Barack Obama arrived in Tel Aviv today for his first visit to Israel as president.
Why go anywhere you're not adored?
Well he just wanted a good bagel before heading over to Palestine.
The protesters also set fire to signs posted in the city earlier this week reminding Obama that Palestinians still don't have 3G communications technology.
WTF?
Maybe he's bringing them Obamaphones.
Also, they want HBO and Showtime.
"Jew see what's on HBO these days?"
/Woody Allen
"We came here today to tell Obama that we don't want 3G in Palestine," said Samir Odeh, a Fatah activist in Bethlehem.
Well OK then. I am sure we can proudly proclaim that we will not provide any wireless support for Fatah!
Well, SLD applies, but the single most effective thing we could probably do to advance liberty would be setting up a global satellite Internet system that anyone could access.
I've long said that since our government is hell bent on spending $3.5T annually (in the short term), they should spend it on bringing decent broadband to rural America instead of wars in far away lands.
Because Windstream sucks.
Palestinians think Obama's god too.
He is picking up his Presidential Medal of Distinction Award from Israel.
well, being the POTUS who hates Israel is quite the distinction.
Why should he get an award for being second? Jimmy Carter rode that into the ground before Obama was ever elected.
What higher qualification does POTUS need than an unconditional love of Israel?
I think something about fidelity to a dead irrelevant document is on the list somewhere above foreign entanglements. I'd review it, but it's written in the language of White Privilege, which I have eschewed for the benefit of mankind.
Reading documents written by slave-owners is just a tacit approval of slavery. I applaud your ethics.
He had to go to Tel Aviv because the White House erased Jerusalem from its maps.
The White House has released what it says is a map of Israel. The only problem is that Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the Golan Heights are missing.
Oops, sorry!
I am assuming that 'his first visit to Israel as president' means that He now considers Himself the president of Israel.
The Department of Public Instruction in Wisconsin has been combatting "white privilege" in the classroom by explaining how white people are racist.
A white person better not get promoted for having this idea.
Turns out they were 1/32nd Native American, so it's all kosher.
Elizabeth Warren was in WI?
I guess you didn't see the 1 in the numerator?
Why? Did someone report an odor of lilacs and moral rot?
lilacs and moral rot
Nice band name.
We prefer the term "Person of Colorlessness."
your comment is a transparent attempt to make light of the situation in WI
What you did there? I see it.
What you did there... I saw through it.
Augh!
That crackered me up!
That remark was beyond the pale.
I'm gonna chalk this subthread up to childishness.
Yeah, we just need to whitewash the whole thing.
It's nothing a little bleach won't cure.
Haha.
WHITEY!!!!!
Damn you!
Ugh. Not you sloopyinca.
I suggest using bleach.
Lighten up on the guy, he has a dark sense of humor.
Or, "Pigmentationally Challenged".
Person of Pallor.
Ima go with this.
+1 subthread
Its spring in FL and I'm of northern European descent, so I'm pink right now, not white.
I tried to use my "White Privilege" at the grocery store yesterday and they told me "Get to the end of the line honky!"
Does anyone know where I can redeem my "White Privilege Points"?
Capital One has no restrictions on using your points. At least that's what Alex Baldwin says.
I keep waiting for my White Privilege to come in the mail, but it never arrives.
You're obviously not doing it right. When you get to the check-out line, tell the clerk that you need your "White Person Checker", and they'll open up a special lane just for you.
The Department of Education's sequester cuts are taking a brutal toll on federally-funded schools on Native American reservations, but the federal agency still found money to create a new six-figure job promoting "Educational Excellence for African-Americans."
Maybe if the BIA hadn't blown all the tribes' money, the tribes could afford to run their own schools.

So is this a garden variety crook, a random killing, or the first shots fired in Bleeding Colorado?
Bleeding, Colorado is not a real city, but it should be.
Isn't Colorado much like California in that the for-profit prison/industrial complex has lots of rich opportunities for corruption? I wouldn't necessarily assume some ex-con shot the guy, I would look into who all might be connected to any secret bank accounts the guy had. It wouldn't surprise me to find out the guy had some 'business partners' who use debt-collectors who make housecalls.
The AP says though Paul omitted the point that appeared in the prepared remarks, he confirmed the position afterward.
THIS IS A WORSE GAFFE THAN TAKING A SIP OF WATER DURING A NATIONAL SPEECH.
He was sure to remember the point when he kidnapped that poor woman and made her worship Aqua Osiris.
I though it was Damp Zorastor?
I googled it and it turned out it was Moist Zuul.
Executive authority derives from a mandate from the people, not some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Hasn't he since converted to Clammy Christ? He did go to Baylor, after all.
Clammy Christ - a savior for the chilly?
Or the messiah for bivalves?
Ah, I might have been confusing him with Soggy Zeus.
He thought she was the gatekeeper?
John concurs.

I'm still disappointed.

