Maryland Town Considering Lowering the Voting Age
Trying to get more people to vote
When it comes to local elections, 18 may be the worst age to be a first-time voter. Whether heading off to college or moving to a new town for a job, the odds of getting an 18-year-old to care about who is going to be higher or president or council member Are not good.
In an effort to get more young people Involved with elections, Takoma Park, Md., is Thinking About Lowering the voting age for local elections to 16. In doing so, They are wading into a discussion That has been echoed ever Throughout The country since the 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18 in 1971.
