An FBI SWAT team stormed a family home in District Heights, Maryland, yesterday at 6 a.m.
Agents fired at an unarmed 18-year-old woman in what appears to have been a no-knock raid. Via ABC 7:
"They almost hit my daughter, man," says Emory Hughley. "If I hadn't told her to go back in her room they probably would have shot her."
Hughley says he was asleep in the basement when he heard a bang at the front door. His 18-year-old daughter Myasia was upstairs in her room with two friends who were spending the night. Around 6 a.m. he says he came up to the living room and saw 15 FBI SWAT agents coming inside, guns drawn.
"I'm shouting 'Nobody is armed, nobody has a gun!' and then all of a sudden I heard 'She's got a gun!' and they just opened fire," he says.
Hughley says he looked up and saw his daughter standing outside her bedroom in the hallway. Then he heard gunfire.
"I've got eight holes in my wall. One bullet went past my head, almost hit me, ricocheted off my brick wall and some of the shrap metal hit my little daughter in the back of her neck, all for nothing." says Hughley.
Myasia was treated at a local hospital for a flesh wound and released. The Hughley's say none of them were armed an in fact, none of them own guns. They were never told why their home was raided.
Myasia, a college student, had two friends sleeping over. Her brother was in the house as well. According to an FBI agent, her injury came from a fall, not debris from a bullet.

Had Myasia been shot and killed I'm sure the FBI would have claimed her injuries occurred from a fall as well.
Or they would have said she, and her girlfriends from school were suspected gang members in a known high-crime, gang influenced area. They were on a drug raid searching for a large amount of hard-drugs and even though the homeowner was able to hide the drugs and his illegal guns, the young gang member threatened police and made a motion like she was pulling a handgun on a group of 15 FBI agents with long guns. They feared for their lives, clearly. Sounds about right. All procedures were followed, the internal investigation cleared the officers involved, and the prosecutor is declining to press charges citing the danger the officers were in and the lack of a dog to shoot.
"She fell onto some bullets."
The problem is that the police carry autonomous weapons that shoot people regardless of the intent of the officer carrying it. "The civilian was injured/killed when a gun went off."
Guns DO kill people.
Myasia did not invite the FBI over for the sleepover and the FBI was jealous.
All together, now!
Because Fuck You, That's Why!
Well done, Loki!
Shit. I got PWN'D
All together, now!
And nothing else happened?
Panty raid with guns.
On the upside, no animals were injured.
The walls and children weren't so lucky.
Walls and children are fungible.
I don't think so - children make some pretty shitty walls.
Yeah, they've got no load-bearing capability at all.
Many people have reported bright flashing lights in their homes and inexplicable injuries to the backs of their necks, but it always turned out to be the planet Venus.
Quite: http://themoscownews.com/polit.....45524.html
BECAUSE FUCK YOU, THAT'S WHY
Good thing it appears they're bad shots.
Most imperial thugs are.
"Only Imerial Stormtroopers are so precise."
Wait there were Imerial stormtroopers? It explains why the Imperials couldn't hit anything but where did the Imerial stormtroopers come from.
Imeria, where else?
I'm proud to live in a transparent nation where our government conducts its raids in the open instead of disappearing people in the middle of the night light they did in Russia and Argentina.

