Facebook and Zynga have opened their marriage amid growing business strains on their relationship.

The social partners — whose bond has boosted games play and time spent on Facebook — have loosened their ties as their businesses interests have begun to diverge. Zynga disclosed Thursday in a regulatory filing new business freedoms from Facebook along with an end to its favored treatment status on the social network.

Facebook in recent months began to see slackening user interest on the site for Zynga's casual games and reacted by supplying its network with a mix of more hardcore games, says P.J. McNealy, CEO of Digital World Research.
