Officer Charged With Larceny 'Punished' With Retirement and Payments

NEW MILFORD—A former New Milford police officer who was fired in 2011 following an internal investigation of his conduct in an off-duty case has been allowed to retire and receive related payments from the town, but he is not eligible for unemployment benefits.

"He was due sick leave and vacation time," Mayor Patricia Murphy said recently regarding Brant Cadovius, who had been with the New Milford force for more than 10 years and had an annual salary of $63,569 when she fired him. "He won't be reinstated as a New Milford police officer, and he won't be getting a retired [police] ID or badge."
