Bob Menendez's Alleged Underage Prostitution Scandal
Not looking like it's going away
The claim that Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) frequented underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic first emerged just a few days before the 2012 election. It didn't get much coverage in the local press and didn't make a difference in the Democratic-leaning state; Menendez was re-elected by a nearly twenty point margin. The original allegations came from two Dominican women, via the Daily Caller, who also said they were short shrifted, getting paid $100 instead of $500. Menendez denied the allegations, but refused to release travel records that might refute them. Instead his spokesperson called the allegations "completely false."
Now the FBI is involved, having raided the eye doctor alleged to be the donor that funded the trips to the Dominican Republic and even the underage prostitutes, though it's not clear whether Mendendez is a target of the investigation as well. Nevertheless the FBI raid yielded a fresh denial of the allegations and an announcement from Menendez that he's reimbursed the eye doctor for three trips to the Dominican Republic he took on the man's plane in 2010.
The magazine New York, though seemingly dismissive of the allegations, adds a few details:
[The FBI] raid coincides with a guilty plea by a New Jersey man who admitted yesterday to making more than $20,000 in illegal donations to Menendez from 2005 to 2008. "Senator Menendez's campaign, a victim of the fraud that ensued, cooperated fully with the investigation," said his former campaign manager. "After the first guilty plea was entered, Sen. Menendez donated the campaign contributions in question to two charities … At that point, Senator Menendez considered the matter, as far as he was concerned, closed."
The bumps are compounded by yet another recent Menendez mini-scandal, in which an unpaid intern in his office was found to be an undocumented immigrant and registered sex offender, but wasn't arrested until after the election. (Homeland Security said it was "categorically false" that the arrest was delayed for political purposes.) Up to this point, none of it has touched Menendez, but you know what they say about keeping certain company.
New York has the latest denial from Mendendez's office: "Any allegations of engaging with prostitutes are manufactured by a politically-motivated right-wing blog and are false."

I assume that's a typo?
Nah, just shows Zimbabwe's got nuthin' on us.
Yeah, thanks!
New York has the latest denial from Mendendez's office: "Any allegations of engaging with prostitutes are manufactured by a politically-motivated right-wing blog and are false."
And yet, the FBI just raided his partner in crime's offices. Man those right wing blogs sure do have connections in high places.
Muy caliente!
Too soon?
Nah, just right.
Oh boy oh boy, another prostitution scandal? And from Jersey? DELICIOUS.
I know the dude is innocent until proven guilty, but...it's a politician. That pretty much proves he's guilty from the get-go. I wonder if he's crusaded against prostitution at all? Because that would basically confirm it.
Menendez is Boss Tweed reborn. The man absolutely owns the Democratic machine in north Jersey. Nothing will come of this.
Oh, I don't know. The "underage" part may do it. And then Christie gets to appoint a replacement, right?
Sure, if it comes to that. But I think you underestimate our electorate's capacity to tolerate basically anything from our Democratic non-Governor elected officials.
it's a politician.

