Gay Marriage Recognition Legalized in Maryland, Maine

First time same-sex marriage approved through a public vote


Ballot Propositions to legalize state recognition of gay marriage appear very likely to pass in both Maine and Maryland, the first time such initiatives have passed.

According to CNN, Maine's Question 1 is passing 54 to 46 percent with 47 percent of the vote counted.

In Maryland, Question 6 is passing 52 to 48 percent with 86 percent of the vote passing.