I get the same reaction from people when I tell them that I am thinking about moving to China.
And nothing else happened.
"all for nothing" Not hardly, Hughley, it's another win for the Police State and it's masters in D.C.
all for nothing
Humbug.
Dominance was established.
Boners were stroked.
Um, HELLO? Isolated incident.
Give it a rest already. These good people protect our freedumz, no thanks to you tax-avoiding lovers of all things Somalian. Like YOU'VE never made a mistake? It's not like this happens very often.
/derp
Yeah, when was the last time a SWAT team raided the wrong house, or shot someone's dog? It's not like this happens every other week.
Where's Barrack to claim that the poor kid looked like me?
all of a sudden I heard 'She's got a gun!' and they just opened fire," he says.
Probably one of those Hairbrush Guns, with armor piercing explosive depleted uranium rounds I've been hearing so much about. All the cool narcoterrorists have them.
Probably her dad saying "no one's got a gun" threw them off. Just stick with "were unarmed taxpayers".
Does anybody in one of these situations yell back, "Surrender or die."? Seems like being nonthreatening doesn't work. Maybe if you made a threat in response, they'd all drop their guns y run.
I've wondered about this. Considering that only the FBI's poor shooting skill is the only reason these people are alive, you have to wonder if shooting them before they shoot you is your best chance for survival.
Actually, when there is a real-live armed-and-dangerous killer on the premises who has shown that he's ready, willing and able to shoot back, SWAT tends to back off and surround the place and wait for him to surrender. Or make himself available for a sniper shot.
They rarely storm the building under the more dangerous conditions, just when they think they have some small-time user or low-level dealer at home asleep. They still go in with a shoot-first mentality because "officer safety comes first". Strange that it never occurs to them how much safer everyone would be if they just waited until the house was empty as their suspect headed out for a burrito and simply surrounded him in the yard. Heck, they could even play with their cool tazers...
No, this already happened earlier this year. An ex-Marine showed up with his rifle, and they shot him 72 times, hit him several times, and left him to bleed out, keeping medical personnel at bay at gunpoint. Don't you guys remember?
Yeah, but he actually had a gun. I meant to use a broomstick handle or even nothing at all, and just show you meant business by verbally demanding their surrender or giving them the option to die.
In the future drones will just crater the house, no survivors, no embarassing stories.
Where is the liberal outrage over this?
They used it all up on Bush. Note that they weren't so much outraged by his policies... just, you know... Bush.
It is actually kinda fun to watch them twist themselves into logical knots over at HuffPo when Balko publishes one of his articles. On the one hand they have all the nut-punch induced outrage that one would expect, but on the other hand they are physically incapable of placing any blame on a democrat administration. Somehow it comes back to Bush, Republithugs, Corporashuns and the private prison industry.
This. God this. They never ever shut up about this. The fact that prisons are built with private contractors, and that the cafeteria is supplied by private contractors, means that the entire criminal justice system, all the abuses and excesses, are the fault of the evil CORPARASHUNZ and there is no blame whatsoever for Obama.
too busy protesting the Afghan war, oops, too busy w/ Obama circle jerk
Luckily, the FBI agents were poor shots.
How many members of the armed assault party were charged with breaking and entering and attempted murder? When's the trial?
Where is the liberal outrage over this?
Now that marijuana is legal, there is no need for outrage.
Until they start raiding the legal liberal MJ parties.
They had it coming. Everybody knows that if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Ergo, they must be guilty of something.
And nothing else happened!
As great as it is to get my hate on, is there any chance of follow up by, say, reason staffers with the tenant, the tenant's lawyer and the FBI. Specifically, just what address, person, and intent were they executing the warrant on? What, in the FBI's view, gave them cause for this overwhelming response? It's all fun and games to say "because fuck you, that's why." But maybe a little press provided sunlight on these situations might make at least the FBI slower to act.
I agree, but I doubt it.
Did they dieded?
If the headline read "FBI SWAT team slain by homeowners resisting home invasion." a few times, this behavior would stop. But until then, until there are personal consequences and government agents have the reasonable and persistent fear of said consequences being delivered should they violate the rights of others and commit acts of aggression, it will simply continue.
What is needed is a kind of national grass roots aversion therapy.
Myasia: the opposite of Eurasia?
Well played, sir.
That's it? Why were the F.B.I. there in the first place? This constant vilification of law enforcement on the part of Reason without presenting all of the facts, is just shoddy journalism on your part. Do the cops and the feds screw up, absolutely. Are there cases of gross misconduct on the part of law enforcement? Absolutely. What I would like to see from Reason are facts and details. Simply reporting a story about how the FBI took shots at an 18 year old girl and then leaving it at that, is poor journalism. Get your shit together.
They were there to try to kill some kids. Didn't you read the article?
I agree that you can't be Balko just by recycling a story about a wrong-door raid. Some investigative journalism would have been in order. But I like that these stories keep being covered.
The facts might come out in the wash later, after the victims lawyer up. The feds will simply stonewall the lawyer unless/until they have whatever or whoever they were after.
Uh, also the author of the post is a Reason intern, so good job young person, we do not expect you to be an ace reporter yet.
One news source says it was a drug ring raid and the feds were serving a search warrant. It happens WAY too often.

My favorite thing about this article? The advertizement for Cabela's at the bottom.
Where is Dunphy?
After naming their daughter "Myasia", I'm surprised the parents haven't already been shot.
IF she was unarmed, very alarming. Huffington has a few more "details" like "MyFoxDC reported that this was part of a coordinated series of FBI actions at locations in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. The station maintains that four people were arrested in the other raids on charges connected to heroin dealing."