You can repaint a junkyard car any pretty color you like, but in the end you still have a broke-ass car.
Even red?!
Yes, even red. Sorry.
Even firetruck red?
Not even if you put a dalmatian next to it.
To be fair, she seems to know that.
"Wherever I had gone, I was sure to find myself there."
Which sucks if you don't like yourself, I suppose. I'm not afflicted with this particular problem, so I wouldn't know. Maybe one of you self-hating low self-esteem neurpotics can chime in on this. Epi?
But she doesn't seem to connect it back to it being why she was overweight to begin with. She acts as if they were completely unrelated conditions. It's just a pet peeve that comes with dealing with other diabetics, like my aunt, who eats an entire box of chocolate covered cherries in a single sitting, then complains about her weigh and how much insulin she takes.
It's very simple, Sug. Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels, but if you don't feel thin...NOM NOM NOM
Speaking personally, lots of shit tastes as good as thin feels, hence the extra 25 pounds.
Cheese is my kryptonite. St. Andre triple cream... [drool]
"Cheese is my kryptonite.'
When the old commercials exhorted me to "Behold the power of cheese"...I did so. I am still in thrall to the magnificence of cheese.
St. Andre triple cream
No sugar, no carbs. Shouldn't be a problem.
Bacon. Bacon tastes better than thin feels.
But she doesn't seem to connect it back to it being why she was overweight to begin with.
She doesn't know why she was overweight to begin with.
I think one of the issues is that people have different mechanisms for dealing with stress and major events. Once someone learns to deal with their problems with food or drugs or whatever than it becomes hard to unlearn that because we are mostly creatures of habit that live out a great part of our days on autopilot. At first the eating or drinking works for them. It does relieve the stress. Then they begin to rely on it. It doesn't take long before it stops working and becomes a problem in and of itself. Unfortunately, something in the back of their mind keeps taking them back to the time when it did work for them and made them feel better. So when they get busy and stressed they go into that autopilot mode and they fall back on those bad habits. They convince themselves that they don't give a shit and hit the bar or the buffet. That's why people can successfully lose weight over a long period of time and then gain it back once they hit a rough spot. Their brain is basically looking for an excuse to seek that stress relief. One thing that often happens is that exercise will replace their stress relief mechanism. (cont)
Often when people get overloaded with problems, those problems cause time constraints and exercise is the first thing that goes out the window. They think that ok I'll start back and run a little harder once I deal with this problem. Unfortunately though the dropping of the new stress reliever makes the desire to go back to what worked before that much greater. There is obviously an element of willpower (for some more than others) but it's certainly more complicated than just that. Many overweight people show great willpower in other aspects of their lives and in fact are quite successful . And of course it's not like for six months or a year they have willpower while losing weight and then the next day they don't have willpower. There's always something else going on there that makes them pick up that drink or bag of chips. It's not just lack of knowledge or lack of willpower. If endorphins came in a little pill they would be addicted to that instead.
On the one hand, we've got an "epidemic" of "obesity" (sneer quotes intended), but when popular culture promotes thinness, that's just evil.
"Promoting thinness" is like promoting going to a resort in a secret location. They show you plenty of pretty pictures, but you can't find good directions of how to get there.
Eat less, exercise more.
I'm repeating myself, but I have had great success over the last four months with cutting out "seconds" and snacks and limiting myself to an average of one drink a day. (Sometimes I save up for a week so I can get really, really blasted.)
You get hammered off 7 drinks? But otherwise, yeah, it's a really simple formula. The issue isn't with understanding what you have to do, it's with having the willpower to do it.
Well, not that lite beer shit you drink.
I really only drink Lights at tailgates.
I'm repeating myself,
And I congratulate you on that.
Cutting down can work to the extent that it reduces the intake of alcohol, sugar and starches. Losing 20 pounds was simply not clinically significant for me when I was 360+ pounds.
Eat less, exercise more.
For the obese, you may as well tell them to cut off their left leg to lose weight. Even if they could do it, it wouldn't be helpful. I know, I used to be one of them.
Fuck that. Exercise right, eat right. You want to get healthy, which is not thin, but toned. Eat clean food, cut the carbs to fruits and veg.
Exercise right, eat right
Was that suppsed to be a link?
Shit. Fuck you squirrels. Yes.
Well, for someone who is overweight, exercising right probably means exercising more, and eating right probably involves eating less.
Well, for someone who is overweight, exercising right probably means exercising more, and eating right probably involves eating less.
Nope. I lost weight eating more and exercising less. No kidding. Everything in your body is controlled by hormones. In the case of weight gain, by insulin. If you promote insulin production, you promote weight gain.
Binging and purging is also a good way to lose weight.
An Obama voter, no doubt.
What gave it away, the flamboyant hair color or the trashy tats?
Jonah Goldberg: Fusion Power on the Right
Conservatives and libertarians have always agreed more than disagreed.
http://www.nationalreview.com/.....h-goldberg
Except libertarians, like, mean it.
They can sucker in a LOT more votes by pretending to agree with us, than by actually agreeing with us.
Libertarians have no power that they must hang on to, so they can actually believe in their own principles and stuff.
This.
But the basic point is also why liberaltarianism had no chance.
You can find economic conservatives who will meet half way or at least a 1/4 way on civil rights. Buckley favored drug legalization. Scalia votes with Ginsberg on procedural court issues. Warren is criticizing her GOP opponent for supporting pot.
Assuming you can even find a strong civil liberties progressive, can you find one that will meet us half way on economic issues?
Seriously, I'd settle for a Democrat Deng Xiaoping at this point. The idea that a dynamic, growing economy is a natural feature is sunk deep into their little brains. They never think the golden goose will die, no matter how many laws and regulations they lay on top of it.
Assuming you can even find a strong civil liberties progressive, can you find one that will meet us half way on economic issues?
But is that a reflection of the fact that dems control senate and executive branch or something more fundamental? I don't recall lots of conservatives making the case for libertarian economic principles when the controlled senate/house and executive government.
But is that a reflection of the fact that dems control senate and executive branch or something more fundamental? I don't recall lots of conservatives making the case for libertarian economic principles when the controlled senate/house and executive government.
The difference is the Dems suck even when entirely out of power. Like with the GOP on the economy, the Dems get better on civil liberties when out of power.
But they still suck on economics.
Or, an easier way to look at it: Who is the democratic Justin Amash in the House? Who is the democratic Rand Paul in the Senate?
The GOP sucks hard, but the Dems are worse.
There is a tariff on foreign shoes that exists simply to keep New Balance in business.
