
Of what, I don't know.
Maybe that their citizens will start questioning why they can't have weapons, so they try to convince them how horrible and wrong it is over here.
Their voracious appetite for our movies and TV really helps perpetuate that too. I mean, if all you knew of America was from movies and TV, you'd probably think our crime rate was much much higher then theirs. I've had to explain to Brits that America was, on the whole, much safer then their country, two or three times as much.
Well, America has individual areas where the crime rate is like 3rd world level. That drags our overall crime rate much higher than the experience of the average American.
Our murder rate is 3 times that of Great Britain, but our crime rate among white people, Asians, and Middle Eastern people is actually lower than most of Europe.
The murder rate among Caucasians in this country is about 2 per 100,000, which is almost identical to England. Unfortunately, crime tends to absolutely atrocious in majority black and majority Hispanic neighborhoods. Behold the glory of the welfare state.

Interesting piece here. Short version: In the US, the FBI logs all homicides. In the UK the Home Office logs all homicides when they are closed. So if a murder goes unsolved, it never gets fucking logged.
Eh. I don't know that Free Republic is a source I'd trust. I haven't read the article, and if they offer other, more legitimate sources I'll change my opinion, but trusting Freepers would be like nodding agreeably to everything the people at Democratic Underground or the Daily Kos try to feed you.
Did you read the piece?
I'm reading it now. It seems more legit than I originally thought. I still want to look up some of the sources before I buy it though.
It wouldn't surprise me if it's true, though. It's often hard to compare countries by crime rate because of different reporting measures. Sweden, for example, reports having 3 times as many rapes as America, but it's because Sweden has records each individual sexual assault as a rape, whereas most countries only count it as one rape if it involves the same victim and perpetrator. That leads to Sweden having inflated rape statistics compared to other countries, and I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true of other crimes.
Also true when you hear the wail about how bad the US is in infant mortality rankings. Many other countries don't count babies stillborn or who die in the first seven days after birth in their infant mortality counts. How can the US compete against them? Also, given our high-tech medical capacity, we also try to keep a lot of infants alive that in other countries they would just allow to perish.
An excerpt from the end:
"Sorry about the long aside, back to murders. Remember that 657 number from the Home Office? The Coroners only called 229 of the cases they determined a cause of death on a homicide, and in 4400 cases they filed a "narrative verdict" describing the cause of death in a narrative manner without putting it in a category. If those 4400 cases are what we would normally call murders (and various UK media sources which I can't find the link to just now but will come back and edit into here soon) suggest that the correct number of "violent deaths of interest to the police" is on the order of 4700 for 2011, then the UK murder rate is 4.7 per 100,000 or about 15% higher than the US murder rate.
I know, I know, there's no way I'm going to get most of my friends to read this, much less get people like Piers Morgan and his ilk to belive it much less repeat it, but still, here's the short version:
The murder rate in the UK is either equal to or higher than the murder rate in the US.
Note also that this is the MURDER rate, irrespective of the METHOD of the murder. I utterly refuse to get into the discussion of "gun violence." A death is a death."
Yeah, still a little quizzical. 'Various sources I can't currently find' doesn't strike me as enough of a smoking gun to say for sure that this is true.
I don't know that Free Republic is a source I'd trust. I haven't read the article
Neither have I, but I know enough about international statistical practices to know comparing US and British stats is something that must be done with great care. The US gives "initial disposition" and Britain gives "final disposition." Example: Two men go out, burglarize an entire street of 20 homes, then later kill someone, get arrested, tried jointly, and convicted only for the burglaries. Because there are no witnesses, they cannot prove which one committed the murder.
In the US that would count for 20 burglaries and 2 murders.
In the UK that would count for 1 burglary and zero murders.
http://rboatright.blogspot.com.....rates.html
The blog which originally published this piece.
Also, after he corrects his math:
Also, several types of violent crimes aren't reported and fed into the statistics unless they're solved. So imagine how much higher their rate would be if it were different.
I shudder to think.
Fun fact: The UK's violent crime rate is almost five times worse than ours. It was even higher about eight years ago, if I recall correctly, then it improved slightly in the UK, and it's been steady ever since.
Don't bring that up, though. IT AIN'T CIVILIZED. Pointing out to them that their island's a battlefield in comparison wouldn't get much coverage from the domestic media anyway.
The murder rate among Hispanics is actually not that much higher than it is for whites. Much of whatever difference there is is due to demographics (Hispanics are younger on average, and disproportionately male). Outside the Northeast (where Hispanic incarceration rates are the highest and whites the lowest), there is virtually no difference in the incarceration rate of 18-39 year old Hispanic and white males. El Paso is like 90% Hispanic and has one of the lowest, if not the lowest, homicide rate in the country. The homicide rate in heavily Hispanic urban cities is not significantly different than it is in heavily white urban cities.

But but Downton Abbey!
QED
I thought this Theodore Dalrymple article was an interesting read on the subject (although I don't necessarily agree with all of his ideas):
The Quivering Upper Lip; The British character: from self-restraint to self-indulgence
It's quite amazing what the rest of the world has been spoonfed and believes about the USA. I had an exchange in a cancer patient listserve today with a woman from Thailand, who insisted if she lived in the USA she'd be dead now -- because she isn't rich, and only the wealthy get health care in America.
because she isn't rich, and only the wealthy get health care in America.
The myth is that if you're poor and get any sort of advanced medical treatment, you and your family will be bankrupt for 100 generations.
