Who's Going to Get Fired Over Petraeus Investigation?

So retired Gen. David Petraeus has resigned as CIA director in the wake of revelations of an affair and crazy email behavior on his part and that of his lover. That Petraeus cashiered himself just as he was about to testify before Congress about the total botch job surrounding the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya is disturbing for about a thousand reasons.
Yesterday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said that she and others in the Senate had no idea that the FBI was investigating Petraeus until he resigned. The White House has said they didn't know about the investigation until Election Day. The director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, says the Department of Justice told him about the investigation on 5pm on Election Day.
Which led Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) to say:
"It seems this (the investigation) has been going on for several months and, yet, now it appears that they're saying that the FBI didn't realize until Election Day that General Petraeus was involved. It just doesn't add up," said King, R-N.Y.
Is it plausible that FBI Director Robert Mueller didn't tell the president that his team was investigating the head of the CIA, long understood as a rival agency? Or that Mueller himself didn't know? That Obama didn't know until so late in the game? Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) has claimed he'd heard rumors about the investigation over the summer. None of the possible explanations are particularly comforting. Either folks were pulling on strings independent of oversight, which is scary but believable. Or they were informing their superiors all along, which means that a bunch of higher-ups in the White House and various security committees in Congress are bullshitting when they claim ignorance. Also scary but believable.
Whatever truth outs - and here's hoping that the press, relieved of its duty of protecting Obama in his bid for re-election, gets cracking on all sorts of investigative stories - there better be some kind of serious repucussions here. The most transparent administration in history is once again revealed to be as clear as a glass of water pulled from the mighty Mississippi.

"Who's Going to Get Fired Over Petraeus Investigation?"
Obama?...Oh, wait. Too late.
who is going to get fired for the AM Links head fake?
Obama's innocent. He's good and pure and sacred. LEAVE OBAMA ALONE.
Fired? Yeahhhhhhh, righhhhht
The most transparent administration in history is once again revealed to be as clear as a glass of water pulled from the mighty Mississippi.
Yankee cosmotarians always dumping on Mississippi 😉
Tennessee River, representin'.
Wait, it's not cricket to point out that the Mississippi River has a lot of mud?
Is there anything you Southerners don't have a chip on your shoulder about?
I keed.
What's not transparent about sitting on all the bad news over the last few months until the day after the victory party?
Two General Officers and now the CIA Director relieved since Benghazi.
Nothing to see here.
Two General Officers, one CIA Director? Sounds like there's plenty to see there
Whoosh!
I nominate this as the new dictionary definition for irony.
I mean after "its like RAIIIIIINNNNNNNN" of course
It's just a coincidence, folks, how everything always breaks the Democrats way. Yep... yep...
There better be "repucussions" for not enough coffee in the editors' lounge at reason.
The Wenzel Picture Digest Version of the Petraeus Story
lol
I can't say I blame him for nailing Broadwell after seeing his wife.
That's not very nice.
But it is true.
Yeah. Holly Petraeus does resemble CHRISTIAN WESTON CHANDLER a bit.
Holy shit, I didn't know he was married to Christina Romer.
I want Petraeus brought up on Article 134 charges.
It looks like... (puts on sunglasses) the Director got spooked.
YEAHHHHHHHH
Are they star-shaped, sparkly sunglasses?
Did you miss the meme/reference?
They shouldn't have included this information on those Fast & Furious emails no one read.
The most transparent administration in history is once again revealed to be as clear as a glass of water pulled from the mighty Mississippi.
And the longer that glass is around, the funkier it gets.
Sorry, Mississippi 😉
And in Peoria and other parts of flyover country, the masses are saying Petra-who? What is this Benghazi you speak of?
I'm sticking with my original assessment re: Libya - regardless of the election's result, four American families will be told to go to hell.
First, in the absence of an AM Links thread, let me take the opportunity to say that even as a Patriots fan I think the officiating against the Bills was absolutely atrocious and on a par with the worst officiating we saw from the replacement refs.
Second, I think that it's silly to worry about ONE particular piece of information being withheld from the public during an election cycle, when the entire purpose of our secrecy regime is to keep information from the public and out of elections. What makes hiding this story worse than hiding any other story?
I'm going to say the difference is Americans being killed while, apparently, a lot of folks sat around and did nothing. The affair story is an attempted distraction, although not a very good one since the only thing guaranteed to get people talking about a political story is a sexual angle.
I wouldn't say it's worse. But I also don't think it's silly to focus on it. You have to pick your battles.