A good economist understands that that tariff hurts many more Americans than it benefits. By forcing everyone to pay more money for a pair of shoes, they then have less money to buy other things. But that is unseen.
Proponents of the tariff argue that ending it would cost American jobs, and that the shoe stores wouldn't pass the savings onto consumers. They'd just give more profits to rich people.
So who will win an election? Some libertarian who promises to save everyone a few buck on a pair of shoes, or their opponent who accuses them of wanting to kill American jobs and give more profits to the rich?
Wait, so are you telling me my New Balance shoes are soiled by cronyist statism.
shit.
If you made that a litmus test for everything you bought, you wouldn't be left with much to buy.
Yeah but I mean you can choose the lesser of two evils.
A gun company who says "fuck you, get a warrant" when asked for purchasing records is going to get my business over someone who offers to fellate the officers as they go through the company database.
So I take it you're not planning to purchase anything from Red Jacket?
Those guys positively gag on cop cock.
Oh, sarc, I don't think I've ever seen them gag.
Yeah Nikki, you're right. They do deep throat without so much as a flinch.
Are those the guys on that TV show? Don't they make a lot of NFA weapons?
Yes and yes.
Well, only the government can buy newly built machine guns. They know where their bread is buttered, that's all.
They do. It's just still pretty gross to watch.
Their faces go all flaccid and shit when they deal with law enforcement. The same kind of expression you expect to see when a guy is watching porn.
That is hilarious but not inaccurate.
Yeah I will continue to not watch it then.
One of the awesome things about this last gun brew up is watching all these companies finally do the math and realize that, unless you're selling MGs, the civilian market is much much larger then either the military or LEO market.
If you piss off the ten million or so hardcore gun owners, they won't buy your shit. I know people who still won't buy Ruger because of what Bill Ruger said. Or SW because of their deal with the devil in the 90s.
I am new to all this. Can you fill me in on what Ruger and S&W said/did?
Back in the 90s, Bill Ruger said something like "no one needs more then five rounds". This was when the AWB was in effect, so the AR was not the American Rifle that is to today, but kind of a fringey thing in the minds of many gun owners.
SW cut some kind of deal with the Clinton administration. I can't remember what it was off the top of my head, but it pissed off a lot of people.
Nowadays of course, both companies are big into the CCW market.
You'd be as naked as our dear Emperor Obama.
I think you SF'ed the link. Shouldn't it be to evidence of the tariff, and not to the company's home page?
Is this better?
This one is even better!
By forcing everyone to pay more money for a pair of shoes, they then have less money to buy other things. But that is unseen.
Citing New Balance probably isn't the best example. The ones I'm wearing now are cheaper than the Reeboks I wore in high school 20 years ago.
It popped into my head because it was in the news recently. Their factory is in my state, so the papers were filled with editorials about how ending the tariff would kill the jobs, while the evil profit mongering capitalist retail shops would pass the difference to rich share holders instead of customers.
Conservatives (not the same thing as Republicans) also mean it. We diverge from them primarily on the social issues.
As a former conservative, the economic arguments of these social issues (like drug reform) are what moved me to the Libertarian camp.
Conservatives lean towards mercantile economic policy, protective tariffs and such, which is not very libertarian.
I'd be hard-pressed to tell you the difference, if any, between the conservative and libertarian positions.
_____
Except in practice.
Well, defense spending is not economics. It's faerie money from the Bright Realms.
So, we just need to enslave more leprechauns to increase the defense budget?
Finally, someone understands.
The DoD proudly announces the new position of Undersecretary for Leprechaun Resource Extraction and Utilization (USD-LREU).
'Human Resources'
anagrams to
'Manure choruses.'
He is wrong.
To a LARGE swath of the political right in America, including a majority of the Republican Establishment "Free markets" means pro business policies and regulations which protect established businesses and industries against newcomers.
When a libertatrian thinks "Free Markets" the needs of businesses are not considered, only the rights of individuals.
Yes. I think he is comparing libertarians and libertarian Republicans. No surprise that there's a lot of overlap between the two. If you feel 'hard-pressed' to see the difference between libertarian and conservative positions, take a look at the Bush position on the GM bankruptcy as a typical example of a conservative position. Or virtually any pro-business position - it's almost always anti-free-market.
Conservatives, such as National Review founder William F. Buckley, pushed libertarians out of the their movement during the 50's because they were not sufficiently anti-communist. Buckley hated Rothbard.
Now the NR wants them back, apparently.
Goldberg rightly rejects the traditional analysis of fusionism as some kind of odd-couple alliance between incompatible factions. Instead, he points out, it's a philosophical position derived from the best in the American tradition - the idea that freedom and virtue are inseparable, and in fact are parts of the same thing.
Contrary to the traditional analysis, It's the *philosophy* of fusionism which has proved enduring and the political alliance of libertarians and socons which has regrettably broken down. We have socons suggesting federal takeovers of education for the sake of virtue, wars on people who grow certain plants, wars abroad to spread democracy, etc, all of which undermine morality as well as liberty. On the other hand we have libertarians sneering and rolling their eyes at traditional moral rules, especially in the area of sex, and suggesting that the reason to legalize extramarital sex, porn, etc. is not philosophical commitment to freedom, but simply because these things are cool and nifty.
The link between, say, extramarital births and the growth of statism seems to be a matter which libertarians don't focus on.
That is great comment Eduard.
I bet you say that to *all* the commenters.
Bloomburg was right!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....laims.html
That doesn't even count drownings and straw impalements.
Boy do I hate "public health" advocates, who almost always turn out to be advocating not for health but for government control.
Who's worse, the public health types, or the "medical ethicists"?
Who's worse, the public health types, or the "medical ethicists"?
DO ethicists get to make regulation/policy? If not, my vote is that public health types are the worst.
How on Earth can they claim to know that it was sugary drinks and not a combination of factors, like eating too much crap and not exercising?
Heck, if they can pinpoint things that accurately, why stop there? "It was Pepsi!"
The Harvard researchers scrubbed data from a 2010 Global Burden of Diseases study on the consumption levels of sugar-sweetened drinks to measure global intake.
The results revealed that geography may have an impact on how sugary drinks affect certain populations.
Of nine world regions, Latin American and Caribbean countries had the most diabetes-related deaths associated with sugary drinks, while East and Central Europe/Asia claimed the most heart-related deaths.
This is just outright bullshit. Epidemiological studies like this are rife with correlations that have no unique causative variable.
Fat people eat and drink lots of fattening stuff, which is bad for you.
Sugary drinks are fattening stuff.
Therefore, sugary drinks kill fat people!
Only a fag would pull passive-aggressive shit like that.