That having been said, I can say from personal experience, quality medical care can be had for pretty cheap (by American standards) in Thailand.
*snorts G&T (with lime to ward off scurvy) out nose*
...and the tonic takes care of scurvy. Sounds like NHS should be picking up the tab for your gin and tonic preventative medicine.
Goddammit, not scurvy. This fucking capitalist health system has turned my mind to mush from lack of proper treatment.
MALARIA
Yup, it's the quinine in tonic.
And it fluoresces!
In the case of the general British media, your guess fits perfectly.
They're slavemaking degenerates to whom the only acceptable model of society is one in which safety, social order, and, although they deny it explicitly, conformity are provided by a powerful, preeminent, proactive state.
In fact, they think that things like safety and social order are only possible with a rabidly authoritarian government.
The private ownership of lethal tools, therefore, is totally unconscionable to most of them. That means the individual human being has the power of enforcing his sovereignty -- of being a nation unto himself, truly empowered to act upon his will, and to defend himself personally from aggression.
Try striking up a conversation with a Brit sometime, and tell him you carry a gun on your hip. If he doesn't threaten you with a call the police, dub you a moron Yank redneck, and tell you you're probably racist within 20 seconds, I'll pay you $50.
This isn't really true. Go to really conservative parts of Britain and they are disgusted by the nanny state. They just don't make up a large enough percentage of the population to put an end to it.
I have a relative in Britain who I went to visit a few years back, and their entire family thinks Britain has become an island of cowardly degenerates, more concerned with watching their neighbor in a state of constant paranoia than actually building something of their own.
Most countries, in the end, are brought down more by cowardice and risk aversion than anything else. We're seeing that in Europe today. Not all Europeans are like that though.
Of course. And I never said that they were all like that -- not even close. But these authoritarian sympathies are so pervasive there, so unbelievably prevalent, that any Brit, or Frenchman, or Spaniard, say, with a distaste for all that shit is absolutely powerless to change his situation (and, obviously, that of his useful-idiot neighbors), just like you said.
In many places there, sweeping generalizations are, in fact, truly representative of the state of things.
I don't know where in England you've been, but I'm honestly happy that you found people like that over there. My experiences (and there have been many) have all been negative -- often extremely negative.
Well, the people I met like that over there are all distant relatives of mine.
Maybe distrust for authority just runs through my family's genes.
It's a great trait to have. Unfortunately, lots of my extended family are progressives, especially the Russians in my family, although, conversely, the most rabid anti-authoritarians are in the OTHER "camp" of Russians in our little clan.
I had a bunch of econ professors in college who were from Eastern Europe. They were all rabidly anti-government. I guess having family members beaten by local goon squads makes you realize the consequences of the total state.
Unless you're one of those masochists. See those fanatical Stalinists on RT in Moscow the other week? How sick in the head do you have to be to think these people's reigns were anything but Satanic?
If you're speaking of Russian TV they, despite their giving reasonoids an outlet, are some bootlicking motherfuckers. If you wanna see some shit, check out their saccharin sweet North Korea documentary.
I know. That travel log bullshit they did on North Korea sickened me. Fuck RT.
"Look at all these happy, well-fed citizens and fully stocked stores that the government officials were kind enough to show us!"
*barf*
"Maybe distrust for authority just runs through my family's genes."
It's called intelligence and yes it's hereditary.
Most countries, in the end, are brought down more by cowardice and risk aversion than anything else. We're seeing that in Europe today. Not all Europeans are like that though
True, but it's rapidly becoming the norm. Part of it is nearly 2,000 years of being in some sort of state of war with each other that finally culminated in the Second World War. Part of it is an overall fascination with various iterations of marxism that seek to deny the inherent differences of various cultures while concurrently fomenting class conflict, which serves to undermine the vitality of their respective nations.
The EU is really the last gasp of the European managerial state, but on a continental level as opposed to a national one. Once it collapses (and it most certainly will, probably sooner than anyone expects), then Europe will quickly revert to the mean of inter-regional conflict that began after the fall of the western empire.
Try striking up a conversation with a Brit sometime, and tell him you carry a gun on your hip. If he doesn't threaten you with a call the police, dub you a moron Yank redneck, and tell you you're probably racist within 20 seconds, I'll pay you $50.
It's funny you say that. There's a PA gun owners' forum that I read and many people in the eastern part of the state have that same problem with transplants from NY (in that they actually call the police and are shocked when they find that carrying a gun is legal).
One thread was awesome. It was a guy that open carries whose new neighbors were from NY and proclaimed, "We moved here to get away from the guns!" HaHa.
They actually sent the wife's brother of the NYPD to hassle the guy.
Here's the thread, and the first post gives the story. Fucking people.
NYC Neighbor - My brother is NYPD, I'll send him over to discuss this with you when he gets here... I'm pretty sure the Salisbury PD will side with him when we report you brandishing a pistol....
Me - If your brother steps on my property and doesn't leave when I tell him to, he will be facing tresspassing charges....
NYC Neighbor - He's a cop, you can't get him for tresspassing....
------------------
What a fucking bootlicking cocksucker. Drop dead.
I would have closed the door on the cop brother on the spot. And told him to fuck himself, that he wasn't in fucking Bloombergistan anymore, and that if I ever saw him on my property again I'd shoot him dead on the spot.
OK, not the last because that would have serious fallout. But damn...you aren't in NYC, you aren't even in fucking NY state. How dare you make an official visit.
He did tell him to fuck off and that he was trespassing, which in PA is basically saying don't make any sudden moves. Our stand your ground law is very liberal (in the truest sense of the word).
