Illinois Democrats Pushing State Gun Ban

Would restrict semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines

Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups. 

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an "urgent alert" to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

And how will this mesh with the Supreme Court's statements in the past about the constitutionality of banning handguns?

Semi-automatic is one shot per pull of the trigger, with no additional user action other than the trigger pull needed to fire. Aside from single-action revolvers and a few oddities, a ban on every gun that fires that way would ban nearly every handgun made in the past 100 years.

You'd think the way Chicago's gun ban got treated by the Supreme Court would show them how likely a gun ban is to survive. Apparently you don't have to be very intelligent to get elected as a Democrat in Illinois.