It will be the best will be if the Housing Association ends up being the more intolerant party.
The best practice is probably to ignore the Westboro dicks, but I thought that was pretty funny.
The best action would be for a grieving family member to kill all of them when they're inciting violence at a funeral.
Followed by
a) the local prosecutor using his discretion to not prosecute or
b) a unanimous not guilty verdict at trial.
Not to defend Westboro Baptist, but I've never heard of them inciting violence. Can you elaborate?
From what I understand, their main purpose is to incite people to violence against them and then sue them.
It's really pointless SWPL status-signaling more than anything substantive. They might as well have painted the characters from My Little Pony on the house.
Brony Haus.
Aaaaaaaaaauuggghhh! What was he thinking?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....-year.html
An 18 year old male in that situation is not thinking with his big head.
Yeah, you'll pretty much stick it in anything at that age. Wind blows. Must find hole somewhere.
This is why I don't understand why some women seem proud of the "cougar" moniker. It's probably far easier for a 40 year old woman to find a 20 year old man to have sex with than it is for her to find a 40 year old man to have sex with.
When you're trying to figure out what goes on in the mind of a woman you've already lost.
At trivia last night someone brought a friend who is 32. She could get me to have sex with her pretty much instantly (though being witty and redheaded helps).
If the current gf doesn't work out, I'd like an introduction.
First I have to see how serious an obstacle one of her comments was. Another person on our team mentioned not being alive when a movie in one of the questions came out in the mid-late 80s. This prompted the redhead to ask "How young are you?" to the 25 year old (e.g. older than me)...
Honestly, she sounds stupid, if she's 32 SHE was born in the 80's, so the idea that someone else is a few years younger shouldn't blow her mind.
Maybe she just thought he was older based on his appearance and vocalized it.
I've asked women the same thing when they said something similar and I thought they were older based on their appearance.
That might be a possibility. The 25 girl, myself, and the friend that invited her all work at the same company, which typically only hires master's and above. If she knew that, she might have expected all the younger ~2 year vet employees to be about her friend's age (28). But I finished my master's at 22, so that math's a bit off.
I'd be happy if that was the reason she asked.
"At trivia last night someone brought a friend who is 32. "
This appears to be one of those times when you don't understand what's being discussed.
Seriously. I mean tutoring in anatomy, doing some after school gym training, demonstrating how the first olympics were, posing for each other for an art project.
And these are all just off the top of my head.
Ten years on the sex offender registry for having sex with a consenting adult? WTF?
A different standard applies when one party is in a position of authority over the other.
IOW "adult" doesn't mean shit.
Except for interns.
And shouldn't that law then preclude police and other government officials who wield power over people from ever having sex at all?
Within their warped worldview, isn't this blaming the victim?
"Prosecutors say Adams had sex with an 18-year-old boy last year."
So, in other words, with a consenting adult. Why can't people mind their own fucking business?
No, he was an inmate at a state child-prison where she served as a guard and prerehabilitator. There is a potential coercive element there.
0/10. Do not want. Would not hit with baseball bat.
Turn her over to STEVE SMITH?
Why should food stamps pay for junk food?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....story.html
such limitations would entail a change in habits
Like, maybe, selling your vouchers for cash and using the cash for unapproved food?
That would be a change?
Unfortunately in Green Bay those wishing to use the services Beach Road Liquor store will find their food stamp swap program temporarily out of business because the hard working immigrants Gurnek and Gurdeep Basanti and their daughter Simarjot are temporally out of business.
http://www.greenbaypressgazett.....ck_check=1
interesting that these people are also victims of a hate crime according to the article (they are sikh). Some dude tried to burn their cash register up with gasoline.
"""Parrish was charged with a hate crime because the Basantis are Sikh Americans."''
Is it automatically a hate crime just because they are Sikh's? Wow, that is even better then White Privilege.
Why should they pay for anything?
It's a safety net!
A safety hammock?
They're extremely irresponsible if they're advocating a carb-laden diet, which is what they seem to be doing.
I'm not losing much sleep over this idea. When you take govt money, you are accepting certain conditions. Some will probably sell their cards, which isn't all that surprising or all that new.
I hear you, but I also think this is a harbinger of things to come. Your behavior must be controlled because you accept government-funded healthcare.
I've always said, if we've gotta have welfare, end all the stupid programs and the attempts at social engineering and just write 'em a check.
If more "progressives" were more about helping people than about power, more "progressives" would agree with me.
Join the off-world colonies.
And it would be lower protein and more expensive! There's literally no downside!
Yeah, more carbs (fiber) and less fat, what could go wrong...
This has been my argument all along. That welfare of whatever type doesn't subsidize what it's intended to subsidize, but other shit that the person wants and couldn't afford sans welfare.
SNAP, for example, doesn't enable poor people to buy food, it allows them to buy cigarettes and liquor they otherwise couldn't afford instead of using that money on food.
the IRS did not calculate how much Obamacare regulations would cost small businesses in dollars and hours, as required by a 1981 law.
How dare they deprive us of numbers at which we can all laugh?
A government agency breaking the law in the name of political expediency?