If you read to the end of the thread, the neighbors eventually move away and friendlier people move in.
Good for him. I don't know if I would have been able to tolerate such assholes living that close to me.
missed op to plug pig
And the funny joke of it all is that said Brit won't even know that American liberty was solidly built on the "rights of Englishmen." The standard comprehensive justification for gun rights, in but not confined to the old U.S., was found in the works of the U.K. jurist Sir William Blackstone. That right included the right to defend oneself against criminals.
But then again...I'd be surprised if said Brit even knew who Blackstone was, let alone what he did.
Once the U.K. reaches its full decadence, it wouldn't be out of line to observe: "all they have left is their snootiness."
Nogt quite, but close. It isn't American exceptionalism that's galling - it's American exceptionalism combined with overall American success. As long as America is hegemon, it'll give the locals (as the Brits put it) "ideas." "Ideas" that there are better ways to run a country than the local elites are comfortable stewarding.
Fact is, in the olden high days of aristocracy, when America was new and Americans were fond of saying that Europe was the land of "luxury, avarice and vice" because Europe was relatively rich and America wasn't, American exceptionalism wasn't that much of a threat to foreign elites. Back then, those elites could afford to be curious about America and treat it (and its minimal government) as a New World curiosity.
Now that America is the place to watch, what used to be exotic is now a threat. Hence the foreign hectoring.
Eh, a vote may be a good thing. It eliminates the argument that Republicans are doing something "undemocratic" by preventing a vote. It forces some red-state Democrats to either defy Obama or risk losing their seats in 2016.
If that's true then they're paying for a gain for the republican party with (potentially) the American people's rights. The first AWB passed and gave the GOP tons of seats, but it only ended when the law sunsetted, and who knows if it would have ever been repealed. If it passes I don't see it being repealed, and I do see it opening the door for further legislation.
Also, keeping this shit alive just means more biased media coverage, hope for the antis, and time for the opposition to gather strength. I'd rather they didn't gamble with my rights and let this shit die the horrible, lonely death it deserves to die.
And the whole political chess, triangulation ain't gonna work for my senator, Pat "Tea Party" Toomey, because he fucking wrote the thing.
It may not even pass the Senate, and it sure won't pass the House.
(But then, I thought Obamacare would never pass, either.)
I was a kid at the time, but I do remember that no one thought the original AWB was gonna go through. It was hitched onto a bill with much more support (just like is happening now) and then everyone was shocked when it passed.
And even if it doesn't pass, why try it? You can kill it now, but you're not going to? Stoopid party is stoopid.
Not to mention that the longer this fight goes on the more the media is going to push for "measures to curb gun violence" and the more likely some sort of bill is going to get passed. Most people could care less about gun control and only think about it when whipped into hysteria by our fear-mongering media, why let the (anti-2nd amendment) media milk this thing for months on end?
The idea of selling the TVA has few supporters in Congress, said Representative Steve Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat, in an interview.
He and his Republican colleagues most often disagree on the "virtues of government." That's not so in this case, he said.
GET YOUR DAMN DIRTY HANDS OFF OF MY FREE STUFF!
Yeah, as my handle suggests, I'm familiar with the phenomenon. The one thing that gets the VA congressional delegation singing in perfect fucking harmony is a threat to defense spending, especially naval.
This has to be Obama trolling TEAM RED. If so, this is the first thing he's ever done that I approve of.
If they had any fucking brains at all, they would look through his budget, and pass the good stuff. Then watch him try to claim that its a holistic budget or some other stupid shit.
Except if they did something smart, they wouldn't be the Stupid Party.
"Except if they did something smart, they wouldn't be the Stupid Party."
Team Blue can and does get away with this sort of hypocrisy on a regular basis (see, oh, Obozo's entire time in office).
But that's 'cause the media is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Team Blue. Which is the same reason Team Red will be called on this bullshit.
Hey, don't forget, Obeyme also cancelled the Constellation boondoggle.
I'm curious why Obama would want to privatize anything and why the
Republicans would oppose him if he did. Maybe BO's strategy is to privatize something big that in a way that would cause millions of electric bills to skyrocket so that he turn around and bash greedy profiteers and privatization? Am I giving the guy too much credit?
Are they privatizing the whole TVA , or just the utility? That would be a huge transfer of public lands, seized from private owners, to new private owners. Not to mention a huge inland waterway. TVA likes to pretend they are private now so they can pay management 6-7 figure salaries.
OT: Who are these two dudes dressed in drag talking about liberty? Because, as we all know, there are no libertarian women!
I think there are a lot more women libertarians among under 30's than older age groups. Libertarianism was kind of a boys club until this last decade, but the ratios among people my age seem way more favorable than among older people.
How so? Mary Ruwart, Rose Wilder Lane, Isabel Paterson, Ayn Rand, Zora Neale Hurston, Wendy McElroy, this chick, etc.
I guess you're right. Although your last example was from 2009, which is within the last decade.
We also had the first woman to ever get a vote in the electoral college with Tonie Nathan. I guess you could also include Rose Friedman.
If I'm Gen-X, then she's (Anne Wortham) Gen-A.
That was a response to " Although your last example was from 2009, which is within the last decade."
Yeah, I didn't realize she was an old academic. This is why I should actually read the articles people post.
"This chick's" article is fucking great. She completely nails it.
I agree. That could not have been said better.
A capitalist sociologist? What next, leprechauns? Rainbow-farting unicorns? Just how far do you think my credulity stretches?