"First, in the absence of an AM Links thread, let me take the opportunity to say that even as a Patriots fan I think the officiating against the Bills was absolutely atrocious..."
Yeah, and the Niners need to learn that tackling shoulder pads doesn't help.
I saw pictures of patraeus's wife. Jesus, she is wookie ugly. Coyote ugly. I-wouldn't-fuck-her-with-John's-dick ugly. I can't blame the General for boning the relatively hotter author chick.
But if he can't keep that a secret, he probably shouldn't be in charge of the CIA.
I said this before, the problem with fucking around on your wife is that most of the women who will go for another woman's husband are nuts. Petreus' girlfriend hacked into his account and started threatening other women. He couldn't keep it secret because his girlfriend is a nut.
And go fuck yourself for the ugly remark. Seriously, go fuck yourself.
All women are crazy john. And god your a fucking cry baby, no seriously, you're a fucing over paid cry-baby.
You don't like people telling you to fuck off, don't say stupid shit. And not all women are that crazy. There are some that are less crazy. And those are the ones who won't sleep with married men.
Petreus' wife is the General's wife from Beetle Bailey made flesh. Still, I don't understand why Petreus didn't have the balls to divorce her. I understand divorce is expensive, but suck it up. There are worse things in the world that alimony.
She would have gotten half of his retirement. And it would have looked bad. She probably suffered in silence and didn't care that he screwed around. She got to be a four star general's wife out of the deal. Why divorce her when you don't have to?
"I understand divorce is expensive"
You know why divorce is so expensive? Because it's worth it.
" I don't understand why Petreus didn't have the balls to divorce her."
Maybe he doesn't want to divorce her. Maybe he just want's some puddin' on the side and that's all. Unfortunately for him, women just can't handle FWB status even if they say they can.
Well, Paula Broadwell might not be drive 900 miles non-stop in a diaper crazy but it sounds like she's close.
Acoording to an NPR report this morning Jill Kelley felt threatened by the emails and reported it to the FBI.
Oh, another thing. Am I the only one not buying this story that this is the first time he's fucked around in his thirty-seven year marriage?
FWIW, I believe that Broadwell had reason to be jealous of Jill Kelley.
She has gotten a lot of grief for her aging related lack of feminine appeal, but have you looked at General Petraeus? He's a fugass himself. Weak jawline, a shark fin for a nose, Alfred E. Newman cheeks, a weird comb over, and a head that is shaped like a Brazilian nut. One of the ugliest mugs to ever make it in public life.
Yeah, he does look like a dufus.
Plus his teeth are fucked up.
This comment reversed what had previously been a really shitty day. Thanks for that.
Clearly, you are poorly socialized. Everyone knows that appearance is less important to women. Women are hypergamous. They are more attracted to power (of various kinds) and access to resources. Broadwell was already married to a radiologist, for crissake!
He should've been fired for being such a complete moron about security that he corresponded with his mistress via email.
Christ, what an idiot.
You know what, I have to agree. Most of the top men and women in the spook agencies today don't even use e-mail at all because they know the deal. The fact that one of the highest ranking guys in the military doesn't know any better is a little scary.
Well said RC - you would think the head of the CIA would be better at keeping a secret and would know how to cover his tracks better than the average guy (or, not make any tracks to begin with!)
The actual question is why in the hell was the FBI monitoring the emails of the head of the CIA?
Judge Napolitano pointed out three scenarios for this:
1: Warrant obtainbed from federal judge with evidence of crime being comiited
2: FBI internal warrant obtained due to terrorism investigation
3: Emails obtained illegally by hacking
My bet would be on 3, since the first two would require them to make up a story that no one would believe.
She doesn't really look ugly, she just looks like someone's grandma. On account of being old, you know.
General Carter Ham is where the real story is. The committee needs to get him under oath and let him spill the beans.
Say, how's Wikileaks these days?
My sources are a little more reliable than Wikileaks.
Some of us discussed it at great length on Saturday's sausage thread.
I bet Admiral Charles Gaouette would also have some interesting stuff to say. (If his pension was protected from Administration revenge.)
here's hoping that the press, relieved of its duty of protecting Obama in his bid for re-election, gets cracking on all sorts of investigative stories

There might be a Pulitzer Nobel Prize in it for someone ....
Who's getting fired over the upcoming alt-text investigation?
What I'd like to know is, why the Director of the CIA isn't using PGP encryption on his personal email. Does he not know the difference between a public key and a private key?
No one is going to be fired over this. And it also appears that the FBI monitored the girlfriend's email without a warrant. But fuck you that is why.
"PATRIOT Act. Read it sometime."
Everyone is a potential terrorist.
I have. And it doesn't say what you think it does. This is still illegal.
I'm gonna go for a hot Ding Dong. Hot Ding Dong?
If the report on NPR this AM is accurate, the FBI monitored the girlfriend's email with her consent because she felt threatened by the ones she was getting from Broadwell.