Obama Will Use Nixon-Era Law to Fight Climate Change
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/.....hange.html
This should be entertaining. The CAGW cult's usual methods of suborning or silencing opposition ain't going to work here. These people aren't going to roll over without a fight.
Global warming impact evaluation statement before approving a highway.
Oh for fuck's sake. When are they going to roll this down to your locla planning commissions?
Shouldn't someone have to first provide proof that any of these activities have an effect on global climate in the first place?
You just need to check your privilege
They call it the precautionary principle. Once again, we see how supposed progressives revere stasis and fight change at all costs.
The precautionary principle needs to be invoked for all prospective legislation/regulation.
That's not how it works Ted. The precautionary principle is invoked when it benefits them, and ignored when it doesn't. So it's proper to use it to enforce sweeping changes to fight global warming, but it's not proper to object to these sweeping changes in the name of the precautionary principle.
Has anybody applied the precautionary principle to the precautionary principle?
If the precautionary principle has a suspected risk of causing harm to the public or to the environment, the burden of proof that it is not harmful falls on those seeking to apply the precautionary principle.
They did provide 'proof'. Their scientifically arrived at religious documents say so.
It's ironic that Margaret Thatcher's cute little idea to help stick a knife in the coal miners' unions by giving money to a bunch of superstitious 'prophets' has spawned a religion whose capacity to mulct money out of people who desperately want a religion that is scientific must make the scientologists green with envy.
The discovery in the lawsuits should be epically entertaining.
"Defense requests all documents used in evaluating effects of global warming."
Then goes on the internet and finds where they have been refuted by credentialed academics.
pretty cool