Ayn Rand?! Libertarian?!
She was one whether she liked it or not. Her hissy-fit over the naming rights, notwithstanding.
I'm not entirely convinced that Objectivism squares with Libertarianism. I'd say there's some overlap, but not enough to call them the same ideology.
You can add Sharon Presley.
There's this token libertarian girl's videos.
Some of her stuff is pretty good, more wacky than wonky.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: she has crazy eyes.
Here eyes are fine.
What's that accent? Is that normal for people to sound like that?
Midwest american, I'm betting Ohio.
What's strange is that to me the midwestern accent sounds like the canadian one, eh.
People in Ohio don't have accents.
Tha fuck they don't.
Half of my family is from Ohio and they sound like the girl in the video.
That's called english General. You're from Pittsburgh right? That's not english. That's an accent.
General American English.
I moved around quite a bit when I was a kid (including Ohio), so I have a teevee accent that has a couple yinzisms thrown in from my time here, she has an accent.
What I consider no accent is Dan Rather, does she sound like Dan Rather?
I'm from Columbus which is pretty indescript. We have a lot of appalacian transplants here and also throughout southestern ohio. I would not call that "Ohioan" though. it's basically hillbilly. As far as the girl in the video. With her wild inflections and crazy rubber mouth I'm not sure how you could pick up on any accent. "Overall" her punctuation did not seem all that off to me. My mom's side of the family is from Wisconsin and they defintely have some of that accent going on.

See
Pronounce Cincinnati with a final "ee" sound. Only non-Ohioans refer to it as Cincinnat-uh. (This is much like Missouri/Missour-uh.)
Who the fuck says "Cincinat-uh"
I was hoping for a she.
Southeners.
or Southen-uhs
Who the fuck says "Cincinat-uh"
WKRP in Cincinat-UH?
Dan Rather has a Texas accent. He tries to hide it, but when he speaks off the cuff you can hear it slipping out.
I thought people in Indiana spoke received American English.
AMERICAN ENGLISH DIALECTS (MAP)
I like how pittsburgh is it's own little dialect island, which is true.
Go 70 miles in any direction and the change in accent is marked.
THIS is the only map that matters when talking about regionalisms.
Everyone who says anything other than soda is a pinko commie bastard.
SODIEPOP
You're Canadian. We already know you're a pinko commie bastard.
It looks to me that the pinko-commie areas of the country correspond highly to 'soda' usage.
Check, and mate.
I've heard some places call everything coke no matter what it was.
My German exgirlfriend's mother used "Fanta" as the generic
That's Nazis for ya.
I call it coke and I'm from Illinois. There are only 800 people who call it coke in my state, out of 22,000 respondents.
I am the 3%.
That'd be Texas and the South. It's actually an item on the map. Soda, Pop, Coke and Other.
When I was a kid, some folks from Boston still referred to it as "tonic".
Oh my god, you poor thing. That's fucking horrendous.
Jesus.
I grew up calling it all coke... though I'm from California, living in Hawaii and Florida as well... who the hell knows....
No
Everyone who says anything but "coke" is a god damned Yankee.
No one likes a sore loser.
Who you calling a Yankee
What part of the country do you come from?
Because I imagine you sit down and order a "cosmotarian to drink, an appetizer of cosmotarian, and could I get my cosmotrarian with the cosmotarian on the side. Do your cosmotarians come with cosmotarians, because I'm allergic to cosmotarians?".
You haven't heard it called a "co-cola?" That's widespread in northeast GA.
Everyone knows the correct word is 'pop'.
'Soda' is a California word, and therefore, evil.
Do you want a coke?
Nuance in the extreme!
All the subtlety and grace of a 16lb sledgehammer.
That's fantastic - thanks
It was kinda scary when she whipped out the gun.
That was sweet
My wife fist pumped and said "fuckin' straight!"
Then a tear rolled down my cheek.
Nice.
You've chosen well.
Cathy and Marianne. Oh yeah.
So which was Kristen and which Nicole?
We've also got Dagny, that woman carol who shows up periodically...uh. Banjos. Someone named Kath showed up in a thread today to tell us how hilarious we are, and that might be short for Katherine.
That's like 6 right there!
There's also Susan M and someone named Spartan Girl (a lesbian I've only seen post once to destroy someone's argument, but it was in a dead thread)
It's bizarre. I know a lot of girl libertarians, but there aren't many women who post here.
Maybe Ken is right, and they get driven away by the thoughtless vulgarity of the H&R comment section.
Because women are delicate little flowers who will wilt upon reading certain words that have magic power?
I was joking. Ken's the one who thinks the C-word is girl kryptonite.
That's because Kendall is an uncultured rube who has never seen the Vagina Monologues.
who has never seen the Vagina Monologues
...speaking of kryptonite.
The anti-viagra.
Hey guys, (one of them thar mythical female posters here)it's not the vulgarity, it's that an inordinate amount of threads get hijacked with pro sports talk. That shit's boring.
That shit's boring.
I always just treat those threads like the monologues in Atlas Shrugged and skim until I find the end point.
WHOOOO! Another one! Up to 9.
...someone named Spartan Girl (a lesbian I've only seen post once to destroy someone's argument, but it was in a dead thread...
Unpossible. I'm guessing that any so-called libertarian lesbian is just vehicle for Episiarch to somehow, someway get his rocks off. I'd bet that if you google carefully there is some slashfic out there that centers upon an anarchist lesbian and her beautiful thin crust pizza eating, computer programming, video game playing girlfriend.