Try this.
What I would like to know is, why isn't the CIA Director using PGP encryption on his personal email, or a Tormail account? Doesn't he know how?
This thing is like an onion. The more layers you peel the more it stinks.
I guess for holly, it really is General Betrayus.
Who's Going to Get Fired Over Petraeus Investigation?
certainly not his highly qualified daughter Holly from her $250k a year position at CFPB which she was the most qualified applicant for.
So they have another hostage (besides his pension).
oh shit. that's his wife?
I'm sure there is a contract for embassy security services which is being reviewed right now.
oh shit. that's his wife?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!1!!!!! *inhales sharply* BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAAAAAA!!!!111!!!!!!!
I haven't laughed that hard in long time, thanks Nick.
Seriously. Having completely sold out for Obama when it counted, the press is now bound to justify what they did by continuing their support for him. The last thing they will be interested in doing is pursuing stories damaging to the guy they just sold their souls for.
"Whatever truth outs - and here's hoping that the press, relieved of its duty of protecting Obama in his bid for re-election ..."
Oh, yawn. Nick, are you auditioning for Fox News?

"Oh, yawn. Nick, are you auditioning for Fox News?"
How...........
cliche'd.
I'm told you write; the question is do you get paid for it.
I thought the story was that the FBI was investigating an e-mail breach not directly related to Petraeus, and turned up evidence of his affair late in the game, almost by accident. It would make sense that nobody was notified until the end that they were investigating him if they weren't actually investigating him until the end.
Seems like a few short years ago some one as high as a president could have an affair and no one would care.
If you're not from Canada (and specifically Ontario) you've probably never had the misfortune of reading Rosie DiManno. But her response to this question was that not only should no one be fired, but that Petraeus' resignation should have been refused. I wish she'd just stuck to writing about Mats Sundin for a couple more days.

"Who's Going to Get Fired Over Petraeus Investigation?"
We know there will be no Democrats that swing for this on, they already have the patsy. Petraeus will hang for "his" crimes and "theirs".
Sad but true we are cooked....
Why in the world is this not headline news? Eric Cantor bypassed National Security, during an election period, to not inform on a Republican national hero who was outed by a Republican ' whistle blower Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Washington', for a period of weeks? And this so called national hero failed to alert authorities, the President, and/or the committee for National Security he had possibly compromised his job until he was outed, but hey, the White House, the CIA AND President Obama are thought be the head of some massive cover-up? So now one can only wonder...did Cantor the pitt bull of the righteous inform Rove, the Koch brothers, (since they are his employers)? Did he notify Mitch McConnell, Romney or Boehner before election night? Was this arranged complicity at the risk of National Security to not shake up an election? It has since been established the national hero's gal pal is a bit of a whack job AND gave a speech which has turned up on UTube revealing secret bunkers for the CIA in Libya. How many have been put at risk by her indiscretion? How is it Eric Cantor is not being called up before the Home Land security and National Security Committee for sitting on valuable information concerning a preach in our security system? I agree there needs to be a timeline here. When people knew, and why they did not follow proper procedure until AFTER the election.
I'm shocked that the political appointee of the country's top politician might have considered political factors in his decision to leave politics.
I know that the big picture regarding this story is not why Petraeus cheated on his wife, but reading some of the cruel posts here and elsewhere I have to comment.
No outsider can truly know what goes on within a marriage, but Holly Petraeus is a brilliant woman in her own right who bore and raised his two children (probably mostly alone since he's a general, after all) and cared for him through his battle with cancer.
So of course she deserves to be betrayed by her ugly cuss of a husband of 37 years because she doesn't look as cute as the psycho who also betrayed her own husband and children.
Who wouldn't have gotten elected if there hadn't been a coverup?
I believe the whole affair is misdirection. Petraeus is really being fired for disagreeing with the President's order NOT to send any help to Benghazi during the attack. If I'm right, neither Petraeus nor Broadwell is going to be charged with anything -- because if either of them goes on trial, it'll all come out.
Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory. it's easier than admitting s41t happens, timing gets odd, and we are not omniscient or omnipotent. That requires some heavy thinking to accept, most are too lazy for the systematic thinking required for that and fall back to lazy heuristic thinking.
You should be fired for such a weak sauce article. Absent any real information people publish any tripe to get eyeballs. Unlike the court of law guilt and malfeasance is assumed in all cases escalated to the worst possible scenario. The government always had all the capability to do everything that needed to be done within the hour, and if they didn't it's because the President dictated everyone's actions.
How about we let Congress do it's job in terms of oversight and report on what the adults with access to information have to say. Or we can continue to contrive and report whatever dastardly scenario could have happened absent the balls and know how to do actual investigative reporting.