My thought exactly. If they keep pushing gun restrictions, they are going to get massacred.
Are you fucking kidding me? The Dems are going to pick up 17 net House districts? Someone's been reading their own press too much again. Every day sequester goes on, the Dems lose on the only issue that matters in the House.
The Story Behind the Man Who was Killed in the Famous "Saigon Execution" Photo
http://www.todayifoundout.com/.....ion-photo/
Yeah, that photo is a perfect example of how things are sometimes not what they seem at first glance.
Very interesting stuff.
Old story. Lem was only entitled to a hearing to determine if he was in fact a "saboteur". Once that was determined, summary execution is the proper action under the laws of war.
Yeah, and considering they caught him red handed at a mass grave with women and children in it, I'm surprised he made it as far as he did.
Amazing how the lefties never published that photo, isn't it.
Or the mass graves at Khe Sanh.
It is interesting to know the story of the victim from that picture. I remember using that picture for a project in a High School history class.
The author/photographer is now acting like their is much ambiguity to the story, but the context doesn't change the story too much IMO. It was still a cold blooded killing of a prisoner, regardless of how many people he killed.
There's a pretty big difference between summary execution in accordance with the Geneva Convention and other articles of war conduct and random execution.

U.S. still paying Civil War veterans' families
Review shows World War II's compensation figures didn't peak until 1991
http://www.desmoinesregister.c.....s-families
Who knew "to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan" was a 150 year at a time commitment?
One of the last Civil War widows died in the 1980s I think. She married some crusty old veteran of the Army of the Potomac at a very tender age, and ended up collecting his pension for decades after.
http://wtvr.com/2012/11/21/pre.....fin-tyler/
We're a very young country.
Yeah. Both of my parents met civil war veterans when they were kids. Not widows but actual veterans. That was only 60 years ago.
1950 was 85 years after the end of the Civil War. Those fuckers must have been super old. I thought 15-16 was about as young as any fighters were on either side.
Both were in their late 90s. And both were drummer boys who were like 15 in 1864.
The guy my mother met was this tall very gruff looking old man who still drove a horse and buggy in the 1940s (this was a small town). He had been a drummer boy in the Army of the Potomac in 1864 65. Born around 1849 or so and nearly a hundred then. Being a kid, it was only after she got older and the guy was gone that my mother realized just how amazing that was.
My father met one at his grade school in the early 50s and he was over a hundred. So yeah, they were really old and really young when they fought and it was more like 65 years ago. But still.
My grandmother met a Civil War vet when she was a kid. Probably in the late 1920s or so.
They were around in the 50s. In the 50s the war was 90 before. So it was like meeting a World War I veteran in the late 1990s or early 00s.
Personally, I've met only WWII and up vets.
I had a great uncle who died in the late 70s who was a sniper in the Muse Argonne. He had been gassed and could barely breath. But even as a skinny and kind of mean tempered old man in his 80s, my God could that old fucker shoot.
I had a great uncle who died in the late 70s who was a sniper in the Muse Argonne. He had been gassed and could barely breath
It's amazing he lasted as long as he did with those kinds of health issues. Christy Mathewson got gassed during the war and he didn't make it another ten years.
He was a tough old bastard. He really was the most terrifying person I have ever met, at least to a seven year old kid. He came back pretty screwed up from the war. My uncles tell me that he once told them that most of the people he shot as a sniper were 12 and 13 year old kids the Germans were using as runners. He never married and never had kids. Came home with his health shot and screwed up from shooting kids and he was only 19 or 20 at the time. Lived another 60+ years with bad health and those memories.
My grandfather and his brother were both WWI vets. Grandfather was born in 1900, died in 1995.
"Permanently in capable of self-support" and they're only getting $876 a year? What other programs are they on?
Medicare, SSI, food stamps for starters.
What about the same-sex partners of Civil War veterans?
Newsbytes: Climate Scientists Turn Skeptical As Climate Predictions Fail
The Mail on Sunday today presents irrefutable evidence that official predictions of global climate warming have been catastrophically flawed. The graph on this page blows apart the 'scientific basis' for Britain reshaping its entire economy and spending billions in taxes and subsidies in order to cut emissions of greenhouse gases. The graph shows in incontrovertible detail how the speed of global warming has been massively overestimated....
Climategate 3.0: Media only concerned with number of scientists on warmist list for Kyoto; 'No one is going to check?PhDs'
Distribution for Endorsements ?
I am very strongly in favor of as wide and rapid a distribution as
possible for endorsements. I think the only thing that counts is
numbers. The media is going to say "1000 scientists signed" or "1500
signed". No one is going to check if it is 600 with PhDs versus 2000
without. They will mention the prominent ones, but that is a
different story.

Dad says Facebook photo of son with gun brought cops to house
...Moore insisted that he wouldn't open the safe where his guns are kept-- as no warrant was allegedly presented to him -- and that a lady from the Department of Youth and Family Services refused to identify herself.
The Associated Press says that neither the department nor the police were prepared to comment on the alleged visitation and its purpose.
Moore said none of his visitors had actually seen the photo. He alleges they had merely received a phone call reporting its details.
The rifle was reportedly Josh Moore's 11th birthday gift. ...
Here's how it should go
Cops and lady from DYFS comes up to knock on the door. Man answers. They explain why they are there. Then..
Cop: We want to search your weapons.
Man: Do you have a warrant?
Cops: No, but...
Man: But nothing. I do not consent to a search. Now GTFO! *Slams door*
The end
No, here's how it should go:
Cops come explain why they are there. Man says that the gun was his son's birthday present. Cops say "OK" and leave.
Followed a couple of weeks later by a SWAT Team dynamically entering the home of a suspected terrorist.
But that would be completely unrelated, right?

Robert Menendez donor courted President Obama, Harry Reid
http://www.politico.com/story/.....html?hp=t1
Speaking of that delightful Harry Reid:
Reid raises sequester debate after deadly military training accident
While using the activities at the Nevada facility as an example of critical training that would be cut, Reid did not appear to directly link the budget cuts to the deaths.
Because none exists.
While using the activities at the Nevada facility as an example of critical training that would be cut, Reid did not appear to directly link the budget cuts to the deaths.
Karl Denninger pointed out that this is a load of crap. Reid blatantly said that the sequester caused the accident:

How sad.
"So many people are forced to rely on government support.
The government is forced to support so many people."
Forced.
The amazing thing is if you try to de-passivize both of those you end up with the same thing: So many people are forcing the government to support them.
This is more of their fascination with stasis being a terrible thing. This town, in a proper system, would have died like boomtowns throughout history. But it lingers on, propped up by the dead hand of the State. The mills closed, but the millworkers stay, cashing their welfare checks in the hope that the mills will come back.
That's also the scariest thing about the story. "[A] federal program that began as a last resort for a few million hungry people has grown into an economic lifeline for entire towns." Well, now we know none of that spending is ever going to draw down, is it?
[insert rant about mortgage interest tax deduction here as well]
Where I am from in Western Kansas, the population gets smaller every year. You just don't need as many people to raise cattle and grow food as you once did. There is no reason for people to live there. Why should the government fight that?
Well see John, in your hometown, it's a bunch of racist hating backwards hicks. In the town linked, these are salt of the earth, common folks with horned hands and blue collars. They deserve a piece of the American dream. So what if the jobs left. They didn't want that to happen, so we should all pitch in and pick up the slack.
See how that's different? It certainly has nothing to do with Democrats purchasing votes with your tax dollars. Don't even think that, because it makes you racist.