Epi is really Dr Krieger?
Nah, Epi likes skanks, Spartan came across as tough and intelligent, you know someone normal might be into.
Nah, Epi likes skanks...
How do you know this? Did he drug you and make you dress up as Ke$ha?
What a bastard.
Umm, made, sure...that's it.
Epi openly admits to skankphilia. Did you miss the whole ho-tarians vs jerk-tarians thing on Friday AM and PM links?
Did you miss the whole ho-tarians vs jerk-tarians thing on Friday AM and PM links?
Yes
You were there at least for the PM links.
Counterfly started a thread on anal that got overly specialized to the topic of rimming.
Throughout the day nicole decided that Epi didn't have the right to say I wasn't a ho, and declared us the "Axis of Ho."
SF defected to Axis of Ho.
By PM links the Axis of Ho had lebensraumed the Fertile Plains of Skank to put a crimp on the Axis of Jerk (consisting notably of Epi, who is crippled in his war efforts without precious precious skank).
I think conterfly had you all outflanked on the kink front:
Getting paid to remove wasps from his neighbors "back yard"? That's some shit there, son.
So, episiarch is like James Spader's character from White Palace, but doesn't have a dead wife to excuse his boorish behavior?
He probably has crawl space full of them
James Spaders?
Most people have spiders in their attic, episiarch has spaders.
HARHAR
Yeah, that's not Epi. If Epi were sockpuppeting and pretending to be a lesbian, I imagine her first sentence would be 'so I was in lingerie playing video games and thinking about Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory when my equally attractive girlfriend wandered into the room completely naked and started talking about that bitch Nicole.'
He doesn't have a good ear for dialogue.
Actually Epi is Warty's lesbian top.
All socks of Kristen and Nicole. Except maybe Banjos, but Sloop never lets her comment anymore. Too busy making mayo or something.
Not sure why women would care about politics anyways since they're not allowed to vote. God help us if they ever start voting. This country would go bankrupt.
No shit. They'd probably try to make beer illegal too.
Oh, who am I kidding, that'd never happen.
Senators looking out for their constituents? And this is news how?
It's not news at all. It's just that the TVA is literally a socialist construct of FDR. If the GOP isn't willing to privatize it, then they are supporting actual socialism.
Violent Brits you say?
Dude, it's Millwall, that was just their way of saying "Hello."
So, I guess there was a reason for calling it a "Millwall brick"?
I thought that didn't care that nobody likes them.
MILLWALL!
Millwall, the home of English football hooliganism.
Many Brits harbor a sharp, throbbing loathing of all things American
U still mad about 1776, bro?
Fuck you, English. Go brush your teeth or something.
We're just uncouth, uncultured simpletons whose nation has no history, according to these people.
Yeah, I'd say they're still mad about 1776.
Obama has privatized many publicly owned corporations (like AIG) but you TEAM RED players can't see it.
Re: Palin's Buttwipe,
They're part of his private collection? Or what are the voices in your head telling you know?
HAHAHAHAHA. AIG was 'publicly owned' as a result of a bailout from the financial crisis. It was intended to revert to a private company once the danger had passed. Obama just did what was originally supposed to happen.
Meanwhile, he took over GM and got the government even more heavily involved in the medical field.
This reminds me of when people say 'Obama got us out of Iraq!' when actually all he did was hold to the time table Bush had set.
After he tried to extend it.
Only on Bizarro Earth does bailing out a corporation count as "privatizing" it.
Got any more examples?
Geithner sold about $160 billion of AIG stock the previous administration had accumulated.
Palin's Buttplug| 4.13.13 @ 9:02PM |#
"Geithner sold about $160 billion of AIG stock the previous administration had accumulated."
So, dipshit, the government bailed after nationalizing it? And that's "privatizing" a company?
Go fuck your daddy.
You are quite a dandy with words.
Palin's Buttplug| 4.13.13 @ 9:26PM |#
"You are quite a dandy with words."
You're a target-rich environment, dipshit. Go fuck your daddy.
I love that you try to bring up shit you've ALREADY BEEN DESTROYED ON. It amuses me.
I'm convinced he has a bot that repeats the same three-four memes, and he just picks which one to use that day.
What happened to the Penguins game? A power outage? In Florida?
Feel the fear in the reporter's words:
Cheap American handguns are flooding Toronto streets.
If only Canada had gun control!
Awesome. We're like Canada's Mexico. "Horrible contraband produced to our south is being carried across our porous borders by smugglers!"
It's the exact same thing.
Uncle Jim Bob Macy's Sporting Goods & Hardware Store sold someone a gun, and that gun was taken across the border into Canada by a sinister libertard anarchist rebel rapist murderer. It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
WE SHOULD BAN AMERICANS!
/BLOC QUEBECOIS
We're like Canada's Mexico.
You should hear what they say in Nunavut.
Also Mexico despises Hondurans.
It is dismay with the South all the way down.
Where does that leave Antarctica?
Why do you think nobody lives there and no country claims it?
The reporters, posing as Canadians recently moved to Georgia, handed him $270 for a .25-calibre German pistol, a Deutsche Werke that would sell for as much as $2,000 in Toronto. Bob described it as a "poor man's James Bond" gun.
Dang, two thousand clams for that? Fuck. You could get ten for a glock, I bet.
So, if you're a pro-gun Canadian, you now know where to get really cheap firearms, right?
I doubt this was the article's purpose.