It's baffling that people often mistake them for humans when the work that goes into creating those humanoid replicas is so shoddy. I've seen better seam work on Frankenstein's monster.
Could somebody explain to me the recipient of $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions is a victim?
Also, has Menendez ever said just what he was doing in the DR on those trips that it turns out he took after all?
Scouting baseball talent, probably.
i guess the hit it and run play was on.
1 gallon batch, how'd it go?
bottling this weekend. will let you know. but it's looking good.
Awesome.
There was grass on the field.
Uh...banging whores?
Don't call his escorts whores.
"Jackpot! I knew there was something special about you and I'm not just saying that 'cause you're a whore, but...you are a total whore."
"No, nicole, when they're dead, they're just hookers."
Remember not to leave the rug behind this time.
I'm sure Popeye would LOVE to hear about this!
Those are his NIECES, for pete's sake. Didn't you hear them call him "uncle"?
The guy was really trying to help out and change the lives of some teenage Dominican girls. And you sickos try to make something sexual out of it.
Iguess it just goes to show how venal and power-mad (oh and stupid) these people can be.
Stiffing the pro just because he's a senator and more important than her despite the fact that that $500 dollars probably got him anything he wanted for the whole night.
The stupidity comes in because he fails to realize that his position in the senate is worth more than $400 dollars and is now in jeopardy beacause he failed to take a look around and notice the large number of his peers taken down by sexual indiscretions that are reported by disgruntled partners.
He is a Democrat. He could hire as many adult hookers as he wants and probably get away with it. Why does he have to have the underage variety? That is the part that shows how venal these people are and how power corrupts. No thrill is ever big enough.
I learned it by watching you Eliot Spitzer! I learned it from watching you!!!
They would love to get Spitzer back into public life. But what did in Spitzer was the fact that he was a governor and in charge of law enforcement. I think a Senator from a blue state could overcome a garden variety hooker scandal.
Garden variety, sure. Hell, Barney Frank survived having a frickin' gay bordello in his basement.
Underage girls? Sex parties? Flying to DR on a private jet for the above? It would be tough, except for one thing:
He's not up for reelection for six more years. By then, this will all be ancient history.
The underage part is what is going to get him. If it comes out that he was doing underage girls, the Senate will kick him out. The Dems will figure a year with a R in the seat until the special election is better than having a kiddy didler in their ranks. He can survive anything as long as it is not underage, and he might be able to survive that if he was gay.
Gary Studds committed statutory rape on an underage male Congressional Page. He got nothing but a censure from the House, during which he turned his back on his colleagues and refused to acknowledge.
He was reelected 6 more times.
Studds was gay Drake. Menendez is straight. Sadly, he could probably get away with molesting underage boys. But not girls.
If it comes out that he was doing underage girls, the Senate will kick him out.
Could be. Although you and I both know this would never happen if they didn't have a few seats cushion on their majority.
agree with RC -- he'd seek treatment or some BS but would remain in office without the buffer.
the Senate will kick him out
The democratic-controlled senate will not kick out one of their own. A reprimand, maybe.
The stupidity comes in because he fails to realize that his position in the senate is worth more than $400
You expect a Democratic senator to grasp the value of money?
Yes, when it is his money. Now, when it is our money - nope, he just wants to take it and buy influence and votes with it.
What happes in DR, stays in DR.
you almost spelled herpes.
Unless you decide to not pay for the services rendered as agreed.
Break a Deal - Face the Wheel!
Can't he go to Thailand, like a respectable pervert?
How do you know he hasn't? I mean, I thought I saw someone who looked like him, one night at the Poseidon.
It did help Menendez that hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey right before this scandal. The people here who had electricity still weren't really paying attention.
It did help Menendez that hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey right before this scandal. The people here who had electricity still weren't really paying attention.
It wasn't a hurricane. It was a SUPERSTORM!! You know: a completely made up thing that has no relation to anything except for the ruckus it stirs in the climate change crowd.
And it was just a mistake that he forgot for years to pay the $60K for the trips. And that the guy providing the flights forgot to ask for the money. I'm sure he forgets to ask his patients to pay all the time.
Wait! I'm having vision! I can see the future!
This will go absolutely nowhere.
You must have taken an especially large dose of melange - for I believe you have seen truly.
Thank goodness Menendez is possessed of a sufficiently strong moral character we don't have to worry bout him committing suicide out of some misplaced sense of shame or personal responsibility.
Thanks for the laugh!
Trying to imagine a Jersey Democrat feeling shame... damn that's good.
Too bad his office doesn't have the guts to say, "Sen. Menendez is a bachelor and he enjoys the company of women though he isn't the handsomest guy in the room. Instead of a Broadway show and dinner, he skips the preliminaries and gives his date the
equivalent in cash. It is about sex and money. Which one of them do you oppose?"
He divorced in 2005. If the media were anything but full on team blue shills, they would be talking to the ex wife. Why did they divorce? Did Bob like young girls back in the day? Inquiring minds want to know.
Not to defend the media, John, but it's also possible that they have tried and she won't talk. Even if she knows he's a disgusting perv her alimony may be dependent upon her keeping quiet.
You're probably right, but there are other possibilities.
It wouldn't be a problem if he enjoyed the company of "women". Reports say he was fucking 14-year-olds, which is media spin-ese for 12-year-olds. Menendez deserves to have his rectum prolapsed by the good folks of Cell Block B.
Maybe I am naive. But I really think if it turns out he was screwing 14 year olds, he will at least have to leave the Senate. No way will he ever be prosecuted much less get the jail time and registration requirement he deserves. But I really think that is too much for even the Dems and their media toadies to stomach.
Notice, they are saying it is not true, not that it is no big deal.
There are hookers in every city in America and no doubt thousands of them in Washington DC. If you are flying to the DR so you can get your fix of being with a 14 year old, you are a sick fuck who needs to be locked up.
CBS ought to get Chris Hansen to interview him.
I'm thinking what he really deserves is extradition to the Dominican Republic to stand trial.
It is about sex and money. Which one of them do you oppose?
Neither. But politicians of morally suspect character? That I do oppose.
Need to get Lautenberg in on this. A teenager would probably kill him at his age, and then they could start with a fresh NJ delegation.
Senator senile is busy trying to destroy the 2nd Amendment.
Makes a NJ resident proud to be represented by such people.
It's an honest representation. This state is just a mishmash of coots and crooks.
We should change our motto from "Liberty and Prosperity" to "Graft and Entitlement."
We should change our motto from "Liberty and Prosperity" to "Graft and Entitlement."
An excellent idea, however I think Illinois beat you to the trademark register on that one.
State sovereignty, national union
At least you guys stand for half the things in your motto. We have two ideas and we actively seek to diminish both.
We were going to change from "State sovereignty, national union" to "Will the defendant please rise"
And what do you want to bet that if this is true Menendez has a whole hard drive somewhere full of underage porn? You don't just wake up one day and decide under age girls (and Menendez according to the hookers wasn't into coeds and happened to get the odd 17 year old, he liked them as young as possible) are your thing.
Hmmm, good point.

So, who's running the pool on how long it takes for this guy to be too toxic for the party to keep on life support?
I'd like to put $50 on this coming monday morning.