Possibly also that she doesn't actually live in Kentucky, but I'm just spitballing here.

Anti-consumer bullshit from M$ on it's new Xbox.
Leak reinforces rumors of always connected future Xbox
Games have to be installed. Won't use optical drive to play games (HDD crashes anyone? Oh, and what are the odds they stay with proprietary HDDs?). Activation system that will do away with used games.
I may just go back to piracy. F this S!
It's like they want people to not play video games anymore.
They don't care. Their customer base is moving. Forcing people to have XBL Gold or Silver to watch Netflix/Amazon/ESPN is where the money is.
I use my Xbox every day and haven't played a game on it in months. They've inadvertently created the first truly successful video streaming device.
As web based and open source advertising driven games get bigger, I wonder if they are not just pissing in the wind here trying to save a dying business model.
The only game I play is Battlefield. Been playing it for 11 years now. The newest one, I've got nearly 500 hours logged. So that's 20 cents an hour, because I paid for all the DLC.
If you actually play the games, there is not better value in entertainment then a good multiplayer game.
Interesting. What is battlefield? Single player shooter? Tactical?
multi-player FPS. Larger maps than COD, and you can use vehicles. Very fun stuff.
I liked BF2 more than BF3, though.
BF2 or BC2? Bad Company 2 was the pinnacle of the Battlefield series, imo.
BC2 was ok. I played it for a long time, mainly because I mastered the guided AT launcher, and could take down choppers, boats, tanks, etc with criminal ease. Very fun.
Each of the games had their good points. BF2 had great mod support, but the base game has not aged as well. BF2142 has excellent maps and a very cool setting, but was limited by the engine. BC2 was a lot of fun, but lacked a lot of the deeper gameplay BF2 and 2142 had. BF3 is a blast, but I miss the structure of the commander and squad system Bf2 and 2142 had. I play in a community, and there is nothing quite as fun as getting a bunch of people clicking together in organized fashion and overcoming the other side.
I liked BC and BC2. Destructible environments are a great addition to the game. However, there were things about BF2 that were better, especially with the expansion packs.
BF3 is still good, though. I just have not played it in forever because my internet SUCKS!
One thing that I feel is underappreciated about the Battlefield series is the sound design. These games have the absolute best sound effects and sound engine I've ever heard.
And one thing I loved, and which BF3 unfortunately ditched, is that armies actually spoke in their native languages.
Seriously. All the German and Arabic I know is totally useless because it's things like "enemy tank spotted!" and "Grenade!"
Multiplayer FPS. You can run around on foot, drive tanks, fly choppers and jets, etc. Pretty much non-stop mayhem on giant maps.
In my experience, you can CRASH choppers and jets, but flying them, not so much.
I can make the chopper dance. Problem is when some idiot hops in the gunners seat and just randomly shoots at nothing.
there is not better value in entertainment then a good multiplayer game.
So true. If MS does this, though, I will be moving over to PS or PC gaming. Although I wouldn't be surprised if PS does the same thing on their next iteration.
PS4 is not supposed to be as onerous. They do look to be pushing mostly digital distribution though (ie, trying to get rid of the used game market), but they haven't confirmed making people buy new games only or require you to be connected at all times.
I remember when the PSN was down for over a month. I could play games, just not online. I don't want to have to deal with not getting to even PLAY my games because M$ can't get their shit together. I'm already burned because of the SimCity fiasco. Imagine that on a whole platform. NFW do I want to deal with that!
Wait... so Xbox is now basically pc master race lite?
Why would I -ever- play an xbox game over a PC game?
shitty consoles.
Welp. If this is true, I won't be buying any next gen consoles.
I was already burned by Sony on the PS3 because the PS3's wifi fucking sucks and the PSN security was a goddamned joke. Who the fuck stores passwords in plain text?
And the Wii-U? Haha! Another stupid gimmick console.
If at first you don't succeed: try, try again.
Don't worry, buddy. You'll finally kill somebody sooner or later. It's not like they're gonna fire you when the taxpayers keep forking over money for the settlements.

Feinstein has a sad over Harry Reid pulling her Assault Weapons ban from the Senate gun control bill. Maybe they can have a pay per view death match.
They could each use their concealed weapons (that they don't think peasants like us should have) and have a showdown at high noon!
On the Senate Floor. CSPAN would never see such ratings again.

Justice Dept finds Miami-Dade police made wrongful arrest, conducted illegal search. Officers to be held personally liable in civil action. They were, of course, not charged with false arrest or false imprisonment for their actions, though.
Personally liable is a bitch though. Civil rights judgements are not dischargable in bankruptcy. They are screwed.
Good. Fuck those assholes. It's not illegal to park a vehicle on your private property and pull a tarp over it. Why the fuck is having a piece of paper over the license plate a reason to enter upon her property and demand a goddamn thing?
I hope these fucks have to pay a fortune, but I'd be willing to bet that they'll drag the city into the settlement and the taxpayers get stuck with the bill. I also bet these officers never get fired or face a moment's discipline.
Absolutely. I hope the person gets a seven figure judgement and those assholes wind up spending the rest of their lives living under a bridge.
Well, it is federal, so the chance of a judge making the officers pay it back in $5/year increments is decreased.
I still expect there to be a settlement where "the department does not admit wrongdoing by the officers" and the taxpayers get put on the hook for the damages.
I don't think so. At least with federal employees, if you get a ruling that you are personally liable, DOJ can no longer defend you. They can only defend people who act within the scope of employment. Losing immunity means losing the government defending you.
I think you underestimate the strength of union contracts and the FOP strongarming a co-defendant (in this case the Miami-Dade Police Department and the City of Miami) into footing the bill for their officers' malfeasance.
After all, do you see where the officers lost their jobs or faced any disciplinary actions? Nope. And that tells me the department and city by extension give their tacit approval for these types of actions. Therefore, it's fair to assume that they will be happy to pay the settlement pass on the cost of the settlement to the taxpayers.
They won't be able to. Personal liability means just that.
She was in a parked vehicle. The article did not state if it was running.
Does she have to produce a licenses if she's on private property anyway? I do not believe she does. Even if she's just walking around town, she does not have to produce identification. She can identify herself verbally.
And once she said she did not consent to a search, that should have ended it. They had no right to search the vehicle without her present, especially after she refused the search and they had no warrant.
Looking or being suspicious is NOT a crime, nor justification for probable cause. Glad the judges saw it that way.
I hope they lose their shirts over this.