Wait, attempts to ban things makes them very very fucking expensive? No fucking way.
I was once approached by a drug dealer. I demurred, but asked if he had any guns to sell, out of curiosity. He had a shitty Taurus 92 clone, in fair to good condition, with one magazine, and he wanted 3 grand for it. I got him down to 2500, but no lower. That's probably five times the actual value of the gun.
Was this in the States?
Easy Virginian, you've got him hooked, now mind the drag and reel slowly and steadily.
Yeah, in Richmond.
Needless to say, I didn't buy the gun.
Bob did commit one crime though...
HE CALLED THE MAGAZINE A CLIP, GIT 'IM!
Did you see the reporter swinging the gun around in the car?
I call for the privatizing of Tennessee, period. Since it's already rated as the 3rd freest state in Murika, although the goalpost for liberty in Murika these days is only slightly higher than the belly of a grasshopper, why not start an experiment? Let's privatize TN, and make it completely autonomous of the federal gubmint. And then remove every single politician from every elected office, plus all of their appointed bureaucrats, and send them packing. Start with a clean slate. Soon as the slate is clean, every single Libertarian in the universe move there and begin our new experiment in liberty.
TN was the state that wanted to ban mosques and the "Constitution loving" Herman "Flava" Cain agreed with them.
Hey, shreek, tell us how the "Constitution loving" Obozo is trying to defend A2.
Please, we'd all love to hear it.
I doubt there is a single elected asshole in DC who honestly loves the Constitution.
Palin's Buttplug| 4.13.13 @ 9:32PM |#
"I doubt there is a single elected asshole in DC who honestly loves the Constitution."
And yet you still sing Obozos' praises!
There are a few believers. Rand Paul would be an exception. Otherwise this would be one of those rare occasions when I agree with shreek.
Agreeing is fine; the problem is Shreek continues to flog Obozo.
So which part of shreek's hypocrisy is worthy of agreement?
Is flog synonymous with having ones head embedded up a rectum?
Hyperion| 4.13.13 @ 11:20PM |#
"Is flog synonymous with having ones head embedded up a rectum?"
Hmm.
The general definition is analogous to 'promote'.
But this *is* shreek, so I'm guessing you are correct in your presumption.
Rex Murphy agrees:
Fuck. You. Turbo Tax.
If they fuck up your returns, will you be granted as much leniency as Tim Geithner?
I've been using Tax Act for ... since I started not filing my returns on paper, no probs yet.
First, there were the Scots who kept the Sabbath - and everything else they could lay their hands on;
Then there were the Welsh - who prayed on their knees...and their neighbours;
Thirdly there were the Irish who never knew what they wanted - but were willing to fight for it anyway.
Lastly there were the English, who considered themselves self-made men - thus relieving the Almighty of a terrible responsibility.
Fuck you, English.
Sounds like a pretty solid plan to me dude. Wow, I like it.

Me too, spambot...
Me too.
HAPPY SONGKRAN MUTHAFUCKAZ!!!!!
I didn't understands any of that shit. It's hard to listen from right to left.
Dude, are you Asian? Cause with a name like Heroic Mulatto, I think no....
East Asian? No. I'm part South Asian, that is India, by way of Trinidad and Tobago.
But the answer is, it's Thai New Year, and my wife is Thai.
"East Asian? No. I'm part South Asian, that is India, by way of Trinidad and Tobago."
And Lucy is the mother of us all. Anyone care to claim 'purity'?
(outside of some very few Africans)
Speaking of Lucy, she's writing for VICE now.
She has forsaken us nerds, geeks, and dorks.
So who exactly is the VICE demographic?
Nerds, geeks and dorks who think they're cool for reading VICE.
Oh Christ. Lucy is now the president of the Conor Friedersdorf fan club.
And speaking of things Thai, I've been trying to talk myself out of buying an Aranyik E-Nep, but those things seem damn near indestructable and I don't want to risk breaking my khukhri on camp tasks.
I've been trying to talk myself out of buying an Aranyik E-Nep
Damn, dude, that one great looking blade. I might have to have myself one those, and definitely have to tell send this link to my son-in-law, who is a very serious knife/sword collector.
Aranyik steel has a good reputation. I saw them all over Thailand and they are workhorses.
What kind of khukhri is it? If it's decently made it should be fine for most camp tasks. A lot of them are made from spring steel, specifically the leaf springs of old cars and trucks. Hard to wreck one unless you try real hard.
It's more sentimental value than anything. My best friend got it for me during a trip to Nepal. It's full tang and well constructed, and I've sharpened it well, but it's almost become like a totem to me. I'd feel like shit if I broke or lost it.
Oh, ok. Confused me since Trinidad and South Asia are worlds apart.
I guess I typically think of Mulatto as half black/half white. But I think you are saying you are half black/half Asian?
What happened is that when the British outlawed slavery, they still needed labor for their plantations. So, they imported a bunch of coolies from India (and China). On a small island full of White, Black, Indian, and Chinese people, they all began to fuck each other and eventually produced people like me and Nicki Minaj.
My mother is an American of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, my father was born in Trinidad, my paternal grandfather was half-Scottish and half-Indian, and my paternal grandmother was half-Scottish and Half-Black.
As I've mentioned before, I'm technically a Heroic Quadroon.
"My mother is an American of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, my father was born in Trinidad, my paternal grandfather was half-Scottish and half-Indian, and my paternal grandmother was half-Scottish and Half-Black."
That's GREAT!
What box do you check on the census form?
