This week the Obama administration showed off its new strategy for protecting America's flora and fauna from climate change. Said David Hayes, Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Interior: "Fish and wildlife or plants, our land, our habitat, is not just something we feel good about because we like nature, but in fact they're providing a lot of services to us - jobs, recreational opportunities, we're seeing that they provide wonderful protection from storm surges, that the wetlands are filtering our water, providing clean water."

Swamp water is now clean water apparently, at least on Planet Clown. And the succubus never mentioned 'endangered species' once in his string of words, again while loving him some clean swamp water. Who, outside the Fed, still buys our bonds? They are suckers.

Wetlands do filter water. That's not an "environmental wacko" stance, it's just something that happens.

The microbes and plants present do a great job cleaning out the shit that people dump in before it gets to he ocean. I know a guy out west who provides vegetation mats to people that they can toss in a lake or drainage/irrigation channel to clean it out. When it's clean, harvest the mat and use it for fuel and fertilizer, or just keep growing the mat. It's actually a fascinating job.

Thing is, we had TONS of wetlands that cleaned our rivers just fine until the gov't started channelinzing rivers with the levee program back in the 1800s. Now we've got no wetlands and Louisiana is washing out into the Gulf of Mexico. The head of the Corps of Engineers at the time said it'd be an ecological disaster, for which he was promptly fired. So I don't think I'll be trusting these people to "save the wetlands."