This is...interesting:
Patrons were ALARMED!
I can understand that. If a gaggle of teenagers showed up and started yelling Bingo randomly, it would totally screw up the game. It was disorderly conduct.
Well, it was reasonably disorderly conduct, it's more the sentence that's bizarre.
Yeah. But it was the judge telling them to stop harassing old people. better that than jail.
I read it as the judge saying, "Quit being a tool and get out of here."
Borderline fraud, really, if there were prizes being awarded and their false claims of bingotude caused other players to clear their cards.
Doesn't fraud require gain?
Q: How do you get a sweet little old lady to drop the F-bomb?
A: Get another sweet little old lady to yell "Bingo!"
Private function. They created a disturbance. According to Tulpa's understanding of the NAP, the other patrons even had a right to shoot them dead.
Seriously, though, the sentence seems just to me.
Sort of just. Not if you take into account making sure he carries it out. What if he whispers "bingo" to himself before bed every night? I mean, it's not like a terrible thing, but it's absurd.
I think it was supposed to be. "Look, they were right and you were acting like an ass." It's like cases that give $1 in damages. It was symbolic... and better than fining him or making him do community service.
Eh, I think a modest fine might be appropriate. If you were asked to leave, but didn't, then wouldn't you be trespassing?
Community service can be overdone in terms of hours, but I think him spending one Saturday afternoon scrubbing graffiti would not be a great injustice.
Yeah, I don't think a modest fine or scrubbing some graffiti would necessarily have been inappropriate, either, but I think that would be at the harsh end of what would be appropriate. Something like this, or banning him from the venue for six months, are more appropriate, though, imo.
Now, if he's asked to leave and doesn't, he's moved from being someone trying to be funny to something a little more serious.
"The Iraq War cost $2.2 trillion and there were nearly 200,000 people killed in it."

An Al-Qaeda affiliate claimed responsibility for bombings in Iraq yesterday that killed at least 65 people and wounded 200.
If I lived in a hut in Pakistan or Yemen, I'd think twice before attending a neighbor's wedding today.
So we should just let AlQaeda bomb anyone they like?
That's EXACTLY what he said!
The what do weddings have to do with it then? Clearly if bombing AlQaeda involves risking the life of innocent people, we shouldn't do it right? We might kill a kid or something. That sounds like letting them do what they like doesn't it? We wouldn't want any blood on our hands or anything.
C'mon, John. You're smarter than this.
My point was that I fully expect our great leader (especially while in Israel) to use an incident in Iraq to exact his personal brand of (extrajudicial) justice on people several thousand miles away from the bombings that have absolutely no discernible connection to it. And I expect him to do so without thought of collateral damage, without explaining who or what the targets are and what they have done to be considered a real and credible threat, and without the tacit approval of the governments of the sovereign nations he is bombing without a declaration of war.
"without the tacit approval of the governments of the sovereign nations he is bombing"
Oh, I think the Paks are tacitly approving (as long as it is in the NW Frontier/Waziristan/Tribal Areas) whilst the Yemeni government is actually suggesting targets/using us as a hammer against domestic foes.
The Pakistani government raises hell every time we murderdrone somebody there. And their complaint is always based on our lack of respect for their national sovereignty.
The Yemeni government gets wishy-washy, and are ok with us assassinating their political dissidents for them. Of course, being their mercenaries hardly complies with the constitutional requirements for a declaration of war, but to a lawyer that works for the government, I would imagine that's of little concern.
I think the Paks complain for domestic consumption - I remember talking with Pak Army officers about the area we drone...they used run in a regiment of artillery and shell places for 3 days whenever the "Pathans" got uppity, just to remind them they were part of Pakistan. They want us out, they could kick us out in a heartbeat - but they like the graft and theft they can engage in with the ISAF supplies running through Karachi and up to AF. Once the supplies stop running, we'll see if they kick us out.
Yeah, I don't remember any part of my oath as an officer being related to service as a hit man for a third world despotism, but maybe that has been added since I was commissioned. Bleah.

Okay, I'm in.
So, we're in the process of mastering our recipes and then it's off to labs for testing. We've also decided to branch out into some other condiments and a few bar foods. Quite soon, we will want a few testers to give their opinions on a few of these. If any of you are game, I'll be asking in a few weeks to a month if we can ship a jar or two to get your opinions.
Sweet. Good luck with that.