As many as I can. 🙂
Haha!
Wow. Myself, I'm just a boring ass whitey, of Welsh descent, nothing to see.
My wife is Brazilian, but her great grandmother was Italian and her great grandfather, German. Somewhere along that line, someone did lots of fucking around with the native Brazilians because she definitely looks sort of Italian or Latin, but with a darker olive colored skin, and Latin American type features, but with big green eyes. It works, I am a big fan of hybridization, (:
Indeed. Often countries that have histories of being a crossroads, also have a reputation for producing beautiful people. Take Lebanon and Syria, for example.
Have you ever been to Rio?
Man I love Brazilian women.
Maybe not as much as me, I married one after swearing off marriage, forever.
I still don't regret it at all.
Good for you man:)
Awww. It's nice to see that H&R can get all sweet and romantic once in a while.
Well, this is what H&R considers to be "sweet and romantic".
Awww. It's nice to see that H&R can get all sweet and romantic once in a while.
Don't you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
Not yet, but it's on the list.
The most beautiful people, on average, that I have ever seen.
The thing that really surprised me my first time there, in Rio, is how tall everyone is. I am serious, I am not a tall person, for a guy, I'm only 5' 9", and I swear, I have never felt so short anywhere.
We went to a club in Rio, named Rio Scenarium, that I highly recommend you go to. The place is rockin.
In the North East, where my wife is from, the women are also incredibly beautiful. If you don't believe me, just spend some time at Boa Viagem beach, or Porto de Galinhas. You will become a believer very quickly.
This is the exact opposite of Japan. My mom is 5'3" and went to Japan a few years back. She said it was awesome because she'd be on the train and could see over a lot of people's heads, which had never happened to her before.
In Korea the kids were all taller than I was and the old folks were all way shorter. Better living through capitalism.
North Koreans are on average 4" shorter than the average South Korean.
Oppression is a heavy load
This is the exact opposite of Japan. My mom is 5'3" and went to Japan a few years back. She said it was awesome because she'd be on the train and could see over a lot of people's heads, which had never happened to her before.
In Rio, she won't be able to see over anyone's navel who is more than 15 years old.
But don't worry, they don't seem to pay much attention to us gringoes, they're too busy having fun.
Most of Europe are really a bunch of mutts. With the history of invasions and conquests (celts, franks, germans, romans, brits, normans, vikings, slavs, etc., etc.) there was definately a lot of dna melding going on in the process.
Except Prague.
Why, are they all so ugly no one else would mate with them?
Uh, hardly
Well, not sure why your exception then. They're right in the middle of most historical shitstorms.
OH, i misread your intent.
here's a great exception
Is that a french man or an english woman?
That is Charles II of Spain, Holy Roman Emperor. Please pay your respects.
Is that the one with the lisp that is aped even to this day in educated spanish dialect?
I don't think Charles II was ever Holy Roman Emperor. Wasn't Leopold I Holy Roman emperor for Charles' entire life? I thought Charles was in the era of the Siege of Vienna and I know that Leopold was Holy Roman Emperor at the time.
I am corrected. He was just a king of Spain.
Now i eat humble pie
HAHAHA! I love when people post things about history and I've just read a book about it. I just got finished reading a book about the siege of Vienna which goes in depth about the Habsburg Royal line, so I was like 'He's wrong! I just read about this like 2 days ago!'
If people would only post things related to something I've just finished reading, I could convince you guys I was some sort of super genius.
I've been wrong 3 times now. I'm not a fan.
"He was just a king of Spain."
Well fuck him then
I'm certainly a fan of the Czech.
They were a dominant force whilst I was coming of age.
Speaking on behalf of The International Union of Schleppy, Tiny-Donged Men, we object to your link.
I'm sorry GBN, I'll try to only post pictures of the frumpy and modestly endowed from now on.
What about frumpy and freakishly well endowed. He feels pain too. (photo reasonably SFW)
NO MORE JON HAMM PICS
You know, when you assume you make an ass out of u and me...or something like that.
John Hamm pics are always paired with reference to the terrible thunder lizard that lurks below his waistline. Also, Jon Hamm is not frumpy, he's well put together.
And his penis could be used as a deadly weapon.
Do you ever wonder if the article authors come in the next morning and go "How the fuck did and article about the TVA devolve into commentary on John Hamm's assault penis!?" I mean Shackford, 2-chili, and Welch dive into the comments, so you know they're seeing it, but will John K Ross?
All I know is that Postrel wouldn't of put up with all this John Hamm's penis talk in her comment thread.
too late GBN, I'm already drunk
Well you know Jesse, it's pretty obvious that this was a high brow conversation completely devoted to the topic at hand before you started with the sausage fest. So I'm quite sure they'll blame you.
Don Draper says What?
Not to mention the remnants of Neanderthal DNA.
Brazilian wives FTW!
Note to anti-war libertarians: Libertarianism is considered one of those evil American imperialist ideologies by many anti-Americans. Look at the UK and Canada for example. Of course they are TEAM BLUE fans but hey it's not like the leftist ideology is based on anything remotely resembling the real world.
And? I don't understand why I should care if random Brits think I'm an imperialist when I know I'm not.
Didn't we just kick the shit out of those Limeys, only a couple hundred years ago? Do they want it again?
A couple hundred years ago?
Do you think we could convince them to come back and finish the job?
Well according to Stephan Kinsella the US should rejoin Britain right now and all of the UK's problems are due to the colonials rebelling. A bit of strange attitude for an "anti-Imperialist."
God, some of those people who write for Rockwell are fucking crazy.
Yeah. I mean it's one thing to suggest the American Revolution wasn't all that libertarian and that the US is screwed right now but it is whole different thing to suggest that US should rejoin the UK.
And blaming the UK's problems on American Independence? Seriously?
Blaming the UK's problems on American independence raises the interesting question of why they remained a major power for 180 years after we won independence.
Apparently the disease of American independence took a while to gestate.
My idiot California cousins blamed Reagan's time as governor of CA for the rolling blackouts that were in reality caused by the price controls instituted by leftists.
Don't even get me started with that shit. The leftists could institute a Communist government in California and any failure would be blamed on the one Republican they haven't sent to the gas chamber yet.
My personal favourite is a Bill Bonner on Rockwell saying that American independence was a mistake because London is such a nice place. So I guess the Iraq war would have been okay if DC got rid of all the crack houses? And does that mean that the Indians, Africans and the Irish were wrong to want independence as well?
Same guy also said that if the US had remained in the Empire then the Germans wouldn't have wanted to go to war against the UK in 1914 because of US industrial capacity. Wow! So anti-war! So anti-Empire!
Not to mention this assumes that the US economy would have developed the same way under the Colonial Office and that the US would still include the Louisiana Purchase, Texas, Oregon and California.
Some?
Almost two hundred years is a couple ain't it?
I read some awesome Canadian propaganda about the War of 1812 before I left to go to Niagara. American colonialists might as well have been Huns in the text I read.
Probably a decent counterpoint to American historical bias, but it was still a bit surreal reading it.
I remember the first time seeing Pravda in high school or just out of. It was hilarious to see United States prefaced with emperialst every single time it was mentioned. Sad thing is that today American new media worse than Pravda ever was.
Oh man, I still love Pravda. It's tabloid taken to the extreme with ranty anti-americanism for good measure.
I really expected to see a large picture of a shirtless Putin riding a stallion. I'm glad it wasn't.
Even better I get the top 100 Russian ladies.
And speaking of hot brazilian women. Probably NAFW.
http://english.pravda.ru/photo/album/7195/7/
Haha, you should go all sarcasmic with pravda posts and see how that goes over.
Also, that's a much better easter bunny than the ones I remember as a child.
^^^ Hahaha. I'm totally going to do that. I normally don't make it to AM links, but I should try to get on there in the morning and just go crazy with Pravda posts.
Maybe get a few weekenders to reply to the posts earnestly just to mess with the AM linkers.
I have some things this week that may force me to be awake for AM links.
Seems legit.
Dude, I read that whole fucking thing and have no idea what he was talking about. It was like stepping into the mind of a crazy person for 10 minutes.
What do you mean?
If you can't figure out what this means, clearly you're just a puppet of the zionist conspiracy.

Sarcasmic vs John
Sarcasmic won't like her because she has boobs.
I don't like her because she has Bill Cowher Jaw.
I do think this attitude leads to most of the dictator fellating of Rothbard and Co.
Yeah, Rothbard and Lew Rockwell both fall into that sometimes. To be fair, sometimes libertarians will be called pro-dictator when actually they're arguing in favor of a dictator compared to another leader.
Hayek gets accused of being pro-Pinochet, when actually he just preferred Pinochet to Allende. That's not really being pro-Pinochet.
You are being too kind so I'll just go ahead and put my finger on the other side of the scale. Lew Rockwell is a fucking loon. He is crazier than a shithouse rat, he is daffier than his more famous duck cousin. The man plain and simple hates America. I have tried to figure out if it is because he takes anarcho-capitalism to its most extreme, but that can't be so, because as has been noted, he fellates dictators on a regular basis. Is it because he's an anti-Vatican II Catholic and thinks the Pope should be regularly address unbelievers as heretics and the damned? Or is it because he's a neo-Confederate waterboy and is butthurt that women and darkies are allowed to get uppity?
All that being said, here's some Rockwell in his own truly strange words:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/blo.....29113.html
Yeah, he makes Pat Buchanan look reasonably sane. Which is quite a feat.
Rockwell is the fucking worst. I love the Rockwell hatred on Reason, because whenever I read anything that man has written it always makes me sad that he claims to have the same political views that I do.
He wrote pro-Chavez articles because Chavez 'stood up to U.S. imperialism.' Being in favor of a violent, authoritarian socialist is about as unlibertarian as anyone can get.
Lew also seemed to jump full on the Thatcher hate train quoting Greenwald and Ted Rall favourably.
Raimondo for his part actually made a reasonable libertarian attack on her.
Also pretty sad that Reason's response to that Politico article a few days ago on Ron Paul was better than what Rockwell wrote.
Sad but typical. Rockwell is a flaming banana. I don't know why anyone listens to him.
It's all those coal-burning power plants employing government unionists that make TVA embarrassing to the Obama regime. So they have to sell off the plants and sell out the employees just before they close the coal-burners because of "pollution."
Never mind that Tennessee has neither the sunlight now the wind to replace these generating plants on the electric grid - and the government shut down TVA hydro-electric dams years and years ago.

The TVA once put out TV ads (somwhere in the late 90s/early aughts) to the effect of "waste all the electricity you want, we'll make more". I guess they were trying to parody Doritos, but it was idiotic coming from a gov't utility.
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job Ive had. Last Monday I got a new Alfa Romeo from bringing in $7778. I started this 9 months ago and practically straight away started making more than $83 per hour. I work through this link, mojo50.com
